AAA #840 (07/05)

taped 06/01, aired 07/05

I don’t know that I’d want to be Cibernetico’s friend. Chessman, on a bad knee, dove thru a flaming table to help him beat Mesias at Rey de Reyes, and Cibernetico couldn’t be bothered to even stand in Chessman’s corner here. That doesn’t seem right at all.

Interesting to see Jack and Teddy beat the tag champs, and nothing’s been done to follow upon it. Is that saying the Hart Foundation is too big for the titles, or that they just don’t have an acceptable finish to a title match?

Gran Apache vs Billy Boy is still good. It’s remarkable how much Mari Apache has changed in the last nine months, from someone who appeared disinterested in being in the ring to someone who absolutely wants to kill her sister.

Verano de Escandalo has to be in at this same building, Poliforum Zamna, right? I can’t think of where else they run in this city (not that I know much.)

CMLL FSE #98 (06/29)

taped 06/15 in Arena Mexico. The delay went down to one week on the previous show, in case I’ve confused anyone.

When it became obvious they were planning on airing a normal trios match and the tournament, it was pretty clear an already short tournament was going to be shredded in editing. That I could fit all seven matches in one clip probably says everything. The first round losers (mostly the novato stable teams, and one that should be demoted at least that far) really didn’t get to show much. The other four teams got to show a little, and the block final seemed to be pretty over with the crowd.

I’ve seen the YouTube clips and know he can actually hit these moves at times, but in terms of people being brought in from GDL, Metalik is coming off as a more spectacular Oro II. More spectacular in suicide attempts, mostly.

I so want to see Ohara vs Goku. Wait, have we seen them in the same place at the same time? HMMM. Then again, it’s sure not like Ohara to wear a mask…

Caifan wasn’t bad, but didn’t make a huge impression here. Axel is a far more interesting story than wrestler.

At this point in time, five days before the cage match, they sure weren’t even teasing a Negro rudo turn yet – they were more teasing a Damian/Negro battle, actually.

CMLL FSE #95 (06/07)

taped 05/25, aired in the US on 06/07

This is where FSE skipped 3 episodes. I’ll just pretend there was an episode they said hi to me in here. Yea…

Anyway, both the opener and the main event were fun. They’re not all they could be, but they’re more than they usually are in on this show. It’s funny that the one time Metalik doesn’t actually almost kill himself in a match is the time I make a joke about it anyway. Sangre Azteca’s finisher is one of my favorite things in all of wrestling.

Main was fun in the 1+1+9 format. Alex keeps coming close to winning titles – maybe he’d go all the way if he knew all the rules. I didn’t plan it out this way, but it works out nice that you can compare/contrast this with the TNA match tonight.

CMLL FSE #92 (06/01)

taped 05/04, aired in the US on 06/01

I watched this something like two weeks ago, and I’m still thrilled with my sleuthing work on Bronco’s place of origin. Even if I’m probably completely wrong.

Main event was the usual crew, but better than normal for whatever reason. It’s amusing that Alex and Rey are in here, and are main eventing the next FS show that airs in the US (which was taped just three weeks later), and there’s nothing in the two matches to connect the two. These things just happen.
