First Trios finalist, Garza/Atlantis, Santo/Demon/Misterio

CMLL (TUE) 12/22 Arena Mexico [Cesar, ESTO]
1) Cholo & Ramstein b Principe & Súper Camaleón
2) Leono, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Apocalipsis, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo [MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal]
4) Euforia, Pólvora, Virus b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata [MEX TRIOS, quarterfinal]
5) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Euforia, Pólvora, Virus [MEX TRIOS, semifinal]
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Shocker, Toscano DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Tecnicos won the first fall, and the rudos fouled Shocker in the second. Rough holiday season for Shocker.

The team that had never teamed before and has nothing in particular in common won the tournament. CMLL! They go onto face whoever is in next week’s bracket, and hope to join such prestigious units as Maximo, Texano & Sagrado, and Safari, Olimpico and Mr. Niebla. (I still think, relative to other recent holders of these titles, Poder Mexica was actually a successful trio. Which says a lot more about how these titles have been used than Poder Mexica.)

Cholo won with the Cholo Clutch. Cholo has a finish?

CMLL (TUE) 12/22 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Meteoro & Virgo b Katana & Skaxy
2) Ebola & Exterminador b Hierro & Relampago Azul
3) Asesino Negro & Infierno b Drago & Ráfaga
4) Fuego, Máximo, Volador Jr. b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza b Atlantis

Despite the referee helping Atlantis, Hector still took the main event. Semimain sounds Maximo-rific.

I finally understand Sunday’s IWRG main event after reading The Gladiatores recap of the show. It was unannounced father/son six way battle. All the sons would started together, and the fathers would take their son’s place when they were eliminated.

Eliminations went
1) Hijo del Pantera (nice debut!)
2) Exodia
3) Olimpico – got injured on a dive and had to be taken out
4) Mascara Ano 200 0 Jr.
5) Trauma I
6) Hijo del Pirata Morgan
7) Hijo del Canek
8) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.
9) Pantera
10) Negro Navaro
11) Pirata Morgan – only after the Canek/Pirata kids fought again, and perhaps with some illegalness

This seems to be setting up Pirata vs Canek in a title match, not a swell idea. Honestly, it’s Pirata Morgan who didn’t look so good on the IWRG TV I’ve seen (though he was facing Porky.)

The Gladiatores also have a report from the first Expo Mascaras.

CMLL’s Twitter says Camorra will be out two months, after getting hurt on Friday.

A friend of Incognito’s posted his new WWE contract on Box y Lucha. He’s going to FCW. Lesson one of being a success in WWE: do not have people take pictures of your contract for message boards (or magazines.) Hope he does well.

I had it wrong yesterday; Perros del Mal will be on TVC Deportes on Saturday, but it’s the Arena Neza show, not the one from the Acapulco.

9News Denver talks to the local lucha libre promotion.

DJ Spectro has his best rudo of 2009 and another toreno de la muerte.

Estrellas del Ring looks back at the year in IWRG and the year in DTU. LuchaMania’s forum has the year in LLU. AAA starts it’s look back at 2009 in January, which I guess makes the most sense.

Mask Mania celebrates Christmas Eve with a combo Nitro, Dr. X and Sangre Azteca mask.

Kcidis has a great Hijo del Fantasma/Sangre Azteca cartoon.

Ras de Lona #77 has interviews with the stars of the 2009. I swear, I had no idea what Valiente was doing on this show there until they showed the footage of him winning the middleweight title. Just a blip in my mind.

SPARTAN (SUN) 12/27 Auditorio Municipal de Tampico [SuperLuchas]
1) King Boy & Octagoncito vs Payasito Diabolico & Piratita Morgan
2) Mercurio & Oro Negro vs Loco Castillo & Redentor
3) Huracan Ramriez Jr. & Ultramán Jr. vs Cien Caras Jr. & Super Parka
4) Blue Demon Jr. vs El Hijo Del Santo, Hijo de Rey Misterio [NWA HEAVY]

Poster actually lists the match as for the NWA Light Heavyweight Championship, which is Texano’s title. Or maybe it’s one of the other guys has a Light Heavyweight title that’s actually being defended here? Santo has welterweight titles, but maybe Hijo del Rey has a random title that they’re confusing here.

the top 6 stories of the last two weeks

AAA held it’s last major show of the year, Guerra de Titanes Mesias finally won back the AAA Heavyweight Championship from Dr. Wagner Jr., Konnan and the Legion destroyed Cibernetico (again) in a street fight, and Sexi Star upset Fabi Apache to save her mask and take Fabi’s hair. Well…

Fabi Apache didn’t actually get her hair cut – (slow two weeks) Fabi got her hair cut in front of the live crowd in Madero, with the idea she was going backstage to get it shaved. Two days later, Fabi was wrestling in Guadalajara wearing a cap, which came off during the match to reveal a normal looking short hair cut. AAA pretends none of this ever occurred.

In other matches at a successful Guadalajara Lucha Libre Festival, Mistico won a random title, and Super Muneco & Axxel beat two Payasos.

AAA debuted new version of the Vipers; in one of the few notable occurrences of AAA’s last taping of the year, AAA showed off a new Psicosis and a new Histeria and added new character Amnesia (along with already existing Black Abyss.) Psicosis is strongly suspected to be indy wrestler Toxico, and his occasional partner Paranoiko is likely one of the other two. The new Vipers immediately got into a feud with the still undefeated Psycho Circus – perhaps they might be the ones to end the streak.

Rey Bucanero returned to Arena Mexico, wrestling his first match since May. Bucanero needed knee ligament work, attributed to damage done in his last match (a title match versus Ephesto; that feud hasn’t been brought up since his return.)

CMLL vacates the Mexican National Trios Titles, due to Black Warrior disappearing off the face of the earth. CMLL listed a tournament for the titles, but didn’t bother to explain what was going on for about three days.

50 year old lucha libre Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca closed down. The shows weren’t drawing enough for the promoter, who sold the building to a religious group.

Special Recognition: Strong Man pulls a bus

Other notes: Perros del Mal had a show in Acapulco, taped for TVC Deportes…Charly Manson defended the Mexican Heavyweight championship for the first time in a few years…Mistico, Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., and Fuego successfully defend their titles…Captian Muerte and Pierko el Boricua lose their masks,

AAA #913 (11/21)

taped at Domo de la Feria de Leon on 10/19/2009

Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Decnnis & Extreme Tiger – I’ve got no problem with this feud, except the part where Hijo de Tirantes has started to go hyper annoying about the rudo bits again. This show aired not so long after the Konnan F4 interview where he asked those fans to check on AAA because it’s changed. This match woudl’ve convinced no one of that fact…

Mascarita Divina, Mini Charly Manson, Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria, Mini Psicosis – and what’s really unfortuante is most weeks, this would be the opener, and this was SUPERB. AAA MOTYC stuff, right up there with Mesias/Wagner (and another match that I’m forgetting?)

Marco Corleone, Pimpinela Escarlata, Súper Fly vs Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana – just an OK. It’s weird that every match has to be back and forth – if there was ever a match to be a squash

Fabi Apache & Mari Apache vs Jennifer Blake & Rain – really didn’t get much time, didn’t really see a need for more time. Rain is OK, Blade’s not really working at this point

El Mesías, Jack Evans, La Parka Jr. vs Cibernético, Kenzo Suzuki, Zorro – exactly the match you think it’d be if Hijo de Tirantes is ref.

Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King, Último Gladiador vs Alex Koslov, Chessman, Konnan, Teddy Hart & part 2 – this was actually pretty close to a squash, come to think of it. It was also 20 minutes, which seemed about 3 times longer than it needed.

Perros, IWRG, Toryumon, Guadalajara, Puebla

Perros (SAT) 12/19 Unidad Deportiva Acapulco [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Black Spirit & Turbo b Black Thunder & Skayde
2) Leo, Riveiro, Súper Nova b Scorpio, Veneno, X-Fly
3) el Ángel, Gran Alebrije, Oriental b Histeria Xtreme, Mr. Águila, Psicosis Xtreme
4) Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween b Charly Manson, Hijo del Lizmark, LA Park

X-Fly ran in the main event, attacking Charly to set up Damian’s pin. This is to set up a Charly vs X-Fly match, which will not draw as much as Heroes en Inmortales did, I predict.

This show was taped, and will air…on TVC Deportes. Which is a perfectly fine station (it works for Crazy Boy), and probably would’ve been better than not being on the air much for the last year, but a couple steps lower than what seemed to be originally proclaimed here.

Not sure what happened to the minis match.

IWRG (SUN) 12/20 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. (photos), Black Terry Jr. (results)]
1) Guizmo b Comando Negro
2) Maldito Jr. & Samoth b Alan Extreme & Miss Gaviota
3) Black Terry, Trauma I, Veneno b Angelico, Bushi, Freelance
4) Canek b Pirata Morgan, Negro Navarro, Máscara Año 2000, Olímpico, Pantera

Olimpico got hurt on a dive in the main event. This will all air two Saturday’s from now, but you can see the openers over at Black Terry Jr.’s YouTube channel.

Toryumon (SUN) 12/20 Sala de Armas de Ciudad Deportiva [The Gladiatores via Luchando Libre]
1) Bizarro & Daga b Eterno & Sangre Latina
2) Lluvia & Marcela b Amapola & La Nazi
3) Trauma II b Hijo de Medico Asesino, Hijo del Signo, Ulises Jr., Hijo de Solar, Rolling Jr., Astro Boy II, Junya Hiratsuka [Young Dragon Cup]
4) Brazo de Oro, Solar I, Starman b Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Veneno
5) Juventud Guerrera b Angelico [NWE CRUISER]

Unlike previous years, Young Dragons Cup was a single cibernetico. More photos here.

CMLL (SUN) 12/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Javier Cruz Jr. b Anguila
2) Nube Roja b In Memoria
3) Angelo & Idolo b Acertijo & Mr. Trueno
4) Astaroth & Neutrón b León Blanco & Rey Trueno
5) Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata b Máscara Mágica & Ráfaga
6) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Dragon Rojo Jr., Mephisto

Mephisto yanked off Volador’s mask. Maybe they’ll mix it up here and do Mephisto/Volador instead of Averno/Volador. The most slight of all possible changes. Ephesto missed the show, which caused Dragon Rojo to work the main event and Rafaga to take his place in the semimain.

CMLL (MON) 12/21 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Ares, Barbaro I, Espiritu Maligno b Blue Center, King Jaguar, Milenium
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman, Tony Rivera b Artillero, Durango Kid, Súper Comando
3) Metro, Rouge, Stuka Jr. b Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
4) Hijo del Fantasma b Sangre Azteca [CMLL MIDDLE]
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b La Máscara, Místico, Volador Jr.

In the main, Mr. Niebla took the ref, and Felino and Negro fouled Mistico & Volador for the win. Title match saw Sangre win the first, but Fantasma take the last two, finishing the match with a bridging back suplex. Need to get an updated count of how many consecutive title matches they’ve gone now without a change; seems to be in double digits.

Cancerberos debut here, lose. CMLL must think that works to get rudo acts over. Segunda went straight falls. Milenium was hurt in the opener.

Today, CMLL got around to explaining the deal with the Mexican Trios tournament. They announced this tournament on Saturday, so that’s four days later. Absurd, but that’s CMLL.

Anyway, it appears to be an eight team tournament. Today’s matches will be Block A, with more matches next Tuesday, and the tournament final for the Dia de Reyes 01/06 special show. No idea who the other four teams, or if the new Poder Mexica will be involved. (The website update isn’t even too clear on Black Warrior’s status – he’s just disappeared, according to them. Can’t you at least make something up?)

[poll id=”53″]

Without knowing the other side, this is a tough guess, but I would figure the Cancerberos as the favorites, with the Angels behind.

SuperLuchas points towards Fabi Apache explaining her hair on Tercera Caida. I wonder if the interviews were done before the matches (Fabi’s shown wrestling with her new hair cut), because Fabi repeatedly talks about how professional she is and her father is and her whole family is and you’d figure she’d try a different tactic if she knew everyone had seen her hair. This all reflects badly on everyone involved, but it’s 9 days later, AAA is choosing to pretend nothing out of the ordinary here and I don’t expect it to change. This is who AAA is, just like listing a tournament for titles without actually explaining the titles are vacant is who CMLL is. Maybe sometimes we forget what these companies are, and it’s nice of them to give us some reminders.

Silver King tells Fuego en el Ring that he had a three year deal offer from Japan, but decided he must stay in Mexico at the moment to settle his business there. He says Dr. Wagner III is super good, but hope he starts slow just like Dr. Wagner Jr. Silver King’s own son is studying for his legal career and will be allowed to take up the name after he finishes his education.

AAA says Chessman debuted a new look on the last TV taping. Not sure that changing looks right before a movie comes out with you in the old look is the time to be making changes, but OK.

Zorro will be interviewed on radio show Te Deas o Te Rindes at 10pm tonight.

The Gladiatores have thoughts about the FMLL shows (very good point at the end – why weren’t there any Guadalajara wrestlers on the Guadalajara based show?), Cocolores proving he’s the real owner (why does the letterhead say Pachuca and the letter say Guadalajara? Also, my new mission in life is to get an actual letter from the Box Y Lucha commission) and bios for Kapazo & Antoracha

Perros del Mal has results only for it’s opener off it’s TV taping last Friday, so far.

Leyendas y Cronicas writes about Harley Race and Peter Maivia in Mexico.

DJ Spectro picks the best semifinalist of 2009.

Ohtani’s Jacket is disappointed by the lack of matchup mixing in Rambo/Solar vs Black Terry/Negro Navarro.

The latest edition of Dos de Tres has sections on AAA’s movie and video game. I would like to see that, though not as much the “Sexy Santa” advertised on the cover.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

IWRG has run it’s last Thursday show of the year – they’re going to be running Fridays for the next two weeks. No break, which is a bit unusual.

IWRG (FRI) 12/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dinamic Black vs Keshin Black
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Hijo del Signo & Vampiro Metálico
3) Freelance, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Negro, Arlequin Rojo
4) Angelico, Bushi, Ultramán Jr. vs Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Traumas appear to be rudos on the weekdays and tecnicos on the weekends. I can identify with that.

This is try #2 for the Cerebro Terribles at these titles. The last chance? Last Christmas.

IWRG (SUN) 12/27 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dragon Fly vs Keshin Black
2) Dinamic Black & Imperial vs Alan Extreme & Hijo del Signo
3) Diva Salvaje, Jack, Maldito Jr. vs Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Negro, Arlequin Rojo
4) Eragon, Exodia, Freelance vs Gringo Loco, Maldito Jr., Samoth
5) Angelico, Suicida, Zatura vs Trauma I, Trauma II, Veneno

Gringo Loco on Teleformula! My money is well spent.

IWRG (FRI) 01/01 Arena Naucalpan
1) Avisman & Flama Infernal vs Eragon & Volaris
2) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Dr. Cerebro & Gringo Loco
3) Alan Extreme & Black Terry vs Keshin Black & Veneno and Comando Negro & Oficial 911 and Cerebro Negro & Hijo del Signo and Bushi & Guerrero 2000 and Chico Che & Guizmo and Freelance & Imperial [torneo]

It’s not called such, but this is basically an IWRG Gran Alternativa tournament. Should be interesting.

IWRG (SUN) 01/03 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dinamic Black vs Comando Negro
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Alan Extreme & Hijo del Signo
3) Bushi, Eragon, Jack vs Maldito Jr., Samoth, Tóxico
4) Exodia, Hijo del Pantera, Ultramán Jr. vs Pirata Morgan, Trauma I, Trauma II
5) Pantera, Scorpio Jr., Zatura vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Máscara Año 2000, Veneno

First match I’ve seen listed with Hijo del Pirata. Toxico is still listed as working here. Please note, there’s no way a two week out IWRG lineup will ever be 100% correct.

indy (FRI) 12/25 Arena Azteca Budokan [Jlazaor]
1) Elemento & Muerte Bucanero vs Genesis & Principe Zarac
2) Galactico, Rey Dragon, Skayderman vs Brozo, Dr. Jenquils, Maquina de la Muerte
3) Espectrito I, Mini Cibernetico, Pequeño Halloween vs Mini Apache, Mini Oriental, Sexi Ruby
4) La Chola, Rossy Moreno, Valentina vs Diosa de Oro, Flor Metalica, Mujer Demente
5) Charly Manson, Dr. Wagner III, Groon XXX vs Histeria, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Oriental

Dr. 3’s debut.

CMLL FSE #170 (11/07)

taped Arena Coliseo, 11/01/2009

No links – I got this off a Lover_Ice straight file rip, so I don’t have YouTube links handy. Not really a show to go out of your way to see, anyway. Opener got an appalling amount of time and didn’t have much to it; tough to get read on people in 5 minutes. Main event felt mailed in and got bad at points.

I just realized now, looking back and this (and in real time, having just watched this week’s Guerreros del Ring) that CMLL/MVS has likely been showing the same edecanes dancing music video for two months. That’s kinda odd, especially given how hard they work for (pointless) new content in other parts of teh show.

Luchador 6K, Sunday lineup

MONKEEEEEEEEEEY/CMLL
MONKEEEEEEEEEEY/CMLL

Black Terry Jr. has photos of the IWRG’s Sunday show, but no results have turned up yet.

Kid Azteca was the bigger winner of the Luchador 6K in Gomez Palacio. Full standings

Lightweight
1) Kid Azteca
2) Ecliptico

Middleweight
1) El Mago
2) Aspid
3) Super Leopardo

Heavyweight
1) El Fenix

The best part about this is the luchadors run a show after.

Al Filo del Ring has holiday wishes from El Hijo del Santo.

Box Y Lucha #2953 has Mistico retaining his title and Cibernetico talking about Konnan. So this could be any issue in the last six months.

Little late on this lineup:

indy (THU) 07/30/1953 Arena Isabel de Cuernavaca [La Jornada]
1) Mishima Ota vs Cavernario II
2) Pedro Bloanos vs Jorge Allende
3) Blue Demon vs Donald Smith
4) Enrique Llanes vs Gran Amenaza
4) El Santo vs Black Shadow [NWA WELTER]

(Which is an odd title match, seeing as Santo lost that title to Demon five days prior. Maybe this was just the advertised lineup?)

Other Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/25 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio
1) Dorado Jr. & Sexy Piscis vs ? & Mr. Guerrero
2) Hijo del Soberano & Piloto Negro vs Astuto & Psycho
3) Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata vs Hooligan & Semental
4) Blue Panther & Stuka Jr. vs Euforia & Misterioso II

CMLL (SUN) 12/27 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy, Bengala, Freesbe (IWRG) vs Artillero, Disturbio, Súper Comando
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Valiente vs Bronco, Hooligan, Nitro
3) Fuego, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
4) Shocker vs Mr. Niebla
5) Máscara Dorada, Místico, Toscano vs Felino, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Singles match. NOT a hair vs mask. Why not, it’ll be fun.

Doesn’t look like the Cancerbros are done with the Arena Coliseo champs yet. Or this may just be the new Tuareg/Angels reoccurring matches based on positioning thing.

Valiente’s awful low. Wonder if maybe it’s supposed to be Principe?

Not really sure which Freesbe this is.
