Triplemania PPV, Stuka, Valiente, Vangelis, Fuego advance, Chicas Vuelta Vuelta

TripleMania will be on conventional PPV. AAA confirmed this last night and posted the pricing today. If you order before the show, it’s $18, plus $5 more for HD, plus $2 more if you call to order instead of using the internet. If you wait until Sunday, there’s another $5 surcharge in there.  Whatever way you do it, it’s cheaper to buy the iPPV – but you get on TV, which is nice and I’d pay a little extra not to have to deal with cords and multiple screens.  No word about that movie theater plan.

AAA’s been doing a lot of press all week to talk about TripleMania. The annual pilgrimage, taking place the same day as Antonio Pena’s birthday, is happening right now.

CMLL closed the En Busca de un Idolo polling much earlier this week, updated the scoreboard, then took the scoreboard down and just posted the final totals. They might have done this because the polling scores made no sense. This is what they appeared to be (based on what they had for the last 3 weeks.)

40 Stuka
39 Valiente
37 Vangelis
22 Fuego
5 Sangre Azteca
4 Tiger
4 Hijo del Fantasma
0 Misterioso

The numbers on the website didn’t make any sense as they were listed. It looked like they gave Fuego 42 points for the 40 point poll (despite giving the actual winning 40 to Stuka for the third straight week.) What appears to actually have happened is Fuego got 22 points for votes, and they threw in the 20 points for winning his match over Misterioso in the same column. (The last update still had him listed as 1 win instead of 2.)

The final totals were 333 Valiente
280 Vangelis
278 Stuka Jr.
208 Fuego – should’ve been 206 but there was a typo never fixed
—————————–
202 Hijo del Fantasma
164 Tiger
140 Sangre Azteca
113 Misterioso Jr.

Walking thru the math fails is truly exciting, but the bigger point here is even the people running this system can’t keep track of these numbers – this point system is wildly unsuccessful.  Please make this easy to follow next year, if there is a next year.

For what it’s worth, if you take out the fan poll points, the order would’ve been Valiente, Hijo del Fantasma, Vangelis, Tiger, Stuka, Fuego, Sangre Azteca and Misterioso. The 3/4/5 group are all grouped in within 4 points.

Valiente, Vangelis, Stuka and Fuego advance, three tecnicos and one rudo like last year. Valiente and Stuka are the favorites for making the final two. The intermission trios match this Friday will be Negro Casas, Valiente & Stuka vs Vangelis, Virus and Fuego. Schedule, based on what they announced at the start, looks like

06/21: Valiente vs Vangelis, Stuka vs Fuego
06/28: Valiente vs Fuego, Vangelis vs Stuka
07/05: Valiente vs Stuka, Vangelis vs Fuego

That’ll probably change.

You can now rent the CMLL edecanes – for your corporate or private event. The 16 women currently working as ring girls for CMLL are going to be working as a group named “Chicas Vuelta, Vuelta”, they’ll be booked out thru CMLL’s office the same as the luchadors, they’ll be available to be booked on lucha libre shows as well as other events and they can work as dancers and singers as well. There’s been mentions in the past of some of the CMLL edecans having to choose between working for the promotion or working elsewhere due to conflicts, and this would seem to give them more work if they stay with CMLL. Having all of them at the Father’s Day show this Sunday is the kick off to the initiative.

Super Crazy teams with Ricky Marvin NOAH’s July GHC Junior Tag Team tournament. Pesdailla teams with someone who translates to “Dual Force” as the “Ultraviolent Lucha Libre.” team Maybe Santo Jr. – I guess you can get from Tempestad to Dual Force. The South American team of Kaiser & Gaston Mateo are back as well.

TripleMania XX & Tiffany vs Marcela live coverage

Live coverage has ended.

CMLL’s Arena Mexico show, main evented by a Tiffany vs Marcela hair match, starts at 5pm. (All times Central.)

CMLL (SUN) 08/05/2012 Arena Mexico
1) Astral, Eléctrico, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Warrior
Tecnicos took 2/3 in a lackluster match.
2) Hijo del Fantasma, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Niebla Roja, Puma King, Virus
tecnicos took 2/3 in a match too exciting for internet streams.
3) Kráneo, Morphosis, Psicosis b Blue Panther, Diamante, Guerrero Maya Jr.
Rudos took 1/3. Panther submitted Morphosis, rudos teamed up to beat Maya, and tripped Diamante off the top rope to pin him.
4) Mr. Niebla DQ Shocker [lightning]
Niebla tossed his mask to Shocker for the DQ in 7:15 in a match heavy on Niebla & Zacarias comedy.
5) La Sombra, Máximo, Super Porky DQ Averno, Black Warrior, Terrible
Tecnicos took 2/3. Averno fouled Sombra and ripped off his mask for good measure. Sombra challenged Averno to a singles match next week. Averno said yes, and he’d win in two falls. Sombra says that if he wins, he wants a mask vs Averno’s ugly hair match.
6) Marcela b Tiffany [hair]
Seconds were Kraneo and Astral. Tiffany’s mom, the original la Diabolica, was in the crowd. Tiffany attacked Marcela with a plastic pipe before the match. Marcela fought back in a longer than average first fall, but Tiffany won with a Buca Storm. Second fall was also long, with Kraneo interfering. Tiffany escaped a Michinoku Driver into a cradle, but Marcela reversed it and grab the ropes for the pin. Tiffany and Kraneo protested, and got Tigre Hispano kicked out as referee. Maya replaced him. Tiffany and Marclea kicked out of each other’s finishes in a long third fall, and Marcela won with a super Michinoku Driver. Tiffany’s mom came in the ring to give her daughter a hug and cut off part of the hair. Tiffany shaved some of her own hair.

A live stream of the show can be found on the Terra website: http://deportesmx.terra.com.mx//en-vivo/2333/. The stream  is occasionally working.

TripleMania has a scheduled start time of 6:30 pm.

Perro Aguayo Sr. is in the building.

AAA TV (SUN) 08/05/2012 Arena Ciudad de Mexico
1) Fabi Apache, Fenix, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata b Dark Dragon, Mini Charly Manson, Sexy Star, Yuriko
Fabi pinned Yuriko.

AAA honored Antonio Pena (as they set up the cage for the next match.)

2) Joe Lider & Psicosis L Chessman & Juventud Guerrera and Extreme Tiger & Halloween and Jack Evans & Teddy Hart [relevos suicidas, cage]
cage match, with the “final team” facing off in for hair (or mask.) Moved down to the second match. Halloween and Juvi were the first two out, followed by Tiger, Jack and Teddy. Vampiro interfered, causing Chessman to fall off the cage and thru a table. The final two left were Psicosis and Lider, who would meet in a later match.

Perro Aguayo was introduced as the newest member of AAA’s Hall of Fame. Mascara Ano 2000 Sr. (w/Argos) interrupted to challenge him to a hair vs hair match. Perro declined.

3) La Parka, Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Octagón, Semental, Texano, Toscano
Octagon tried fouling Parka, fouled Semental instead, and Parka got the pin. Consejo turned on Octagon. Parka thought about making the save and finally did. Octagon was surprised. Doesn’t seem like he’s a tecnico yet.
4) Psicosis b Joe Lider [hair]
all the hardcore spots you’d expect. Tirantes got involved, and Lider went thru a table for the loss.
5) Electroshock & LA Park b Jeff Jarrett & Kurt Angle [seconds hair]
Park & Electro represent Joaquin. Jarrett and partner represent Dorian. Abyss got involved, but his interference may have backfired. Electroshock pinned Angle. Konnan protested, but Dorian relented and apologized to his family. Joaquin forgave him and wanted to wave the hair match stip. LA Park was angry and argued, and the TNA team took advantage to attack the tecnicos. Dorian revealed his apology was a ruse and had the rudos shave Joaquin, never losing his own hair.
6) El Mesías b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [AAA HEAVY]
Mesias retained the title. Perro tried a martinete late in the match, but Garza broke it up and argued with Perro. Garza would end up hitting Perro with a chair (by mistake?) and Perro bled a large amount. Piero and the doctor considered stopping the match, but they kept going and Mesias won. Cibernetico mocked Perro after the loss, and Garza hit Perro. Perro Sr. came out to check on his son, while the rest of the Perros had words with Garza. Garza is out of Los Perros del Mal
7) Dr. Wagner Jr. b Máscara Año 2000 Jr. [mask]
Mascara Ano 2000 was with his son, and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Silver King were Wagner’s seconds, but Silver King turned on his brother during this match and the ref slow counted Wagner at times. Despite all the interference (and with his wiping some of them out on a dive), Wagner hit Mascara with a bottle and pinned him for the win.

Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. was announced as Ángel Reyes, from Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco. Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. is not believed to be an actual member of the Reyes family, so that’s probably not his full real name.

AAA Notes: TripleMania Date, Location Announced, Cibernetico returning?

AAA posted a bunch of news last night.

– not only is Rey de Reyes confirmed to be March 15 in Plaza de Toros Nuevo Progreso in Guadalajara, TripleMania is announced to be June 13th in Palacio de los Deportes, Mexico City.

Seems very early to announce that, especially considering they don’t even list the TV taping dates for this month (02/07’s lineup just went up.) I don’t know what it means. Maybe nothing.

– Rey De Reyes will have a 16 wrestler field, as usual. Unlike last year, it doesn’t appear everyone will have to qualify to be in the match. A news update declares Silver King is the first entrant. Probably not going to win, though he looks better than a month ago.

– the latest WON says Cibernetico is talking to AAA about his eventual return. Working as an indy is not working out. He could be back as early as March (it’s not definite). Later there’s a oblique mention of the main event picture changing after Rey de Reyes, which would probably make sense for Cibernetico’s return and a change of ‘Konnan running AAA’ status quo.

– the WON also mentions AAA plans on taping for TV during it’s US tour, probably in Los Angeles (04/04) and Las Vegas (which they actually haven’ t announced as running?)

– AAA’s site is running a poll, asking people if they want to see Vampiro return to the ring. As if you thought he really might not.

Update: AAA just announced Charly Manson will return on 02/18 in Parque de Beisbol de Celaya, Guanajuato. (Which also says that taping is that day.) Match is Charly/Latin Lover/X-Pac vs Konnan/Zorro/Electroshock.

7) Head Hunter I, Rikishi, Ron Killings, Sabu b La Parka Jr., Latin Lover, the Animal, Zorro
8) Kenzo Suzuki L Cibernetico, Chessman, Charly Manson, Mesias, X-Pac [cage, hair]

Air Date
Mex: 07/22 – this was a 5 hour show live, so I still think there’s a possibility they split it.
US: 08/11

The following is cribbing heavily from Medio Tempo‘s report, because they’ve got the only detailed account I’ve seen. I’ve bolded a couple of changes I’ve noticed from early reports. You can read prior TripleMania coverage (live, and day after) elsewhere on this webpage.

Charly Manson exited the cage first, followed by X-Pac. X-Pac and Konnan teamed up to lay out Charly on the outside, and set up a whole bunch of tables. Mesias started to escape, Chessman went after him, and that’s when Chessman took the huge bump off the cage to the tables. This left Kenzo and Cibernetico inside. Mesias tried to help by blowing fire at Cibernetico, but Kenzo got it instead, and that lead to the pin.

Konnan got in a cheap shot on Zorro which lead to the Rikishi pin in the semimain. It sounds like Zorro being stretchered out was storyline (selling the Bonzai Drop) while Parka being stretchered out might or might not have been (landed on his bad shoulder while taking a bump for a Sabu move.)

Sangre Chicana and Octagon did work as seconds in the Guerrera v Guerrera battle. Tirantes was the ref, so you can figure how this went early. Octagon did indeed get tied to the ropes to prevent him from helping, and the comeback started with Pepe Casas coming out to cut him free. Somehow in the battle, Sangre Chicana was locked in ambulance to prevent him from interfering, and Juvi pinned Fuerza with Pepe Casas counting. Fuerza offered a handshake post match, but Juvi refused and walked off with Octagon. Juvi should totally decide to be Octagon Jr. now.

In the notLadder match, Extreme Tiger (second) set up Scoria (second) on a table on the floor and went to the top rope to put him thru, but Ozz shoved Extreme Tiger off, and Tiger hit the floor. The table remained unbroken, so Cuervo set up Lider on the table and did hit his dive thru the table, but Lider and Cuervo were hurt in the process. Crazy Boy overcame took out Escoira and Ozz, winning with a (wait for it) chair assisted flying move to Mexican Powers win the tag titles.

Box Y Lucha?/unmasked Super Calo

The Relevos Incredible matchup ended up being Gran Apache & Laredo Kid vs Super Fly & Super Calo, so it was change of plans. Apache & Calo opted to work it like they were tag partners early on, beating down the Fuerza Aerea duo. Somewhere in here, Laredo Kid missed a dive on Calo, but was all right (relatively.) Like recent AAA tag matches, this was one fall to a finish (not elimination style), so when Apache beat Super Fly, it was over.

The Super Fly vs Super Calo match was held after the ladder match and the Guerreras match. Super Calo was revealed to be Rafael Garcia of DF, 15 year wrestler. They did a bit with Alan Stone consoling him to set up the new alliance.

Alebrije & Cuije beat Scorpio Jr. & Guaptio with planchas to win that match.

Alfa beat Oriental with a Dragon Suplex to win the opener. Oriental was KOed in the process.

Lita performed after the show. Ricky Marvin was announced as coming in September.
