10/10-11 Lucha Times

box

AAA-US: Late, and a split feed for the first time in a while. Oriental’s farewell, a match featuring Groon XXX and Jack Evans, and the WagnerManicas vs Mesias and AAA

52MX: Mistico/Panther/Toscano vs Triad. Dr X as a fill in tecnico, versus the Tuareg.

CMLL: STRONG MAN. Also, Triad vs Sombra/Dorada/Volador

AAA-MEX: if I’m following what aired on AAA TV last week – and that sure is a different look to TV – the Reina de Reinas, hair match, and Torneo Antonio Pena wil air here. And the lights out match will never air because it was a very bad idea.

FSE-CMLL: This show is airing at 10AM this week. UG/Volador, the mask match they really want you to think it’s happening, and in Arena Coliseo too. Also, Rene Guajardo & Romanos vs Astro Boy, Metalico, Starman – actually, no, they’ll be airing something else, that match can only exist in photos.

FSE-AAA: maybe a new episode? Maybe? It’s bumped to Sunday at 5pm, and I don’t see a weekend airing next week. This show has been a pretty total failure so far.

Puebla: More STrong Man,. I’m going to guess they drop the tercera, for no real reason.

Monterrey: Gato Volador/Silver Star/Tiger Universitario is a very Monterrey trio.

AAA #902 (09/05)

taped 08/07/09, which means I’m punctuality two months behind.

Argenis, Atomic Boy, Gato Eveready vs Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II – the better of the recent ones. Argenis is a not-horrible wrestler who has an occasional high spot, which is not only impressive because it’s nice to see people to improve, but shocking to see someone improve in AAA at this point in time.

Fabi Apache vs Sexy Star – Sexi Star as the most improved wrestler? Sexi Star as the best character in AAA? She needs some sort of award.

Jack Evans & Rocky Romero vs Alex Koslov & Sugi San – if Extreme Tiger was the one who was hurt, why did we never see Teddy here? Maybe this was all explained in commentary I wasn’t paying listening to. This is the cruiserweight match I got bored with – look, we’ll reference ROH spots .005% of the crowd is aware of! – but it does get better.

Charly Manson & El Mesías vs Chessman & Cibernético – I liked the storyline of the Chessman/Charly feud, but the matches…not so much. Meanwhile, Cibernetico just brushing off his former best friends for a feud with Mesias is quite up there in the lameness. Though, and maybe I’m getting matches confused here, there opening sequence felt not like the reunification of the Hell Brothers, but the Vipers falling all over the place to make a tecnico look good.

Alan Stone, La Parka Jr., Marco Corleone vs Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King – what the heck was the deal with Electro at the end here? Are their people undecided on Electroshock’s technical abilities (after how many years on TV) that he thought he might win them over with a few extra holds? I mean, I’m pretty sure they wanted Electro to look good to justify him being in the new group, but beating Alan Stone isn’t usually going to do it.

Panther hurt, those leaving AAA today, Titanes en el Ring

CMLL (TUE) 10/06 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
2) Estrella Mágica, Lady Apache, Star Fire b Hiroka, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skándalo b Flash, Rey Cometa, Tigre Blanco
4) Felino, Heavy Metal, Misterioso II b Máximo, Rouge, Stuka Jr.
5) Ray Mendoza Jr., Terrible, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano

Panther was hurt in the second fall, hitting a turnbuckle on a corner tope and landing badly on the loor.

Tigre Blanco replaced Pegasso, which may be more to set up the mask match than anything with Pegasso.

Lady Apache demanded a title shot at Blanca after winning that trios match. Given the crew she had, Apache earned that title match for pulling out that win.

CMLL (TUE) 10/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Ebola & Skaxy b El Divino & Virgo
2) Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno b Egipcio & Leon Blanco
3) Máscara Mágica & Satánico DQ Astaroth & Horus
4) Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max b Fabián el Gitano, Metro, Neutrón
5) Hijo del Fantasma & Místico b Atlantis & Último Guerrero

Tecnicos won clean in the main. Neutron was sterchered out of his match. DQ in the tercera was for Magica and Satanico taking both tecnicos’ masks.

And now, people who are no longer in AAA:

– AAA says Groon XXX is gone. If it was his call, Groon XXX is a genius. He got put over on TV for a few weeks and got out before he had to lose. Way to go. If it was AAA’s call, because they just figured out he’s not very good, they need new people in charge. Anyway, points to luchalibreaaa.com for scooping everyone else about something leaving their company. You think I’m being sarcastic, but this is an unusual positive achievement for them.

Something to remember Groon XXX by:

Groon XXX doing what he does
Groon XXX doing what he does

Tirantes Sr., who tells the Gladiatores that he doesn’t want to say anything bad about AAA because his family still works there, but also “they violated my rights as a human being.” Tirantes says he could go home to Xalapa and not have to be involved in wrestling again, but he loves wrestling so much, he decided to join the Perros

WagnerMania and LuchandoLibre talked to Charly Manson about his departure. This actually went up a day or two ago, but I didn’t post it because I lost track of which Charly Manson interviews I’d posted. There’s been a few. Anyway, Charly appears to have the Mexican National Heavyweight Championship nailed to his wall, which seems like an odd use.

These are all no problems, because X-Pac is coming back. For the third time.

An exhibtion of Rosalio Vera’s lucha photography opened last night in Gallery Jose Clemente Orozoco in UNAM. It’s in support of the CMLL 101 Llaves and Lances book, featuring his artwork. They let Sangre Azteca help cut the ribbon, and it’s slightly disappointing he did not use them to attack Mascara Dorada. Also, No Limit & Okumura were there, clearly stealing the secrets of Mexican wrestling to defeat Black Warrior. So sad. If you want to steal the secrets of lucha libre, the exhibit runs thru the 30th.

In Argentina, Gengis Khan of the original Titanes en el Ring promotions passed away. Another retired wrestler of the group, Oscar Demelli (who says he played the Mummy but was not the famous one), is using the extra attention to complain about the lack of promised retirement money due to him and the rest of the wrestlers. He’s suing Martin Karadajian’s daughter, and may be totally in the the right, but very much comes off like a paranoid unhinged man. He was held in jail after threatening Argentina’s president for not making the Karadajains pay up, but claims he’s been getting anonymous threatening messages from shadowy people.

Guadalajara’s Guero Loco, just back from a right knee injury, hurt his right knee. They’re hoping he just needed more rehab time, but surgery is possible

Chronicles y Leyenda de Lucha Libre looks back to Jushin Liger’s first trip to Mexico, in 1989.

DJ Spectro’s blog profiles local wrestler Slayer, while Estrellas del Ring writes about Demonio Negro.

Luchas 2000 #490 has results from Heroes de Imortales, including Joaquin Roldan saying AAA owns the name ‘Charly Manson’ and will not let him use it elsewhere.

AAA (SAT) 10/10 Gimnasio Nazario Ortiz Garza, Saltillo [Vanguardia]
1) Gato Volador & Tigre Universitario vs Difunto I & Difunto II
2) Chessman & Konnan vs Electroshock & Marco Corleone

This is the debut show for local promoter Indio Kikapoo (Luis Anaya). Future shows announced are 10/31, 11/15, 12/25 – which is said to be a special TV taping. They can’t possibly really be making people tape TV on Christmas.

CMLL (TUE) 10/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Ebola & Egipcio vs Angelo & Saturno
2) Astaroth & Samurai vs Acertijo & Malefico
3) Angel del Mal & Máscara Mágica vs Gallo & Horus
4) Nosferatu & Vangelis vs Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata
5) Héctor Garza, La Máscara, Strong Man vs Naito, Terrible, Yujiro
