52MX: The trios title match.

LATV: a rerun!

CMLL-Main/Gala: Galavision’s online schedule says the show is airing at 11pm ET on Saturday. All other TV listings say the show isn’t on. My onscreen listings say it’s not on. As best I can figure, it’s on. The listings on my TiVo have San Luis/Atlas at 9:30 ET; it’s actually a 8 ET game, which means this show airs sometime after soccer.

Guessing the tournament ends up on this show, but there’s no telling.

FOX: That would leave the Tuareg vs Lee/Cometa/Azteca + Misterioso/Okumura/Vangelis vs Fuego/Sagrado/Sangre

AAA: Not sure. It would make most sense to air two more matches from Zumpango on the main show, and random reruns on the regional show. No telling if they’ll actually do that.

C3: TRT vs Atlantida.

Mega6: Blanca/Apache build up. Love Buffet vs Guerreros/Volador

Puebla: TRT vs Mascara/Mascara/Rush, plus Virus/Loco/Centella and Dalis/Blanca.

Perros: week 3 of Arena Aficion? Feed’s been off, no idea what aired.

ACM: TV magicians?

IWRG: the two title matches from Sunday?

recap

Blue Panther, wrestler/timekeeper

Blue Panther vs Negro Casas in a lightning match: Not a straight brawl, because they went hold for hold (not that any of the holds seemed to have any long term affect on each guy), which gave this a more complete feel than some of the previous encounter. This was really meant as nothing more than a tease to the hair match which may or may not be happening, but it felt better than some of the build up matches so far. It’s actually really great Signo and Cometa went to that draw, because this would’ve been annoying as the first even time limit draw.

oops

Estrellita, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, La Comandante, Zeuxis: This was better than the lighting match. Most of that was the other four luchadors working well and Estrellita being kept to a minimum. It doesn’t give me any more confidence in any Amapola/Estrellita singles match, but at least the made the trios work.

Guerrero Maya

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Mephisto, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero: Again, a strong build to a match they may or not be actually be doing. They are doing the singles match, but maybe not much more than that. They seemed a bit unprepared they had the extra time – they just shows a longer mic bit than usual, more replays and the Bobby Bonales video package. Nothing they wouldn’t have cut out normally.

Loco Max vs Virus, AAA in Naucalpan

CMLL (MON) 02/20/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Akron & Siki Ozama Jr. b Black Tiger & Silver
Rudos take 2/3.
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong, Lady Apache b Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
Tecnicas take 2/3, focusing on Dalis vs Blanca.
3) Centella de Oro, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Euforia, Loco Max, Virus
Virus submitted Centalla de Oro in the first, then had Pegasso beat in the second and was going after Centella in the second when Loco ran in and fouled Centella for the DQ. Loco and Virus started out right fighting in the third. Tecnicos took advantage for the win. Euforia and Virus left Loco laying, and the crowd was behind the Puebla rudo.
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Pólvora b Ángel de Oro, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.
Rudos take 1/3.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger b La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Rush
Rudos take 1/3, Terrible sneaking in a foul on Rush for the win.

The big story for tonight are the AAA TV tapings at Arena Naucalpan. The first two Rey del Reyes semifinals will take place, including the first matches for el Consejo members Toscano & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. M2K Jr. had previously appeared as an IWRG representative on shows, while Toscano actually appeared in AAA a dark match 17 years ago when they were taping in Arena Coliseo Monterrey (long before Toscano made it to CMLL.) It’s probably one Consejo member will make it to the final, with the others kept out for a tag match against Dr. Wagner at the show. Toscano seems the more likely winner, because Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. has to deal with Perro Aguayo Jr., Cibernetico and a mystery person.

AAA hasn’t thrown out hints about who the mystery man will be. Plenty of other people have. I believe I’ve been told eight different people who will be the mystery man, which is going to make for an awfully crowded match. It’s a situation where everyone you can think of has been suggested, and then maybe a couple people you wouldn’t think of being back here thrown in as well. AAA wants a decent->big name, but sometimes they think they have those names and end up with Alan Stone.

In other matches, Cuervo & Ozz will defend (and likely keep) the AJPW tag team titles vs Chessman & Ultimo Gladiador, and the Oficials will law the law down versus Fenix, Gran Apache and Daga in what should be the best match of the night.

Albert mentioned the comments but I haven’t remembered to put it up here – Sobre el Ring mentioned Charly Manson has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after his fight with two police officers last year.

Shocker is on the poster for the 03/06 Arena Queretaro show. I’d guess he makes his return at Dos Leyendas.

Black Terry Jr. posted video of Black Terry, Negro Navarro, and Scorpio Jr. vs Solar, Hijo de Solar, and Skayde: fall 1, fall 2, fall 3.

Rob has highlights of Rey de Aires 2011.

Main event is a rematch. This is the second of Cacao’s two appearances.

top six stories of the last two weeks

  1. Blue Panther vs Negro Casas agreed to a hair match for Dos Leyendas on 03/02.
  2. AAA’s latest TV taping set up a Wagner (and partners?) vs El Consejo match for Rey del Reyes. That joins the annual Rey del Ring tournament final as the only matches officially set for the show on March 18th. There are clear directions for other matches, and maybe those will be set at tonight’s taping.
  3. Atlantis & Mr. Niebla advanced to the semifinal of the national incredible pairs. The tournament final will take place at Dos Leyendas. Marco Corleone & Ultimo Guerrero are the favorite to win their half of the bracket this Friday.
  4. On the first X-Project shows, a seven hour marathon, all three Parkas beat the ex-ECW team of Super Crazy, Tommy Dreamer and Raven, and Daga defeated Super Crazy and Joe Lider for the X-LAW Junior Heavyweight championship. The afternoon show did not draw especially well, but the evening show seemed close to a sell out. No next show was announced.
  5. IWL & DTU first co-promoted show “Versus” featured a DTU team beating AAA and IWL teams in the main event. The show seemed to draw well for the size of the building they were in. A follow up show was announced for 03/10.
  6. CMLL made the long anticipated gimmick change for Metro. His new name was not anticipated: Diamante Azul, with something very close to a Blue Demon mask with a diamond pasted on.
  • Many titles changed hands: Negro Casas beat Sombra for the NWA Welterweight title, Volador beat Sombra for the NWA Middleweight Title, Hector Garza won the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship from X-Fly in Perros del Mal, and Marco Corleone, Maximo and Rush won the CMLL Trios Championship from Hijos del Averno. The last two might mean more than just usual belt shuffling; Garza’s title might end up being the main title for Perros del Mal (assuming they run enough shows for that to matter) and the title win for Bufete del Amor is part of their quick rise a group.
  • Lucha news show Tercera Caida was mysterious pre-empted this week.
  • Lots of rumors about people jumping from promotion A to promotion B (or B to A). No one’s jumped yet.
  • Prince Devitt & Ayumi were officially announced as coming in March, and given heavy promotion on the CMLL shows.
  • Lucha Libre USA will be touring California in March.
  • Casandro says he’s retiring “for a while”
  • CMLL and PRI ran a famine benefit show.
  • No title changes in IWRG, with Eterno & Carta Brava keeping their titles.

recap

Máximo, Titán, Triton vs Felino, Pólvora, Shigeo Okumura: Máximo and the T&T duo didn’t do much together, but the rudo team not mesh much either. This was all okay with some Triton iffyness (like the finish), but very standard stuff. If Okumura was actually in the spot Triton landed, that would’ve been a humongous moonsault.

Ephesto outsmarts Sombra (sort of)

La Máscara, La Sombra, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto: Definitely not the blow out match you might be hoping with these names, more of the usual stuff. Everyone does what they do well (when they’re not distracted by the celebrities), but this was definitely just an ordinary match. Valiente looked more confident than he has since the moonsault botch.
