CMLL Guerreros del Ring on CAN52 #217 (01/16/2010)

taped 01/10/10 @ Arena Coliseo

Fabián el Gitano ©, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Bronco, Puma King, Tiger Kid © – Nice to see this rudo trio in a match with actual time. The Puma/Tiger move needs a name ASAP. Apparently, in the Nueva Era, you no longer have to cover anyone to get a pin!

Astro Boy, Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado © vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Naito ©, Sangre Azteca – now it’s clear why Naito is back: it’s recces! At least he’s amusing, and putting everyone over.

That’s video #519 over on DailyMotion. Since people seem to be having issues with viewing them due to ads, I’m thinking about moving again. The problem is I can only think of YouTube to go to, and I’d have to start splitting every video in half (and figuring out where to put the break point, which is more of a pain.) I’m not having these problems myself, which is probably a lot to do with using the FireFox AdBlock Plus extension, but I’m not doing these videos for me.

This ends the recap run. I’ve got stuff I could watch – I always have stuff I could watch. I believe there’s at least two Lucha Libre Premier episodes, one or two Cadena Tres shows, some TDN matches, and a CMLL Puebla show sitting on my TiVo to watch. Not sure what I’ll do next. (Play the NHL ’10 game I picked up over the weekend? Hmmmm.)

Puebla, Valiente, Taichi

CMLL (MON) 01/18 Arena Puebla [R de Rudo]
1) Mr. Rafaga & Policeman b Asturiano & SWAT
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia
3) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Sagrado b Nitro, Nosferatu, Shigeo Okumura
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Vangelis
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr.

Felino & Niebla fouled Somnbra & Volador and got away with it for the win. Tecnicos demanded a super libre match. Seems like a tag team title match coming up here.

Vangelis replaced Misterioso II in the semimain, where Mascara got Sangre with the campana. Ultimo Dragoncito replaced Tzuki in the minis match.

Ovaciones and ESTO both preview tonight’s CMLL card. There’s no particular story going into this one, though maybe it should be Garza continuing his win streak heading into Friday.

Fuego en el Ring talks to Valiente, who’s now the only Valiente. Hijo de Valiente and Valiente Jr. (“children of a friend”) had talked about using the name, but never actually got permission. After CMLL pointed it out, Valiente asked them to stop. They also have interviews with Rambo, La Comadante (who figures she got a promotion in Pierroth’s army, causing the name change) and Okumura. Okumura says he and Naito have been brainstorming ideas for Taichi. Judging from Naito on this weekends 52MX show, Taichi should definitely be concerned. NJPW officially announced Taichi, was headed to CMLL for an excursion. No word on exactly how long he’s meant to be in CMLL for, but it should be a while.

Record, LuchandoLibre, ESTO and R de Rudos have reports on the Perros show.

There’s lots of photos of this weekend’s Tijuana show over on flickr.

A new lucha libre commissioner was sworn in, in Juarez.

Blue Demon Jr. will be appearing on ROH’s Charlotte show. Kind of a surprise, because he was not that popular last time ROH used him, but they wanted a lucha name to help draw latinos.

Box Y Lucha #2957 hypes more Konnan vs Cibernetico. Or maybe they’re it’s just meant as a warning.

Cronicas y Leyendas writes about Rey Misterio & Juvi in Japan, Cien Caras vs Salomon Grundy (slightly different matches), plus Pirata Morgan taking Masakre’s hair, and Solitario taking Atila’s mask.

Segunda Caida writes about IWRG 11/26/09 and KrisZ’s news update

CMLL on Fox Sports #174 (12/05/2009)

taped Arena Coliseo, 11/29/2009

Euforia, Pólvora, Virus © vs Ángel de Oro, Fabián el Gitano, Rouge © – THREE FALLS UNDER FOUR MINUTES. (On the other hand, Fabian & Rouge, maybe that was for the best.) Cancerberos are cool, hooray for that. I need to track down the Arena Coliseo title match.

Blue Panther, Místico ©, Volador Jr. vs Averno ©, Ephesto, Mephisto – exactly the match you think you’re going to get with these six guys. Actually, maybe a little better than considering it’s an MVS match in Arena Coliseo. The one other extra was Mistico implying Mephisto’s new physique came via injection; does that mean I was totally in the right for bringing up the same thing around the bodybuilding contest? It’s pretty hard to believe we’re supposed to ignore that subject when the top hero in the company is pointing it out. (Also, it was hilarious.)

CMLL on Fox Sports #172 (11/21/2009)

taped Arena Mexico, 11/15/2009

Bracito de Oro, Pequeño Olímpico ©, Shockercito vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia © – sure seems like there was some sort of mandate to cut these openers down to a minimum amount of time. They’ve never been long, but they’re super abbreviated in this stretch, and things are clearly going longer on the recent shows. Anyway, this match has 3 guys who are good, 1 guy who I’ve not yet decided on (Nitro) and 2 guys who appear to be here just to make up the numbers (Bracito and Universo.) This would’ve been an interesting tag team match.

Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Shocker © vs Felino, Negro Casas ©, Ray Mendoza Jr. – thought this was going to be bad (the first fall backed that up), turned out to be just OK, I’ll take that as a victory. It is nice that, instead of continuing to repeat the same Garza shirt tossing, everyone’s making fun of it now. Garza got pinned on Friday while stripping up his shirt, so maybe it’s going away.

AAA on Televisa #921 (01/16)

first in a set of two best of and one TripleMania, apparently. I’m kinda okay with only having to spend 20 minutes on this show until sometime after the Super Bowl.

It seemed as if they were just going to sanely air the clips in order, but then they started to bounce all over the place. I have no idea why they’d show a finish from the Chilpancigo taping; there’s plenty of other Psycho Circus wins from 2009 to show, maybe you don’t want to give away the finish of a show three weeks from now? Profoundly weird.

Mexico, Perros, IWRG, Sexi on Fabi’s hair cut

CMLL (SUN) 01/17 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones (PDF), ESTO]
1) Principe & Trueno b Cholo & Disturbio
2) Delta, Leono, Metatrón DQ Apocalipsis, Durango Kid, Inquisidor
3) Ángel de Oro, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max
4) Averno, Mephisto, Negro Casas b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Garza pinned Ultimo Guerrero again, to set up Friday’s title match. Averno & Mephisto replaced Felino & Naito, and ESTO and Ovaciones actually differ on the result. No word on the DQ in the segunda.

Perros (SUN) 01/17 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Skayde Jr. b Carta Brava Jr.
2) Cósmico b Mini Talisman
3) Rey Krimen, Sepulturero I, Terry 2000 b Iron Love, Robin Maravilla, Sadico
4) Celestial & Turbo b Black Thunder & Mr. Aguilita
5) Veneno & X-Fly b el Ángel & Nova
6) Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween b Charly Manson, Groon XXX, Oriental

X-Fly was all over the top two matches, pulling Nova’s mask before pinning him, and costing Charly the main event. Skayde Jr.’s gear looks neat.

IWRG (SUN) 01/17 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Keshin Black b Ángel de la Noche
2) Dinamic Black & Guizmo b Comando Negro & Guerrero 2000
3) Chico Che, Eragon, Ultramán Jr. b Alan Extreme, Hijo del Signo, Trauma II
4) El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco b Black Terry & Dr. Cerebro
5) Negro Navarro & Trauma I b Canek & el Hijo del Canek and Hijo del Pantera & Pantera and Olímpico & Suicida [IWRG IC TAG, semifinal]

Suicida is not Olimpico’s son (that would be odd), but Exodia was hurt. Negro got Canek in the end, with some help from Trauma I.

None of the undercard matches the poster they had for this show. Oh well. Semimain was a bloody war, Diablo fouling Dr. Cerebro for the win.

Ovaciones also has a Sexi Star interview, where she accuses Fabi Apache of not actually shaving her head. Perish the thought. Astounding they’d bring that up, unless they figure everyone knows – nah – or they were going to do something about it – also nah. Probably just Sexi Star being Sexi Star. Sexi Star notes Fabi brags about training and wrestling in Japan, which proves Sexi Star is the true Mexican hero and Fabi is just a lowly poor Indian.

This month’s Record has a fan vote of the top 100 masks ever, and Dos Caras was voted #1. It’s a fine mask, but I would not have gone that way. Inside, there’s an interview with Lluvia, hanging out an internet cafe, which predictably moves her up.

Latin Lover is in talks to join a Televisa telenovela, but is not sure he wants to work six days a week.

Cibernetico appears on Te Das or Te Rindes on Tuesday.

Camaleon de Oro kept his mask over King Azteca in Tijuana on Saturday.
