1) Astro de Plata Jr. & Astro Rey Jr. b Alan Extreme & Keshin Black
2) Carta Brava Jr., King Drako, Picudo Jr. b Dinamic Black, Eterno, Golden Magic
Carta Brava beat Golden Magic again.
3) Billy el Malo, Escoria, Espíritu b Durok, Freeyser, Machín
Escoria & Billy replaced Cuervo & Ozz, who are still in Japan. AAA luchadors demanded a rematch after their loss.
4) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown DCO Cien Caras Jr., Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.
Dinamitas took one, Psychos took two, and dives at the end (topped by a Murder plancha) led to the countout. The two teams want a super libre rematch for next week.

CMLL (FRI) 09/23/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, La Catedral]
1) Lady Apache & Marcela b Princesa Blanca & Princesa Sugheit
Rudas took the first, tecnicas came back to win the last two
2) Volador Jr. b La MáscaraValienteStuka Jr.DeltaGuerrero Maya Jr.Metal BlancoPalacio NegroPólvoraShigeo OkumuraPuma KingTiger [Leyenda de Plata, semifinal]
Teams were Mascara, Polvora, Guerrero Maya, Delta, Palacio Negro, Tiger vs Valiente, Stuka, Volador, Metal Blanco, Okumura and Puma King. Eliminations went Tiger (via Stuka), Okumura (Maya), Puma (Palacio), Palacio (Metal), Delta/Stuka eliminated each other, Metal Blanco (Polvora), Guerrero Maya (Valiente), Polvora (Volador), Valiente (Mascara) and Mascara (Volador). Mascara did have fan support at the end, but crowd was happy to see Volador win. Maybe too much – Volador celebrated by attacking Monito.
3) Jushin Lyger, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada b Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Mephisto
tecnicos took 2/3, Lyger beating Averno.
4) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
TRT got themselved DQed in the first for excessive violence, then Peste took the second. Negro & Felino got casitas on Bucanero & Texano.
5) Atlantis b Último Guerrero
UG jumped Atlantis to win a quick fall one, Atlantis won a quick fall two and took fall three to win the match. UG had Atlantis up in an Atlantida, Atlantis escaped for a small package, then got his own Atlantida for the win. He appeared to be limping after the match.

This show included the final of the 3M mask creation contest. Not only did La Sombra appear to congratulate the winner, but so did Salvador Lutteroth Jr. Super Porky was the legend honored. I’m guessing these legends bits are to dispute the notion that CMLL is missing the older stars, since they’re honoring so many of them.

CMLL Gaceta has the winners of the 3M mask creation contest. There’s some really creative idea, but the best one won.

AAA announced Fabi Apache, Mari Apache, and Cinthia Moreno vs Sexi Star, Jennifer Blake and Velvet Sky in a lights off/glow in the dark match for Heroes Inmortales. What happened to Lolita? Lights off seems a weird choice for a women’s match; they’re there to be seen.

Sting “hyped” up his match was Mesias in a very generic and boring interview that’ll air on AAA TV today. I hope he brings more to the match than he did for that.

LuchaWorld has Ras de Lona from two weeks ago.

No full results available as of yet, but La Comandate and Zeuxis won the REINA tag team titles earlier today.

An show in desperate need of a strong semimain to get people interested has no such match. Only four matches too; the idea of VIP lightning match for September died a couple weeks. The two luchadors in the hottest and most acclaimed feud of the year here, La Mascara & Averno, are not either this card or the Guadalajara card. This will do worst than expected.

Lyger & Mascara Dorada are the clear favorites in this block.

I nearly forgot that. Which isn’t as bad as Ras de Lona getting pre-empted AGAIN. It’s off for U17 club soccer again, which looks like it’s played at a neighborhood park with no one watching. CMLL’s main show being one hour and one week behind reality is bad enough, the breaking news hype show only turning up one week behind that on the internet, and two weeks behind reality is ridiculous.

52MX: Demus/Warrior and Sombra/Volador, if they’re paying any attention.

LATV: week 1 (or 4) of Invasors vs Rush & Amigos + Blanca/Marcela.

TF: Astral/Pierrothito is the swing match, but the other matches look good, including Sombra/Valiente/Oro vs Avernos.

CMLL: surely Sombra/Averno and probably the cibernetico, if they can manage time well.

AAA: website lists the minis match, the Electro/Metal vs Chessman/Silver tag, and the main event Wagner/Mesias/Tiger vs Perros trios from Silao. Guessing they’re skipping the other two matches and moving on.

FOX: Lyger’s return, plus a grab bag match.

C3: week 3 (or 5) of Invasors vs Rush & Amigos (the title match)

Mega6: swing match is a Fuego/Metro/Sangre vs Cancerbero/Polvora/Vangelis match, but worth tuning in for Pierrothito/Bam Bam.

Puebla: 90 minutes, highlights by Avernos vs Maximo/Rush/Toscano

ACM: title match from last Sunday’s show?

PdM: ???

IWRG: Psychos vs Jr. Dinamitas.

Other News

Today’s Arena Mexico show will have a main event of Atlantis versus Ultimo Guerrero. A significant amount of people believed that match would be happening on this day, and the promotion did led them to believe it. Unfortunately, those people also thought September 23rd would be the anniversary show and the match would be for the masks, and neither of those are true. It still is the first major singles match between the two since their breakup (the Puebla match has been mostly ignored outside Puebla) and so a pretty big deal. It’s also the first super libre match in many years, and we’ll see if it actually makes much difference.

Elsewhere on the card, TRT feud face off Peste Negra in the final Friday preview before the cage match. TRT’s been dominant of late. Jushin Lyger teams with the two guys he spent the last year feuding with, Sombra and Mascara Dorada, which make sense as a setup for something but no guarantees here.

The Leyenda de Plata returns, though returning the second match on the card indicates a lack of importance. Like I said last week, La Mascara and Volador stick out as favorites, though it’s not impossible a Stuka or Valiente could break thru like Guerrero Maya did in the Super Light tournament, just because CMLL likes to spread out all the wins. More importantly, it could be a really great multiman match, because it’s full with fun people. Out of the twelve people, I’d say there are nine guys who are pretty reliably entertaining on their own (Volador, La Mascara, Stuka, Valiente, Guerrero Maya, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Tiger, Puma.) For the other three: Polvora has been in a really good match so we know he’s not hopeless, Delta’s weaknesses can be hidden in these sorts of matches, and Okumura is…Okumura. This is probably destined for Fox Sports, but worth seeking out next week.

On the Figure Four Daily with Dr. Lucha podcast, Steve mentioned the title match for Heroes Inmortales is supposed to be Jeff Jarrett vs LA Park. That makes some sense, but it totally blindsided me; it doesn’t feel like they’ve done much to hint in that direction.

NJPW’s channel posted Super Crazy & Ryusue Taguchi vs Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero from 04/28/2003, from Guerrero & Bucanero’s first tour with the promotion (and reminding people who Ultimo Guerrero is leading up his return.)

Tiger explains he’s not happy with Puma King – he worked too tecnico in those relevos increible matches recently, and is generally an immature kid – while Rey Bucanero has coached him up, so he’s 100% with Bucanero. Tiger expects to teach Puma a lesson tonight.

TVC Deportes says they’ll be airing CMLL’s 2010 Anniversary show this Sunday.  It’s been on YouTube for months and months, and really wasn’t that great, but I wonder what version they’ll be airing.

Lucha Libre in Japan

REINA 09/24:
1) Aio Ishibashi b Lady Afrodita
3) Amapola b Dama de Hierro
4) La Comandante & Zeuxis b Aki Kambayashi & Saya [REINA TAG, SF]

Team CMLL will face the Canadian Ninjas for the titles tommorrow (or later tonight for most of us.) They should end up with the titles, since they’re regular hairs and the Canadian team appears just in for this set of shows.
