Pequeno Nitor vs Aereo for the masks, Volador vs Niebla (& Devitt!), Loco Max out of CMLL, Rush in G1

CMLL (SUN) 07/08/2012 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Camorra & Cholo COR Freesbe & Höruz
Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Aereo, Astral, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
Tecnicso took 2/3. Aereo and Warrior continue to feud, Aereo sneaking in a foul on Nitro after Astral & Olimpico were eliminated.
3) Hikaru, Princesa Sugheit, Tsukasa b Dalis la Caribeña, Lluvia, Luna Mágica
Rudas took 1/3. Crowd enjoyed Hikrau (who pinned Luna for the win) and Tsukasa (who managed to dropkick three people in one kick!)
4) Pegasso b Raziel [lightning]
Pegasso pulled off the upset win in about 7 minutes.
5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Ángel de Oro, Delta, Hijo del Fantasma
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Shocker b Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.
Straight falls for the tecnicos, thanks to Niebla and Volador having all sort of problems during the match. They challenged each other after the match.

During the fifth match, CMLL’s Twitter account reported Pequeno Nitro and Aereo will face off in a mask vs mask match next week, which will be back in Arena Mexico again. Those two actually started feuding back in May for a couple weeks, then Aereo disappeared for about a month. They’ve been back at it for the last four weeks. Pequeno Nitro is a slight favorite.

Loco Max has left CMLL. He’ll be working indies, and has already been announced for IWL’s next show. His last CMLL show was 06/04 in Puebla, and he’d only worked about five times in CMLL in the month before (plus the DragonMania show.) He posted on Facebook that he was quiting CMLL just this weekend, but obviously something must’ve happened if they were already cutting down on booking him.

The CMLL announcers, both on CMLL Radio and on today’s Terra broadcast, are saying New Mistico will start in the second or third match. That’s much lower position than Dragon Lee was in. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Rob has highlights of 11/18/11 CMLL and December 11, 2011 Arena Puebla, plus thoughts on Ultimo Guerrero’s wins since being put in charge.

Lucha Libre in Japan

07/08 NJPW: Jushin Liger, Tiger Mask IV, KUSHIDA [O], Maximo b Rocky Romero, Alex Koslov, Jado, Gedo [X]

On the same show, Prince Devitt made his first defense of the NWA Middleweight Championship, defeating Taichi (despite much cheating from Taichi and crew.) Late today, NJPW announced Devitt’s next challenger: Volador Junior! Volador will travel to Kouraken Hall on July 29th to try to reclaim his title. It’s one half of a double main event with two ‘junior’ championships (Low Ki vs Kota Ibushi.)

Durign the show, NJPW announced the participation and blocks for it’s annual heavyweight league tournament, the G1. Rush is the singular CMLL representative this year, in Block B. His schedule

08/01: Hirooki Goto vs. Rush
08/03: Rush vs. Lance Archer
08/04: Rush vs. Kazuchika Okada
08/05: MVP vs. Rush
08/07: Tetsuya Naito vs. Rush
08/08: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Rush
08/10: Togi Makabe vs. Rush
08/11: Rush vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
08/12: (off – final)

Again, off day on the final means he’s not involved in the final. This an extremely tough block; Stuart at Strong Style Spirit is noted it has five of the top six pushed guys in NJPW (just missing Tanahashi). Like Angel de Oro, Rush’s best chances for a win come early; he came close to beating Goto last time around, and Lance Archer is the most beatable wrestler in this group, but no sure bet. 1-8 is a plausible outcome, but Rush does not respect hierarchies, much less predictions, so who knows. Rush will make people’s lives miserable, what he does best.

It is a bit amazing where we’ve come on Rush, from eighteen or twenty four months ago. This concept would’ve been a struggle in 2010, both in level of performance and chances of Rush making it thru in one place. Now, it looks like chances for a few great matches. The Naito vs Rush match sticks out in particular, and it makes me realize that we really need CMLL to do Rush vs Sombra sometime.

Rush on this tour means the CMLL Universal tournament won’t be happening in early August. I wouldn’t expect to see it until post-Olympics (though not that long between that and the NFL season starts.)

Ultimo Guerrero wins and remodels his group, Volador drops Sombra on his head

CMLL (FRI) 07/06/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Artillero & Súper Comando b Camaleón & Metálico
Super Comando snuck in a foul on Camaleon.
2) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Marcela b Hikaru, Lady Apache, Tsukasa
Dark Angel pinned Lady Apache
3) Virus b Fuego [lightning]
Virus won with a campana
4) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo del Fantasma b Misterioso Jr., Namajague, Shigeo Okumura
Delta pinned Misteroso
5) Último Guerrero b AtlantisTitánDiamanteTritonRey CometaEuforiaNiebla RojaPólvoraPuma King [cibernetico]
Puma beat Cometa, Eufroia beat Triton, Diamante beat Polvora, Atlantis beat Puma, Diamante beat Niebla Roja, Guerrero beat Diamante, Titan beat Euforia, Ultimo Guerrero beat Atlantis, and Euforia snuck in a foul on Titan to give UG the win. Titan & Atlantis demanded a rematch for next week, won’t be getting it.
6) Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr. b Diamante Azul, La Máscara, La Sombra
Rudos took 1/3, Volador beating Sombra with the Volador Spiral.

In a post show interview, Ultimo Guerrero said Euforia is now a member of the Guerreros, Niebla Roja is a member of the reserve squad, and Rey Escorpion has been cut. We’ll see if this actually picked up in the scheduling.

I hope Virus got a good transfer fee (and doesn’t lose his mind like Sangre Azteca.)

5) Dragón Rojo Jr. vs Titán [CMLL MIDDLE]

6) Averno, Mephisto, Volador Jr. vs La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Rush

Looks like they’re doing Volador/Sombra on top. (APPROVED.)

CMLL.com lineup accidentally says Dragon Rojo vs Dragon Rojo, an existential battle. It does not seem like Titan will ever actually be in a main event despite winning that bit.

First match for Nosferatu since November, where he fell off the top rope and claimed a knee injury. It did not look like a knee injury. He was solicited on a card back in March, but replaced.

X-Fly wins again, Mexico preview, Yujiro

7) X-Fly b Veneno [Copa Pirata Moreno, final]

Tonight’s Arena Mexico main event is Diamante Azul, La Mascara and La Sombra vs Averno, Mephisto, and Volador Jr. It looks like a very strong match, though it’s one with no storyline leading into it, much different than they’ve done of late. It also features some guys who haven’t been featured of late. CMLL sent out a press release trumpeting tonight as the big return of Averno. I didn’t know he was gone! I am pretty sure a match of his recently, but they do have a point. It’s Averno’s first Arena Mexico match since June 17th, and his first Friday night Arena Mexico match since April 13th, nearly three months ago. He’s been working elsewhere, and Friday night shows have been crowded with focus on the Guerreros, the Invasors, and the women, but it’s still a bit unusual.

The semimain is an attack of the living dead tournament, as En Busca de Un Idolo celebrates CMLL not bothering to take down their banners around ringside with an everyone in cibernetico. The coaches (Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis), seven of the participants (minus Dragon Lee) and Rey Cometa will be involved. There’s no particular prize, but probably a new feud or something coming out of it. (I don’t like Titan’s chances!) Cometa was selected specifically because of his feud with Puma King, and says he wants to beat Puma King clean after all the times Puma’s cheated him lately.

Fuego and Virus are in the lightning match. The rest of the ex-national trios champions team with Fantasma to face Fiebre Amarillo and Misterioso. The women’s trio Hikaru, Tsukasa, and Lady Apache vs Dark Angel, Estrellita and Marcela, which is probably more Dark Angel vs Lady Apache but also the best chance for a good match out of the REINA’s tag team champs.

DTU is teasing participation from Dragon Gate’s World 1 group on a 08/19 show. That group is Naruki Doi, Masato Yoshino, Rich Swann, Ricochet and PAC (though maybe not so much PAC anymore.)

Yujiro talked to the NJPW website on his return. As with many of the NJPW guys, they return back to CMLL trying to push a new aspect of their persona. Yujiro emphasis his controversial antics in CMLL, calling himself a R Rated character. (That seems familiar.) Yujiro says he got in trouble with CMLL and television stations for going too far, but now has a new gesture to show off in NJPW (which is surely the one he was doing in Mexico for the last month.) If he really did get in trouble, it’s probably for grabbing the edecan.

Tsukasa and Hiraku told Fuego en el Ring that the fans in Mexico were very different, some shouting support and some complaining. That does sound like Guadalajara. They already want to return to Mexico.

Rob has video of Super Boy vs Captian Oro from 1995.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 07/13/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Azteca de Oro & El Divino vs Acertijo & Thunder Boy
2) El Alteño & Javier Cruz Jr. vs Infierno & Magnum
3) Black Metal, El Adalid De Mexico, Máscara Mágica vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Demonio Maya, Skándalo
Adalid is a new name.
4) Solar I & Valiente vs Negro Navarro & Virus

final two advance to a final (on a different show)

This is a weird card. Last (and only!) recorded champion is Sheriff in 2004, who is now IWRG Heavyweight champ Cien Caras Jr. He beat Leon Blanco, who gets another shot 8 years later.

Semimain looks superb. I wish I could see that one.

Adalid de Mexico is a new name. Mascara Magica is an old name who hasn’t been wrestling of late.

AAA AULL (SUN) 07/15/2012 Arena Lopez Mateos
3) La Vaquerita vs Keira
4) Cerebro Maligno, Herejía, Judas el Traidor, Rey Krimen vs Epitafio, Leviatham, Samael, Tormento
5) Ángel de la Noche vs Terry 2000, Yakuza, Rey Krystal, Iron Love, Sádico, Chucho el Roto, Spider Boy [Copa ALM 45th]
6) Daga, Super Crazy, Texano Jr. vs Negro Navarro, Robin Maravilla, Rocky Santana
7) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Tinieblas Jr. vs Canek & Máscara Año 2000 Jr.

Not to be confused with the similar show they’re running on Saturday. Main event is the first time Dr. Wagner and Canek have faced since Wagner joined AAA (or fled to avoid giving back the UWA Heavyweight Title, if you’re Canek.)

ACM: who knows. Maybe Headhunter vs Neurosis

IWRG-TVC Deportes: The show going on right now, with X-Fly, Truama II, Veneno and Scorpio in the main event.

IWRG-Vibra: still listed on the schedule, but doubtful.

AYM does not list lucha libre this week.

There’s a show called “El Mundo de Lucha Libre” on a channel called MexiCanal at 1AM Eastern Friday Night/Saturday. I’m taping it, but your guess on the content is as good as mine.
