Octagon/Fuerza, Friday preview, Perros/AAA, 12 way mask match

IWRG (THU) 06/17 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, Black Terry Jr. (flickr)]
1) Máscara Magnífica b Carta Brava Jr.
2) Comando Negro & Silver Boy b Eterno & Hijo del Signo
3) Bombero Infernal b Dr. Cerebro [super libre]
4) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco b Suicida, Trauma I, Trauma II [EdM Trios]
5) Gato Eveready, Octagón, Pimpinela Escarlata b Cerebro Negro, Fuerza Guerrera, Veneno

You’ll never believe this, but Fuerza Guerrera tied Octagon’s mask to the ropes! Octagon’s mask came off in the process, and Fuerza covered him for the win. Team AAA rallied to win fall two, and Fuerza punted Octagon in the third, getting away with it for the fall.

Traumas kept the first fall on the mat to take it. Gringos rallied with teamwork to even it up. In the third, Trauma I submitted Avisman, Gringo Loco defeated Trauma I, Trauma II took out Gringo Loco with a dive. That left Suicida and Diablo, and Diablo won clean to retain the title.

Bombero snuck in a foul, and Dr. Cerebro wants a hair match. Comando Negro replaced Silver Boy, out due to injury last week.

Arena Mexico previews

  • Ovaciones, which mentions Yoshihashi is to be in Mexico for three months. 21 of the 24 page Ovaciones is on the World Cup; I’m surprised it was 24 of 24. This preview says this is Poder Mexica’s second shot at the belt, which alerted me that we must’ve forgotten to put up the April title defense on the luchawiki.
  • ESTO, who frames the main event as Lyger wanting revenge for losing on his way out last time
  • Sangre Azteca says his team will win the belts and bring them to France, where Sangre Azteca is headed in a few days.

Dorada’s a part of the other trios belts, so it seems odd for him to still have this one, and it’s really time for Poder Mexica to win. I think a tecnico team defending against the likes of the Cancerberos and Tuaregs would make some sense, but I can’t see them doing it with this tecnico trio.

The Gladiatores has a text interview with Lyger (talks about Japan beating Mexico in 1968 Olympics & vacation plans), and video interviews with Mistico & Mr. Niebla (who’s not interested in teaming up with his old Vipers friends.)

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and video of Los Brazos vs Blue Blazer, Gran Hamada and Dos Caras.

Lineup

AAA PdM (MON) 06/21 Arena Cuatro Caminos de Nuevo Laredo
1) Mini Hombre Sin Miedo & Mini Sobredosis vs Coquito Amarillo & Mini Rio Bravo
2) Ángel Dorado, El Brazo, Street Boy vs Black Mamba, Drako, Pit Bull
3) Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Relampago vs Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II
4) Antifaz del Norte, Damián 666, Halloween vs Electroshock, Silver King, Último Gladiador

Perros del Mal start doing matches on AAA shows as soon as Monday.- Damian 666, Halloween, and Anitfaz oppose Los Maniacos in the main event at Arena Cuatro Caminos. Antifaz is very random; he hasn’t been seen much lately, and he’s usually with the Psicosis group of ex-AAA guys. I would guess this was a replacement for someone else (and Perro Jr. charges way too much.)

CMLL Gutierrez (MON) 07/12 Plaza de Toros Lauro Luis Longoria
1) ?, Rossy Moreno, Sexy Flor vs Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela
2) Mini Alebrije, Mini Cibernetico, Mini Oriental vs ?, ??, Mascarita Dorada
3) El Hijo del Solitario, Hijo de LA Park, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Valiente
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Juventud Guerrera, Mr. Águila
5) Héctor Garza, Terrible, Texano vs Jushin Lyger, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
6) Atlantis & Olímpico vs Averno & Último Guerrero and Místico & Oriental and El Alebrije & Volador Jr. and Histeria & La Sombra [ruleta de la muerte]

Poster from RFC, and show is supposed to be taped for TV (no network named.) Box Y Lucha notes Rossy Moreno is unaware she’s on this show, so this may not be totally legit.

Main event is a five way tag, with the losing team facing off in a mask vs mask match. The same promoter has been running these CMLL vs Invasor shows in Nuevo Laredo for a while, and they’re pushing the Oriental/Mistico feud. If they do the match as listed, never a sure thing, Olimpico, Oriental and Histeria are the suspects. I’d bet Hijo de LA Park doesn’t end up working this show. Poster pictures Yoshihashi as Taichi (and previously listed Taichi as Naito, so they’re always slightly behind.)

AAA Heroes en el Ring @ E3, Thursday

Last day

* Doctor Wagner Junior is the cover luchador for AAA Heroes en el Ring, pinning Fake Silver King in what turned out to be a four way with Elegido & La Parka Jr. I’m sure he won’t let this win go to his head. Slang hasn’t posted the cover yet, but I’m sure we’ll see in rather soon. I’m still surprised a wrestler more representative of the history of AAA like La Parka didn’t win (not to mention the people who would just assume it was the WCW guy and be more interested.) Wagner is still a fine pick. He’s an archetypal luchador, the sort of guy who’d be pictured next to “luchador” in a dictionary, if they still had dictionaries with pictures in them.

Wagner’s new feud with Vampiro makes a lot of sense now. Being on the cover of the AAA video game is clearly going to be a bad omen, like the Madden Curse.

Based on who was in Las Vegas and would fit the gear, I’m guessing Fake Silver King was Psycho Clown.

* Thunderbolt Games preview

I’m not so crazy about what I played of the game, either. It felt like a sub-par wrestling game with a lot of enthusiasm and style, but nothing about the in-game action really set it apart. At the very least, Héroes del Ring offers up something unique, and its emphasis on the culture behind the sport is what really makes it stand out.

There will more previews/reviews as we get closer to the release.

CMLL Guerreros del Ring on 52MX #237 (06/05/2010)

Arena Coliseo, 05/30/2010

Rush vs Pólvora, Sagrado, Nosferatu, Delta, Skándalo, Metro, Arkangel de la Muerte, Fuego, Dr. X, Hooligan, Rey Cometa in a cibernetico match and part 2: I tend to like ciberneticos more than most, so maybe you need to adjust your opinion, but I thought this was good. There was an iffy stretch in the middle, Nosferatu being the second to longest lasting rudo was strange and I’m still confused about the finish but there were plenty of fun stuff and they deviated from the pattern enough to make it surprising.

Arkangel was a secret amusing MVP of the match, both for his early wackiness and then for doing a set of near double pin spots to lead up the double pin spot. It’s the inescapable finish at that point, might as well play around with it.

Sagrado did a fine job of getting Delta to stay down and not jump back in the match. If his brain was scrambled enough to think that move was a good idea before he hit the ground, who knows what he would’ve tried later.

Rey Cometa is really good and we should be agitating for better spots for him.
