recap
Neither title match was great, but neither was a disaster.
Diamante, Fuego, Sangre Azteca vs Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi: About the usual match with these six guys, just with a lot less light. Some of the guys got more attention because of Forjando un Idolo, but Fuego seems like the guy who’s been most changed by it – I don’t remember him having such a predilection for complicated submissions before he hooked up with Blue Panther.
La Comandante & Zeuxis vs Lluvia & Luna Mágica for the REINA Tag Team Championship: Better than I thought, and was actually going really good in the first fall. Last two felt more like an ordinary tag team match that happened to have titles on the line, not as special as the first fall. Luna & Lluvia still appear to be two people randomly assigned as a tag team than as a unit, and the finish itself was kind of underwhelming, but they all acquitted themselves fine here.
Dragón Rojo Jr., Rey Escorpion, Terrible vs Ángel de Oro, Jushin Lyger, Valiente: Very abbreviated match between the two sides, but they it was a good effort for the time. Valiente about broke the post on his missed charge. Finish didn’t look great but it didn’t detract too much. Terrible is weird.
La Máscara vs Mephisto for the NWA World Middleweight Championship: this right here was the CMLL singles match I was very tired off this summer, until they were nice enough to give us all a break from it for a few months. Mascara is not an interesting enough wrestler, and is not changing his matches up around to make this many big singles matches work. Mephisto is not as interesting as Averno, at least not here, and there’s only so many times you can see Mascara kick out of a Devil’s Wings before it becomes not a big deal. CMLL has gotten over Mascara as a star to a section of the crowd, but I hope it’s a while before we get another one of these. This was the better match, but I’d more readily see a rematch of the women’s tag title match than this one.

La Máscara is just so damn boring in singles matches.
