CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico) #170 (11/07/2009)
Recaped sometime in early December, 2009.
When the show starts with about a minute of edecanes dancing, even before the credits, I get the feeling that they don't have much of wrestling to show. But we'll see!
In between matches, they've got an interview with Super Porky. They also do stand ups segments where they talk about wrestlers or feuds – there seems to be no connection or importance to them, and they all just fly by so fast nothing can possibly be absorbed.
Match 1: Delta, Diamante, Guerrero Maya Jr. © vs Inquisidor, Puma King ©, Tiger Kid
Arena Coliseo, 11/01/2009
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 4:43
Rating: not much.
Notes: Entrances, even. Are they just giving facts sheets on these guys because they're so new? Guess we see in about 20 minutes. It is a nice touch, though if their biggest success in their career is all going to be “made it to CMLL”, maybe you should use a different fact. Somehow, they know Delta's debut to the day, but Diamante's only to the year. Guerrero Maya's entrance gear looks good. Tiger Kidd (they're spelling it with two d's, not so much me) has his hair win over La Flecha noted, but that's about it. Puma King is wearing pants with paw prints and a Heavy Metal-like checkered flag design. Hmmmmm.
1: JIP, after all that, on the tail end of a a Delta/Tiger exchange. Maya and Puma in. Maya off the ropes, rolling over a drop down, waved past, on the run, thrown up, and comes down with arm drag. Puma bumps Maya with a shoulderblock, runs out of the ring, and Maya gives chase. Puma quickly comes in and easily kicks Maya on his way in. Puma celebrates, then walks over to the técnicos corner, where Diamante is really to springboard headscissors him. Puma out, Diamante off the ropes, Bronco tries to knock him down with a dropkick, but Diamante steps out of the way. Corner whip, reversed, Bronco charges in, Diamante flips him to the apron, Bronco blocks Diamante, Diamante blocks Bronco (!) and Diamante slaps down Bronco That's not the way it usually goes. Tiger rushes, Diamante leapfrogs and sets up for a monkey flip, but Tiger stops and dropkicks him to the head, and Puma adds a kick to the chest. Bronco is on the top rope, waiting, but the cats are rolling Diamante out. Oh, now they bring him back. Big top rope splash. One two three. Not the captains, though. Bronco catches Delta (off screen), then dumps him with a fallaway slam. Tiger Kid sits on Puma's shoulders, and is swung forward into a hard splash on Delta to finish off the fall. Replays.
2: Not shown. Instead, they do a segment of talking to Porky, a segment of Julio Cesar talking about Guerrero Maya and Guerrero del Futuro, and more edecanes, then to...
3: Rudos are on the run, but they clip ahead to everyone back in their corners. Puma in, and Guerrero Maya gets into meet him. Puma King knocks him down with a shoulderblock. Whip, reversed, Puma back with a spinning backbreaker. One more to be through. Maya off the ropes, off the ropes, roll for no reason since Puma's sitting on the apron. As they show Puma there, Tiger knocks Guerrero Maya down - anther missed shot. Chops. Corner whip, Tiger charges in, Maya backdrops him to the apron, Tiger Kid swing kicks him away and celebrates. Probably should stop looking over his shoulder waiting for Guerrero Maya to come – and he does, dropkicking Tiger off. Maya with a showy cartwheel into a headscissors - nice of the rudos just to hang back there. Maya back in to pose and celebrates – and the other rudos knocks him down. Técnicos complain from the apron but do little more. Tiger's waved in, but the rudos seem in no hurry here. Puma leaves, and the other two whip Maya around. Maya ducks a double clothesline, and the other técnicos springboard in with a headscissors and armdrags. Diamante leaps to the apron and drops on Tiger with an Asai tornillo, then Delta follows with a walk up the ropes, off the rope, off the spot moonsault on Bronco. Puma trips up Guerrero in the ring and get the casita in. Close to the ropes, one, two, foot on the middle rope. Puma Kid argues with the ref who didn't make the call (Tiger Hispano, how I've not missed you), then freaks out generally. Both wrestlers charges, Puma's clothesline is revered , back elbow is ducked, and Maya shocks Puma King with an ear clap. Pausing shoulderblock, springboard reverse tope, cradle DDT, one two three.
Really not a lot here. It was a five minutes match. Doctors check on Puma after the match. That finish did look impressive.
They're really hyper about giving out random facts about wrestlers in between segments. It all just washes over with no impact.
Match 2: Héctor Garza, Shocker, Volador Jr. © vs Averno ©, Terrible, Texano Jr.
Arena Coliseo, 11/01/2009
Winner:
rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 10:29
Rating: OK for the time.
Notes: So they are doing it for everyone. You know, honestly, they're better of not making it clear out front that this técnico group is made up for a 40 year old, a 37 year old, and a ?? year old, since the two who have ages are trying to look much younger than that. Hijos de Averno enter as a group, which warms my heart. Averno has taken Plata's mask recently, won the tag team titles multiple times, and held both world middleweight titles at the same time, has “joining CMLL” as his biggest career achievement.
1: Texano and Hector to start. Lockup, hammerlock by Garza, headlock by Texano, reversals upon reversal on the mat, and Garza slows it down with a legscissors. Garza press his knucks onto Texano's right knee, and Texano signals for some help. Terrible picks up on it band breaks it up. Terrible immediately leaves the ring, but Shocker urns through it and outside to grab Terrible by the hair. Shocker thinks about it, and Texano's there to help out before Shocker does anything. Shocker backs off, but warns Terrible. Terrible laughs. High ten for Texano. Shocker gives Garza a pep speech. I guess Volador walked around the ring there. Okay, everyone ready to continue? Sure. Texano first has to mock Volador, then he's ready to go. Lockup, Texano kicks away one wristlock, twists the other, and forces Garza down. Garza tries grabbing Texano by the hair to get free, but Tigre Hispano swats away his hand. Garza keeps on doing it, and Texano lets go to complain. Garza gets up, kicks Texano in the backside, and snap mares him into a chinlock. Terrible comes into break that up again, and Shocker comes into argue again. Averno's ready to take him on, but Shocker back off. Garza argues himself, and all of the Avernos beat him down with kicks and stomps. Whip, double clotheslines misses, and Garza kicks Terrible's head as he leans thru the ropes. Terrible goes flying to the floor, Garza goes after him, and it's a four way brawl on the floor between the unmasked people. Terrible seems to be getting the better of Garza, but Texano and Shocker just grab at each other for a while. No idea where the other two - oh, Averno sets Volador on the top rope and goes for his mask,, that's bout right. Tecnicos get whipped into each other on the outside, as Averno keeps grabbing the mask. Averno brings Volador down, and drops him with Devil's Wings. One two three. That's a fall.
2: Rudos are in and waiting for someone to face them. Técnicos would prefer a one on one, but they're not getting. Lots of dressed up kids in the audience for Halloween. Garza in, and Texano loudly kicks him in the thigh. Garza's hold down for Texano to bite him on the backside. Thru the trunks, even. Garza tries to crawl away, but Terrible stops him to spank him too. Shocker tries racing in and is kicked. Whip, spinebuster open hand slap, to knock him down, and Texano legdrop to guillotine him. Averno rushes out to knock down Volador and stomp him on the stage. Texano threatens are randomly. Averno goes after Volador's mask, then throws him in. The other rudos hold Volador for Averno to hit, but Volador spits at Averno first. Averno dramatically reacts, then kicks Volador down. Only one kick? Hector back in, but forced in the corner. They play a game where every time Garza gets hit, he slaps Texano. Terrible does not figure out this game, much to Texano's annoyance – he has to stop his partner from hitting Garza. They argue, and Garza tries to kick his way back in control, but the rudos get a bit serious for a moment. Corner whip, Averno charges, no one home. Garza rolls under a double clothesline, and Shocker gets them both with a double clothesline. Averno kicks him down, and Volador takes Averno over with a springboard headscissors. Volador off both sets of ropes – tope con giro connects. Shocker in, 'rana on Texano, one two three. Terrible walks past the pin to throw a bad clothesline at Garza. Garza ducks, gets a bodyscissors cradle, and wins the fall.
3: Rudos slap around Shocker, who comes back to give them both faceslams. Terrible and Texano kick him down, but charge and throw themselves out. Averno in, right into a spinning backbreaker. And a second. And a third. Four? No, Shocker finger shoots Averno, who falls over dead. That was cute. Shocker holsters his weapon and struts. Crowd chants for Shocker, who wits for someone to come into fight him. Tag to Volador, Terrible in to fight him. The chin strap on Volador's mask seems off. Terrible tries a handshake, but Volador appears to be too smart for that today. Oh, wait, he's considering – he's considering - he's taking so long Terrible is greatly offended. Volador takes off his shirt instead. Volador off the ropes, over, flipping run, under a clothesline, back with a headscissors. Texano in, misses a clothesline, Volador gets lifted up up to Terrible's shoulders, but comes off with an armdrag in one motion. That's neat. Fireman's escape headscissors ends Texano out. Averno in – Averno stopping to clap before fighting Volador. Garza fires up his partner. Averno poses and tries to draw from the crowd. Volador off the ropes, spinning headscissors into a second rotation into Volador falling off and Averno taking the bump anyway. That's unfortunate. Immediately to the Asia moonsault. Garza miss a corner charge and get hung up in the ropes. Shocker gets kicked into the other corner. Garza whipped to Shocker, and the idea is Shocker puts his hands out for Garza to moonsault off of, but they have trouble getting the boost set up and Garza just stands there with his foot on Shocker's hand. This is suddenly amateur hour. Garza get the moonsault after a few seconds, with the rudos standing behind him and watching. Garza boots Shocker into a double dropkick on both, sending them out. High ten, off the ropes, rolling into pescados on both rudos. Captains back in. Rudo Averno busy pointing to the crowd and trying to wave for support. Volador off the ropes, up and over sunset flip is thrown off, Averno low blow kick is blocked, but that leaves Averno free to pull off his mask. Everyone saw it, and Averno stomps instead of covering anyway. DQ, that's it.
Replays. Interview with the rudos, who celebrate being evil and such. Averno still has Volador's mask, and Texano and Terrible mess with Julio Cesar's hair. Averno doesn't think much of Volador getting a title match, and steps on Volador's mask.
