CMLL National Parajes Increíbles Tournament

On this week’s CMLL TV show, they announced an upcoming region based tag team tournament. (Note Dr. Lucha called this about three week ago, in what seemed to be a random guess, but I was too distracted by his league format hypothesis to make mention of the important bits.) Teams announced, via polloxxxcuemanco @ Box Y Lucha

Guadalajara
– Atlantis & Mascara Dorada
– Rush & Texano Jr. (though Texano was actually born in DF, and is named “Texano”)
– Shocker & El Sagrado

Laguna
– Blue Panther & Misterioso Jr.
– Ephesto & Euforia
– Sombra & Dragon Rojo Jr.
– Ultimo Guerrero & Stuka Jr.

Nuevo Laredo
– Héctor Garza & Toscano
– Terrible & Volador Jr.

DF
– Mr. Niebla & Maximo
– Místico & Averno
– Hijo del Fantasma & Mephisto
– Negro Casas & La Mascara
– Ray Mendoza Jr. & Brazo de Plata
– Rey Bucanero & Valiente
– Sangre Azteca & Felino

Tournament will take place on the Friday shows of 01/22, 01/29, and 02/05. Except the usual rushed 7 matches per show.

Maybe Rush/Texano is actually meant to be DF; that’d give us an even 8/8 split between DF teams and other ones. (Probably worth noting that Mictlan is definitely hurt or gone from here if they went with Rouge over him.)

There’s also the issue of Mr. Niebla (MIA and CMLL doesn’t appear as if they’re going to bother with an explanation), but it would seem easy to be find a replacement DF wrestler on CMLL’s roster. (Randomly, I’ll pick Virus.) A Shocker missing act would be more problematic, but I guess Metatron is around.

The name says it’s parajes increíbles, but it looks like they ran out of partner teams. This seemingly gives an advantage to Shocker/Sagrado, Epehsto/Euforia, Garza/Toscano and Sangre Azteca/Felino.

Among the actual rudo/tecnico teams, there seems to be an idea to match up some rivals. Like, Villano V & Porky are probably having a hair match as a fan appreciation ‘treat’ at some point down the road, and Mistico/Averno, Terrible/Volador, Sombra/Dragon Rojo are all rivals teaming up. They could’ve done a couple more, if they had switched together Sangre Azteca/Valiente, Stuka/Euforia, and Texano/Shocker.

These teams are they way they are because they must be setting up something. If there’s not at least one new team or one new feud out of all of this, it’s a waste of time. (This is January, so that’s very possible.) Mistico remains the favorite of any tournament he’s in, but it may be a loss that’s ultimately more meaningful.

IWRG, Garza/UG, Averno/Mascara, lineups

IWRG (THU) 01/07 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (photos), The Gladiatores via Luchando Libre, Black Terry Jr. via Box Y Lucha]
1) Volaris b Halcon 2000
2) Eragon & Imperial b Comando Negro & Flama Infernal
3) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco b Brazo de Plata Jr., Brazo Jr., Brazo Metalico
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Pantera, Suicida, Zatura
5) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II b Angelico, Solar I, Ultramán Jr.

Not taped for TV, but Black Terry Jr. put up video of the main event at the Box Y Lucha link.

Brazos were about to win when Avisman used a referee distraction to pull Brazo Metalico’s mask and help his partners cheat to a win. That is quite the trio of evildoers. Brazo Metalico impressed in his debut, except for the whole getting beat part.

CMLL (FRI) 01/08 Arena Mexico [R de Rudo, Cesar]
1) Diamante & Starman b Durango Kid & Inquisidor
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Loco Max b Ángel Azteca Jr. [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, Virus b La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Valiente
5) Shocker, Toscano, Volador Jr. b Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura
6) Héctor Garza, Místico, Strong Man DQ Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

UG fouled Garza, and Garza challenged him to a heavyweight title match. Maybe it’ll work better for him if he tries it outside Arena Puebla. UG made the same point, saying Garza’s got to be him in a non-title match before he gets another shot. Atlantis replaced Mr. Niebla, who’s knee must be acting up again. (Or he violated his double secret probation.)

Interstingly, in the news blurb that went up, the tease was for Ultimo Guerrero vs STRONG MAN, not Garza. Late change of plans?

Shocker pinned Naito to win the semimain.

Fourth match heavily pushed a Mascara/Averno feud. Averno got away with a foul and a mask pull to pin him for the win.

They’ve got a clock in the arena for the lightning matches. Perhaps that means they won’t accidentally go over 10 minutes now? (Or it’ll be funnier when they do.)

Mini Olimpico replace Tzuki.

Inquisidor was strechered out after the opener.

Estrellas del Ring interviews Perro Aguayo Jr. about the deal with Santo. The 01/31 show is back at Sala de Armas de la Magdalena, and Perro says there will be no titles or hairs on the line, but they are talking about Perro’s hair vs Santo’s mask at some point. The interview was part of a trip to the hospital to visit sick children.

AAA has a very open and honest interview with Marco Corleone. Maybe it’s a bit too honest for AAA’s website when the first answer is “maybe I’ll go back to the WWE someday”, but that just means it’s a better read for me. Marco discusses why he think he’s done better than other US guys brought in to Mexico lately, and Jack Evans vs Marco’s Carpet.

Cesar says the new Mexican Trios champs are CMLL’s first bad decision of the year. And it only took them six days!

DJ Spectro looks back at Hulk Hogan in El Toreo, and an old Box y Lucha about real and fake brothers.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at the Cowboys of 1981 (Negro Navarro instead of Silver King) and Angel Blanco unmasked.

AAA the Movie will be 90 minutes long. On the website, Konnan hypes up the movie.

IWRG (SUN) 01/10 Arena Naucalpan
1) Ángel de la Noche & Guizmo vs Guerrero 2000 & Keshin Black
2) Dinamic Black & Imperial vs Alan Extreme & Comando Negro
3) Chico Che, Eragon, Hijo del Pantera vs El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco, Masada
4) Bushi vs Dr. Cerebro [IWRG IC Light]
5) El Alebrije, el Hijo del Canek, Pantera vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Pirata Morgan

Bushi’s Last Stand? I dunno, I just like saying that. Odd that Avisman & Gringo Loco were the last guys teased to get a shot and it’s Dr. Cerebro who’s getting it.

CMLL (TUE) 01/12 Arena Coliseo
1) Astro Boy & Bengala vs Cholo & Ramstein
2) Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Durango Kid, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel de Plata, Fuego, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo
4) Sagrado, Shocker, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero
5) Héctor Garza, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Felino, Naito, Negro Casas

Looks like they’ve might moved these back to Arena Coliseo full time, as was the rumor a couple months ago. Naito seems to be taking Mr. Niebla’s spot this week.

CMLL (FRI) 01/15 Arena Mexico
1) Starman & Tigre Blanco vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Último Dragoncito vs Tzuki, Shockercito, Fantasy, Pierrothito, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Nitro [cibernetico]
3) Ángel de Plata vs Raciel [lightning]
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Metro vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura
5) Brazo de Plata, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Vangelis
6) Héctor Garza vs Último Guerrero

Hooray for random ciberneticos. Lightning match sounds good. After that, I’m not so sure. No Averno/Mascara followup. (No new trios champions teaming up either.)

CMLL (SUN) 01/17 Arena Coliseo
1) Principe & Trueno vs Cholo & Disturbio
2) Delta, Leono, Metatrón vs Apocalipsis, Durango Kid, Inquisidor
3) Ángel de Oro, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado vs Felino, Naito, Negro Casas
5) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Metatron seems to be sticking around.

2009 Lucha Libre Win/Loss Record

As an annual tradition, I’ve got some stats from the win/loss lucha libre stats from the lucha libre database. You can find this year’s and last years under the records tag. You can find the prior year records by – I dunno, very careful googling? Maybe I’ll fix that a bit later.

CMLL, Perro/Santo

Today’s Arena Mexico show is hyped in ESTO as the return of Strong Man to Arena Mexico. He hasn’t been there in about four weeks.

Perro Aguayo’s Perros del Mal announced a partnership with El Hijo del Santo’s Todo X El Todos promotion yesterday. SuperLuchas has the full press release, with the first combo show on 01/31. The idea is they’ll combine their two talent rosters, and hopefully be able to run some shows. Perros del Mal are savvy enough to mention their next show in the press release:

Perros (SUN) 01/17 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Skayde vs Carta Brava
2) Cósmico vs Mini Talisman
3) Celestial & Turbo vs Black Thunder & Mr. Aguilita
4) el Ángel & Nova vs Veneno & X-Fly
5) Charly Manson, Groon XXX, Oriental vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween

As for Santo/Perro, wait and see. The Perros weren’t much more successful when Cibernetico was around. Santo (and Blue Demon, also mentioned as being part of this) are bigger stars, but both haven’t been successful on their own on getting local promoters to use them the past year, or to get on TV. Santo notes he didn’t wrestle in Mexico City all of last year as a reason for making this deal, but it’s not like the Perros are the people you go to run to more.

Maybe I’m not giving this story enough credit and it’ll seem a much bigger deal down the road. Right now, it’s two guys who haven’t been able to get a regular schedule on their own coming together, but there’s no guarantee that coming together will actually get them closer to their goals.

The 01/31 show won’t be back at this building. Ovaciones says a new female promotion will be starting here on that day.

Konnan and La Parka were on a talk show, talking about AAA: Sin Limite en el Tiempo (the movie)

CMLL’s twitter says Ultimo Guerrero vs Villano V will air tomorrow on the Best of 2009 show.

Octagon served the remainder of the 20 hours left on his DUI sentence earlier this week.

Des de Ringside has the local Lucha Libre awards for Merida, and an interview with local wrestler Lob Warrior.

It’s time for the annual Torreon begins licensing wrestlers for the year article. Which means we’re only about six weeks away from the annual “no one in Torreon has bothered to get a license” article! So far, out of the 140 local wrestlers, 6 have gotten their license. A strong 4%!

Kcidis has Poder Mexica not getting their crowns.

RFC has his 2009 big national stories link is fixed!

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and Slammin’ Stan Episode #22.

The El Mistico twitter account is a fake, right? Someone at CMLL should probably file a complaint about impersonation, because he’s presenting himself as the real deal. (And if he is the real deal, maybe CMLL’s twitter account can confirm that?)

New trios champs, Guadalajara, AAA movie

new champs/Fuego en el Ring
new champs/Fuego en el Ring

CMLL (WED) 01/06 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones (PDF), ESTO, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Bengala & Principe b Disturbio & Ramstein
2) Molotov, Sensei, Trueno b Apocalipsis, Artillero, Súper Comando
3) Ángel de Plata, Delta, Fuego DQ Dr. X, Nitro, Pólvora
4) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca [MEX TRIOS]
5) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Místico b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Dorada, Metro and Stuka become the 29th champions. This is the first title Metro’s won, and the biggest Stuka has won (no offense to the Arena Coliseo Tag Team titles.) Tecnicos had combo masks for the match. A quartet with Fuego would be a pretty fun group.

Otherwise, everything here (and in Guadalajara) was what you’d expect for Kid’s Days shows. No word on what the DQ was for in the tercera; only Ovaciones even mentions it.

CMLL (WED) 01/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Relampago Azul b In Memoria
2) Angelo & Idolo b Acertijo & Infierno
3) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Ángel del Mal & Ráfaga
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Rouge, Valiente b Exterminador, Nosferatu, Shigeo Okumura
5) Máximo & Strong Man b Euforia & Negro Casas

No Mr. Niebla, so Euforia moved up and Exterminador took his place.

GALLI is running a benefit show for injured wrestler Samuari this Saturday.

Mistico would like to face Averno, Mr. Niebla and Ultimo Guerrero in mask matches this year. He also has no idea what this Nueva Era is supposed to be.

EAW video has turned up – as a one minute story on Terra TV.

AAA’s movie has it’s own website @ animaestudios.com/aaa.

Meanwhile, a website hyping the video game says it’ll now be out in June. Quietly, and somewhat unsuccessfully, they’ve changed the name from Heroes del Ring 2010 to Heroes del Ring 2011 on their website.

Casandro tells SuperLuchas that he’s headed back to Europe (Belgium specifically) next month with Hijo del Santo.

The Gladiatores has a video interview with a soft spoken El Hijo del Signo.

RFC has his Monterrey year end awards.

Slam reviews the La Lucha restaurant in New York.

Cronicas Y Leyendas looks back at Black Magic vs Haku and Mascara Magica unmasking himself.

01/09-11 Lucha Times

box. Switched some colors around, added IWRG on TVC Deportes. Because, why not. IWRG is on my good side at the moment.

AAA: Part 2 of Guerra de Titanes. Listed as 2h30m show, despite seemingly only having 3 matches. According to the listings on Galavision’s site, it’s a 3h30m show on Sunday. That can’t be right; the Geneva convention expressly forbids such acts.

52MX: Felino/Dorada, which I’ll gladly trade instead of seeing Shocker/Niebla a couple weeks ago. I’ve got the segunda listed for this one, but that may be wrong. Check down on the FOX blurb.

IWRG on TF: assuming they’re out of the best ofs, this’ll have a all second generation semimain and a grab bag main evnet.

—-

CMLL: Best of. They weren’t too specific about what they meant by that, and I’m scared to read minds.

AAA: Didn’t hear anything about this show last week, but I presume it was Best of. This should be week 2 of that.

CMLL-FOX: Three weeks after this site redesign, they finally got the TV listings back on the TV network’s site. There’s still something missing – there’s no Lucha Libre listed for this weekend. It’s on next week’s schedule (a rerun on Monday, a new show on Sunday), but I guess it’s just bumped this week? Maybe that’ll mean 52MX ends up with the top 2 matches, but it’s no sure thing.

C3: Dia de Reyes should make for a good crowd, and Mistico/Porky in the main event should give them the match they want to see (or at least CMLL thinks they want to see.) Semimain is finals of the trios tournament.

Monterrey: Furor/Voltaje, a match so bad, they had to do the rematch.

IWRG-TVC: Not sure about the lag here – top 2 from tomorrow’s show, maybe?
