CMLL Guadalajara on Teleformula #29 (01/09/2011)

dive to nowhere

recap: here

file: http://av2.radioformula.com.mx/vidMUL/luchamania/110109_luchamania1_v.wmv

taped in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, 10/19/2010 for the first match, 10/12/2010

Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro vs Exterminador & Malefico – an up and down match for the kids, leaning towards down. Very inconsistent on their spots. The veterans made sure it didn’t break down, but this was not good.

Máximo, Rush, Toscano vs Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Mephisto – I have no recollection of this match. It was a Maximo match, it was a match where Toscano decided to pass on doing a dive, it was a match where Rush actually got pinned which seems incredibly rare.

One more reminder: I’ll be Unregular Radio’s Riley Matthews show this Friday at 8pm EST, talking AAA and the Royal Rumble. You can catch the show thru the website, plus send in questions for me to answer thru the instant feedback link. The best question gets a lucha mask!

IWRG (THU) 01/27/2011 Arena Naucalpan [Fuego en el Ring, Estrellas del Ring]
1) Epidemia b Centurión
2) Dinamic Black & Hijo del Pantera b Carta Brava Jr. & Imposible
3) Alan Extreme, Chico Che, Saruman b Maldito Jr., Masada, Samot
Alan Extreme’s first match on the tecnico side after Maldito & Samot turned on him last week. Straight fall win for the tecnicos, rudos DQed for excessive violence on Alan in the first fall, he submitted Masada in the second fall
4) Avisman, Destroyer, El Hijo del Diablo b el Ángel, Tony Rivera, Trauma I
new masked Destoryer (and masked valet Sherry) were introduced as new Gringos VIP members. The other two had the trios belts. (Gringo Loco was said to be ‘not in Naucalpan’ on the broadcast last night’; seems he’s gone.) The new lineup won in their debut.
5) Electroshock, Multifacético, Pantera DQ Bestia 666, Pirata Morgan, Último Gladiador
Pimpi was originally listed in this match, but ended in Toluca instead. Electro took the spot and was about to win the match for his team when X-Fly and Damian rushed into attack him for the DQ.

Black Terry Jr. was over in Toluca so no video of this show from him, though I think this still is the TVC Deportes taping.

Today’s Arena Mexico show features the first match up of Mephisto and Hijo del Fantasma since Mephisto knocked him out with a brass knuckles punch two weeks ago. Rush and Texano may continue feuding in the semimain/ Sangre Azteca will again not get along with his teammates and lose in the fourth match.

Terrible says he and Texano haven’t defended their Occidente tag team belts because there’s no one their size in Guadalajara, just “smurfs” who aren’t on their level. Also, Terrible thinks Volador joined Hijo del Averno. He may have, and they just never got around to telling us.

LA Park, who was all over the promotional pictures and video of Lucha Libre USA Season 1 but never did appear (AAA conflict?), will appear for the group on their next group of shows: 02/19 Albuquerque (taping) and 02/20 West Valley, Utah (spot show.) You can buy tickets for that event here, prices are $15, $25 and $50 (plus a bunch of fees.)

LuchaWorld Monthly has a recap of 2010 and fantastic predictions for 2011. This week’s Slammin’ Stan is up too.

Black Terry Jr.

AAA TV (THU) 01/27/2011 Gimnasio Agustin Milian [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), Lucha Libre AAA]
1) Sugi b Ronin
unannounced dark match; not expected to air
2) Atomic Boy, Fenix, Gato Eveready b Dark Dragon, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana
Dark Dragon and Fenix were debuting here. There’s a lot of people who’ve used the name Fenix, and this is probably not any of them.
3) Billy Boy, Sexy Star, Yuriko b Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Pimpinela Escarlata
Hijo del Tirantes helped the rudos with a fast count. Billy feuded with Gran Apache, and Tirantes got involved there as well.

In between the third and fourth match, La Sociedad came to the ring. Zorro revealed new visions of the future: a tyrant would fall, and we’d see the return of the iron mask Charly imprisoned him in. Konnan was concerned he was the tyrant, but Zorro said he did not know the identity, only that it would happen. Konnan threatened Dr. Wagner for his statements at Guerra de Titanes.

4) Chris Stone & Súper Fly DQ Aerostar & Octagón
Super Fly now has a red headband, like Octagon. Rudos mocked the tecnicos, tecnicos rallied, and the rest of the Milicia ran in for the DQ. They took Octagon’s mask again.
5) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Amadeus, Charly Manson, Escoria
Murder Clown flying elbow drop on Amadeus for the win. Zorro came out after the match and argued with Charly about the whole iron mask thing.
6) Chessman & Zorro b Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Mesías
Rudos got a lot of help from Konnan. A Zorro superkick to Mesias won. Charly, wearing the Bizarro mask, ran out and attacked La Sociedad after the match, then hung out with the tecnicos.

2011 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#975 – one taping!)
Mexico: 02/06
US: 02/19

Sugi and Ronin are the mystery men for the 02/04 card. Dark Dragon and Fenix are likely DTU luchadors with new looks and names; maybe this week’s DTU show will give us some clues.

LA Park was supposed to get a title shot off beating Mesias at Guerra de Titanes, but we still haven’t seen him and this show sure seems to point to Zorro vs Charly Manson. Still time to go.

taped in Arena Mexico, 01/02/2011

Caution: Palacio Negro at work

Leono, Molotov, Starman vs Dr. X, Durango Kid, Nitro: A match! A Tuareg mask feud that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I hope Dr. X didn’t talk his way out of a mask feud, that’d be sort of sad. Also, I think the point of going only two falls is so there’s more time for the rest of the show, but it doesn’t actually work if these matches still go the same 13 minutes.

Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush vs Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Sagrado [MEX TRIOS, #1, final]: Fantastic! My new theory is CMLL has those in rookie vs rookie matches (this one, the similar AC Tag final) do a few practice runs before hand, because it’s too much to ask them to risk them putting it all together in one try. These do feel a little rehearsed, but everyone has an idea of where they’re supposed to be going. Stuka & Metro are veteran enough to let them to work it out in the ring, and it actually works out worse.

The Rush/Sagrado stuff at the end was great and it’s disappointing we didn’t at least get a lightning match out of it.

recap: here

file: http://www.multiupload.com/U7X2DUYEJY – Teleformula never put this up, so this is the TV version. You didn’t miss much. Both are pretty eh typical GDL matches, there’s better stuff for everyone elsewhere. The Mistico/Mephisto three week program starts with Mistico cleanly beating Mephisto in the center of the ring, fine planning going on.

Mr. Trueno keeps his belt, Pegasso, Perros/Oficials, Santo

I’ll be Unregular Radio’s Riley Matthews show this Friday at 8pm EST, talking AAA and the Royal Rumble. You can catch the show thru the website, plus send in questions for me to answer, and then listen to me repeatedly stammer thru answers. It should be a fun time!

CMLL (TUE) 01/25/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Nube Roja b In Memoriam
2) Astro Boy & Magnum b Ángel del Mal & Semental
3) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Silueta b La Seductora, Princesa Sujei, Zeuxis
4) Mr. Trueno b Puma King [OCCIDENTE MIDDLE]
title retained! Trueno even pinned Puma with a casita. Puma demanded a rematch for next week, Trueno declined.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máximo b Terrible, Texano, Volador Jr.
Maximo KOed Texano with a kiss for the win.

Boxer Saul Canelo Alvarez was in the crowd. The boxing card here on Saturday is being run by “Canelo Promotions”, so he’s surely got some tie in.

Mr. Trueno credits Satanico’s rudo teachings for the win (though he insists he did it cleanly) and notes that Puma shouldn’t get any more shots since he’s Mr. Trueno has now beat him three straight weeks.

Pegasso has been found! CMLL.com reports he underwent surgery Wednesday night on his right knee. He originally suffered his knee injury on October 29th, rested it a month, and immediately hurt it again in his first week back (11/29 Arena Puebla) on a dive. They’ve been getting medical opinions since. (This doesn’t begin to explain why he was on all those lineups – maybe they were hoping more rest would be enough.) Pegasso is expected back in around 20 days, which means this a relatively mild rehab for something that’s taken him out of action for so long.

Talking to Mi Lucha Libre, the Perros del Mal point out that if they can end the undefeated the streak of the Psycho Circus, they stand a pretty good shot against the Oficials (who clearly didn’t not beat the Clowns.) That actually makes a lot of sense.

El Hijo del Santo was no less than 10 minutes from my house, and I didn’t know about the show. Of course, it was directly against the Bears game and I probably wouldn’t have gone. Also around here, GALLI is running a title tournament on 02/12, and I vow to make a lucha show for the first time in months (unless I have to go to a birthday party, and it looks like I might, uh oh.)

Lineup

CMLL (MON) 01/31/2011 Arena Puebla

4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máximo vs Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr.
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero vs Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila, Psicosis

Metatron’s around a lot this week. Think they’re doing a UG/Psicosis feud here, and next week is probably the fan appreciation show.

Metal & Palacio have been shuffled back into the GDL mix, but they’re treated as bigger stars than they were before – they’re not just facing the locals.
