AAA 11/15 (#858)

taped 10/15, aired 11/15

I didn’t like this one any better than the last few, but I don’t have the passion to rant about it forever.

With AAA running one or two angles per segment, it is sort of amazing that they expect casual fans not only to remember Nicho & Lider punking out Chris in the parking lot, but to actually care.

The matches are still poor. I never want want to see Hx vs HF2 again, and am well aware I will not be getting that wish. The insanity of bringing in Rellik in to be Big Scary Dude Who Beats Everyone Up when you have Electro and Kenzo already in the same group doing variations of the same is pretty typical for this period in AAA. Building up Elegido and having him get laid out without getting a shot in latter seems incredibly counter productive.

Who would’ve booked the main event? Doesn’t really make any sense for Roldan to be putting his meal ticket Cibernetico in a match with his three greatest enemies at once. Mesias & Cibernetico both let us know how much the match was going to suck. Zorro’s busy being drunk. It did seem completely random enough to be a Chessman production.

Things I did like, because someone around here has to be positive
* Super Fly increased his offense by infinity, going from 0 to 1 moves
* Teddy vowing to show his anger by doing New Moves and Jack Evans as Martin Luther King
* Hijo de Pirata Morgan, slightly over excited to be on TV
* Zorro WINS. Rooting for Super Fly seems so hopeless, but rooting for Zorro seems entertainingly anti-establishment.

CMLL #897 (11/08)

taped 11/07

I know it gets better, but Mascara Dorada’s debut was completely unnoteworthy. It wasn’t his wrestling – he wasn’t perfect, but he did enough – it was how he was instantly just another guy. The match should’ve been around showcasing him; heck, if they really believe in him being a top level drawing star, the show should’ve been around showcasing him, not making him a footnote to Mistico’s return. Instead, he was just another random tecnico, outshone by Sombra and out-merited by Mascara, who really has no reason to get the big pin here. I guess the idea is the dive is supposed to get him over, but that doesn’t really work so well when Sombra’s just going to out do his dive. This was a flat debut.

Also flat: Jauria del Terror, just a bunch of rejects who are loosely aligned, maybe. There’s no momentum when they’re losing this early and don’t even get a vignette to announce the new group. They’re not better off than the Dark Family in AAA and really are more vital considering Averno’s involved.

I guess the point of the main event is Mistico’s Back, And 100%!, but I wonder if the fans who wanted to see Superman Mistico have moved on now. Nothing here was going to get them back, and those who are left sure would like to see something more competitive.

There’s really no reason not to setup some direction for the company in this main event, except they don’t really have a direction at the moment.

11/22-23 Lucha Times

Quick note – the AAA Taping post was updated with a little more info. And I’m going to try and post a couple more recaps tonight.

Meanwhile, this chart is going to be the most useless ones in quite some time.

AAA-US: I don’t know. This is week 1 of the Pena Memorial two week show. I know for sure we get the cage match, because that aired on Accion, but I’m guessing at how everything else got divided up. The three way is next week, and everything else is iffy.

FSE: I don’t know. The opener is becoming random, and that’ll really cause drama in the comments this weekend. One show gets a minis match, one show gets the new women. Past practice has the women’s match here, with a Triad vs Sombra/Dorada/Micltan match to set up this Sunday’s pseudo rematch.

52MX: That would leave Minis here, as well as Villano/Jauria vs Panther/Wagner/UG.

CMLL-MEX: This should be easy enough, top 3, as we wait to see if they’ll run another angle this year.

AAA-MEX: I don’t know. If AAA didn’t air here last week, do they air that episode (and bump everything back) or go with the one that was scheduled to be in this slot (the Leon taping?)

C3: Top 4, with a fun semimain. They’re probably not doing this, but putting Black Warrior with Dragon Rojo and Misterioso on a regular basis has some nice possibilities.

Cibernetico’s matches with AAA, this week

This may be the start of a new weekly feature.

2008-11-21 Auditorio Municipal de San Luis Rio, Colorado Black Abyss, Cibernetico, El Alebrije vs Electro Shock, Rellik, Zorro

Black Abyss going back to being Black Abyss is probably news worthy too.

11/19: CMLL, GDL, Angel de Oro

CMLL (TUE) 11/18 Arena Mexico
1) Bronco III & Metálico DQ Apocalipsis & Pólvora
2) Dark Angel, Goddess, India Sioux b Medussa, Mima Shimoda, Rosa Negra
3) Axxel, Leono, Mictlán DQ Loco Max, Vangelis, Virus
4) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II b Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura, Valiente
5) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Rudos won the first fall of the main event, got DQed in the second and got beat in the third. Loco Max fouled Micltan in the tercera. Bronco replaced Starman and turned on Metalico.

CMLL (TUE) 11/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
6) Arkangel de la Muerte & Olímpico DQ La Máscara & Máximo
7) Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone b Cien Caras Jr. & Lizmark Jr.

The big news here is Lizmark Jr. showed up for a match. YAY. Street fight of a main event, tecnicos winning clean. Olimpico faked a foul in the semimain.

Ovaciones has an interview with Angel de Oro. Angel de Oro 20 years old and 175 cm tall. He’s the son of Apolo Chavez and brother of Torreon wrestler Guerrero Inca (who may also come to Mexico City.) He was trained by Gran Cochisse and is now with Satanico. Angel de Oro has won no mask or titles, but is aiming for Sangre Azteca’s title and Artillero’s mask.

Ovaciones also mentions Multifacetico may be going rudo in IWRG, and Pirata Morgan Jr., Barba Roja and Barba Negra (? maybe they mean Drake Morgan?) are heading to Naucalpan too. I had that story weeks ago and I didn’t actually need to do any, you know, talking to people to figure it out. Arena Naucalpan is a indy supermagnet, everyone gets attracted.

SuperLucha looks back at some highlights of Pierroth’s career.

AAA (THU) 11/20 Campo de Futbol Matatenatico, Amenalco, Puebla
1) Mari Apache & Ricky vs Escorpion Negro Jr. & Goya
2) Argenis & Mascara Divina vs Espectro de Ultratumba & Picudo
3) Histeria & Psicosis II vs Konnan & X-Pac

Posted to remind you the Vipers are still around, somewhere way off TV. Check out that undercard – Picudo! Barrio Boy Ricky! Porky’s daughter Goya! If there was a B-show to AAA’s A-show (it’d be really good right now and) these guys still might not make it on TV.

Is Arena Corona in Reynosa the same building as Arena Juba? They have the same lineup on the same day, but I’ve never put that together before.

Sagrado suffered the same shoulder injury as Villano V.

Lucha Libre London hype. They’re running 5 shows in 4 days there.

If you’re in Chile, there’s a photo exhibition of Bolivian lucha libre.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and Robert on 07/29/06 CMLL and 09/24 & 10/01 CMLL.

2008 AAA TV Tapings
Projected Air Date (#865)
Mexico: 12/07 (maybe)
US: 12/27

I think I’ve got this correct, but I’m not sure. They just added the minis match today, so there could still be adjustments. The latest article hints appearances from Charly Manson (which makes sense, to set up his guest referee spot) and Cibernetico (which, not so much in the storyline making sense.)

At any rate, this complete the AAA year. The GdT lineup seems legit, and this would be the last TV taping before it. There’s still the post Guerra taping, which will not air until 2009 even in Mexico.

Obviously the opener doesn’t air, but I wonder if the minis doesn’t either. They haven’t gone with six matches on air since they’ve cut down to two hours. Everything else ties in to the big card next week. On the other hand, maybe they’ll just make those singles matches really short (which is a fine idea.) Among other reasons, I really don’t like the six way cage match for GdT because that means maybe one of the feuds ends, the other two continue going forever.

Pegasso working Puebla was enough to leverage a better deal here? I dunno, I’d still expect the Air Force is getting beat to set up the Dark Family losing later on.

I have absolutely nothing left to say about any of these matches. Chessman’s going to turn on Mesias so Zorro can get a pin (and my dreams of Zorro winning the title drastically fall), Super Fly’s going to lose yet again (possibly to set up getting the big win at GdT, but I’m less confident and it surely won’t matter) and why are Mini Abismo and Mini Charly teaming anyway?

EDIT: AAA posted the lineup. Mini Kenzo instead of Charly, and match order changes a bit.
