Marco win streak snapped, Atlantis/UG, IWAS/NWA, Reyes del Aire

CMLL (FRI) 01/27/2012 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Artillero & Súper Comando b Enrique Vera Jr. & Soberano Jr.
2) Amapola, La Comandante, Zeuxis DQ Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Estrellita, Marcela
straight falls, DQ for Amapola accidentally spearing the referee. Estrellita and Amapola are still feuding.
3) Diamante, Metro, Sagrado b Ephesto, Misterioso Jr., Vangelis
Metro took out Ephesto with his german suplex to get the win. Ephesto also was strechered out.
4) Negro Casas TLDRAW Blue Panther [lightning]
Went to a ten minute draw while both had a leg submission on. Panther asked the commission for ten minute more minutes. They didn’t give it to him, so he just fouled Negro. Fans were behind Casas.
5) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Mephisto, Rey Escorpion, Último Guerrero
Mephisto replaced Dragon Rojo. Rudos jumped the tecnicos. Straight fall win for the tecnicos, UG blatantly fouling Atlantis for the DQ.
6) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Volador Jr. b Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush
Marco (and his trio’s) win streak is over, though he still didn’t take the direct pin. Terrible powerbombed Rush, and pinned him with his feet on the ropes.

RadioCMLL’s footage is not working right for me today. Maybe you’ll have better luck. Omii Casas was part of their broadcast crew last night.

IWAS NWA (FRI) 01/27/2012 Discoteque Hysteria [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Sombra de Oro TLDRAW La Calaca
15 minute time limit.
2) Rey Leo, Rey Merucrio, Shadow b Centellita, Cronos, Holkan
3) Aztlan, Eragón, Principe Infernal, Tornado b Chavo Banda, Fugitivo, Íkaro, Vertigo Negro
4) Antar, Hanaoka, Terremoto b Goskart, Raider, Rey Kumbiaton
IWAS (Raider’s team?) vs NWA (Antar’s team?)
5) Miss Janet, Rossy Moreno, Tiffany b Estrellita, Lady Sensacion, Marcela
The reunited Brujaas defeated their opposition in a single fall match
6) Blue Demon Jr., Dunkel, Heddi Karaoui b Lapida, Ray Mendoza Jr., Tinieblas Jr.
One fall match, which may have been the case for the entire show. Rey Mendoza replaced Skayde. Demon (NWA) snuck in a foul on Tinieblas for the win.

This show is not interesting in itself – besides noting this very low level promotions are currently existing, and making the IWL/DTU promotional feud look relatively important – but it’s also confusing. AYM aired an IWAS vs NWA show this morning, apparently the same building featuring

1) “Fleydee Key” vs Senki
2) Sharon Lee vs  Chispita
3) Super Nova & Voltan vs Kansuke & El Tapatio (said to be from Chicago?)
4) Huracan Ramiez, Rey Kumbiato vs Fishman Jr., Rider
5) Heddi Karaoui vs Jaque Mate

I assumed this was just some older taping from the same group. However, Black Terry Jr. has video of the main event and photos of the show, which include photos from both these televised matches and the ones Estrellas recaped. Maybe this was a double show and EdR only got the last half of the results? Most confusing is AYM Sports, a network that has trouble with basic things like aspect ratios and remembering to air new episodes, managed to air a lucha show a day (or less) after it was taped.

Trueno has disappeared from CMLL. He was last seen 10/30 at Arena Coliseo. He had suffered a bad head injury earlier this fall, but did return for some matches and nothing was noted about him in that last match.

Shocker, in an interview with Ooorale magazine (found by Porra Fresa), says he missed a show in November due to his drinking and he’s currently suspended by CMLL for it. That would be the start (and the end!) of the Titan/Triton trio.

Casandra and Silueta, in separate interviews, talk up their chances of winning the REINA tag team titles tomorrow (or later tonight, Central Time.) Casandra, a long time indy luchadora, mentions she had to pass a tryout match in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara before getting to go on this tour. That’d be 10/21 match, which had her listed as “Kasandra”. Silueta’s hoping to become a double champion.

Guadalajara’s In Memoriam’s new mask has an “X” design reminiscent of Dr. X’s masks. He told Fuego en el Ring he’s wearing in tribute to the deceased luchador, who had given him encouragement to keep practicing. In Memoriam smartly has no opinion on the luchadors who’ve recently left Arena Coliseo Guadalajara and is totally fine with the new guys coming in.

Rob has reposted highlights from 08/25/95 AAA.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/03/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Molotov vs Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Lady Apache vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit
3) Ángel de Oro, Delta, Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr., Titán, Valiente vs Euforia, Hijo del Signo, Mr. Águila, Pólvora, Puma King, Raziel, Rey Escorpion, Tiger, Virus [Reyes del Aire]
4) Atlantis vs Último Guerrero

Atlantis and Ultimo talked about a match with no referee, but they’re not advertising that this time.

Angel de Oro won last year’s Reyes del Aire. Mascara Dorada is the favorite. Valiente has a good shot too, and could become the only man to ever be the reigning bodybuilding and high flying champion at the same time. Aguila has the best chance of the rudos, with Tiger being a real dark horse candidate, maybe getting a win to prove he belongs in TRT. Diamante, Dragon Lee (still hurt), Fantasma, Bala, Pegasso, Sagrado, Halcon, Triton are eight more tecnicos who could’ve been involved (plus the likes of Sombra, Mascara and Voaldor, who are seen as beyond this level.) They don’t actually need any more people: this is already a packed eighteen  man cibernetico, two more than usual.

Estrellita vs Amapola is being built as strong as feud they’re doing. They’re not going to main event a major show with it, because they just don’t do that with women’s matches, but it does seem like a possible semimain or third from the top sometime down the road.

IWRG (THU) 02/02/2012 Arena Naucalpan
1) Astro Rey Jr. vs Súper Black
2) Astro de Plata & Eragón vs Comando Negro & Pacto Negro
3) Centvrión, Freyser, Tritón vs Eterno, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Carta Brava Jr. vs Saruman [IWRG IC Light]
5) Angelico, Hernandez, Toscano vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Cien Caras Jr., Oficial 911

Hernandez back again. And Saruman gets his title match.

IWRG (THU) 01/26/2012 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, the Gladiatores]
1) Kaving & Pacto Negro b Matrix Jr. & Volaris
2) Oficial Factor & Oficial Rayan b Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
Oficial Factor debuted, replacing Oficial Spartan.
3) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Kortiz b Golden Magic, Tony Rivera, Tritón
4) Negro Navarro, Saruman, Veneno b Carta Brava Jr., Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo de Pirata Morgan
Carta Brava and Sauramn feuded. Saruman beat Carta and challenged for his lightweight title. Match should go next week.
5) Angelico, Centvrión, Toscano b Cien Caras Jr., Eterno, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.
Toscano showed up! Estrellas del Ring recap refers to Eterno as “Rey de Facebook”. Rudos took the first. In the second, Centvrión attempted a moonsault over their corner post onto Eterno, but got no distance and landed chest first on the post. The match stopped, with everyone checking on him and taking him away. Tecnicos lost 3 on 2.

Today’s CMLL show is main evented by Marco trying to keep his winning streak, against a team including the returning Terrible. Blue Panther hopes Negro Casas finally signs for the hair match, not caring about the date. Los Guerreros, in hyping their feud with Reyes del Atlantida, mention that Dragon Rojo is doubtful to wrestle tonight. The leg injury that he’s been dealing with late got worse in Puebla and hasn’t gotten better yet.

Perros del Mal started to hype a mystery luchador appearing on their 02/14 show in Arena Aficion, with people in the know saying it was a former members of Perros del Mal who’s better know with feuding with them. That description could fit Shocker or Latin Lover. Perros del Mal have since started to specifically tease Latin Lover showing up. Latin Lover probably could generate some good attention and business for this group, but not in Arena Aficion. That building has been full the last couple of times Perros del Mal has visited for TV and there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t be again even without Latin. It’s only a 2000 seat building, which wouldn’t be a lot of room for Latin to make a difference. Latin coming in will greatly entertain some people, but it doesn’t seem to make any sense for this building – perhaps they’ll move it to a larger building.

An AAA press release hyping Daga’s official debut post-QPPC win (and apparently as Daga this time) mentions his opponents as Parka, Dark Dragon and Tito. No Escoria, so they did fix that oddness.

Rob has highlights of early October 1995 AAA.

CMLL and AAA are back on opposite days in Mexico, CMLL on Saturday, AAA on Sunday. However, neither has been restored to their pre-NFL 2 hour time slot. They’ve just gone each.

CMLL is OFF Galavision in the US this week. They’re airing a tripleheader of soccer – but also an old Santo movie and various reruns. Guerreros del Ring should most likely be back on this week. If it’s not, CMLL’s gone from airing five hours of new CMLL in the US each week to zero over the last couple of months.

Ras de Lona doesn’t even appear to be on VivaSports this week. They canceled the show that was focused on the news of the promotion. (News is not serious.)

There’s also an hour of mystery lucha libre on AYM Sports this Saturday at 11 AM central (right after Sobre el Ring, which has been in reruns the last three weeks.) No telling if it’s new stuff.

52MX: if it’s back on, it’s back to Coliseo for a couple of grab bag matches.

Televisa: Fuego/Sagrado/Sangre vs Cancebreros + Guerreros vs Atlantida

FOX: Amapola/Estrellita lightning match and Peste Negra vs Panther. It makes sense to swap these two shows this week, since they’ll have to cut down the first trios to lightning match length anyway, but this what they’ve been doing of late.

C3: Pesta Negro vs Angel de Oro, Mascara, Super Porky, Invasors vs Fuego/Fantasma/Sangre, Cancerberos vs Tuareg

Mega6: Titan (Polvora) and Triton (Rafaga) in singles matches, plus TRT vs unbeatable Marco.

Puebla: Rudos vs Rudos, Invasors vs Atlantida

ACM: Nuevo Laredo vs Monterrey, pick a side.

PdM: Neza?

IWRG: the show that just happened an hour ago.

recap

Mascara Dorada

Héctor Garza, Máscara Dorada, Toscano vs Mephisto, Rey Bucanero, Terrible: short two fall match that didn’t do anything particularly interesting with the time. Probably better the time is spent elsewhere, though Dorada and Toscano both seemed willing to do more than they got here.

Volador

Volador Jr. vs Jushin Lyger in the Leyenda de Plata Tournament final: An okay to good standard CMLL singles match; they needed to do more before they started the dives and the near falls, but they didn’t. They did have a lot of good near falls, but it wasn’t a loud enough crowd (or a well miced enough crowd) to really get into it. A bit disappointing, in line with the rest of Lyger’s 2011 run.

Puebla, Titan/Polvora, Negro Casas on his feud, indy notes, lineups

CMLL (MON) 01/23/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Lestat & Milenium b Fuerza Chicana & Siki Ozama Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Stigma, Super Halcon Jr. b Loco Max, Puma King, Skándalo
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Titán b Cancerbero, Euforia, Raziel
Rudos took 2/3.
4) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Kraneo, Morphosis, Olímpico
Rudos took 1/3. This one with a bit of issue, Olimpico sneaking in a foul on Altantis. Invasors challenged for a title shot, but Atlantis refused to give it to them under the circumstances.
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Averno, Mr. Águila, Psicosis
Averno jumped Ultimo Guerrero as he was entering. His team took fall 1, beating up Zacarias along the way. Team Averno continued to work over Guerrero with the other two out of action – Dragon’s leg injury showed up here again – but Niebla recovered to start the comeback and he and Guerrero beat Psicosis and Aguila in the second. Third fall came down to Averno & Guerrero, Guerrero winning clean with the Guerrero Special.

CMLL (TUE) 01/24/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Javier Cruz Jr. & Thunder Boy b Acertijo & In Memoriam
2) Arkángel de la Muerte & Èvola b Black Metal & Starman
Match came down to Evola reversing a ‘rana on Starman and grabbing the ropes for the pin.
3) Triton b Ráfaga
4) Titán b Pólvora
Titan asked for a title shot after winning this non-title match over the national welterweight championship.
5) La Sombra, Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Tiger
Marco’s win streak remains intact over the new TRT. Tecnicos took 1/3, Terrible fouling Marco in mid-hipswivel

The Gladiatores are broadcasting tonight’s IWRG show. Check in to see if Toscano actually showed.

Negro Casas brags that he and Panther have had more than just “hitting, kicking, or slapping.” I guess he’s right, they’ve only been 95% that. (The rest has been fouls, martinetes, and suspensions.) The idea that it’s been a technical war as much as a brawl does not square with any match I’ve seen in this feud.

X-Project announced Raven, who was really good 17 years ago,  as being part of their debut show on 02/19.

Davey Richards vs Daga is taking place on 02/19 for new promotion “DDD”. No mention a location or what those letters stand for. LuchaPOP is also on 02/19 – was there some deal with tickets from the US that weekend or something?

Rob has highlights of 04/21 & 04/30/95 AAA and 1/3/12 of CMLL

top six stories of the last two weeks

  • MS-1 passed away.
  1. TV situation is still not good. CMLL’s main show and AAA were completely off of Televisa for a week (the week “CMLL” won the WO.com poll for best show), but were back the next week in compressed slot. It looks like they’ll soon be getting back their separate days (CMLL on Saturday and AAA on Sunday), but not their two hour time slots; both are restricted to 60 minutes, 35 after commercials. AAA’s syndicated a Televisa Regional telecast to make due, but it’s very hard to find.
  2. AAA’s first TV taping of the year picked up where the last one left off, with the El Consejo faction all over the show. Ex-CMLL preliminary wrestlers Mortiz and Semental were added to the faction, which seemed focused on antagonizing new rudo Octagon. The pre-existing AAA rudos and tecnicos all talked about running El Consejo off while refusing to work together. Unrelated to the rest of the show, Jack Evans and Perro Aguayo continued to feud in the main event.
  3. The CMLL & NJPW FantasticMania shows sold out both nights. Sombra and Volador main evented the second night with a great match. All the CMLL wrestlers did well, with Rush notably aquitting himself very well in his Japan debut.
  4. An interview with Volador Jr. revealed CMLL programming is unhappy with him for his colorful and ever changing masks. They’d prefer he just stuck to one look, believing the fans are confused. Volador believes the fans are not that dumb.
  5. A trios main event featuring TV host/ringmaster Ernesto Chavana sold out Arena Coliseo Monterrey.
  6. Marco Corleone is 8-0 since returning to CMLL, and the promotion is starting to play up the win streak.

Other Stories

  • Bobby Bonales will be the luchador legend honored at Dos Leyendas
  • Reyes del Atlantida (Atlantis’s crew) was busy – they kept their trios titles over one set of Invasors in Guadalajara, will soon defend the same titles against another combo of Invasors in Puebla, and have some title match (tag?) with the Guerreros coming up in Arena Mexico.
  • Blue Panther and Negro Casas resumed their feud.
  • Cancerberos vs Tuareg continue to feud.
  • Triton (IWRG) says he’s won the rights to the name, and just needs to talk to CMLL to work out an agreement.
  • Dragon Lee is out until mid January with a knee injury.
  • Drago is out with a facial injury. Dragon Rojo and Ultimo Dragoncito are also dealing with injuries; it’s been a harsh Year of the Dragon so far.
