CMLL FSE #105 (08/10)

taped 08/03, aired in the US on 08/10. There’s a skip in the numbers, but not that, because I’m still missing the minis title match show.

This was your typical two random trios matches episode of an MVS show. Opener was marginally better because Felino and Virus took it to the mat for a bit and you don’t get that from everyone.

It occurs to me now, based on this Sunday’s excitement, that the Volador/Warrior feud’s built here has been dropped already. I’d much rather have the trios feud; watching those Ras de Lona clips lately have made me long for Sombra to be on this show a bit more often. That reminds me, Purpura seems to have been trying a few different things here. Not for the finish, of course.

CMLL FSE #103 (08/03)

taped 07/20, aired 08/03

This works better when I post it. Minis match was better the week prior, I thought, and this was an odd way to build Bam Bam. Main event was about the usual.

I’m still devastatinged about my DVR screwing up the title match. Not only did it look fun in the previews (I was happy everyone seemed to be living thru the dives that week, and then I saw the last one), but it had a tandem Alex Koslov & Grey Shadow promo that was so magnificent they must always do their promos together. Truly a dynamic duo. FSE MUST replay this.

CMLL FSE #102 (07/27)

taped 07/13, aired 07/27

The tope seems like the simplest dive, so it’s kinda amazing how many go wrong. Anything you’re rushing thru the ropes, you’re taking a big risk. There have been worse looking impacts than Mini Halloween’s here, but he looked as out of it as any. Match was usually tons of fun from minis otherwise.

When Wagner/Perro did finally hook up, they treated it as big, but I thought they would’ve centered the whole show around it when them (at that time) scheduled to face off in a singles match the following Friday.

Don’t think I haven’t noticed all the bumper Outside The Ring bits are gone. I’m so happy CMLL is running Ras de Lona on CAN52, since all of those features are surely turning up there instead. If only I can get an occasional skit…

CMLL FSE #101 (07/20)

taped 07/03, aired 07/20

As opposed to the last three weeks, this was just A Show. Stuka/Vangelis’ fight sure seemed like a set up for a feud, but they haven’t met since. It seems like a pretty likely feud, because Vangelis is here to get a payoff for losing his hair (I figure) and Stuka is about the right spot for it. Maybe later.

Black Warrior still doesn’t like Grey Shadow. And, conversely to the main event, it didn’t look like there was supposed to be an angle between him and Sombra, just your weekly captains feud.

So who’s move is Hijo del Faraon borrowing here? (See opening of video.) It was different enough I can’t spend a paragraph mocking him/CMLL for introducing Yet Another High Flyer Who Works Exactly The Same As Twenty Other Guys. Hopefully that sentence was enough!

BTW, I’ve been all caught up since Wednesday and completely unable to enjoy it. And I’m sure to fall back behind this week…

CMLL FSE #100 (07/13)

taped 06/29, aired 07/13 – yay, 100

The AC Tag Title match was pretty good. It wasn’t MOTYC, but for where these guys are in their careers, they ought to be pretty happy with it. It did fall apart at the end of the third fall with Flash’s injury (that dive sequence didn’t look right, and the announcers brushing over the non-elimination when that was a plot point in the fall before stuck out), but they did a lot better with the time given than a lot of other CMLL showcase matches.

CMLL FSE #99 (07/06)

taped 06/22, aired 07/06

Again, not a lot of the tournament aired (though seemingly more than last week – I had to split it into a couple files) but there was some good spots in what did show up and the crowd was into it. Hopefully the title match is fun. Or was fun. I don’t know what tense to use.

Learning how to protect yourself on a dive gone well is something you don’t want to learn but it sure seems handy to know.
