Mistico defeats Sombra, faces Volador next week, Invasors win, Ciber

Mistico b Sombra/@cmllmagazine

CMLL (FRI) 09/10 Arena Mexico [@cmllmagazine, Cesar]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr. b Durango Kid & Puma King
2) Cancerbero, Demus 3:16, Raziel b Diamante, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Blue Panther & Máscara Dorada b Hijo del Fantasma & Stuka Jr. [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
4) La Sombra & Místico b Sagrado & Toscano [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
5) Brazo de Plata & Máximo b Rayo de Jalisco Jr. & Valiente [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
6) La Máscara & Shocker b Rush & Strong Man [Copa Bicentenario, eightfinal]
7) La Sombra & Místico b Blue Panther & Máscara Dorada [Copa Bicentenario, quarterfinal]
8) La Máscara & Shocker b Brazo de Plata & Máximo [Copa Bicentenario, quarterfinal]
9) La Sombra & Místico b La Máscara & Shocker [Copa Bicentenario, semifinal]
10) Místico b La Sombra [Copa Bicentenario tecnicos, final]
11) Charly Manson, Olímpico, Psicosis b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

Straight fall win for the Invasors. First fall was a DQ on Rey for shoving Tirantes (though it appears Bucanero just pointed at Tirantes and Tirantes fell down, then got back up to call the DQ.) Charly snuck a foul on Negro for the sweep.

The first match of the tournament was said to be really strong. The Porky/Maximo vs Rayo/Valietne match was said to be really poor. Rayo had red/white/green accents to his mask instead of his usual white. Stuka broke out a new black/white outfit for his loss, and Mistico & Sombra had fused outfits. Crowd was really behind Shocker in the tag final, but Mistico & Sombra beat La Mascara & Shocker with their own finishes. Sombra/Mistico was said to be good, with Mistico escaping La Mistica and applying it on Sombra for the win. Volador was at the announce desk, and he and Mistico had words to set up next week’s match.

Both Durango and Pegasso needed help after their matches.

La Parka says Cibernetico isn’t returning his phone calls since Parka accidentally him last week. Seems like they’re setting up a breaking point with Cibernetico on next week’s taping. In related news, AAA has a brief history of Cibernetico which tends to focus on the groups he’ s been part of.

Luchas2000 has Decnnis and Dr. Cerebro hyping a WWF Welterweight championship match for next Thursday. This is the random title Hijo del Diablo showed up with. There’s also a listing of where CMLL’s rolling museum will be appearing over the next couple months.

Canek wants to come back to Arena Mexico. “My performance has not decreased, and I am in a very good stage despite the injuries.” Hmmm. They haven’t given him any dates. Canek assures the writer that he’s working constantly in the north of the country, off TV, but he just thinks he’d fit in well with the Invasors.

AAA will have a press conference/concert to kick off Heroes del Ring on 10/07. It’s going to be a month away tomorrow, might actually want to go preorder it.

For what it’s worth, they were calling Averno’s belt the “NWA Historic” championship. CMLL’s going from using the NWA belt but not the name to using the name but not the belt, and I’m not sure why one is better than the other. Show also featuring Volador explaining how he could beat all 16 guys in the tecnico tournament, and Negro Casas wearing a blank belt while declaring himself #1 contender to Dorada’s title and then taking a phone call from Felipe Calderon.

In actual news: There was a tease of a Invasors/Pesta Negra hair match with all six hairs on the line in a trios match. Olimpico did his first post mask loss interview on this show and came across strong (though I’m not sure what to make of the teased feud with Psicosis since they teamed last night.) There was some hype for a CMLL show at Arena Lopez Mateos…on 09/16, running against the Perros and Invsaors shows. No full lineup, but Mistico & Sombra were names mentioned. Tiffany (using that spelling) was interviewed in the park about her upcoming debut.

Dorian Roldan is complaining me at Twitter for something (the size of Arena Naucalpan?) but I’ve legit been too busy to figure it out yet. I’m sure I’m wrong and he’s right.

Lineups

5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Olímpico, Psicosis
6) Místico vs Volador Jr. [Copa Bicentenario]

No hair match, though they continue that feud. Ras de Lona had Felino in Mr. Niebla’s spot. Bet they just didn’t figure he’d show up this week.

Battle of the super minis!

Much better match for Ayumi on this show. Dark Angel/Amapola again.

2010 AAA TV Lineup
Projected Air Date (#956)
Mexico: 09/26
US:  10/09

Lineup from Luchas2000. Six matches? Huh.

Esther’s been occasionally appearing on spot shows since her return last August (the Fabi/Aero/Sexi/Billy cage match, where Fabi got beat up after and Esther made the save and it never went anywhere.) Typically, when Esther is around, so is Groon XXX, but there’s been no mention of him for a long time.

Brzo vs the Militia. If that match airs, it seems like the first TV match for Crazy and Gato in a while.

Third match could be really good.

I keep thinking 187 are actually the tag team champions, so I’m glad they’re getting the tag title shot. Maybe I’ll figure it out one way or another. Worth noting that Electroshock’s whole team is listed as The Society; that seems to tip that the Maniacos are joining the super rudo faction and might get a little extra help in their title match.

Wagner, in a match. Hooray. Assuming they’re running a title match on Heroes Inmortales IV, they probably should be setting it up here – maybe Wagner vs Park.

IWRG, Masked Warrriors, GDL, Bicentenario, Mistico, Olimpico

IWRG (THU) 09/09 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (flickr), @gladiatores, Estrellas del Ring]
1) Alan Extreme b Super Halcon Jr.
2) Brazo Metalico & Dinamic Black b Carta Brava & Comando Negro
3) Chico Che, Eragon, Freelance DQ Avisman, Bombero Infernal, El Hijo del Diablo
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro, Oficial Marshal DQ Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.
5) Decnnis, El Mesías, Último Gladiador b Dr. Cerebro, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan

Edit/Rewrite:

Pirata got caught pinning Mesias with his feet on the ropes, but Mesias got away with it for the win.

DQ in the semimain was for Hijo de Cien hitting 911 with a chair. Bloody match.

Chico Che replaced Hijo de Pantera. His team won in straight falls. DQ was for Bombero punching Chico Che with a chain.

MW (THU) 09/09 Whataburger Field, Corpus Christi, Texas [@jeremysirio]
1) Chi Chi & Rosetta Park b Azteko & Mini Park
2) Súper Nova b Magno
3) Charly Malice b Oriental
4) Pequeño Halloween & Torerito b Mascarita Dorada & Octagoncito
5) Marco Corleone b Lizmark Jr.
6) Blue Demon Jr. b RJ Brewer

Stadium was 2/3rds filled. IIRC, this was the cheapest prices for a Lucha Libre USA show so far, with lots of $10/$5 tickets and the highest being $30 (where it’s been more like $60/30/20 elsewhere.)

Azteko and Mini Park held a Dance Off between the third and fourth match with people from the crowd. Last weekend, Rocky Romero was said to have done a bit of dancing during PWG’s Battle of LA tournament, and I suspect his mind gets possessed by the spirit of Azteko now and then.

Rudos pulled Dorada’s mask to get the upset win. If this happens to be the last show, I’d be thrilled that Pequeno Halloween went out a winner.

Jeremy says they announced the fifth match as the finals of a tournament, so I think they wrapped up the heavyweight title brackets off TV and Marco’s the champ, but we’ll see if they ignore this later. Super Nova and Sydistiko (??) were the seconds, Marco took the first, Lizmark took the second with some help, and the help backfired to allow Marco to win the third.

Blue Demon Jr. had the owners of the stadium in his corner for the main event.

CMLL FRAM (THU) 09/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Luna Mágica, Marcela
2) Demus 3:16, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Bam Bam, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito
3) Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
4) La Máscara, Máximo, Valiente b Dragón Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Místico b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

The FRAM sponsors shows come to Guadalajara! Or they’ve been there for a while and this one just got a report. Valets were showing off the latest in FRAM autoparts. VIPs got to watch the show with Sombra, La Mascara, Maximo, Valiente and Dragon Rojo, and also got free food. Good times.

Mascara Dorada got Negro Casas again with the casita to take the match.

Shockercito was a replacement for Mascarita Dorada, who was busy with that Masked Warrior show. Demus was with the minis because this lineup was done in advance of him winning the tournament. It might likely be his last minis match, so he killed Bam Bam for old time’s sake. CMLL.com posted an update today saying Demus has “declared war on” Sombra, Shocker, Mistico and STRONG MAN. Demus is a hero. I think, retroactively, we have to declare Pequeno Halloween and Pequeno Damian 666 the greatest tag team ever.

Generic preview of today’s shows. Generic SuperLuchas post of not manning up and making a pick. (C’mon, Alex, don’t pick two.) Generic poll for today’s show.

[poll id=”71″]

My pick is Sombra. Why not. It can’t be more off than Averno taking Mr. Niebla’s mask. Today, CMLL.com says Volador has only faced Sombra & Mistico in singles matches, and never any of the other 14 guys.  This is not exactly accurate, because he just faced Valiente & La Mascara in the Universal tournament, but perhaps they mean a three fall match.

Otherwise occupied tonight, or I might have run a chat; I’m very interesting in how this match is going to go. Might do one next week if it is the hair match and final, and probably will hold one on 10/01 since both promotions are running.

Fuego en el Ring talks to Olimpico, who is sad and nostalgic but content his mask went out fighting. Olimpico says Exodia has undergone four surgeries to repair a knee cap and it sounds like there’s nothing more they can do to repair it.

On Sunday in Guadalajara, after Mistico and Volador had their match, Mistico yelled at the fans for booing him. Both Mistico ripping the fans and Mistico getting booed in the first place are not big surprises, but I didn’t see this reported elsewhere.

Juvi, Damian, Halloween and Bestia 666 are headed to Italy for a show on 10/09. Looks like Angelico, who left Mexico a while back, is on that show too.

NJPW is running a Super J Tag League in November, a league format of junior tag teams. Mascara Dorada & Valiente were part of the single elimination version earlier this year and it’d make sense for a CMLL team to be included again, except the league is only 4-6 teams and that might not be enough for a CMLL team to make the cut. Worth watching to see if anyone (Sombra?) drops a mention of heading to Japan soon.

Mini Histeria is working hard in the gym to be ready for his title match.

Ephesto talks about surviving the cage match, and possibly having a title match soon with Gallo. Oddly, Ephesto, world champion of light heavyweights, wants a shot at being the Guadalajara champion of light heavyweights. Though I bet that gives away which way this is going.

IWL has added Damian 666 v Villano III to it’s next show, which should be a world title tournament match.

Heroes del Ring bios: Joe Lider (“the Monster Washing Machine” – wha?) and Kenzo Suzuki.

R de Rudo has video of Blue Demon Jr. vs Generico, though that match of epic proportions is shown at an odd proportion.

Stan the Embryo has the latest Slammin’ Stan.

Lineups

LOdLL (THU) 09/16 Arena Azteca Budokan
1) Concord & Rey Cronos vs Rey Neza & Skoolman
2) Histeria II, Mini Alebrije, Rossy Moreno vs Mini Oriental, Pequeno Angel, Tiffany
3) Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Canek Jr., El Hijo del Solitario, Ultramán Jr., Hijo de LA Park, El Hijo de Aníbal, Kung Fu Jr., Fishman Jr. [Copa Jr. 200th Nueva Leyendas]
4) Marco Corleone vs Lizmark Jr., Juventud Guerrera, Oriental, Charly Manson, Zumbido [cage, hair]

This show runs in opposition to the Perros show, and includes a guy whow as on the original lineup for that show (Marco) and plenty of guys who used to be on those shows. I’m thinking Charly isn’t losing his hair on Thursday. The semimain pushes the meaning of the words “Nueva” & “Leyendas”.

JUBA (SUN) 10/03 Aragon Music Hall
1) El Hijo Del Santo & Laredo Kid vs ? & Sangre Chicana Jr.

Odd for Laredo to be working an indy show with Santo.

Charly Manson, LLUSA, Perros, DTU

Charly Manson told SuperLuchas “Charly Manson, Mr. Aguila, and Hector Garza will face Rey Bucanero, Felino, Negro Casas in a hair match on 09/17“. That’s a lot more interesting match with Garza in it, though Pesta Negra still ought to win. In the interview, Charly points out he and Bucanero are about the same age, started about the same time, and were trained by the same people (Charly says Pirata Morgan, but Hombra Bala as well), so it’s actually a natural rivalry. SuperLuchas has a video interview with Pesta Negra, hyping up the match.

Charly’s interview also has info about Lucha Libre USA – Charly says he’s under a three year contract, signed back in March, but would like to renegoitation the contract to make CMLL the priority.  He was told they stopped filming shows because they were having problems with the cameras and the audios which was delaying tapings (???), but that they plan to start shooting TV in Albuquerque in about a month (!?!?!?), which would be the studio show we’ve heard mentioned. Today is the last currently scheduled Lucha Libre USA show – in Corpus Christi, TX – and maybe they’ll have more info after that.

I guess the Perros del Mal column is rotating thru different people. This week, Damian 666 complains about DF commission not giving them the right to do whatever hardcore bit they’d like, and calls CMLL’s Anniversary main event unsurprising. In case you might have forgotten, Perros del Mal is the promotion where every main event ends in a screwjob and aren’t exactly known for delivering surprising finishes. The shows can be entertaining, but I can’t think of a meaningful main event they’ve run in two years; the only reason they skate is because they run so few shows (and the message board types & the magazines cut them a metric ton of slack.)

Though it was set up on Sunday, CMLL’s waited until last night to announce the Averno vs Charly Manson title match for this Sunday. It’s listed as “Campeonato Mundial Historico NWA de Peso Medio.” That can’t be right; if they could have used the NWA name, why do this whole dance? It’s been a pretty lame dance. Like the sprinkler. Assuming you can trust Charly to have a singles title (and only lose it once), I think he might actually win this to build him up. I put no title change out of reach at the moment.

CMLL’s kept the card at five matches. However, instead of pulling the women’s match, they’ve removed the minis match. So, welcome back Star Fire and Estrella Magica? (I think I may recap Fox next week.)

GranTourismo writes about visiting Arena Mexico as a tourist.

Actual quotes from the Hereos del Ring Elegido bio

“Repent, wicked ones, the king El Elegido is near!”, these were some of last words spoken by AAA founder Antonio Pena before he passed to the great lucha  match in the sky. At first, the arrival of El Elegido did cause a something of a frenzy; but it was mostly among the female fans who were enamored with his impressive physical attributes. Before long, discussions of his good looks gave way to observations about his fine abilities in the ring. Soon Pena´s suspicions were confirmed, as El Elegido became the symbol of quality Mexican Lucha Libre.

It’s a good thing this is a blog, because I can laugh for five minutes and then continue typing like nothing’s gone wrong. On the other hand, if this was a podcast, I could do a dramatic reading of this passage. Anyway, they also have a Zorro bio.

AAA’s site notes Extreme Tiger & Relampago teaming up has some interest. Also, they wonder if anyone will just get suspended 90 days to help out the Legion or AAA in the main event. Black Abyss and the Psycho Circus really have nothing to lose.

The Gladiatores writes about Mini Olimpico working on the rudo side on Monday; he seemed to be feuding with Electrico and it may have been a permanent switch. Hopefully Ras de Lona will explain this. Given Pequeno Olimpico’s age (44), there may be a plan for how he’s going to end his career going to wrap up.

Mascara Dorada, four belt champion. Who was his second, who also was wearing a Dorada mask?

SuperLuchas has a post saying the Guadalajara Demon/Santo show was canceled because the luchadors were pulled off the show. That doesn’t really make any sense, because all of those guys were indy guys, and it’s not like there was another big indy show elsewhere they worked instead. Maybe it’s what they told people.

Cesar notes Tiffany debuting on Tuesday and wonders how she’ll be used.

FMLL is bringing in Latin Lover, LA Park and Dr. Wagner Jr. to Pico Rivera on 09/25.

Lineup

DTU (SUN) 09/26 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Ludark Shaiten vs Flamita, Muerte Bucanera, Sexy Lady, Tacuba
2) Zumbi vs Hormiga, Tribal
3) Daga vs Eterno
4) Sexy Star & Tony Rivera vs Chica Tormenta & Tigre Cota
5) Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Mari Apache vs Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II
6) Paranoko vs Aero Boy, Violento Jack, Dance Boy [fans bring the weapons]
7) Silver King vs Crazy Boy

Poster here. Fifth match is my pick for match of the year. Doesn’t matter that it hasn’t happened yet.

I think Tony Rivera is here as a completely random indy person. I have no idea what AAA would do with him.

Silver King is listed here as “M.A.L.O.”, just like the guys on the next DTU show. Is this a DTU thing? Is this an AAA thing they’ve done on TV but have forgotten to mention elsewhere, again?

09/11-12 Lucha Times

box

AAA-US: Verano remainder bin. Relevos AAA, Jack/187 vs Legion/Nosawa, and Perro Aguayo Jr.’s in ring return.

52MX: La Militia (CMLL) & Puma King vs Guerrero Maya, Tigre Blanco and Molotov, which is alone enough to sell me. Main event adds Lyger/ReyBuc/UG vs Valiente/Rush/Toscano. Close.

LATV: if they air a new episodes, this taping week had everything air but the opener. So surely Molotov/Sensei vs Disturbio/Durango (a double Molotov week?!?) and probably a repeat of the minis trios. By the way, I figured out the accidental break during this past week’s show did not overlap between airings, so I might be able to frankenstein together complete versions of both matches. If I can find the time. Edit: so they didn’t air the tercera (I thought they did) so that’ll definitely air. Maybe with a rerun, hopefully without.

GDL: last week’s show still isn’t up on the internet, so who knows. This is supposed to be the Lyger/Mistico week. Guess we’ll see! Edit: that aired, so instead of seeing Lyger vs Mistico, the main event is Atlantis & Mr. Niebla vs Rotoporky & Maximo. I hate you, Teleformula.

CMLL-MEX: Back to Saturday, back to recent footage. Tecnico Bicentenario tournament + Pesta Negra vs Invaders + time for more?

AAA-MEX: Mari vs Sexi for the women’s title, Metal/187 vs FdT/Electro in a street fight, and Ciber/Mesias/Parka vs Hernandez/Perro/Zorro.

CMLL-FOX: Yoshihashi/Cancerbros vs Fabian/AirForce + Invaders vs Hijos de Averno (Olimpico’s first unmasked match.)

C3: Dorada/Negro + rudo Bicentenario tournament

Puebla: they skipped ahead a week; Sombra/Volador is on YouTube already. That brings them back up to a same week turaround, so this show builds up the Dorada/Mistico tag title challenge.

ACM: dunno.

Perros: All that’s left from the expo: the opener + Angel/Hijo de Misterio/Hijo de Park vs Bestia/Warrior/TJP. That’s actually an interesting show.

IWRG-TVC Deportes: They’re back! Sunday, 10pm to midnight. No idea what.

CMLL-TFN: skipping the anniversary show week and evading the Gran Alternativa, that leaves Avernos vs Maximo/Toscano/Volador and Ultimo Guerrero vs Jushin Lyger for the Heavyweight Championship.

—-

AAA-PERU: A triple header of storylines that went nowhere: Ishimori & Morishima challenges 187 for the tag team titles, Cibernetico & the Clowns wrestle in an atomicos, and Pimpinela teams up with the WagnerManiacos. I guess that tag title change did start the Nicho/Lider tecnico turn, but the wrong team came back to drop the belts, CiberClowns are in the same place four months later, and I’ve forgotten they forget the whole Pimpi deal.

CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX #250 (09/04/2010)

Tirantes isn't THAT helpful here

Arena Coliseo, 08/29/2010

Delta, Fuego, Metro vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Pólvora: A better Delta match than the Guadalajara one! That’s not saying much, and this wasn’t much itself. Your usual OK B-show match.

Averno, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Olímpico, Psicosis: This went even less – not much time for the show when they’re building up a cage match which happened the day prior – but it was good for while it lasted and Olimpico seemed as motivated as his partners. They probably should’ve set up more with Averno & Charly before deciding that was the big finale we were all waiting for, but the rest of this feud should be fun.
