05/06 AAA TV Results (Merida)

AAA TV (SUN) 05/06/2012 Poliforum Zamna de Merida [AAA]
1) Fabi Apache, Mascarita Dorada, Octagoncito b Mini Histeria, Mini Psicosis, Sexy Star
Dorada pinned Octagoncito again. Both Dorada & Fabi challenged Psicosis & Sexy. Joaquin Roldan came to the ring and made both matches, though Fabi & Sexi will part of a four way with two yet to be announced women.
2) Daga & Fenix DCOR Cuervo & Ozz
moved to the opener. Piero is ref. Cuervo, inexplicably, seems to be at the center of the Mari/Fabi break up; Mari thinks Fabi was paying attention to Cuervo in the lumberjack match where they lost as a team. Dives led to a double count out. Fabi was out here checking on him after this match.
3) Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown b Halloween, Héctor Garza, Psicosis
Nicho returned to the Psicosis name. Psycho Circus still beat Perros.
4) Abyss & Chessman b Joe Lider & Juventud Guerrera [AAA TAG]
Abyss & Chessman, making their first appearance as a team in five months, kept the titles. Psicosis ran in to attack Lider to cost him the match, then tied him to the ripes and cut him open with a folding knife.
5) Cibernético & Dr. Wagner Jr. b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & LA Park
Jeff Jarrett was said to be in Leon, but LA Park replaced him in the match and there’s no mention of Jarrett on this taping. This was LA Park’s first AAA match since Rey de Reyes. Perro & Park did not get along, fighting each other more than the opposition. Wagner fought both rudos while Cibernetico just kind of hung out. Perros ran down to attack Park. Wagner made the save, but Park still wants no friends. Ozz & Cuervo came out to help Cibernetico (???), and Lider attacked Psicosis again.

Air Date: looking like 05/27 if Leon is a double taping (and something has to be)

Attendance guess is about 45%; they herded people around to make it look better on TV, but the upper level had a vast empty area on the other side, which makes it look worse than it actually was. That picture should not be considered representative of the entire audience size. It had to be disappointing but it wasn’t quite that bad.

Next taping is 05/19 in Chilpancingo, and they’ve announced 06/01 in Veracruz that. Still no official date/location for TripleMania, but Dorian did confirm on Twitter today that it would be pushed back a month (to July) as had been rumored. The minis and women’s title matches here seem like they should be on TripleMania, but that was not explicitly said (and they might be better off on a TV taping where they could get some time.)

Oficial AK-47 wins IWRG title, Volador in trouble, Axel/Santo

11) Negro Navarro & Trauma I b Bestia 666 & Damián 666 [IWRG IC TAG]
FdT took the first, Navarros took the second. Trauma I defeated Bestia. Ref went down, and Super Nova ran in to attack Trauma I, leaving him easy picking for Damian. Negro defeated Bestia to keep the titles.

CMLL (SUN) 05/06/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [El Occidental]
5) Ephesto & Mephisto b Ángel de Oro & Máscara Dorada
Rudos took 1/3. Mephisto pinned Dorada and challenged for Dorada’s title.

Said to be a poor turnout.

Friday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscriber only) had this to say about Volador Jr.

Volador Jr. was reprimanded by management for being too aggressive and working too careless in a recent trios match main event with Prince Devitt. Devitt came in and was described as very professional in the ring, while Volador Jr. who he was programmed with and who lost was asked to and did lose the NWA middleweight title, was said to have been, perhaps out of jealousy, too stiff. A key move was a springboard dropkick to the back that Devitt had no idea was coming and could have hurt him, and there were others as well.

I’m thinking the belt shot that cut Devitt in the head might have one of the others. No one – not Devitt or the TV people – seemed to know that one was coming until Volador did it, and it’s not a bit CMLL usually does. The best parts of the Volador/Devitt feud was Volador being more aggressive and jerkish than usual, but that sort of thing should not extend to unexpectedly hurting the opposition. NJPW probably already had picked their guy for the Best of Super Juniors, but this would seem to hurt Volador’s chances of being used in NJPW (and in CMLL!) going forward.

That’s definitively not the only time he’s done that dropkick. Volador did the same one to back of Maya’s head back during the national trios feud, and it looked hellacious then too. You’re more likely to be called on doing these sort of things when you’re doing them to the special guest wrestler.

There’s a message board post claiming Axxel won the rights to the name Nieto del Santo, forcing the son of Hijo del Santo to use Santo Jr. The son has been introduced as Santo Jr., but I haven’t seen it confirmed elsewhere that this is why.

Rob has highlights of 04/17/12 CMLL C3.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Angel de Oro’s schedule in the Best of Super Juniors has been announced. He’s in Block A.
05/27: vs Taichi
05/30: vs Gedo
05/31: vs Jushin Liger
06/01: vs Pac
06/03: vs Prince Devitt
06/05: vs BUSHI
06/06: vs Rocky Romero
06/07: vs KUSHIDA

06/09 is the last day of the blocks, and Oro is off that day. 06/10 is the final. NJPW has a PPV on 06/16, and it’s possible he could stick around for that.

If Angel de Oro is going to get a win, it’s probably going to happen in May. Every matchup is a new one for him; he teamed with Lyger only one and never faced him, never faced Taichi, and Romero was about to leave when Oro debuted.
