Other News

The King, who also wrestled as Black Charly, passed away last month. He was another Laguna born wrestler who made it to the  UWA wrestler in the early 1990s

Alebrije/Kraneo says Cuije is still going to be with him, but you’ll have to be there Sunday to find out his new look & name.

Porra Fresa begins it’s look back at 2011 with the foreigners and the women. The foreigner who appeared most in Arena Puebla was Yoshihashi, and the woman was Luna Magica. That seems a bit mean.

DTU & IWL will run a combo show on 02/18. Press conference on Wednesday to announce foreign talent.

Lucha Libe in Japan

01/17 AJPW: Ozz (O), Cuervo, Black Bushi b Kenzo Suzuki, Kaz Hayashi, Hiroshi Yamato [X]

NJPW is hosting a fan club party with CMLL and NJPW wrestlersd when they’re in for the tour. Just the CMLL rudos – Mephisto, Volador, Okumura and Misterioso – so the tecnicos must be hanging out with other people.

Veneno returns to SMASH on their02/19 show, teaming with Kenzo Suzuki. They never teamed in Japan, but were on opposite sides of Mexico vs Japan matches when the Dragon Gate guys were coming into IWRG (and teasing Dragon Gate Mexico.)

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/13/2012 Arena Mexico

1) Aereo & Pequeño Halcón vs Mercurio & Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Hombre Bala Jr. vs Disturbio [lightning]
3) Dalis la Caribeña, Dark Angel, Marcela vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis
4) Stuka Jr., Titán, Triton vs Euforia, Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura
5) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Máscara Dorada vs Mr. Águila, Psicosis, Volador Jr.

Really strong lineup. This is the first time the Golden Generacion trios has teamed in Arena Mexico since they lost the titles, and versus a fun rudo team. Psicosis appears to be totally correct about not having to change his name.

Semimain matches the national champs versus the world champs in what should also be pretty good.

Special is a rematch from this past week, likely focusing more on Stuka & Euforia.

Even the women’s match is pretty strong. It and the champs versus champ match should air on Fox, while the other two would normally be Televisa/Galavision matches.

Lightning match is likely a followup to Hombre Bala’s win, but it’s also the biggest chance for Disturbio yet (outside of first round Gran Alternativa exists.)

Minis are just the low men on the totem pole. They have something in Mercurio. I don’t know what they do with it, but he should be a rudo of note in the next couple of years.

01/07-08 lucha times

box

CMLL is back on in the US, but it still should be in rerun. Same with AAA. The regional show doesn’t appear on any schedule I’ve seen this week.

52MX: Easiest call in some time: the mask match, the title match.

LATV: a rerun

CMLL-Main/Gala: more “best off”

AAA-main: either more best of, or the start of Guerra de Titanes.

FOX: Delta/Maya/Metro vs Ephesto/Escorpion/Okumura, Marco/Maximo/Rush vs Aguila/Volador/Olimpico

C3: Dragon Rojo vs Angel de Oro

Mega6: Fantasma/Maximo/Rush vs Niebla/Negro/Polvora

Perros: whatever’s left from the Plan Sexenal show?

Puebla: La Mascara vs Volador Jr.

ACM: probably a rerun

IWRG: they’re airing out of order, so no telling. They were taping tonight’s show, but the turnaround is not that fast.

Mascara stays champ, Niebla/Maximo, Morphosis/Kraneo/Psicosis, Dick Togo

CMLL (MON) 01/02/2012 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Espiritu Maligno, Policeman, Siki Ozama Jr. b Blue Center, Milenium, Stigma
Rudos take 2/3.
2) Lluvia, Luna Mágica, Marcela b La Seductora, Tiffany, Zeuxis
Tecnicas take 1/3.
3) Diamante, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca b Ephesto, Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
Tecnicos take 2/3.
4) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush b Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Terrible
Terrible and Rush still feuding. Tecnicos take 1/3.
5) La Máscara b Volador Jr. [NWA MIDDLE]
Volador turned down a Mascara handshake to start the match. Volador took the first with a backracker, Mascara took the second with the campana, and again in the third after a long great battle.

CMLL (TUE) 01/03/2012 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Èvola & Metalik b Esfinge & Virgo
2) Pequeño Nitro & Pequeño Warrior b Meteoro & Último Dragoncito
straight falls
3) Fuego b Malefico
one fall match
4) Olímpico & Psicosis b Metro & Sangre Azteca
Rudos took 2/3, after Metro hit Sangre Azteca by mistake. Sangre and Psicosis feuded.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Rush b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Pólvora
Zacarias was with the rudos. Rudos took 1/3, Niebla sneaking in a foul on Maximo to set up next week’s match.

Other News

CMLL set out a press release confirming the Histeria/Alebrije to Morphosis/Kraneo name changes. There’s a picture at the link; Kraneo is wearing a half Alebrije/half Kraneo mask. Still no mention of Cuije. The story they’re going with is these two are so dedicated to the Invasion, they’ve come up with new characters to put new energy into their work. Right. I’d assume this was also something taped for Ras de Lona, which no one will ever see (until it airs on Guerreros del Ring, maybe.)

Meanwhile, Psicosis say he won’t be changing his name, because his lawsuit situation is slightly different than Alebrije & Histeria, and he’ll have his name until he retires. That seems unlikely, but we’ll go with it. Psicosis, asked about El Consejo, says those guys are making a mistake – it’s much better in CMLL than AAA and the indies. As bad as the economic situation is in CMLL right now, Psicosis feels it’s worse elsewhere, and it’s very tough being in AAA and the indies. Psicosis’ current goal is to get the trios titles back.

XMW says it’s bringing in XL (Chile) and Dick Togo (planet Earth) for it’s next show, sometime in February. That would mean either Togo is hanging around for a while, or he’s coming back in a few weeks. Hope other people use him as well.

LyC has a commercial for it’s next show, a note about today’s Olympic wrestling training, and interviews with Genocida (teaming with his retired father in the upcoming tag tournament), Mini Big Neurosis (who does not want to be a mini), and Kratoz (who says all wrestlers need to be well rounded – also, spelled his name differently than I’d seen before.)

Lucha Libre in Japan

Silueta must be headed back to REINA, because she’s on the REINA 01/15 show. She’s got a REINA IJ title defense versus “Saya”.

Lineups

AULL (SAT) 01/14/2012 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Lince X & Sol de Oriente vs Karma & Spider Boy
2) Celestial, Cósmico, Rey Cristal vs Mini Talisman, Mr. Aguilita, Pequeno Demonio
3) Chik Tormenta, Keira, Vanely vs Felina Metalica, La Vaquerita, Yuki Star
4) Daga, Eterno, Flamita vs Sádico, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Solar I vs Felino, Negro Navarro, Último Guerrero

BT Jr. mentioned this card on twitter (@BLACKTERRY) – top two matches look interesting. I really don’t know how it’s going to work when Ultimo Guerrero wants to do two 3 minutes falls to start, because Negro & Solar aren’t done with their fist bit in that time.

01/21-22 CMLL/NJPW Fantastic Mania 2012 lineups

NJPW CMLL (SAT) 01/21/2012 Korakuen Hall
***Fantastic Mania 2012 (Day 1)***
1) Danshoku Dino & Máximo vs Taichi & Taka Michinoku
2) King Fale & Tama Tonga vs Shigeo Okumura & YOSHI-HASHI
3) Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask IV vs Gedo, Jado, Misterioso Jr.
4) Hirooki Goto & Kushida vs Máscara Dorada & Rush
5) Diamante, Jushin Liger, Tetsuya Naito vs Mephisto, Shinsuke Nakamura, Yujiro Takahashi
6) Hiroshi Tanahashi & La Sombra vs Kazuchika Okada & Volador Jr.

Day 1 is primarily setup this year; they don’t seem as concerned with loading up both shows. Also, NJPW’s juniors champions (Devitt & Taguchi) are kept away from the CMLL guys for the most part. These are stand alone shows and shouldn’t be excepted to directly set up anything more CMLL/NJPW related.

NJPW is busy setting up a Tanahashi/Okada match, as you can tell from all these lineups.

The secret CHAOS/Hijos de Averno alliance still seems to be in effect.

Misterioso was supposed to face Tiger Mask in the H1N1 canceled appearance (this was when they were doing Mistico/Tiger Mask a lot), so he finally gets a hold of him here. He should fit in well with Gedo & Jado, he’s got the “‘o” already. Misterioso, Diamante and Mephisto seem mostly here just to make up the numbers (and Diamante looks to be taking direct losses both nights), but hopefully they’ll get a chance to show off a bit.

Taichi and Maximo continue their feud in the opener.

NJPW CMLL (SUN) 01/22/2012 Korakuen Hall
***Fantastic Mania 2012 (Day 2)***
1) Prince Devitt, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tama Tonga, Tiger Mask IV vs Gedo, Jado, Shigeo Okumura, YOSHI-HASHI
2) Jushin Liger & Máximo vs Misterioso Jr. & Taichi
3) Máscara Dorada vs Kushida [CMLL WELTER]
4) Hirooki Goto vs Rush
5) Diamante, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tetsuya Naito vs Kazuchika Okada, Mephisto, Shinsuke Nakamura
6) La Sombra vs Volador Jr. [NWA WELTER]

This is the interesting show. Volador and Sombra in a match seemed guaranteed once they were both announced for this show. They’re going to be all out for this one, and the only danger is trying to do too much.

Hirooki Goto versus Rush is an interesting match. Non-title points toward the finish, but Rush has a strong chance to make a name for himself in two nights. After, Goto and Rush can commiserate about failing to win the heavyweight title.

Mascara Dorada lost the CMLL Welterweight Championship to Taguchi last year. I think he’ll hold onto it this year, in what could be a good year for him in Japan.

These shows are broadcast on SamuraiTV rapidly, so they’ll be showing up thru the puroresu videos sites. You should also check out the Mask Mania blog for posts about how it’s like to be there.
