Day: October 9, 2013
top six stories of the last two weeks
- Rush & La Mascara defeated La Sombra & Atlantis in the final of a 16 team tag team tournament, where the winners will eventually get a shot against Tama Tonga & Rey Bucanero for the CMLL Tag Team Titles. It was a rare tecnico versus tecnico match, though the Rush side was booed as always.
- AAA announced the Heroes Inmortales, which has a mega title match, a tag team title match, a tournament, and nothing interesting. The TV lead up has been focused on Texano Jr. versus Psycho Clown (who will be in his first ever AAA singles match) and la Secta versus Perros del Mal and Cibernetico (which isn’t directly built up by anything on the show.) AAA appears to passing on doing anything major for this show, killing time until either the end of year show and/or their start in the US.
- Rey Escorpion and Super Porky have feuded for the last few weeks leading to a hair match on 10/18, the same day as Heroes Inmortales and the WWE show in Mexico City. The build up trios match this past week was surprisingly great (due to Porky being super aggressive and Rey Escorpion probably being the best luchador in Mexico this year). The hair match itself will have special “Super Libre Plus” rules, where just about anything goes.
- Cibernetico, Texano Jr., La Parka, Fenix, Drago, Pimpinela, and Psycho Circus were all robbed on the way to a show in Ciudad Juarez. The van they were riding in was pulled over, they were asked (with guns) to leave the van, and the criminals took off with all the possessions in the van. The van was found later, with a lot of the luchador’s items gone.
- Dr. Wagner claimed AAA was trying to steal his name in the US by filing for a trademark. AAA counted by saying Wagner had asked them to protect the name since they were already taking care of their own names in the US, then Wagner changed his mind but would not respond to them. AAA claims the name has not been fully put thru the trademark process and they’d gladly hand over what they have so far if Wagner paid AAA’s fees. Wagner has not responded.
- Dr. Wagner then was attacked by a person with a knife, and one his wrists was cut in the fight. Wagner has said nothing about the incident besides posting photos of the wound being stitched up, but Hijo del Santo took the opportunity to imply AAA was getting revenge for Wagner speaking up about his trademark. AAA has rolled their eyes about this.
- Dos Caras Senior announced he was starting on a retirement tour and would be retiring by early 2014. Dos Caras Sr. has generally been inactive outside of occasional legends shows, but this would the formal end to his career.
- There were/are plenty of rumors about Volador leaving CMLL for other places. So far, the only place Volador appeared to go was the face paint store.
- Negro Casas & Rush continue to feud on and off. There’s no announced date for their previously ‘signed’ hair match and it doesn’t appear to be on the immediate horizon.
- DTU, perhaps helped by their new TV deal, has announced their busiest ever month in October with about a dozen shows.
- Casandro, Mascara Dorada, Sangre Azteca and Dragon Rojo are headed to France for a show.
- Dragon Celestial unmasked Ciclon Black as part of the continuing Gym Tony Rivera vs Gym FILL feud in IWRG. Rivera’s Guerrero Mixtico also lost his hair.
- people who kept titles: Estrellita, Los Traumas, Virus, Mephisto
- Canek got a dumb title belt.
Escorpion vs Porky in Super Libre+, La Mascara & Rush win tag team tournament

1) Akuma & Herodes Jr. b Bengala & Oro Jr.
Bengala replaced Camaleon.
2) Bam Bam & Último Dragoncito b Mercurio & Pequeño Warrior
No Shockercito or Olimpico. Possible one missed the show and they couldn’t find a replacement.
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Rey Cometa DQ Namajague, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
Tecnicos appear to take 1/3. Namajague fouled Rey Cometa.
4) Boby Zavala b Hijo del Fantasma [lightning]
Zavala stole Fantasma’s mask and beat them.
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Thunder b Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.
Ultimo Guerrero replaced Negro Casas. Rudos took 1/3, Niebla beating Mistico and Volador defeated Blue Panther.
6) La Máscara & Rush b Atlantis & La Sombra [CMLL TAG, #1 Contenders, final]
Mascara & Rush took 1/3, the last apparently clean with the Rush Driver on Sombra and the campana on Atlantis, to win. No date was given for the tag title match versus Tonga and Bucanero.
Not many details about the main event, but it looks good. I feel like three might be setting something up, but there’s no lineup yet.
CMLL (TUE) 10/08/2013 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [@acogdl, Informador (4)]
1) Guerrero Negro Jr. & Súper Comando b Black Metal & Leo
Rudos took 1/3.
2) Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel b Gallo, Magnus, Starman
Rudoso took 1/3, Nosferatu beat Gallo.
3) Felino, Puma, Tiger b Fuego, Sagrado, Tritón
Rudos took 2/3 to win.
4) Marco Corleone b Terrible
Marco took 2/3 for the win.
5) Averno, Mephisto, Rey Escorpión b Máscara Dorada, Super Porky, Titán
Brazo de Plata replaced Shocker, which the promotion announce a day before hand. Rudos took 1/3, and only were DQed for excessive Escorpion violence on Porky in the second. Averno beat Titan for the win.
CMLL had a contract signing for Rey Escorpion and Brazo de Plata. They’ll meet on October 18 in a hair versus hair match, as set up the last few weeks. Per Porky’s request from last Friday, this match will have special rules: “Super Libre Plus”. Punches and choking are specifically listed as being legal, and it generally seems like most everything you’d expect to be legal in a normal Super Libre match to be legal. CMLL’s killed the idea of “super libre” meaning anything in recent matches, so it was a good idea to come up with something additional to make it clear this is going to be different. It’ll definitely been different judging from Friday’s match.
No other matches were announced for the 10/18 show. They’re likely to do a title match as the semifinal, but they have a few different ones in play. Dallys versus Marcela is likely as a lightning match. Not sure how Titan gets involved in that one.
AAA reveals there was a tournament to determine the participants in a four way tag team title match at Heroes Inmortales. I guess I can’t call it a secret tournament any more.
ChilangaMask has added Rey Cometa versus Impluso to it’s 11/17 show, joining Belial vs Ricky Marvin and Black Terry vs Solar.
Satanico & Espectro Jr. are interested in coming back to active status as a version of the Infernales. Satanico says he’d like to face Negro Navarro & Solar I.
Hijo del Kato Kung Lee took Ultmo Samuray Jr.’s mask on a tribute show to his father. I have only one record of a previous Ultimo Samuray Jr. match, in Hidalgo three years ago.
LuchaWorld has PosterMania!
DJ Spectro looks at the original Rayo de Jalisco.
The Negro Navarro versus Shu el Guerrero match is clarified to be a UWF Heavyweight Championship match.
Rey Cometa’s brother Espiritu Negro & Optimus are training with CMLL. Optimuz is not realated, but a friend from Queretaro.
CMLL’s promo for Friday’s show.
AAA posted it’s one two three part interview with La Parka.
Sadica retained the LLF title over Tsunami.

Breakdown of Arena Naucalpan shows since 09/16
IWRG: 5
RCH: 3
CMLL/Furor: 2
FILL: 1
More non-IWRG shows than IWRG shows recently. This RCH show follows an Furor show, which means they’ll go at least 11 days without an IWRG show (and one of those shows should turn up on AYM.)
Dr. Wagner Junior stabbed in the wrist (and Hijo del Santo says crazy things)
Dr. Wagner Jr. was attacked on his way home yesterday. The attacker stabbed him near his wrist, creating a huge and ugly gash near his wrist. There’s a bloody and graphic picture of the wound on Hijo del Santo’s Facebook. There’s also a picture on @WagnerJrOficial, though I have no idea if that’s really his Twitter (or how we’d be able to verify.) There’s no word on how this will affect Wagner going forward or how long he’ll be out of action. Everyone hopes he recovers fully and is back soon.
There is a theory about the attacker. El Hijo del Santo posted this message on his above linked Facebook. Bold for the important line.
¡Estimados amigos!
Santo’s saying the attack was not a random assault, but related to the Wagner’s deceleration about someone trying to steal his identity in the US. Santo makes sure not to refer to AAA directly and the Todo x el Todo Twitter woke up from a long slumber to point that out, but I fail to see who else Santo could’ve been talking about here. Hijo del Santo is implying AAA sent a guy to knife Dr. Wagner Junior. (Dr. Wagner Jr. has said NOT publicly said anything like this.)
I do not believe AAA sent a guy to stab Dr. Wagner Junior. I do not believe I just had to type that last sentence. If you read the AAA statements or saw their comments, it was very obvious AAA does not care about the Dr. Wagner name. They care about the hassle Wagner’s putting them thru, and the distraction he’s caused when they have better things to do, but they’d be beyond thrilled if Wagner just paid them the money and this all went away. They also have to realize he’s not paying the money, but having this fade away is a win for them and they’d want to do nothing to make this a bigger issue going forward I feel fairly certain AAA would not be sending a knife wielding assassin after anyone for any reason, but this issue would be pretty low on the list of reasons to go stab someone.
El Hijo del Santo is a liar. That’s okay, lots of wrestlers turn out that way, it helps a bit. Hijo del Santo and Todo x el Todo blatantly lied about the cancellation of the Zocalo show, using hurricane relief as a reason to scrub a show that was never actually going to happen. This one is minor compared to that, and more manipulation of the truth for his own benefit – Wagner did really get stabbed, and Santo really hates AAA. If Santo really had proof this was related to the trademark issue, he had to present it when he made the accusation. He didn’t, and that’s probably actionable.
Dr. Wagner’s next known match is Sunday in Arena Azteca Budokan, and that’s a show he’s likely to make even if he can’t work. Hopefully we’ll find more about his condition by then.
