AAA #882 (04/18)

AAA #882 (04/18), taped 03/15

Zorro ©, Teddy Hart, Jack Evans vs Alex Koslov, X-Pac, Charly Manson © – this feels like the blow off to X-Pac/Zorro, so…Charly beats Zorro?
Konnan vs Vampiro – you know how to make a run-in spot effective? Have the match end after it. AAA seems to prefer to have the run in lead into something else, which leads into something else, which eventually leads into the finish.

If I was a stickler for logic, I’d be sure to have a reason established for why X-Pac suddenly has the power to count falls. And maybe also find him a referee shirt. That’s jsut me.

Silver King vs Electroshock vs La Parka Jr. vs Latin Lover in the final of the Rey de Reyes – as I was watching the match, I was frustrated with all the dancing they were doing to avoid Electro and Latin Lover actually wrestle. Why not give them a chance? And then they started blowing moves and never mind.

Roldan: We hope to sign Wagner to an exclusive contract this week

This ping pong ball of a story is batted back the other way today: Joaquin Roldan says they’re just a couple of details to settle before signing an exclusive deal with Wagner. Of course, that detail seems to be the whole ‘exclusive’ part. If not this week, the goal is to get it done by TripleMania (and it’s unclear if there’s any contractually binding Wagner to work TripleMania at this point.)

Roldan explains the conflict as Wagner wanting the ability to work shows he had been booked for, but were pushed back due to the swine flu. This conflicts with what Wagner says in SuperLuchas this past week; he clearly wanted to keep working independents on occasional while with AAA, not just make up some dates.

It’s confusing why AAA insists on working this process in public. They don’t appear to gain anything from announcing the deal is almost but not quite done. They even stand to hurt the deal; if it was kept quiet that Wagner was barred from working independence shows, it’d be a lot easier for him to keep consistent with the stances he’s taken the last few years.

Dr. Wagner’s refused to take the loss the last few years. I do not mean inside the ring, but in public feuds and battles. He’s gotten the public to believe he’s won a war with CMLL once, and that CMLL is clearly in the wrong by not letting him come back one again and do whatever he chooses. That plays in to why he’s so valuable to AAA right now, because Wagner’s established himself as bigger than any one company. Except, AAA’s trying to cut him down and make it clear he’s not bigger than AAA. Neither the character of Dr. Wagner or the man behind the mask surely likes that very much, and it’s counter productive to get a deal done.

This is all very confusing.

Mr. Niebla took off his mask and threw it to Hector for the DQ. La Nazi replaced Hiroka.

Situations which are still unresolved: Juvi has not settled with AAA, Fantasma still will not let Silver King wrestle at TripleMania with his mask, or Konnan wrestle at all.

Ovaciones has an interview with Mesias, which is a lot more career bio than actual interview.

AAA’s preview of upcoming tapings now does not include the Acapulco show on 05/30. I don’t know what this means, they could’ve just forgot. Also, AAA looks back at Extreme Tiger and Jack Evans recent career, as well as the last taping in Leon. The next Dos y Tres will have Mesias vs Wagner on the cover.

Segunda Caida has Solar as 20th of 2008.

CMLL (FRI) 05/15 Arena Puebla
1) Blue Center & Iron vs Espiritu Maligno & Siki Ozama Jr.
2) Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata vs Artillero, Polvora, Super Comando
3) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Sahori vs La Seductora, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
4) Maximo, Metro, Valiente vs Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Misterioso II
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

No title or apuesta match for a Fan Appreciation day show. I’m guessing it’s more because they didn’t have time to advertise (or build) one rather than a change in philosophy, but time will tell. First match for Iron here since Christmas 2006. He’s not the same Iron as in Monterrey, right?

CMLL LATV #140 (04/11)

CMLL LATV #140 (taped 04/03, 04/05)

Hey, one where I’ve waited so long to post this, I’ve forgotten anything I wanted to say. That never gets old.

Sahori, Lady Apache, Marcela © vs Hiroka, Amapola, Princesa Blanca © – dives at the end where good, Sahori was fine.

Mascara Dorada, Hijo de Fantasma, La Mascara © vs Felino, Ephesto, Hijo de Lizmark © – it’s too bad they didn’t wait to put Mascara Dorada on screen until now, or at least kept him as Metalik for longer. If he was just now debuting, he probably would have had the success they wanted; he’s a lot more accurate and has his confidence back since they’ve programmed him with Virus and Felino. Now, they’ve got a find to get people to let go of their initial opinion and give him a second shot – maybe the scheduled title match in GDL with Virus was supposed to be a practice run for DF?
