CMLL vs indy chaos in Chilanga Mask, Veneno rudo?
CHILANGA MASK (SUN) 11/23/2014 Coliseo Coacalco, Coacalco, Estado de México [Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Estrellas del Ring, MedioTiempo]
1) Alan Extreme, Centvrión, Fulgor I b Chico Che, Kronos, Tornado (DF) and Dragon Negro, Hijo Del Angel, Ironía and Demente Extreme, Karma, Terremoto [semifinal]
Team Fulgor moved onto the second round. Centviron replaced Toxin Boy, who was hurt on the WMC show.
2) Astro Rey Jr., Benji Maverick, Psico Kid b Freelance, Hormiga, Suicida and Matrix Jr., Muerte Infernal, Yoruba and Aviador Del Cielo, Kastigador Jr., Zurdog [semifinal]
Guardianes De La Galaxia moved onto the second round.
3) Astro Rey Jr., Benji Maverick, Psico Kid b Alan Extreme, Centvrión, Fulgor I
Guardianes De La Galaxia won the eight team tournament.
4) Arez DCOR Sagrado
Good match. Neither man could return to the ring after a Spanish Fly thru a table.
5) Draego b Stukita
6) Dr. Cerebro b Jeque
Good match. Cerebro praised Jeque after the match.
7) Trauma I & Trauma II b Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II and Herodes & Tóxico DF
Herodes and Toxico were out first. Rayo II pulled Trauma II’s mask, Trauma II fouled Rayo Tapatio II, Trauma II pulled Rayo II into a cradle and got the win.
8) Black Terry b Rey Hechicero
a masked man ran in to try and cost Terry the match with a chair, but failed and got Hechicero instead. The man was revealed to be Guerrero Maya Junior, apparently refusing to give up fighthing Black Terry. Maya wants Terry yet again, but Hechicero was angry with both of them.
9) Erick Ortiz & Kaientai b Dinamic Black & Fly Star
10) Dragon Lee II, Star Jr., Stuka Jr. DRAW Belial, Extreme Tiger, Impulso
(was indeed a trios, I had this wrong.) Crowd was loudly anti-CMLL and the usual tecnicos had moments of being rudos. Stuka & Tiger went to a double pin. A fight continued after the match with all six guys being involved and referees, other wrestlers and the promoters trying to keep the two sides apart.
(Results corrected: 11/24 3pm CT)
Among the things I misunderstood yesterday is the main event trios match did happen, just the other four were fighting while Stuka and Tiger finished up. (Even worse is my inability to name about half the team members in the opener, which may have been more of a mini tournament than an eight way.) I still don’t have any better idea of what happened after the main event with Stuka and the CMLL guys; the recaps portray it as an angle building to an Indy/CMLL match but I’m not sure that’s all it was.
Of note, Trauma II was wearing “Fuera Pena” and “43” in body paint, referring to Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto, and last week’s demonstrations against him. Blue Demon Jr. among others spoke out against the president previously, but it’s very rare to see any political statement inside a lucha libre show. (Except those sponsored by politicians, I guess.)
Black Terry Jr. has video of the Arez/Sagrado match.
IWRG (SUN) 11/23/2014 Arena Naucalpan [@naoki909, The Gladiatores]
1) Araña de Plata & Hip Hop Man b Látigo & Saruman
Latigo replaced Alfa
2) Liderk, Rayan, Spartan b Dragón Celestial, Emperador Azteca, Septimo Dragon
Rudos went after Septimo’s shoulder.
3) Canis Lupus & Eterno b Diva Salvaje & Miss Gaviota and Golden Magic & Relámpago and Trauma I & Trauma II [IWRG IC TAG, #1 Contenders]
Traumas beat the Exoticos, Canis & Eterno beat Golden Magic & Relampago (who hurt and did not wrestle much), Trauma II beat Canis, Eterno fouled Trauma II to beat him then surprised Trauma I to win.
4) Oficial 911 & Oficial AK47 © b Canis Lupus & Eterno [IWRG IC TAG]
Lupus & Eterno got the title match by winning the previous one, only Eterno hurt his foot in hte process and was not 100%. Everyone bled. Oficials kept their titles (3rd Defense) and mask/hair challenges were made and accepted.
5) Chicano, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000 Jr. b Hijo De Dos Caras, Toscano, Veneno
Rudos took 1/3. Veneno went on his mad karate chopping spree, only Toscano was upset when Veneno hit him. Veneno responded by hitting Toscano with a chair to set up the rudo win. Mascara 2000 invited Veneno to the rudo side, but Veneno gave no answer.
I’m told IWRG is still airing on AYM (at random times), but just not on the LAS version of the channel I get. As noted in yesterday’s comments, it was a TV angle that set up Hip Hop Man/Impossible.
Checking the inactive logs: Reapper/Psicosis II hasn’t been around CMLL since August. He’s still listed as working indy shows but I wonder if that’s how Morphosis ended up working a semimain yesterday. Espiritu Maligno’s title match loss to Electrico appears to be his final match in Puebla for now. He hasn’t been on CMLL card since but did pop up on an Arena Coliseo San Ramon show earlier this month. Silueta and Molotov also seem to be missing. Silueta’s received messages on Twitter hoping she recovers from an injury, so that’s probably that, but no idea on Molotov.
Black Terry Jr. has highlights of the outside the ring fights from last afternoon’s ChilangaMask’s show.
Nino Hamburguesa & Fenix beat Pentagon Jr. & Mamba on Saturday. Arez was somehow referee, and was dumbly still messing with Pentagon.
Segunda Caida reviews Cavernario matches in 2013.
Toxin Boy fractured fingers in his match on the ChilangaMask show doing something kind of dumb.
The Puebla Lucha Libre Expo shows seem to have drawn well.
Lucha Libre in Japan
11/24 NJPW: Naito [O] & Sombra b Hiroshi Tanahashi & Capitan New Japan [X]
Not a tournament match. Tanahashi’s partner Yoshitatsu is out of the tournament due to a neck injury. It was originally reported Taguchi would just replace Yoshitatsu, but NJPW is now declaring all the matches forfeits instead. Sombra & Naito picked up their forfeit win here and have clinched Not Last with four points! Sombra’s a Cholo like 3-0 on this tour (including one other non-tournament match), his next match is on Thursday versus the ROH team.
Flamita’s trios match from the 11/23 Dragon Gate show is up on DailyMotion.
