CMLL FSE #106 (08/17)

taped 08/10, aired 08/17

Minis trios match was okay, but there’s been better. Main event felt like they were going thru the motions, but that’s what you expect in a meaningless match. You got the spots you were expecting.

  1. Match 2: Mephisto (c), Ephesto, Texano vs Valiente, Sagrado, La Mascara (c)
    Arena Coliseo, ??/??/??

    1. tecnicos
    * 3256-3726
    * +4
    2. rudos
    * 4138
    3. a
    * 5208-5558

  2. Yeah that was definitely a weak match. Seemed like the second fall was edited though. Strange seeing Bam Bam with hair after seeing him earlier in the day without hair.

  3. Mini Estrellas(midgets/vertically challenged) in the main event is a disgrace. This is why CMLL has no cred on FSE.

  4. Minis are midcard. FOX SPORTS looks stupid for airing it as a main event. A male demo network just shouldn’t be showing more than one fall of the minis.

    There was a slight glitch on the AAA PPV tonight. Show went off about 15 seconds early, as Konnan tried to give info on the luchalibreusa.com website, and the next PPV. So we didn’t see the credits, which would’ve included Moody Jack’s name, etc……….. All the crowd noise was canned. No Televisa commentary.

  5. a) when does FSE show something that’s not midcard? They didn’t exactly have Mistico vs Perro in the opener

    b) it’s a two match show. There are two matches. It’s one match, and then another match. There are no main events.

    c) doing a hair match as the first match, and then showing a match in which the tecnico captian knocked himself silly in the first two minutes is infinitely sillier.

    d) “A male demo network just shouldn’t be showing more than one fall of the minis” needs more explaining, because no one else is accepting that

  6. d) I think Keith goes with the mystic of “minis are kids working as luchadors”, which only kids themselves believe (and only a few), the male demo is perfectly aware that minis are athletes in their own right.

  7. I dunno Keith, you’ve posted some random comments but this takes the cake as not only ridiculous but also pretty damn rude. People who saw the match raved about it and wouldn’t you WANT to put a great match in your main event hoping if a new viewer is tuning in they’ll enjoy it and come back for more? Forget if it’s men, women, midgets, trannies, animals, nazis… the name of the game is putting on a good show for the fans.

    When AAA drew a sellout at the L.A. Sports Arena on August 6, 1994 for a mini’s mask vs mask match in the main event, did the fans walk out due to the disgrace of seeing the midgets go on last? Did AAA lose all their cred and never show their face in L.A. again b/c they dared put on a show with two midgets in the main event?

    The only losing of cred going on here is you with me.

  8. That was the lowest AAA gate at the venue. 8,000 and Skoler ranted about the minis not being a draw in a stip match.

    I’m not being rude, and I’ve said the same thing about the women too. Wrestling is a tv product, and should be produced as such. Most people don’t have the attention span to see the same match for three segments. CMLL on FSE is six segments, usually one fall each segment, unless there’s a match that is over in two falls. They would be better off airing one complete match, and final falls of other matches. This format sucks, and that’s what Mexicans tell me all the time. That’s why they prefer AAA or WWE.

    You have to watch Hannity and Colmes on FOX NEWS to understand the entertainment value of tv. The show is one hour, six segments, with each segment being a different topic. Show starts confirming that Biden is running with Obama. Segment two is reactions from other pols on Obama’s choice. Seg three is video of Obama voting against partial birth abortion, and interview with a nurse who cradled a baby that was born this way. Seg four is about whether or not the wives should be a campaing issue. Seg five is a roundtable via satellite. Seg six builds to the next episode with H&C arguing. As a result, the show is getting huge ratings. They could easily spend three segments on one topic, and three on another topic(these are heavy topics that you can argue about for hours), but it would kill the ratings. It would be boring.

    That’s how I feel watching CMLL on FSE. On H&C, it’s like watching a hot, fast-paced Mid-Atlantic or WWF show from the mid-80’s. That’s a missing element on CMLL.

  9. I already gave the solution for FSE. Tape FSE one week, with the main and segunda as one episode, tercera and semi as another episode. This will give both 52mx and FSE a better balance of stars, which FSE needs. I don’t think that’s rude, or takes the cake.

    Again, if I offended anyone before, I apologize. Just thinking of things from a tv standpoint.

  10. I felt it was the right move to have the minis match on last because it was a hair match and CMLL’s been building their feud up on FSE for the past couple of weeks.

    Nice to see Espanto Jr. on TV. He still looks pretty badass too.

  11. I heard they mentioned Espanto jr during the minis match but I missed him… damn…

    I remember the story of Mascarita and Espectrito doing less than expected in that LA show, but that was a long time ago, minis were not that established at the time, and besides, it was not the main event for the Coliseo show, just for the tv show, which, as mentioned, had featured their feud so I think it was alright, or at least, no worse than Leon-o vs Mogur embarrassment.

    3 falls format is not to blame, today’s AAA show had the last segment going 39 minutes (with two matches) and the previous segment 22 minutes with Chessman/Marvin vs HF2.0, sure, they’re one fall matches, but CMLL could easily air full matches on segments that long, 39 minutes in an eternity for the “short attention span” theory.

    BTW, my laptop crashed during the last segment so I had to watch the local feed which was just starting, weird thing is that the Gala feed ended 15 minutes before the 3 hour mark while the local feed had AAA ending a couple of minutes past the mark, so it seems they are not airing it “live” to add commercials, which were all local advertisers (OK, I’m counting Laredo Tx as local)

  12. Exactly. The minis, even in title or hair matches never go on last at Coliseo or Arena Mexico. So why should I be knocked for saying they should not go on last on tv?

    Remember when AAA was given a one-hour show on Televisa? The first thing Pena did was go to one fall. AAA hasn’t looked back.

    Chui is right that they can show two falls in a segment. That would work.

  13. Is US FSE airing advertisements for other stuff not being self FSE programming? They are not doing so in this version, although they killed some time with a Rosalio Vera (I think it was him) segment which aired outside of the GdR segments.

  14. Your cable system can insert ad for anything they want. My cable system sometimes runs ads for ESPN Deportes on Galavision. FSA probably isn’t running the ads themselves.

  15. @luchalibrelive!: No no no, you didn’t say anything about one fall, position on the card or attention span… you said:

    “Mini Estrellas(midgets/vertically challenged) in the main event is a disgrace.”

    You can backtrack all you want but you were clearly saying the smaller guys have no right being in the main event of a CMLL TV show.

    I can’t believe I read a comparison between CMLL FSE and Hannity/Colmes. Plus I’m not even sure if you know exactly what you’d like to see on FSE b/c in one response you say they should air one complete match + clips of the other matches and 2 minutes later there is a post from you again about taping the main and segunda to air in six segments. I suppose none of those matches should involve the midgets too, right? Their matches should air on FSE Kids or FSE Vertically Challenged to appeal to the right demographic.

    “A male demo network just shouldn’t be showing more than one fall of the minis.”

    Have there been studies on males around the world which prove watching midgets for more than 5 minutes causes them to turn the channel? Perhaps out of insecurity that men half their size are more athletic than they are?

    Are you going to be the one to alert Marco Corleone that he is banned from wrestling on any television taped for FSE b/c he doesn’t appeal to a male demographic? Or is he allowed to wrestle for 5 minutes as well?

    This is ridiculous.

    For anyone who saw the match and didn’t fall asleep in the first segment – how was it? Did FSE chop it to shreds?

  16. Well, I’m just throwing things out there. Both formats that I propose make sense, and I think they would be better than the current one on FSE.

    I’m all for the midgets. I’ve said many times that the minis are important. I can’t imagine a show without them, and credit them with some of AAA’s success. It’s a great formula. Minis, mujeres, trannies, and the stars on top. And I can’t wait to see minis at the Anniversary show, and it wouldn’t be a big show at ArMex without minis and Sara Stock(sadly she’s hurt).

    Marco Corleone? I would edit out his sexy talk and gyrations on FOX, and feature his Air Italia and athletic ability more. FSE is a network driven on male demos.

  17. @Rob: Well, the second fall was short on tv, the third was by far the longest, so it’s hard to tell if they edited a lot. I don’t think so, and they even had post match promos and complete haircut, unlike Televisa has done in the past.

    The opener was just two falls, and they showed too much Rosalio Vera, possibly as filler. Great show. Only change I would’ve made is showing some Ras de Lona segments on upcoming 8/29 show instead of the photog shit.
