CMLL En Busca de un Idolo (06/08/2012)

recap

this still looked cool

Diamante vs Euforia: an okay lightning, but nothing worth writing a lot about. Neither guy did a lot that stuck out. Diamante may want to reconsider his finish; it’s not that he’s killing other people when he lands it, it’s that he’s killing himself every time he misses. Credit for coming up with a new idea for the flip/knockdown bit.

Titan catches people with his back. Worked here.

Dragon Lee vs Titan: Starting the match by actually doing holds and counter holds for a few minutes was deeply amusing coming from these two, and the match really got food form there. These are two guys who common sense says require someone unlike each other to be a base for them, but actually worked off each other much better than expected. It wasn’t even as much neat moves as neat sequences of moves; this was all laid out and worked out very well, and executed just as well. This missed a little drama, but otherwise would’ve been fine as a final.

CMLL En Busca de un Idolo Week #5 (06/01/2012)

recap

nearly the end of Titan

Diamante vs Dragon Lee: Quick match, mostly because they didn’t bother with the two minutes of mat wrestling, just skipped ahead. A Dragon Lee showcase with Diamante getting in just enough moves to make it competitive, and the finish to set up the standings how they’d like down the road. This time, Dragon Lee looked fine (except for the one bad flip miss), but the crowd wasn’t into him at all. CMLL books Dragon Lee like he has the “It Factor”, but the crowd doesn’t always seem to see that It.

Titan vs Euforia: Felt like a little more than the big high spots before the screwjob finish. There were parts of this that were exciting, but these two could probably have a better full match if given the opportunity. This is an odd time to break out the towel thrown in as a match finish, but better here than something the crowd actually cares about! Someone might have worked out that this was the likely final by this point…

Euforia saves Dragon Lee’s life regularly

recap

Euforia, Titan, Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis, Diamante, Dragon Lee: as clear a case of laying out a match to spotlight certain people. Dragon Lee got in all his trademark spots and multiple dives. He didn’t do his spots particularly well, he looked exposed in mat wrestling part of the first fall, and a good portion of the crowd dislikes him. Meanwhile, poor Titan did no dives, got no pins, and was equally dumped out of the ring after the match. At least they have a direction? (though, looking back, Ultimo Guerrero may not have been in on the direction early.)
