IWRG on Teleformula #25 (04/24/2010)

Arena Naucalpan, 04/18/2010

* el Ángel, La Roca, Suicida vs Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro, Veneno (part 2) – La Roca is not good, and this match spent the first six minutes with Veneno and La Roca wrestling. So there’s that.

* Canek & Máscara Año 2000 Jr. vs Pirata Morgan & Scorpio Jr. in a relevos suicidas match – they resulting singles match had two different visual pinfalls to protect Canek, which was actually about three less than I was expecting. Theat match was still hilariously one sided as well.

Teleformula has not aired a new episode since this one, and I don’t feel like I missing much.

IWRG on Teleformula #24 (04/17/2010)

Arena Naucalpan, 04/11/2010

Dr. Cerebro vs Masada for the IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight Championship: Remember when I liked Masada and Takemura around 2002? This was not 2002.

Canek, Gran Alebrije, Scorpio Jr. vs Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Pirata Morgan (and part 2): Maybe my standards are especially low, but I thought Canek looks fine here. Not fine as I’d like to ever see him again, but he’s about where he was (or maybe a little better) than he was before having double knee surgery, which is more than I was expecting. Still had no use for this match but it’s nice for Canek anyway.

Daga & Héros vs Comando Negro & Eterno (and part 2): Is there any other promotion in the world that would put trainees in a twenty minute match and air it all on TV? I’m thinking no (and maybe that would’ve been the best.)

There have been times in recent IWRG, and the first fall of this match was one of those times, where it feels like I’ve missed some announcement about IWRG switching to a figure skating-like judging system. Like, luchadors get graded about the level of difficulty of holds they lock on two seconds, but actually using those holds to win the match is beside the point.

It’s not just that they only lock on the holds for a two seconds, it’s that other guy never actually tries to escape. The attacker just gains the position, holds it long enough to prove he did it, and lets go with no struggle. They’re living exhibitions of a book of 1,001 Holds, but I signed up to watch an actual fight.

Gringo Loco & Maldito Jr. vs Trauma I & Trauma II: This was OK. Maldito Jr. did not seem out of place, which was a little bit of a surprise.

IWRG on Teleformula #2122 (04/03/10)

Arena Naucalpan, 03/21/2010. This is a stitched together recap from both airings (the 04/03 show includes about 10-15 minutes more of show), but watched at a distance apart. It probably makes less sense than usual.

Bobby Lee Jr., La Roca, Suicida vs Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Oficial 911: Dhani Jones is better than La Roca. Maybe better than Bobby Lee Jr. at this point. I wish IWRG banned heavyweights.

El Hijo del Diablo vs Dr. Cerebro for the IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight Championship and WWS Welterweight Championship: doing a title match in title match style really didn’t fit with this feud or what I was looking for from these guys. The existence of the WWS Belt kinda makes the IWRG belts look dumb – what’s the point of a belt if Diablo can grab another one off the street and make it worth the same – but I guess someone decided having lots of belts looked cool that week.

IWRG on Teleformula #20 (03/20/2010)

Arena Naucalpan, 03/14/2010

Title says this was a month ago, but it feels like five.

Black Terry, Chico Che, Dr. Cerebro vs Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco: same as the other matched they were having, though the whole brass knucks DQ finish is odd given all the stuff that was completely OK.

Dhani Jones vs Máscara Año 2000 Jr. – for a non-wrestler vs wrestler, this was OK if very simple. I have no use for Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. (and none of the matches that have followed has changed my mind on it), so this way overachieved. Interested on how this will look on TV.
