08/16-17 Lucha TImes

chart

–everywhere–

CAN52: Tuareg vs Fabian/Metalik/Tony + pseudo-Guerreros vs pseudo-High Society

FSE: minis trios to build to this weekend’s big match, plus young flyers vs Perros

–US–

AAA-US: AAA Heavyweight rumble, AAA minis tournament kicks off

–Mexico–

CMLL: Wagner/Niebla for Wagner’s big gold belt. Guerreros vs Perros/V5 in revenge after Heavy Metal’s punking last week.

AAA: TV Guide lists this as two hours. Gala doesn’t have listings up on their site. The Monterrey/Billy Boy opener is surely cut, and perhaps something else. Alas de Oro has to make, Mini Kenzo has to make it, and everything else is everything else.

CTres: even more Mictlan/Dragon Rojo fun.

AAA #845 (08/09)

aired 08/09, taped 07/13

Kenzo Suzuki for wrestler of the year! I was so happy for him during the Air Force beatdown, because instead of being the goon, he was the guy in charge of the goons for once. It was a nice promotion, until Konnan had to come out and talk.

I totally can’t complain about any show that gives me no hardcore tag team match.

At this point, the Apaches are rudos, the Morenos are tecnicos, and everything is very confusing.

The big angles was pretty fun, until you realized they tricked us all and didn’t advanced the Air Force angle at all. Super Fly is still brooding and indecisive.

The tecnicos fight and cost each other the main event multiple times, and still end up with the win? But then Mesias got to murder Vampiro, so I think he’s okay with it.

08/13: Panther/V5, Juvi out of AAA

(Reforma via Jazzo) CMLL thought about it, and decided Blue Panther vs Villano V will remain a mano y mano mask match. They seem pretty sure of it, but of course we’ve got two press conferences between now and then (tomorrow for the August 29th show, sometime after August 29th to announce the anniversary show) for Atlantis and Ultimo Guerrero to intrude and demand yet again.

Odd how CMLL runs it’s big angles at press conferences instead of their own shows, isn’t it?

AAA posted a note last night announcing Juvi’s departure, and wishing him will in his future endeavors. Total WWE speak. Unsurprisingly, they haven’t gotten around to removing his bio. Juvi’s departure got a tiny article in Ovaciones, which is actually pretty good considering the many pages dedicated to the Women’s 10M Synchronized Diving bronze medalists. Juvi’s apparently having a press conference about this today.

CMLL posted a news bite about Princesa Sujei wanting a shot at Marcela’s national women’s title based on a Tuesday match, but hasn’t posted results from that show yet.

FMLL (FRI) 08/08 Pico Rivera Sports Arena, Los Angeles [el maldito enmascarado @ el Martinete]
1) Chiva USA, Rosa Salvaje, Super Chavo b Alas de Oro, Juventud Azteca, Poder Infernal
2) Bionico, Gallinero I, Gallinero II b Acero Dorado, Meteorik, Yelka
3) Jaguar de Oro b Profeta Jr. [mask]
4) Piloto Suicida (California) b Shamu Jr. [FILL HEAVY]
5) Hijo del Cien Caras & Villano III b Huracan Ramirez Jr. & Rayo de Jalisco Jr.
6) El Hijo Del Santo & LA Park b Blue Demon Jr. & Rey Misterio Sr.

No Porky.

I had no idea IWRG’s offical site got overhauled. It looks so much better. The people behind the Gladiator are obviously running it (which explains why they’re also doing live pbp from there), but it’s functional which puts it well ahead the last version.

The Examiners examines Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero‘s Gladiator drinks. Sounds like a strong review for Mistico, and more mixed for UG. I like the idea for a lighter drink featuring Dark Angel.

Imparcial interviews referee El Checo, who talks about his short career as a wrestler (yet another Relamapgo Negro until a knee injury two years ago) and his aspirations of making it to Arena Mexico.

This story about a combo metal band/luchador troop sounds a bit sensationalized, if not fictionalized at parts.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Jerry Estrada’s worthlessness in a hair match vs Satanico from ’90.

Silver King wants to take La Parka Jr. to Tokyo for a tag team tournament in October. Silver King also seems slightly obsessed with the titles he’s won, at least compared to everyone else in Mexico.

Wagnermania posted video of A Ras de Lona’s news stories (highlight is Felino being freaked out by a dog), stellar moments, and highlights from Sunday 08/03, Tuesday 08/05, Friday 08/08 Sadly, it looks like they’ve dropped showing the openers and don’t even show the segunda from Friday. The people marking out for the trios title change are pretty entertaining.

The first clip has an interview with Perro and spotlights his injury as when he took a bump over the ropes to the floor. It’s not a simple bit, but it is pretty routine and not like some sort of bad collision. The bicep just gave out on him.

CMLL FSE #103 (08/03)

taped 07/20, aired 08/03

This works better when I post it. Minis match was better the week prior, I thought, and this was an odd way to build Bam Bam. Main event was about the usual.

I’m still devastatinged about my DVR screwing up the title match. Not only did it look fun in the previews (I was happy everyone seemed to be living thru the dives that week, and then I saw the last one), but it had a tandem Alex Koslov & Grey Shadow promo that was so magnificent they must always do their promos together. Truly a dynamic duo. FSE MUST replay this.

08/10 Coliseo Results

CMLL (SUN) 08/10 Arena Coliseo
1) Apocalipsis & Ramstein b Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II
2) Amapola, La Nazi, Medussa b Lady Apache, Luna Mágica, Marcela
3) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior b Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito
4) La Máscara, Sagrado, Valiente b Ephesto, Mephisto, Texano
5) Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Rey Bucanero DQ Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Shocker

Main event finish was Lizmark fouling Dos. Damian made hair match challenges after beating Bam Bam, but so did Amapola so it’s still a little surprise the match happened. (FWIW, Lady Apache would prefer to get a title shot, and that’s surely going to happen sometime real soon.)

I did an update on Monday, but I don’t see it now and don’t know what happened to it. That sucks.

2008 AAA TV Taping
Projected Air Date (#851)
Mexico: 08/31
US: 09/20

If Super Fly turns in the main event, I will give it a million billion stars. This has to the culmination of the Super Fly/Legion stuff. AAA’s running the same exact match on the Friday taping, except Super Fly replaced Gronda. I guess that’s a totally different match, then.

If you’re like mean, you presume Aerostar teaming with Alan and Elegido here means he’s the mystery man teaming with those two guys on Friday. AAA’s site says no, it’s Silver King. However, they also add Mesias to the rudo side for the odd 4 on 3, so maybe Aero will get added before they’re thru. Anyway, that would seem to indicate Silver King should be hanging around for this show as well, but he’s not listed.

I think this match is a continuation of the Elegido/Pirata feud and not a sign they’ve forgotten the new member already, but I can never feel totally confident about that.

There’s lots of repetition with small variations between Friday and Sunday. The fourth match is the best example; 3 same guys, and we get to find out if Chessman or Crazy Boy is the better wrestler. (I think I know the answer!) Odd not to see Chessman somewhere on this card as well. Maybe he and Silver King have some big plans to watch the Olympics instead.

Hey, look, they found another way to do Morenos vs Apache without getting around to any title match. Billy’s still stuck in the pseudo-opener.

With that second round match set, that leaves Atomic Boy & Mini Abismo Negro left, presumably for the 08/31 Monterrey show.
