AAA #915 (12/06)

taped Auditorio Miguel Barragan, 11/18/2009

Questions of the Week: why did they do the bit where Konnan paid off Hermandad on this show if Cibernetico was getting beat up on the next show? And why did Nicho & Lider come out for the fake save next week – they already showed us they were with the Legion, all it did was give Cibernetico a break.

Did the Cibernetico/Konnan arguement for the press get covered by the press? Clearly the idea was the feud to go mainstream; didn’t seem like I was reading much about it, but that doesn’t mean much. The people who they wanted to talk about it aren’t usually the people I listen to, so I have no fair way to judge.

Pasion Kristal, Polvo de Esterllas, Yuriko vs Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Súper Fly – Rudo Exoticos are less interesting than Poder el Norte, but it’s not like this was a great Air Force performance too.

Alex Koslov & Ozz vs El Elegido & Rocky Romero – THIS was much more enjoyable than last week. As usual, I’m pro-mixing up the matchups and letting wackiness ensue, and this was match was all that (down to Elegido doing the stop sign.)

Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King vs Chessman, Teddy Hart, Zorro – amazing how squash like these matches have been. And often way too long if that’s all they’re gong to do.

El Mesías, La Parka Jr., Marco Corleone vs Cibernético, Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario – maybe the payoff was to get Lider & Nicho to disappear for the final angle here? Though it backfired on the Legion (after the show ended for me), so maybe not so much.

AAA creative change, lineups

Not much going on and I’m a little busy

And since I keep forgetting to post them:

Complete story from the Observer

It looks like they are getting rid of the scriptwriters with the ratings falling.

Like I said on twitter, never could tell they were there.

DJ Spectro picks his wrestler of the year.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Some lineups.

I know this is a day late, and I’m sorry I did not get a chance to let you know earlier. You could’ve gone to a show and seen such hair matches as LEONO vs OKUMURA or SUPER BRAZO vs VANGELIS.

5) Máximo & Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla & Negro Casas

Quite a main event. Euforia continues to team with Nosferatu, which must be awkward.

As Rob noted, there’s been no change to Sunday’s Arena Coliseo card. Maybe not Felino/Dorado after all?

01/02-03 Lucha Times

box.

Some notes:

  • not sure what aired on CMLL last week
  • as far as I can tell, the AAA Lucha Libre Premier show is no longer airing. Fox Sports Latin American still hasn’t put up their schedule grids, but it’s not on Televisa’s (painful, horrible) grid of all channels. If this show is still on, it would be nice for AAA to post a reminder, hint hint.
  • I’m dumping the Lucha Mania tapings from the grid, though I may still track them if I have the time. It’s near impossible to predict and no one cares.
  • Posts will be slow here for the next two days. But there’s nothing going on anyway.

AAA-US: part one of Guerra de Titanes – minis, Sexi/Fabi, Wagners/AAA and Konnan/Cibernetico. Though the lead up show to this wasn’t particularly strong (and I would’ve been even more certain of Latin/Wagner if I had seen it before GdT, so what do I know.)

52MX: Cancerberos vs ACChamps/Sagrado, Mistico/Dorada/Rey de 52MX vs Felino/Terrible/Texano

IWRG-TF: going back to the skip week, so more Angelico/Trauma II for your dollar (and also sadly more Canek/Pirata)

—-

CMLL-MEX: Normal two hour slot, so top 3 from the anniversary show – Mascara/Sombra/Volador vs Triad, Liger/No Limit/Okumura vs Atlantis/Warrior(!)/Garza/UG and Mistico vs Negro Casas. Please please rip this show and post it to YouTube.

AAA: Best of? Maybe? I guess so

C3: Presumably, the usual Thursday show, with the Mex Trios tournament and the Mascara/Stuka/Volador vs Averno/Mephisto/Terrible main event.

Puebla: Guerreros/Sangre vs Mascara/Mistico/Shocker

Motnerrey: top 3 from Sunday, I guess. They may be in Best of too.

IWRG, Wagner 3, Mexico Trios, GDL, USA Today

IWRG (FRI) 12/25 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Keshin Black b Dinamic Black
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II b Hijo del Signo & Vampiro Metálico
3) Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Negro, Arlequin Rojo DQ Alan Extreme, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco b Angelico, Bushi, Ultramán Jr.
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro [IWRG IC TRIOS]

One ref got KOed, the other ref went to check on him, and missed Black Terry giving 911 two backcrackers and covering. Black Terry went to get the live ref, and ended up getting backcrackered by 911 for the win.

After Bushi got pinned in the semimain (by Avisman, with his feet on the ropes), both Avisman and Gringo Loco asked for a title match.

The Gladiatores also has a recap for the 12/27 IWRG show, which included Exodia challenging Gringo Loco to a mask vs hair match (UH OH. DON’T DO IT!)

indy (FRI) 12/25 Arena Azteca Budokan [The Gladiatores]
1) Elemento & Muerte Bucanero b Elemento & Principe Zarac
2) Dr. Jenquils & Skayderman b Brozo & Corcel de Plata
3) Silver Cat I & Silver Cat II b Skullman & Sobre Dosis
4) Mascarita de Oro, Mini Oriental, Sexi Ruby b Espectrito I, Mini Apache, Mini Cibernetico
5) Diosa de Oro, La Chola, La Valentina, Rossy Moreno b Afrodita, Flor Metalica, Sexy Boy, Shina
6) Charly Manson, Dr. Wagner III, Groon XXX, X-Fly b Halloween, Histeria, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Oriental

Dr. Wagner III got pinned by Halloween’s spear in his first fall. Welcome to wrestling. He pinned Oriental as Groon beat Mascara Año for the win.

CMLL (TUE) 12/29 Arena Mexico [Cesar]
1) Disturbio & Inquisidor b Apolo Estrada Jr. & Astro Boy
2) Amapola, La Seductora, Zeuxis b Dalis la Caribeña, Lluvia, Marcela
3) Delta, Leono, Valiente b Diamante, Pegasso, Rey Cometa [MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal]
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Fabián el Gitano, Máximo, Rouge [MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal]
5) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Delta, Leono, Valiente [MEX TRIOS, semifinal]
6) La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

The expected result from the tournament. Poder Mexica will be the strong favorites against Máscara Dorada, Metro, and Stuka Jr. next Wednesday.

Terrible replaced Ephesto, who’s missing shows all over the place this week. Injury? Marcela replaced Estrella Magica. Apolo Estrada, Delta and Maximo were hurt in their matches.

CMLL (TUE) 12/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Angelo & Idolo b In Memoria & Skaxy
2) Acertijo & León Blanco b Hierro & Metatrón
3) Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro b Máscara Mágica & Ráfaga
4) Neutrón & Stuka Jr. b Shigeo Okumura & Vangelis
5) Mr. Niebla & Último Guerrero b Místico & Toscano

Niebla fouled Mistico and pinned him for the win. That’s happening a lot to Mistico this week.

The big article of the day is USA Today talking about WWE hurting lucha libre in Mexico. For people already following this story, there’s not a lot new, but there’s some interesting specifics

– Joaquin Roldan is quoted as saying live attendance is down “as much as” 30%, but blames the recession
– An Arena Mexico t-shirt vendor says WWE merchandise has gonef rom 2-3% of his sales in 2004 to 30% of his sales today.

Salomon Durate of Box Y Lucha blames too much TV, which definitely affects things (and probably more so lucha libre, since WWE live shows are still special occasions.) The recession is a factor too, but WWE has to deal with those same problems in Mexico, and they’re way out ahead on ratings. There’s deeper problems with the presentation and the creativity. (And there’s the difference of WWE promoting everything around their TV, while TV is off to the side for the other two main lucha groups.)

Fuego en el Ring talks to Enrique Vera about his career.

Cesar talks about the new stretchy CMLL action figures. The four wrestlers: Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Mistico and Dr. Wagner Jr. Huh.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at Mil Mascaras beating the Killer in 1991 and Blue Panther vs Satanico, the same year but a much different match.

Bucanero/Mistico, Silver King, Mistico/Negro, Fabi/Sexi

CMLL (MON) 12/28 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Black Tiger & Centella de Oro b Mr. Rafaga & Sauron
2) Delta, Molotov, Trueno b Disturbio, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata DQ Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Euforia, Shigeo Okumura
5) Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero b La Máscara, Místico, Shocker

Bucanero fouled Mistico, pinned him, and demanded a title shot. He’s sure not wasting time.

Mascara Dorada replaced Sagrado. DQ in tercera was Loco Max pulling Angel Azteca Jr.’s mask. Disturbio replaced Apocalispis.

AAA (MON) 12/28 Centro de Convinencias, Tapachula, Chiapas [El Orbe]
1) Chessman, Dinastia Surena, Silver King b Gallo Sureno II, Gallo Sureno Jr., La Parka Jr.

Before the main event, the local Box Y Lucha commission stopped the show, saying Silver King was banned from wrestling that night because he was wearing the mask he lost. If there was an option of Silver King just unmasking, as has been in the case in DF, it was not mentioned in the article. La Parka & Chessman rallied the crowd (500 people) against the commission, saying these sort of actions are why AAA never comes to this town. They ended up just agreeing to pay a fine.

Today’s Arena Mexico show is the second part of the Mexican Trios Title Tournament. Poder Mexica is the heavy favorite.

CMLL’s Twitter says Mistico vs Negro Casas will air this weekend, a special broadcast on the normal broadcast. There does not appear to be an added broadcast on Televisa or Cadena3, so the matches this Friday will probably not air.

Catching up on things I post on Twitter but forget about here:

Last Week’s Wrestling Observer gave some background to the Fabi Apache/Sexi Star match from Guerra de Titanes. Fabi Apache was scheduled to win the match, but Dorian Roldan is credited as changing the decision the day of the show. Fabi was very upset – apparently, she’s not a fan of Sexi Star, and she surely thought she was winning this – and the short haircut was a compromises. If only Charly Manson knew such compromises were possible, he wouldn’t be feuding with X-Fly right now.

The other interesting tidbit is Mesias’ contract comes up in April. It’s thought he will resign, and the issue is about how long (he wants only 1 year, AAA wants 3 years.)

Matametico talks about his career with Record. Matametico credits Matametico with revolutionizing the high flying style. His wife worked in a circus, and he started working as a trapeze artist to perfect his high flying moves.

Fuego en el Ring interviews Averno (he and UG will be gone from the 1st to the 5th) and Rey Bucanero, who has lots of plans for 2010, both in and out of the ring (and gives out his email address for more info.)

Cesar notes, for all the talk about A New CMLL Era, the wrestlers scheduled for the first two shows of the new year are quite young, for CMLL.

DJ Spectro has it’s 2009 Biggest Absence, Refreee of the Year, Foreigner of the Year and Novato of the Year (for reasons beyond his hair style – maybe!) Also, the site closing yesterday was a joke I totally fell for. And I thought I was doing so good…

ESTO looks back at CMLL’s 2009.

Dr. Lucha and Stan The Embryo look back at

Ras de Lona #78 is part 1 of a 3 part look back at 2009.

Ohtani’s Jacket talks about the Felino/Santo rematch from ’97.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update

Dorada/Felino, Naucalpan, Dia de Inocentes

CMLL (SUN) 12/27 Arena Mexico [CMLL]
1) Astro Boy, Bengala, Freesbe (IWRG) DQ Artillero, Disturbio, Súper Comando
2) Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro b Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Leono
3) Euforia, Pólvora, Virus b Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.
4) Shocker b Mr. Niebla
5) Máscara Dorada, Místico, Toscano DQ Felino, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Main event came down to Felino and Dorada, and Felino fouled Dorada. They’ll have a singles match (non-title) next week.

Edit: La Comadante was hanging out with Terrible & Texano again, and apparently this is going to be a permanent thing. It makes no more sense to me than it did on 12/04, but maybe they’ll explain it now.

Mr. Niebla was going for La Nieblina, but Shocker cradled him for the pin. Mr. Niebla still wants that mask vs hair match, but I would bet zero dollars and zero cents on that.

Dr. X replaced Bronco. Super Comando yanked Astro Boy’s mask for the DQ.

IWRG (SUN) 12/27 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (photos)]
1) Ángel de la Noche b Keshin Black
2) Dinamic Black & Imperial b Alan Extreme & Hijo del Signo
3) Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Negro, Arlequin Rojo b Diva Salvaje, Jack, Miss Gaviota
4) Gringo Loco, Maldito Jr., Samoth b Eragon, Exodia, Freelance
5) Angelico, Suicida, Zatura DQ Trauma I, Trauma II, Veneno

Not taped for TV. Veneno gave Angelico a martinete in the main event. That seems like a hair match to come. Semimain is up on YouTube (fall 1, fall 2, fall 3)

Dia De Inocentes joke stories: Hijo del Santo vs Blue Demon Jr. agree to a mask match at SuperLuchas, Box Y Lucha 2954’s entire cover, half the threads on Box Y Lucha. Basically, if you read something that surprises you today, that was probably the idea. The Universal Studios is throwing Hulk Hogan a parade should be a comedy post, but actually is real.

Estrellas del Ring looks back at 2009 in Monterrey. Ought to make a round up of all these posts at some point.

Cronicas Y Leyendas looks back at Muto vs Canek in 1987.

Ohtani’s Jacket and Raging Noodles pick their 2009 Lucha Awards. Which reminds me, when I post this week’s IWRG, I need to warn everyone just to turn the show off after the first fall of the first match.
