AULL, QPPC, lineups

AULL (SAT) 09/03/2011 Arena Lopez Mateos [R de Rudo]
1) Dante, Picudo Jr., Radamantis b Karma, Tigre de Bronce, Tigre de Plata
2) Ashley, Chica Maravilla, Ludark Shaitan b Felina Metálica, Keira, Sexy Lady
3) Ronny Ventura DQ Ronny el Italiano
Ventura faked a foul to draw a DQ. These two are feuding for a hair match.
4) Angelico, Rey Kristal, Yakuza b Epitafio, Herejia, Scorpio Jr.
Rey Kristal replaced Mexico Bronco. Build for a Scorpio Jr./Angelico hair match here.
5) Chucho el Roto b Iron Love [AULL LH]
Iron took the first, Chucho el Roto took the second. Iron Love got a beer bottle in the third and was going to use it, but out ran Chucho el Roto’s son (and Iron Love’s godson, we’re told) to convince Iron Love not to use it. Chucho el Roto then won the match to keep the title, and seems to be friends with Iron Love again. Los Traumas turned up, promising to terminate both of these guys for their soap opera antics. (Traumas are supposed to be rudos.)
6) Super Crazy, Trauma I, Trauma II DQ Cerbero Maligno, Daga, Juventud Guerrera
Cerebro Maligno replaced Histeria. Team Crazy won the first, team Juvi won the second. While Crazy & Juvi fought to the top of the arena, Iron Love and Chucho el Roto together attacked Los Traumas for the DQ. Hijo de LA Park made the save.

Ronny el Italiano talks about his feud.

Other News

The Quien Pinta Para La Corona finalists from San Luis Potosi are Aeroboy, Oro Azul, Bogar Jr., Bogar Maligno, Turbo Kid, Sangre de Dragon and Reina Azteca. Aeroboy is the apparent ringer for this group, since he’s a DTU main stay. Sangre de Dragon is from Arena Queretaro. Everyone else appears based in SLP, though Reina Azteca wrestled on the recent LLF show in Arena Lopez Mateos.

CMLL’s website is now linking to El Luchador reality show. I’m very much looking forward to this.

Box Y Lucha posted video interviews with Marioneta I, Hacha Dorada, and Voltan.

Rob has video of early June ’03, early August ’03, and Juico Final (Averno/Mascara!)

PWR title match not happening in California. Maybe the next one will? I believe Lady Apache knows the itinerary
because she’ll be the one following it.

I can’t believe Pequeno Violencia is taking Demus’ side in his war with Warrior. I thought those two were friends! CMLL seems to be rapidly setting up a feud here for another September show.

2011 AAA TV Taping Schedule
Mexico: 09/18

Rob noted this was things getting back to “usual”, and that seems about right. Usual is a lot less fun. There’s not a match on this card that I’m excited to see.

Last time I can find AAA running this building was a spot show October 26, 2008, where the main event was La Parka & Octagon vs Kenzo & Zorro. This will be better than that.

I do like that AAA seems to have given up the pretense of putting Cibernetico in matches where he doesn’t actually do anything, and just hasn’t booked him on TV since Verano de Escandalo. The Bizarros matches have just been Billy and Escoria anyway, they’re simplifying things.

Semimain will feature Heavy Metal taking a disturbing amount of chair shots to the head. (So, every Heavy Metal match.)

Dr. X-Treme kept trying to stop this from being an X-treme match, but Juvi and Crazy did not care. In the end, X-Treme fouled Juvi and Crazy got the win in 14:08

IWL is posting names and times on their website, making them my favorite promotion for at least the remainder of this post. Working theory was some of this show’s matches would end up on the iPPV in place of the AAA shows, but if they’re just going to randomly turn 5 announced matches in a 11 match card here, maybe they’ll do the same in two weeks and have plenty of material.

CMLL (SUN) 09/04/2011 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Kaiser SportsLa Catedral]
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II b Bengala & Enrique Vera Jr.
1/3 for the rudos.
2) Demus 3:16, Mascarita Dorada, Shockercito DQ Astral, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior [Relevos Increíbles]
Straight falls for team Dorada. Demus did the Warrior dance to Warrior, and Warrior fouled him for the DQ (also, payback for last week.)
3) Lady Apache b AmapolaDark AngelLa SeductoraMarcelaDalis la CaribeñaGoya KongLluviaPrincesa BlancaSilueta [PWR WOMEN, #1 Contenders]
A battle royal decided teams: Apache/Angel/Seductora/Amapola/Dalys vs Lluvia/Blanca/Goya/Marcela/Silueta. Elimination went Seductora (by Silueta), Lluvia (by Dalys), Siuleta (Amapola), Dalys (Goya), Goya (Amapola & Dark Angel), Amapola (Marcela!), Dark Angel/Marcela together on a tapatia, and Blanca lost to Lady Apache. Apache is getting a rematch of the title she lost. Rosita was again spotted with Dark Angel.
4) El Alebrije, Mr. Águila, Volador Jr. b Black Warrior, Sensei, Toscano
Mr. Aguila was in for Olimpico, Sensei replaced Hijo del Fantasma. Rudos took 2/3. Alebrije and Cuije had some issues with their teammates in the first fall, but were integral to the win.
5) Hiroshi Tanahashi, Mr. Niebla, Texano b Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Máximo
Hijo del Fantasma moved up a match to replace Shocker. Rudos took 1/3, Niebla beating Maximo with his own kiss cradle.

In a post match interview, Lady Apache explained that the Sugeith/Apache title match would be held in California, and the winner would immediately go to Denver to defend the title. It would be stunning if Lady Apache didn’t just win the title back.

The Rosita situation is a bit odd, because the same time she’s hanging out Dark Angel, AAA is promoting her as appearing in their promotion (including a vignette on this week’s TV.) She doesn’t likely have a choice of which promotion she’s working for in Mexico as long as she’s working in TNA.

Other News

Dr. X-Treme told multiple Saturday that he had no work with CMLL and would not be appearing on Tuesday’s show. SuperLuchas guessed that maybe this means CMLL could make a new Dr. X. I love this idea, but not because it’s a good idea. A second Mistico (or a second Sin Cara!) is a bad idea that says people are more concerned about preserving trademarks than putting out the best show. From a business standpoint, it makes a tiny bit of sense, but it’s very cynical to anyone who actually follows the show,  and that’s depressing. A second Dr. X pretending to be first (and picking up the Fuego feud!) is an absurd ludicrous concept, which would indicate people in charge are totally insane, and insanity can be fun.

Mr. Niebla told Universal that he feels CMLL could do more with him, but he’s not concerned and will do whatever they want. Niebla is planning a 20th Anniversary show on 09/24 at Deportivo José María Morelos y Pavón, but is still working on the lineup.

Mil Mascaras, Dos Caras and Psicodelico signed a lot of autographs on Saturday, though the person introducing Mil at the panel discussion accidentally gave away his real name.

Rob has clips of 08/23/11 CMLL and lots from 2003 CMLL: Late April/Early May, Late May, Late June, Early July, Late July, the big 08/01 show, and late August. Also, two rarely seen Juvi vs Rey matches from Feb 96 and April 96.

1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Molotov b Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
Tecs took 1/3.
2) Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi b Dragon Lee, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
Rudos took 1/3.
3) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Rush b Felino, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Negro Casas
Felino was honored for 25 years in wrestling (?) before the match with a video tribute. Puma, Tiger, Princesa Blanca and Dalis were among the group part of the pre-match celebration. Negro was out there too,, of course, and Panico is visible in the pictures. Felino thanked the crowd. Mascara and Tanahashi were the captains and exchanged the first two falls (Mascara taking the first.) Blue Panther and Rush beat Felino & Negro in the third. After the match, those two tecnicos made hair match challenges to the Casas brothers.
4) Volador Jr. b Máscara Dorada [lightning]
Volador won clean via backcracker in 9 minutes.
5) Diamante b Pólvora [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
Matchups set up by a seeding battle royal. Diamante won via springboard 450, but seemed to suffer a left elbow injury.
6) La Sombra b Ángel de Oro [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
Backflip into a moonsault for the win. Angel de Oro offered a handshake before the match, but Sombra refused. Sombra offered a handshake after the match, but Angel de Oro angrily refused.
7) Rey Bucanero b Héctor Garza [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
less than a minute, Bucanero putting his feet on the ropes for the win. Garza challenged Bucanero to a hair match.
8) Mephisto b Ephesto [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
These two shook hands. Mephisto blocked the Ephesto Roll into his own cradle for the win.
9) La Sombra b Diamante [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
Brillante Bomb to advance.
10) Rey Bucanero b Mephisto [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
Bridging suplex.
11) La Sombra b Rey Bucanero [CMLL Universal, semifinal]
Sombra finally kicked out of the Bucanero Destroyer (which beat him in the last big match between the two.) Felino, who was announcing, distracted Bucanero near the end of this one. Sombra Brillante Bombed Bucanero for the win. Sombra noted to the press that he’s gotten a step further each year, and feels better prepared this year. Sombra isn’t set on facing Lyger in the final, he just wants to win this. Sombra also said he does not expect to main event the anniversary show, because he’s spent too much time in Japan to have built that sort of rivalry. Felino & Bucanero made hair match challenges again.
12) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero b Atlantis & Guerrero Maya Jr. [CMLL TAG]
This match did not start until after these shows usually end, and live reports mention people did leave before it was over. Guerrero Maya beat UG with the Mayan Sacrifice (?) and Atlantis got Dragon Rojo with a ‘rana to take the first. Champs got pins to take the second and tie it up. In the third, Atlantis eliminated UG with the Atlantida. Dragon Rojo managed to beat Maya on his own. Atlantis got Dragon Rojo in a foul again, but UG snuck in and fouled him, allowing Dragon Rojo to reverse the pin and get the win to keep the titles. UG explained that he didn’t teach Atlantis everything about being a rudo because he knew this day would come, and Dragon Rojo said the next goal was to get a mask match between Atlatnis and UG, though Delta & Maya would fall too if they got in the way.

This week’s show is the one that should’ve started at 5, they would’ve got it over at a decent hour.

Kcidis illustrates the main event finish.

It’s pretty obvious now that CMLL is setting up a multiman hair match, probably a cage match, as the actual anniversary main event. If there’s a reason they haven’t announced it, it’s because they haven’t gotten all the names making challenges yet. Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano, Felino, Negro Casas, Blue Panther, Rush, Hector Garza and Shocker are all in it based on the last two weeks, and there’s still room for guys like Toscano, Averno and even Tanahashi. (Or maybe 2 guys I haven’t listed here but become more obvious when we look at the lineups.)

Other News

Ras de Lona, taking place outside because why not, had hype for the PWR women’s cibernetico on Sunday and the Universal  tournament. Blanca took a moment to talk about the hair match challenge with Marcela, so maybe they can be added to the cage match too!

Also, they gave out the 2010 CMLL awards!
Novato: Delta
Tecnico: Sombra
Women: Amapola
Revelacion: Angel de Oro
Tag: Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero (really)
Trio: Generacion Dorada

Not sure if the other ones are to be given out (rudo is missing), or are just being skipped.

Jushin Liger is due back 09/14, which isn’t in time to be in this tournament. Also, they spelled his name “Layger”. Upon arrival, Tanahashi walked thru the airport with his belt over his shoulder, which is great, and then did his promo in English and Spanish. In other Japanese people news, they showed UG clotheslining Naito that one time about 15 times on this show.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, Alfredo’s thoughts on the WON HOF, and Ras de Lona from two weeks ago. they really need to find a way to post those a bit quicker.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Ozz & Cuervo are on AJPW’s upcoming junior heavyweight league group of shows, but not actually in the tournament. They’re instead new recruits by Kenzo Suzuki, who’s has starting an evil army of his own and is using his AAA contacts. the Dark Family just can’t help but be evil henchmen for someone. Tour goes from 09/11 to 09/25, though it’s unclear if they’re on all of the shows. They’ll miss the next two tapings at least.

Super Crazy will be in Japan around the same time, as part of Zero One’s own junior heavyweight single elimination tournament. That’s just three shows, from September 13 to 17.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 09/06/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & Starman vs Bobby Zavala & Disturbio
2) Fuego, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Dr. X, Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura
3) Princesa Blanca vs Marcela [MEX WOMEN]
4) Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Dragon Lee, Puma King, Shocker
5) Olímpico, Psicosis, Volador Jr. vs Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Rush

Dr. X (and Fuego!) Dr. X did work Sunday CMLL spots shows in northern Mexico, as an indy guy who just happened to be teaming with his old friend Nitro, and my gut feeling is someone in CMLL put him on this lineup when he’s not actually going to be on the show. He is supposed to work the Toy Museum show tomorrow, maybe he’ll clear that up.

Semimain is a rematch from last week. Still not sure why they’re using Puma King in that spot, since the idea seems to be new group Charly leader Atlantis & the top 2 Group Charly guys vs original Group Charly leader Shocker & the other two guys (which should be Dragon Lee & Metal Blanco, hanging out in the second match.)

Can Marcela find a way to come so close but not actually win a different title? We’ll find out!

CMLL (FRI) 09/09/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Sensei vs Cholo & Inquisidor
2) Metro, Sagrado, Valiente vs Euforia, Raziel, Vangelis

5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano

For what it’s worth, Ras de Lona had Atlantis & Maya in the tournament. They do this too often to be accidental.

Tanahashi is indeed getting Liger’s spot. Wish I understood that from the beginning.

Aguila and Maximo feuding to put them  in the cage makes sense (more than calling it a VIP lightning match.)

Here’s this weekend’s problem: This is going up on Friday because I couldn’t figure out when or when or how long the main shows are. Televisa (and another site I use to double check their listings) say they’re both one hours shows at 3 pm. AAA helpfully posted a preview again, but lists the start time as 2:30 pm. Here in the states, Galavision’s website says CMLL is a two hour show at 10, while my TiVo says it’s a one hour show at 6.

On screen listings seem to have the best accuracy, so I’m going with those. But I’d check to see if AAA was on a bit early.

I’ve only gotten to the minis tournament from last week, so don’t listen to me about anything. Totally swamped otherwise, and just found out I missed about 1600 video links on YouTube because I had one too many “s”‘s in retros80s90s. On the bright side, that means a ton more matches get video links.

I have plans of doing plenty of stuff (maybe another column, because the Hall of Fame comments have given me thoughts about my vote, and there’s something really obvious I’d like to write about) but we’ll see what happens.

Plan on a chat on 09/23.

————

52MX: Panther/Rush/Toscano vs Avernos + Black Warrior makes an appearance.

LATV: Second week of build towards Ruuuuuuuuuuuuush vs Mr. Aguila! Get excited! Gen11 vs Rayos Tapatios feud comes to Tuesday nights and BOMBS! Also, the returns to action of Toscano, Diamante and Lady Apache!

TF: if they follow in order, the swing match is the GDL Duo vs the Evil Kittens. That must air, got to put the announcer’s match on. Women’s match was semimain, Invasors vs Warrior (two matches in one weekend!), Fantamsa, Maximo is the main.

————-

CMLL: Another one hour show probably means Fantasma/Misterioso and TRT vs Garza/Sombra/Shocker (to set up a direction that seems already dropped, unless they are doing the cage match.)

AAA: last half of the Queretaro taping: Mixed trios, Maniacos vs Aero/Drago/Electro, and Perros vs Mesias/Lider/Zorro

FOX: Champions of Justice vs Guerreros continues here (and they clearly should be getting the title match next week, which is odd for a main event) + hat picked midcard match.

C3: Felino/Bucanero in the main event, and probably a five match show since they did stuff in the women’s tag. This is the show with the interesting relevos incredible match which apparently went well.

GDL: swing match is a women’s trios with a new girl, but the match you probably are looking for here is Virus vs Stuka for Virus’ title.

Puebla: Tanahashi’s return plays background to UG/Atlantis issues.

ACM: Antifaz/Hator/Heddi vs Anibal/Ninja/Purpura. There are some guys in that match I have strong feelings about.

PdM: the Perros/XPW main event aired this past Thursday (and is already on YouTube, links in the db), and they teased X-Treme/Peligro for next week. Possibly the minis match to pair with it.

IWRG: they’re been airing only the top 3 since the judging/time limit idea was abruptly dropped, expect the same again.
