9) Davey Richards b Daga [ROH HEAVY]
Davey keeps the title. Originally appeared to be announced as the main evnet.
10) Super Crazy b Necro Butcher

Does not look like this show drew well either.

The night prior in IWL, Necro Butcher’s trio beat Los Porros; there’s video of that match here. BT Jr. has video of the Super Crazy vs Joe Lider match and a Kansuske/Tribal/Latin Star triangle match from that show. Daga also lost on that show, to Juvi in a singles match, and IWL’s announced Daga has vacated their Junior Heavyweight Championship in response to these loses.

7) Negro Navarro b Nicho el Millionario
Nicho missed the legdrop, Negro hit him with a lamp and submitted him.

Black Terry Jr. has video of that match, and the state Nicho was in after the match.

CMLL (SUN) 10/16/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La CatedralRecord]
1) Cholo & Ramstein b Camaleón & Freesbe
This is the most opening match possible.

Tecnicos took 1/3. Leono submitted Inquisidor for the win.
3) Dragon Lee, Metal Blanco, Sagrado b Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel
Sagrado replaced Rey Cometa. Dr. X, who had been gone for three months, was listed on the rudo side originally (even though there was no chance he was ever working). Raziel replaced him on the card after Dr. X’s death, and CMLL never actually addressed the situation.
4) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Ephesto, Mephisto, Rey Escorpion
Warrior beat Ephesto in the first fall, but Mephisto beat Panther, and those were the captains. Guerrero Maya pinned Mephisto with a ‘rana in the third. Warrior and Maya had some problems in the third fall, leading to the tecnicos loss. Warrior again angrily stormed out.
5) Héctor Garza, Jushin Lyger, Shocker DQ Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
Tecnicos took fall 1, then Bucanero fouled Garza for the DQ.
6) Volador Jr. b Atlantis
Volador took 1 & 3, the last with the ref going down and Volador pulling Atlantis’ mask to set up the winning cradle.

Other News

Reports all weekend said many luchadors tried out for WWE during this tour, especially the two days they were in Mexico City. I believe it was Enrique Yniesta who first said there were seven CMLL wrestlers who tried out Sunday, and independent and AAA wrestlers who had tried out Saturday. La Catedral doubles that number, and says 15 CMLL luchadors tried out. Referee Edgar Noriega, who’s also Paco Alonso’s nephew and on the programming committee at last check, was reported by SuperLuchas to be among a few CMLL official sitting in the first rows at Sunday’s SmackDown taping.

edit: Over on Facebook, La Catedral says his post should be taken to mean “15 CMLL luchadors have tried out all time”, and not just today.

On the actual show, Sin Cara Azul (Mistico) defeated Sin Cara Negro for his mask, as was expected. Does not appear they had the former Mystico/Incognito/Hunico announce his name. This show was already 90% (or more) sold out before they announced this match; how many months of 10K shows would CMLL have gotten if they had run the same feud? It was too late by then, but Incognito would’ve been the best possible leader of the Invasors for the shock factor.

WWE also announced Mil Mascaras will be inducted in their Hall of Fame in 2012. The induction ceremony is held the weekend of WrestleMania.

Amapola response to Marcela’s title challenge on Friday: “Once again Marcela, I’ve lost track if you’ve lost 10, 11 or 12 times, but I’m not invincible and miracles do exist, so I will see you next week.” They clearly thought they were going to have the title match next week, but Amapola mocking the number of time they’ve done this match is hilarious.

SuperLuchas #434 has Mil Mascaras & Dr. X. The magazine actually had the news about Mil in the HOF earlier today, which is why you subscribe.

SuperLuchas also says CMLL demanded Dr. X sign a new contract which would’ve allowed them to cut him at any time if he lost his mask. Mexican workers have certain rights to continued employment as long as they’re showing up to work, which came up with the Psicosis/Alebrije/others vs AAA legal situation. It sounds like CMLL was asking Dr. X to give up those rights in exchange for a mask payoff, he refused, and there probably was (is?) an ongoing legal situation. Dr. X being listed for CMLL shows they knew he wasn’t going to be at probably plays in to it – gives CMLL ’cause’ to fire Dr. X for not showing, even though they knew Dr. X was not showing.

6) Atlantis, Jushin Lyger, Shocker b Dragón Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
Mr. Niebla & Zacarias were dressed like the Hulk. Rudos jumped the tecnicos to take the first fall, but the tecnicos took the last 2, Atlantis getting Niebla with a ‘rana in the third.

Another tribute to Dr. X was held before the fourth match.

Other news

Black Terry Jr. has photos of IWL’s show in Queretaro. It looks like they drew poorly. Ciudad y Poder doesn’t have results, but says the show lasted four hours and left a bitter taste.

Variety talks to Lemon Films, which continues to work with AAA about creating a new movie. Choice line: “AAA stages about 400 fights a year, drawing crowds to every single fight of 15,000 to 40,000, not just in Mexico but parts of the U.S., Rovzar told Variety.” Every single show draws 15,000 people?!?!? No date for the film.

Marisela Pena would like Octagon & La Parka to rethink this whole being evil thing. In a CMLL-ish bitter line, Marisela says those two are only famous because of AAA. (Octagon was a star in CMLL.) Marisela also says Dorian’s inexperience is causing errors. Looks to be going well for him right now. Really, instead of playing this as the usual betrayal anger, this should be a crisis of faith situation for the AAA side. If Octagon & Parka have decided they want to be on the other side, you’ve screwed up at the very least, and it may be time to admit you’ve been wrong at the most.

Other News

Tonight’s Arena Mexico is a ‘normal’ card, with Atlantis vs some of his enemies in the main event.

The second of two WWE shows in Monterrey drew 4,500, according to Record. That is not a good number! Record says Heroes Inmortales drew 7,500, which is 500 less than the Observer had. Of note, Sin Cara did not wrestle, citing a neck injury but did not have his neck in a brace or anything so he’ll probably be okay by the tapings. This may be a local oversaturation issue and not a Mexico wide one; tickets for the DF tapings look about sold out.

AAA posted video of a frustrated Octagoncito. He’s been trying to get a hold of Octagon all week to find out what that turn was all about, but Octagon has not been taking his phone calls.

El Brazo, doing an interview to hype up the DTU show this weekend, say he’s currently “AAA’s event coordinator.” Negro Navarro says his match will be a fight, not a circus. Estrellas del Ring also has interviews with Drastick Boy, Aero Boy, Violento Jack and Hormiga about the show.

IWL says the Joe Lider vs Necro Butcher in Pachuca is a five way. Davey Richards is missing the Queretaro show.

Some clean up about Heroes Inmortales:

There is no doubt it was the actual Octagon and actual La Parka who turned on Wagner. Same size guys as usual. Octagon did look more active and aggressive than any point since the last Pentagon was around, but it was clearly him. They could always back out of it later, but it wasn’t meant to be an impostor. WON says both guys have been told not to do interviews this week. We’re probably waiting until next Friday’s taping in Xalapa to get any sort of explanation. Can’t wait for that.

Parka & Octagon turning rudo is supposed to reinvigorate their career. This is annoyingly consistent with AAA’s usual tactics; they really need new people at the top, and they continue the shuffle around the same people around to do the same set of main event feuds. LA Park has been moving towards the tecnico side over the last few months, but the Bizarros must be joining the tecnico side too to keep the Cibernetico/Parka stuff going (and the Parka/Dark Family stuff is likely dead.)

Recent Notable Attendances
CMLL 09/30: 8,600 (source: WON)
AAA 10/09: 8,000 (source: WON)
WWE in MTY 10/12: 5,00o (source: Dorian Roldan News Network) or “officially 10,000” (source: LuchaMania board.)

Well, that’s no helpful.  The wrestling business is doomed. DOOMED. (Or things are just weird and one number shouldn’t be considered as all the evidence you need.) WWE is going to do much better elsewhere, but that’s still a shockingly low number. I wonder what number the Santo/indy show is going to do in MTY. Also, how well the LyC four way title matches show did; that looked like a full Arena Coliseo Monterrey.

The WON also says Casandro and AAA haven’t actually agreed on a deal yet. AAA wanted Mesias to beat Sting, but either Sting said no or TNA said no, so we got whatever finish that was. Despite that match being very poorly received, AAA wants to bring back Sting to team with Mesias. (Which would seem to indicate it’s not Sting who said no.)

Luchadors continue to look for better social security thru the Mexican government. A big press conference took place Wednesday, led by Daniel Aceves (last seen in CMLL presenting Copa Bobby Bonales) and attended by various CMLL luchadors (Atlantis, Garza, Bucanero, Niebla, Panther, Volador), Canek, politicians, and athletes from other second tier sports. All the sports want more support from the government, similar to Primera Division futbol. They’re specifically looking for tax deductions, help with medical expenses, more facilities, and more money spent into helping improve sports at grass roots level to keep Mexican sports strong. This follows politicians previously visiting Arena Mexico proposing the same ideas, so there may be some actual movement. Like a lot of lucha going on this week, it’s probably no coincidence they’re making this push the same time WWE is around.

Fuerza Guerrera will replace Dr. X on the upcoming IWL shows. CMLL is now listing Raziel as working Sunday’s Arena Mexico in Dr. X’s place; that was likely the plan all along.

Selected tickets for tomorrow’s Arena Mexico show are half off on this Groupon like site.

1) Fishman Jr. vs Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Jaque Mate Jr., Hijo de LA Park, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Gallo Tapado Jr., Ultramán Jr., Kung Fu Jr. [ruleta de la muerte]

It has to be Jaque Mate Jr., right? The one thing you can say about Rey Misterio Sr. taking over as commissioner here is they’re running far more shows in Tijuana of late. Might be other factors, but it’s good to see.
