Battle royale was just okay was far as those go. Still wonder they keep insisting on calling it a Ruleta Rusa when no one was advancing via loss or getting shot in the head. That’s just false advertising. It was kinda neat how they manged to fit it in all one unbroken segment, despite going over 20 minutes.

Minis matches here were almost nothing and I suppose this whole tournament will be the same. I don’t quite understand why they’re bothering to do this – it’s hard to believe we’ll be getting so many minis matches after this tournament to require a title match when we’ve barely been getting any up to this point.

If all the AAA departures mean more Pirates matches, I think I’m going to be okay. I think we’ll all be okay.

Ozz’s impending turn on Mesias may have surprased Bucanero vs Koslov as my favorite storyline which may only exist in my own mind.

When did Dailymotion start allowing up to 20 minute long clips? That may be handy later.

08/20: Televisa, ENESMA, Puebla, NL, Mexico

(SuperLuchas) WWE will announce they’re moving to Televisa on 09/09. Obviously, this will start a domino effect; I doubt AAA is going anywhere but things sure seem to have been sketchy between CMLL and Televisa already. I don’t think this is going to change things tommorow, but next time you’re looking at video feeds, perhaps you should see if there’s a TV Azteca one handy.

ENESMA already has TV, and this show was taped. The return of ENESMA – who’s last scheduled show was June 2005 – is so random, I think this happened in the opposite fashion. AYM Sports probably wanted an hour of lucha libre, probably could get Mil themselves, and started calling around to see who’d be willing to put on a show. I have no proof of this, but it makes more sense than ENESMA magically appearing after three years and miraculously getting at TV deal.

The third match was a lot of Turbo and Skayde. Don’t know what’ll make air.

Arena Neza has gone back to be an independent building. (Poor Ramstein.) No one seems to stick with the building long term. I’ve heard good things about the fans there, but never about the building and area itself (remember, this was the arena that was being used for drug money laundering by the owner back in the early part of the decade.) People keep trying here, so it must be attractive enough to try but not rewarding enough to stay.

Besides being bald, Bam Bam got hurt in his match.

SuperLuchas has one two three posts about CMLL in Spain. Sounds like ticket prices were an issue, but then you could probably get away with high ticket prices if everyone wasn’t flooding Spain with shows.

In rockyson‘s pictures, there doesn’t seem to be a single person who’s in the bleachers. The floor is full, but you don’t run in a place with bleachers if you’re content only filling the floor.

TuTv’s “Lucha Libre Bajo Las Estrellas” won 2nd place in NAMIC’s Excellence In Multi-Cultural Marketing Awards. I have not heard of anything in the last sentence before it turned up on Google and wonder what it would be.

While trying to find out more about that, I stumbled upon this blog history of lucha libre in the Dominican Republic. It’s your usual one post and never again blog, but it’s a very long history piece with lots of photos.

This LOOKS like a TV taping – they don’t advance tournaments on spot shows – so we’ll go with it.

Despite the distressing lack of Kenzo, this is a typical show this close (2 TV weeks) to a major show. They’re keeping in place on most of the storylines with the only movement going on in the undercard. Unless you want to count Mascara Divina existing as a main event shuffling.

Aerostar vs Jack Evans is a rematch of the Alas de Oro final – Super Fly and Teddy are scheduled to second their respective men. I can only assume Super Fly has been raised from the dead and will now be high flying lucha libre zombie. (Or, perhaps, it’s like everyone AAA injury angle where no one’s hurt the next week.)

The Monterrey crew gets a higher position at home (or they’re just putting them ahead of the minis and women to keep everyone happy.)

Minis match is the last of the second round matches. Hopefully they know they’ve ended up with three minis left after this match. I don’t know why you would want to do a triangle minis match for a new belt, but that does fit the modus operandi of AAA tournaments.

Next taping is…the next day? Maybe?

CMLL FSE #105 (08/10)

taped 08/03, aired in the US on 08/10. There’s a skip in the numbers, but not that, because I’m still missing the minis title match show.

This was your typical two random trios matches episode of an MVS show. Opener was marginally better because Felino and Virus took it to the mat for a bit and you don’t get that from everyone.

It occurs to me now, based on this Sunday’s excitement, that the Volador/Warrior feud’s built here has been dropped already. I’d much rather have the trios feud; watching those Ras de Lona clips lately have made me long for Sombra to be on this show a bit more often. That reminds me, Purpura seems to have been trying a few different things here. Not for the finish, of course.

I need to get a custom t-shirt made, with the words “SUPER FLY WAS RIGHT”. Super Fly won the main event for his team, capitalizing on an Electroshock mistake and putting him in a submission hold for the big win. The Legion promptly murdered him, just as he predicted. Super Fly was 21 years old.

Pirata went straight for Elegidio, ripping his mask up and making him bleed. Aerostar got a flash pin on Brazo for the upset win, and the rudos laid out the tencios after the match. They’re teasing a Elegido/Pirata mask versus hair match for Verano de Escandalo.

(HMMMM, both Air Force guys mixing it up with other people and getting big wins. Someone in charge thinking the same way as recent comments?)

Nikki, Teddy’s girlfriend/valet, distracted Hijo de Tirantes while he was counting a pinfall for Ricky Marvin argued, and Teddy gave him the Canadian Destroyer.

Cinthia took a header into a chair and ended up decently hurt – there’s a picture of her in a sort of neck brace. Pimpi beat Polvo.

They didn’t bother posting results of the segunda! The best part is I know someone wrote them, because they always write them and they always turn up on Sololuchas (and everyone else who has access to the super secret AAA media website, which is everyone but me) but AAA can’t be bothered to put them up on their own site. SUCKS TO BE BILLY BOY. I’ll fix this when someone else does AAA’s job for them.

Edit: note how the Gladiatores recap is word for word the recap on the AAA website, except they didn’t decide to excise a match for no reason. How about that. Billy won.

Mini Charly Manson beating Mascarita Sagrada 2007 seems like an upset, but the right call and perhaps an admission they know the new guy underneath the mask isn’t working out as they’d hope.

In other news: (AAA) luchadores to Spain!. What an amazingly innovative idea.

Next Taping: 08/31 or 09/01 or maybe both. They get a couple weeks off from taping TV either way.

I’ve got these finishes from looking thru the photos, which aren’t even actually published on the page. I feel better knowing I’m not the only one who writes something, uploads it, and forgets to check if everything uploaded.

Anyway, top two have been covered elsewhere. Looks like the Perros got a clean pin and the trios champs had their belts and matching gear, so this is an actual title program. Not exactly sure if the women’s trios is a DQ (Amapola shoving the ref) or a clean win for the tecnicas (Apache submission on Amapola), but the tecnicas clearly won. Tony Rivera and Hijo del Faraon were MIA from the second match.

Today’s Ovaciones (the page won’t come up, but you can see the text if yo’ure tricky) says the two CMLL injuries last Friday should not be a major issue going forward. Doctors examined Villano 5 and did not find a fracture, so he won’t be out of action. Also, Mr. Niebla’s going to continue to wrestle despite his broken finger.
