CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #7 (08/07/2010)

(Main event was a repeat.)

For a match where they literally stopped the second fall comeback, backed up a minute, and went thru the same spots (only with everyone on the same page), this was a pretty well received match. That wasn’t the only spot that went wrong. All the tecnicos had their off moments, but the crowd was way into the action and the feud. I don’t know if the apuesta match will be any good or not, but if Arena Coliseo Guadalajara got a crowd like they had for this match, I really want to see it.

The Mascara Magica fascination is totally a product of when I started watching. A couple years before or after, and he’s just another guy passing thru. It’s always like that, with the first you see of something, that’s what’s going to stick with you. It didn’t hurt that he seemed to be a central figure in all the cool storylines for a two year stretch, which seems kind of inconceivable now. Still would rather have him around than Toscano.

CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #5 (07/31/2010)

taped Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 07/06/2010 – well, kind of.

Los Angels

The crowd seemed a lot more full (definitely) and a lot louder (subjectively) for the main event than the opener, and I could not figure it out. Maximo and Garza are guys who are better if you don’t see them every week, but still. The way the main event, it seem to set up a rematch for the follow week either. It wasn’t until I was about to post it that I rechecked Fuego’s recap that I realized this was a combination of two tapings. Opener was 07/06, main event was actually the rematch from 07/13. (The 07/06 version of this match ended in a DQ, the recap of the 07/13 matches this finish exactly.) Not sure what that means for this upcoming week.

This was basically the Angels doing the same matches they do everywhere, and the main event guys doing the matches you’d expect. Yoshihashi seems lost at times, but not so bad to alone justify his (apparent) ban from DF. I do wonder if some of it is this Japaneses guy paying the price for the last Japanese guy not working so well, just like Taichi might have benefited from No Limit working out.

the horror!

Four episodes in, and I’ve already lost my enthusiasm for this show. To be fair, the luchadors did first.

In a world where five of the six CMLL weekly events shows airs somewhere, covering 61% of the matches, you’re going to get repeats, you’re going to get matches which just aren’t as good as other ones, and you’re going to get non essential stuff. Guadalajara seems to hit all three; the top guys tend to take it easy; even if they didn’t, there was a match featuring three of these same four guys on another channel at the same time, and it was much better.

If you’re going to air lucha libre from Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, make it be of Guadalajara. TVC Deportes does a good job with Puebla, pretty much always including the locals match because it’s what make Puebla different than Puebla. I understand why you have to air Mistico if you have a match with them, but the most interesting thing on this show was how Gallo worked with the CMLL guys (pretty good, they made him look like he was on their level), and maybe the second most interesting thing was the video of the tercera (Neutron! Palacio Negro!) airing behind the announcers during their standup. If the semimains are going to be CMLL midcarders who don’t make enough of a different to main event, you ought to be airing the undercard matches of guys who might not be as complete but are working a lot harder.

CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #3 (07/10/2010)

just getting moves for the wiki. Shocker does this one well.

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 06/22/2010

Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máximo vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano: if I ranked tecnicos in this match by how interesting they are when they mail matches in, it’d go Mascara first, Maximo second, Fantasma last. Maybe he’s been better on other shows, but it seems like a while since there’s been an interesting Fantasma match on shows I watch.

Shocker vs Héctor Garza: perfectly fine singles match in front of an audience who wanted to see it. Hector putting his foot on the ropes in a way where it can’t possibly help him is perfect Hector Garza

CMLL Guadalajara Teleforumla #1 (06/26/2010)

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 05/04/2010

I wanted to set an over/under for how many more episodes would air, but I kept wanting to take the under. If this is one episode and done, I would not be surprised. It’s more a reflection of Teleformula’s programming quality and consistency than the CMLL show, but the CMLL show was also produced as if it was a pilot episode to shop around to a few networks. Who knows if they actually taped more. (CMLL haven’t even mentioned the existence of this show yet.)

Super Porky & Asesino Negro

Gallo, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Exterminador, Malefico, Mr. Trueno: Even if we get nothing else, we got Palacio Negro being insane. I’d be surprised if they planned it this way, but this was actually a strong show as an introduction. This was a nice showcase for the local tecnicos they wanted to get over, and the main event was a storyline in progress (interest level in storyline may vary.)

Gallo really should be used as the local hero who stays here forever. He’d have a much more memorable/enjoyable career than he probably would in Mexico City.

La Máscara vs Averno: kinda worthless, probably still would be in if they aired the third floor. Exactly the match you’d expect these guys to have, but at a very basic/mailed in level.

Brazo de Plata, Máximo, Toscano vs Asesino Negro, Terrible, Texano: They tried!
