CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #15 (10/02/2010)

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 09/07/2010

Another Guadalajara show with matches that seem sub-Guerreros del Ring. No one’s stealing money, but these matches generally feel totally unnecessary. Opener was competent but not much more. Shocker was very energetic in his match (and then disappeared for a month, hmmm) but there’s nothing that hasn’t been done elsewhere, better and nothing going anywhere. The Invasors being involved should’ve made it different, but it felt the same. Blah.

This show was so boring, I couldn’t figure out a gif. And then I realized I had already deleted the video file. And then I just moved on, because that seemed OK.

Angels/Rush vs Azteca/Japan was really ordinary, and the main event was really not interesting comedy. It’s not that entertaining to see Maximo & Porky do the same bits every week, trust me on this. This is a show that I wouldn’t be watching if it didn’t come to my TV for free (and I wasn’t this strange.)

I'm going to miss this guy.

Pesta Negra/Super Porky match was exactly what you’d think it was.

Mistico vs Jushin Lyger was about what you’d expect, maybe even slightly better by the end if you’re not especially high on Mistico right now. I’m not sure I buy the idea that Mistico is only a great trios wrestler, because he was in some good singles matches (the one vs Black Warrior comes to mind) and it’s just more that he’s still doing either the same moves or even a stripped down version of the same matches. For all of CMLL’s idea of Mistico using New Moves! in 2009, his matches seem to be strictly headscissors, dive, rest, repeat. It seemed like there was more meat on the bone in the past.

DDT?

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 08/03/2010

Opener was really long and not really good. I would’ve thought they would’ve matched up Delta and Yoshihashi against the veterans, but they went the other route and it wasn’t much good. Just a lot of people looking at each out, a bit lost, while Valiente was the guy with the clue. If we were going to get a novato match, I’d rather have seen the locals. Main event was comedy dominated with the Mistico knockout bit not really fitting in. Crowd was really into it, even if I wasn’t.

Mascara Magica's big win (for a moment)

The first time some kids sit in front of a piano, they’d touch the different keys to what sound they’d make, to figure thing it out. Most kids, myself included, would hit as many keys as possible at once to see what terrible noise they could make. Whoever put this match together was hitting all the keys at once. The match was not ruined for it, but the song they wanted to play was overshadowed by the noise.

Every single usual dramatic bit was thrown in here, with the idea of creating suspense in a match that really didn’t have any. It seemed like they were actually doing a good job of that by having both tecnicos have to save the match against both rudos. The overturned finish ended up detracting from all of that; it became the tecnicos not only gifted a restart in a situation where it’s never done, but following up by cheating their way to a victory. I guess the idea was to play off the foul finishes from last week’s match – this time, the tecnicos would even the score – but the rudos really should’ve won a fall here by cheating if the tecnicos act were going to do the same.

The opener wasn’t really worth talking about.

Polvora's finish

taped Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 07/20/2010

This one didn’t do much for me, but it may just be me. The crowd has been in to the Exterminador/Mascara Magica vs Metal Blanco/Stuka feud (and there’s been a bigger crowd the last couple of weeks) and I still have hope for the apuesta match, but the lead up matches haven’t been that interesting to me. And the main event was the usual going thru the motions bit.
