recap

taped 2013-02-05 @ Arena Mexico

Pegasso is smooth.

Höruz & Robin vs Guerrero Negro Jr. & Herodes Jr.: This was a chore to watch. A match that wasn’t much good and didn’t even have wacky energy to make up for it. Guerrero Negro Jr. seems like a guy who might be better in a smaller building – though it’s not really the size, but the distance – because he’s playing to people standing right outside the ring and most of them are a bit farther away than that. Robin seemed to have a personality at one point, but now just is a shorter than average guy who seems not in the level of most of the guys here. The closest thing to a personality is his frequent checks off his head, which I hope was because his mask wasn’t fitting right and not a sign of an injury.

Bobby Zavala discovers wrestling is fake

Leono, Metálico, Pegasso vs Bobby Zavala, Cholo, Disturbio: A second opener. A second opener that wasn’t good and the crowd didn’t much care. I guess Leono is going to be feuding with Zavala & Disturbio (who still need a team name) for the next three years, so he probably should recruit a partner. Cholo is slow and his timing isn’t great, but he overall came off fine in this mix.

No.

Dalis la Caribeña, Estrellita, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit: this feud just won’t end and go away. It’s not like it’s getting better, it’s going the other way, and going strongly the other way depending on who’s involved. Dalys may be here just to make Estrellita look better. No one seems to be getting better, ever; with the possible exceptions of Silueta & Zeuxis, who were elsewhere for a long time, every debuted woman from the last few years is just about the same as when they came in. Some are worse. That’s a problem beyond just the trainers. Having many matches should cause you to be better, but Dalys has been resistant to that concept. This match was boring and finish was ridiculous.

Negro Casas is the best

Blue Panther, La Máscara, Super Porky vs Averno, Ephesto, Negro Casas: match was amusing for Panther and Negro holding each other in submissions long after the last match ended with a DQ on the same spot. Negro Casas and Blue Panther seem like two guys who would be very happy doing a rematch sometime this year. Second fall was pretty fun, the rest was very usual.

Sombra is a meanie.

La Sombra vs Mr. Niebla: longer form version of the Atlantis/Mr. Niebla match, though longer doesn’t always mean better. There was some good stuff in the extra time, and there was a lot of doing the same singles match spots which happen in every match. Niebla did the Nieblasault, can’t blame him too much, but it feels like a pattern of less conclusive finishes and empty challenges in main events of late and this was one of them.
