CMLL 52MX #183 (05/16/09)

taped 05/10

Links are to theCatchChannel on YouTube. Thanks for uploading the matches!

Mini Warrior, Mini Damian 666 ©, Mini Violencia vs Mascarita Dorada ©, Shockercito, Bam Bam – the depth isn’t there since Halloween and Aguilita left town, but the top mini rudos are still really great. Damian/Shockercito should be a lot of fun.

Averno ©, Texano Jr., Heavy Metal vs Hijo del Fantasma ©, Valiente, Metro – Classic Heavy Metal mail in. I hope Heavy’s music store and other enterprises succeed to a great degree, so he won’t have any need to wrestle any more. The desire sure seemed long gone on this night.

this might be the first time I’ve closely watched this Metro, and he seems OK, though they’re not showing us a lot of him here.

Fantasma is really energetic; he’s much better at seeming interested in the match when he’s waiting for his spot (rather than the distracted from other stuff/focused on waiting for their moment stuff most seem to fall in to.) Still, it was nice to see Averno actually win a match cleanly.

Mephisto dethrones Sombra, Konnan conquers Sinola, IWRG results

CMLL (WED) 05/27 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [CMLL, chorino69 @ box y lucha]
4) Mephisto b La Sombra [NWA WELTER]

Raise your hand if you saw that one coming. (No one should have their arm up.) I blame Sensei. Someone must’ve decided they needed to have a memorable return in Acapulco. This is the first world title change in Acapulco since Atlantis & Lizmark beat Gran Markus Jr. & Hijo del Gladiador for the tag team belts in 1996, and there were long stretches of weekly shows since that time.

Sombra held the Welterweight for a year an a half, and this was Mephisto’s third shot at it. Mephisto would seem to be about 25 pounds too heavy for the Welterweight division, if such things still mattered. The larger member of the Averno/Mephisto tag team is champion in the smaller division.

It’s the second title switch in two days, and the two in tandem mean all members of Hijos del Averno are carrying a belt

Averno: NWA Middle, CMLL Middle
Mephisto: NWA Welter
Ephesto: CMLL Light Heavy
Texano: NWA Light Heavy, Occidente Tag
Terrible: Occidente Tag
Misterioso: Occidente LH – if he’s still meant to be in this group

Sombra still makes sense for the upcoming champs tournament, because he’s still tag team champion. Mephisto winning the belt means it should be a 15 man tournament – really 16 man with Mistico being involved. We’ll see.

There’s no full results from this show, as far as I’ve seen, but kkarmma @ box y lucha says the building was 70% full.

IWRG (THU) 05/21 Arena Naucalpan [the Gladiatores]
1) Comando Gama b Daga
2) Eterno & Galactik b Mixteco Jr. & Vampiro Metalico
3) Diva Salvaje, Freelance, Miss Gaviota b Avisman, Carta Brava Jr., Xibalva
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro DQ Capitán Muerte, Durango Kid, Negro Navarro
5) Trauma I, Trauma II, Zatura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Traumas defeated Oficial 911 for the deciding fall, which sets up a trios title match. Black Terry faked a foul for the semifinal DQ.

WRG (SUN) 05/24 Arena Naucalpan [the Gladiatores]
1) Eterno b Comando Negro
2) Avisman & Comando Gama b Galactik & Goleador
3) Azoka, Fantasma de la Opera, Tetsuya Bushi b Gemelo Fantastico II, Jack, Mike Segura
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Freelance, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Fuerza Guerrera, Juventud Guerrera, Veneno DQ Angelico, Scorpio Jr., Zatura

Terrible Cerebros won the semimian (Trauma II took a big powerbomb and was helped to the back), then got involved after the main event. That finish was Scorpio pulled Fuerza’s mask, Fuerza fouling Scorpio, the ref turning around to see both of them down, and giving it to rudos. Black Terry & company ran out to attack Fuerza, Juvi and Veneno after the match, which turned out ot be a long brawl.

Suicida returned (at least as Suicida) to fill in for Gemelo I.

AAA (TUE) 05/26 Cancha German Evers [noroeste]
1) Linterna Verde, Mario Mora, Misterio Negro vs Shyru Dragon, Spartan, Terremoto King
2) Nicho el Millionario b Joe Lider, Cuervo, Black Abyss, Extreme Tiger, Gato Eveready, Relampago, Kempo Dragon [torneo Abismo Negro]
3) Chessman, Konnan, Silver King b La Parka Jr., Marco Corleone, Silver King

Nicho win the tournament with help from Lider, then both ran interference in the main event to help set up a Konnan foul on Parka. Since Konnan’s team won, he gets to run the next show here, on July 1st.

CMLL (TUE) 05/26 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
7) Blue Panther, Mictlan, Shocker b Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Shocker & Mictlan got Terrible and Texano in the final fall, and all four agreed to…

CMLL (TUE) 06/02 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar vs Milenio
2) Hierro vs Angel del Mal
3) Metatron vs Infierno
4) Ceusis & Lluvia vs La Seductora & Magnifica
5) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Princesa Blanca
6) Terrible & Texano Jr. vs Mictlan & Shocker [OCCIDENTE TAG]

Ceusis is debuting, and doesn’t appear to be actual word. Typo?

AAA notes they did a tournament of champions back in 1996, says Guapito’s promotion is on the rise, wonders if we’ll get Fabi/Sexy in an mask/hair match at TripleMania (nah, but eventually) and says the Psycho Circus will be on TripleMania, though the lineup they just put up for TripleMania does not include them. Or anything besides the cage match and the title matches.

Box Y Lucha has it usual ton of articles at once.
– In one interview, Konnan rips LA Park (lying about not wanting to come to AAA), Juvi (being Juvi), Mistico (in decline), Damian 666 (has no real TV, going back to CMLL in a year or less), and Perro Jr. (can’t claim I’m insignificant when I’ve been a big star in other places, unlike Perro.) The thing I want to know, just because I like to ask stupid questions, is if Konnan’s claim about making more money than any Mexican wrestler in the last ten years is true, how come he had to solicit donations to pay his medical bills? (Maybe it’s not how much money you make, but how much you still have at the end of the day.)
Sombra talks about being born into the wrestling business. He started training in wrestling when he was six, and debuted at thirteen – with many of the fans making fun of how skinny he was.
Arkangel’s film is being shown as the Cannes Film Festival. I knew Arkangel was playing Tequila Joe, but didn’t realize that was also the name of the movie. His big nemesis in the movie? Escargot Man. Wish I could find anything about this film outside Arkangel interviews.
Goya, daugther of Super Porky talks about her short career so far. Porky made her get a career before he’d let her wrestle, so she studied graphic design and dress making.
Principe Valiente Jr. talks about his debut.
– Indy wrestlers Black Sky & Demoledor talk about working for Martha Villalobos’ Rey del Ring promotion. These two are training under Fire right now.
– Villano III talks about contemporary Genio Negro.
a luchador chess set!. Santo & Demon are the kings, of course. A mother taking her child to wrestling is the queen. Huracan Ramirez is the bishop, The knight is Cavernario Galindo, and the rook is Mil Mascaras. The pawns are anonymous wrestlers just unmasked, which sounds perfect.
– Fact sheets on Angel Blanco and Ray Mendoza.

Volador Jr. talks to Reforma about trying to live up to what his father did wth the name.

Mascara Dorada talks to Ovaciones about being in the Champions tournament. I think this is the first time it’s acknowledged that he’s the former Metalik (and Plata II.) I did not know Mascara Dorada is another reused name; the article says Vicente Ramirez used the name in the 30s and 40s.

Medussa is a new mom.

LuchaWorld has Robert on AAA 02/15/08 and KrisZ’s news update.

CMLL #924 (05/16)

taped 05/15.

I’ve been working on TV listings lately, and it’s completely apparent how those show numbers are so hilariously off. They’re also still the best I’ve got.

I got this show via download and don’t have DM links for it. But you can easily track it down on YouTube; it’s just not easily broken down into matches for me to link to.

Amapola vs Marcela – about as good a lightning match you’re going to get, because they were all about working the clock as a countdown timer and working in as much as they could before it hit zero. The only nitpicky bit was Amapola has been snapping off her finisher a lot cleaner and quicker than she got it here, and so this finish was missing some of the impact of other recent ones. But it was really good, and it made me wonder why I haven’t recapped Marcela/Rosa yet. (It’s in the pipeline now.)

La Mascara, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr. – an okay exhibition to set up the angle. Which was funny, because as much as they tried to make it seem like an unplanned incident, everyone around was reacting to it like a typical fight.

Dos Caras Jr. ©, Mephisto, Averno vs Shocker, Mistico ©, Blue Panther – Hector Garza is the smartest man in the world for extracting himself from this Dos Caras feud. And it’s going to be a legitimate shame if Shocker’s first hair loss comes to Dos Jr. Dos as a rudo has essentially become a more reliable but less interesting rudo Lizmark Jr.. Someone’s got do something to fix this, right?
