CMLL on Televisa #1022 (04/02/2011)

Super Porky tope

taped @ Arena Mexico, 03/18/2011

file: here
recap: here

La Sombra, Rush, Toscano vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas: A usual match between these teams, though the crowd didn’t seem to be into Peste Negra as usual. (Different crowd than usual? Crowd still hated Rush and Toscano and weren’t fans of Sombra) Mr. Niebla defeating Sombra could be setting up something…in a parallel universe where Niebla could be trusted.

Averno vs Máscara Dorada for the NWA World Middleweight Championship: It was a great Mascara Dorada aerial show. It needed to be something more than that. If Dorada is going to become what CMLL wants him, he’s got to show he’s got more than cool dives. Dorada came across as a spectacular midcard guy, but not a top guy who came very close. This just being a set up for Black Warrior’s return doesn’t help, and that might have been more effective if he prevented the interference rather than waited until after the match to get involved. I wonder if someone decided Dorada couldn’t win this one, because he was going after Lyger’s title? I’m not sure he’s going to win that one either.

Máximo & Super Porky vs Terrible & Texano for the hair: Better than I expected. The last match was worked true to form – it was a lot of a Mistico/Averno match with Dorada plugged in – this match was worked outside the usual beatdown->comeback format, going back and forth all the way. Alvarados dropped the comedy, fought seriously for the occasion, and acquitted themselves well. I always dislike the short falls, but I think this was about as long a match as Porky could’ve gone.

02/02: Guadalajara, Box Y Lucha, Mexico

CMLL (TUE) 01/30 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara Results
1) Mileno b Virgo
2) Neon b Valentin Mayo
3) Destroyer b Exterminador
4) Mr. Power b Azazel
5) Leon Blanco b Egipcio
6) Mascara Purpura, Stuka Jr. b el Hijo del Pierroth, Emilio Charles Jr.
7) Máscara Año 2000, Pierroth, Universo 2000 b Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas, Rayman

Hijo del Pierroth turned up to foul Rayman in the main event, and Pierroth took the pin.

Random Guatamela lucha card.

Box Y Lucha posted a bunch of articles on Wednesday, and I keep forgetting to write about them.
Brazo de Plata is angry about others advertising themselves as “Porky”, or “Porkys, specifically his brothers. He feels they’re leeching off his success, and the only people who should be using his name or nicknames is himself and his son. He doesn’t believe they should even call themselves the Brazos, because the Brazos were only Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Plata and el Brazo – all the others might be brothers, but they’re all imposers. He’s okay with then calling being Nuevo Brazos, but he doesn’t want the public deceived.
Brazo de Oro clears up the family tree, except I still don’t know who/if Brazo Jr. is related too. His story of the names seems slightly different than what I’ve read before; Shadito Cruz was nicknamed “Man with the Golden Arm” for a while and Oro started out using that “Hombre de Brazo de Oro” name. Mil Mascaras complained to him that his look was too similar, so they redesigned his outfit and his name to Brazo de Oro. Porky asked his father if he could use Brazo de Plata, and his father as Oro, who said okay; same with El Brazo. When Brazo de Oro was out due to kidney surgery, Super Brazo took his place in the trio, and so on from there. I think Brazo de Oro’s point is they all got their name, directly or indirectly, from Shadito Cruz’s nickname, so they all have the right to call themselves Brazos.
Misterioso II tells his story of the fan incident. Pretty much what he said before, though he adds a few details: despite contrary reports, the fan was not a kid (he was old enough to get in a bar later that night), he missed those Coliseo shows as punishment for his actions in addition to a fine, and the fan never protested to the commission but he’s still apologizing for everything. Rambo writes about his own experiences with fans throwing stuff at wrestlers.
a list of past February deaths, including Huroki Sito (unclue of Panico and Black Cat), Acorazado Moreno (father of the AAA Morenos), El Cobarde I, and El Santo.

CMLL (FRI) 02/02 Arena Mexico
1) Flash & Super Nova vs Artillero & Super Comando
2) Mascara Purpura, Texano Jr., Virus vs Arkangel, Hooligan, Loco Max
3) Lizmark Jr., Maximo, Ultimo Dragon vs Averno, Mephisto, Sangre Azteca
4) La Mascara, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Damian 666, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Aguila
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Rey Bucanero, Shocker vs Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Ultimo Guerrero

Ovaciones has a profile of Marco Corelone. Corelone claims that if Shocker is 1000% Guapo, that means Marco is 1000000% Guapo. The exchange rate is brutal. Esto has an article on Rey Bucanero. Rey would like to fight for Ultimo Guerrero’s mask, but figures he’d have to put up more than his hair to get a shot at – probably his whole career. Elsewhere in that paper, Rey hopes for a title/title match with Atlantis, and pushes the Corelone/Shocker feud.

CMLL is pushing the semimain as a dream team of young stars versus the Perros. Semimain should be something between Ultimo Dragon and Sangre Azteca again.

01/18: IWRG, Box Y Lucha

CMLL

IWRG (SUN) 01/14 Arena Naucalpan Results
1) Trauma I, Trauma II b Golem, Puma King
2) Bacteria, Freelance, Turbo b Avisman, Black Terry, Black Thunder
3) Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Suicida DQ El Hijo del Diablo, Fantasma de la Ópera, Veneno
4) Camorra, Canek, Mascara Ano 2000 b Dos Caras, Negro Navarro, Sagrado
5) Electroshock b Mascara Sagrada [1, IWRG IC HEAVY]

Electro gets his title shot versus Canek on 02/04; I’m shocked they’ve announced the date. Trios champs lost the tercera when Fantasma piledrove Suicida, which will do it to you every time.

Ovaciones’ preview of IWRG’s Sunday card says the Corp/tecnicos atomicos has been changed to a trios match for the belts.

AAA’s redesigned their site. It’s still not great, but it’s better than a few hours ago when they had some completely unreadable buttons up. They didn’t actually add much of new content.

Box Y Lucha has posted more articles from it’s latest edition
Cibernetico says the people like them because he’s real, and he’s says what they want to say, to anyone. Ciber echos the “Latin Lover’s forgotten his people” and drops Kawaghi’s name.
The Villanos share their memories of Villano I. Villano III’s stories all are about winning street fights against thugs with superior numbers.
India Sioux talks about her start in lucha libre. She’s going be in Japan from 01/23 to 01/30 (or 02/01 by the time she’s back). CMLL.com says Marcela and Hiroka are going as well.
Pirata Morgan reminds us that the eye patch is not a work, he really has one eye. But he also explains he’s strengthened that one eye so much, he has perfect peripheral vision. That’s why he’s the best in the world.
– Pirata Morgan has a hot daughter, which just boggles my mind. Perla Negra is training (apparently while not wearing much if you believe these pictures), but not yet wrestling.
Perro Aguayo Jr. tells everyone who think the Perros are cooling off to shut up. Okay. (Guess they’re cooling off.)
Rambo talks about the saddest day in his life; the day his father died.
Arena Queretaro celebrates 24 years of lucha libre.

Villano III chats with Box Y Lucha on 01/23 at 2:00pm.

In today’s Ovaciones, Coco Rojo and Super Muneco hype up this weekend’s VIP show by talking about having a mask match…sometime later. For now, it’ just a singles match.

WWE pushed it’s Mexico tour back a week.

03/22 (THU) Mexico City
03/23 (FRI) Mexico City
03/24 (SAT) Chihuahua (not Tijuana)
03/25 (SUN) Monterrey

…so CMLL is totally running the week before. I wonder what they’ll do in a Arena Coliseo Monterrey that week.

Tickets range between $23 up to $183 US. I think Chris Benoit is the biggest lucha libre name value draw included in the list of people on this tour (subject to change); Chavo’s there too, but he hasn’t had much of a Mexican career. They’re going after a different fanbase, so maybe that’ll be fine, but it didn’t seem like things were strong enough last time to do two shows in the same city. Rey Mysterio is not listed as participating at this time.

Sunday is Brazo de Plata’s 30 year anniversary of starting his lucha libre career.

12/31: Accion highlights

CMLL: Avenro, Tarzan Boy, Black Warrior vs Volador Jr., Mistico, Negro Casas from Friday night. Mistico dive (plancha), Mistico headscissors, Mistico fireman’s carry into a headscissors. It’s a bit of him. He rips up Avenro’s mask, and we get the stupid ref cam to see it. There’s the slingshot into a headsicsosrs on the floor. Negro gets in his dive, Volador gets in his dive, Averno ends the madness when Mistico tries a springboard. Averno didn’t even bother to go for a cover after it, he just went for Mistico’s mask and shoved down the refs when they tried to stop him. Almost enough to make you think they’re actually setting up that mask match – but no.

AAA: Four way hair match from GdT. Brazo Jr. runs in and gets into a fight with – Piero of all people. Porky is too fat for the tecnicos to push back in the ring at one point, and that’s quite believable. Porky goes up top for no reason and gets low blowed and powerbomb – he pretty much deserved to lose for that. Oddly, Porky doesn’t seem to bleed in this match. Anyway, Scorpio (who is bleeding) touches five corners, and the idea is Porky attacks him, not realizing it’ll send him in to the sixth buckle (Porky can’t lose his hair clean, that’d be crazy), but Scorpio was getting there a second later anyway so it was dumb. Alan and Scorpio were pretty thrilled.

See you next year.

12/08 Guerra de Titanes results

Bumped because AAA’s updated their site!

AAA TV (FRI) 12/08 Centro de Convenciones de Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas Results [KrisZ]
1) Billy Boy, Fabi Apache, Mascarita Sagrada, Pimpinela Escarlata b Gran Apache, Mini Abismo Negro, Polvo de Estrellas, Rossy Moreno
2) Abismo Negro, Antifaz, Charly Manson, Histeria b Alebrije, Angel, Elegido, Laredo Kid
3) Cuervo, Ozz, Scoria b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Psicosis II
4) Brazo de Plata Jr. L Scorpio Jr. and Alan Stone and Intocable [hair, bull terrier]
5) Elix Skipper, Head Hunter I, Hotusff Hernandez DQ Alebrije, La Parka Jr., Octagon
6) Cibernetico b Muerte Cibernetica [coffin]

Notes

Main event was a coffin match, with Konnan as special ref. Everyone ran in and used weapons. Banderas was bleeding by the time he went into the coffin.

Head Hunter I, a large intimidating man, faked a foul to win the match for his team. YAY BOOKING.

The four way match used “last guy NOT to touch all six corners loses his hair.” Alan escaped first, then Intocable, and Scorpio low blowed Porky to stop him. Scorpio wins, and Porky has his son (Brazo de Plata Jr.) shave his head.

Muerte showed up to help the rest of the sect against the Mexican Powers. Crazy Boy took a barbed wire bump.

Abismo gave Laredo Kid a black hammer to win the segunda. Charly Manson officially left the Vipers for the Hell Brothers after the match.

Gran Apache offered to return his grandson Marvin to Fabi and Billy Boy if they won the match. He cheated and is still champion of Marvin.

Next taping is 12/15, and that’s the next post.

12/10: Accion, NJPW, Takemura

Accion Highlights:

CMLL: Shocker/Dos Caras Jr./Mascara Sagrada vs LA Park/Blue Demon Jr./Hector Garza from the 11/20 Arena Mexico Teleton show. They had a special Teleton ring mat – weird to see all that purple. Sagrada still doesn’t look good. Park cheats to win on a charity show – what a rudo!

AAA: Muerte Cibernetico vs Cibernetico in Toluca. Just for me, the clip starts with RUN INS. Anyway, the Sect beat up Chessman while Muerte takes care of Cibernetico by himself. Chessman gives him a choke slam, but Muerte sneaks in a low blow and gets the slow count three.

If the 12/15 show is still on PPV (no confirmation, yet again), then I’m guessing this past week’s Arena Mexico show airs next week. Dunno for sure.

The only result we know for sure at from Friday’s AAA show is Porky lost his hair, since it’s on Luchas 2000.

a shocking turn of events: Negro Casas and Texano Jr. did not win the IWGP Junior Tag Team Titles despite winning every match in the lead up. They’ll return to Mexico, and this will be never mentioned again.

Somewhat related-ly, Takemura’s back in Mexico for a bit this week. He will also not win any title belts, but perhaps will lose his hair.
