Mistico wins in straight falls, threatens to retire if he loses his mask

CMLL (FRI) 09/04 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Notimex, Cesar, Ovaciones]
1) Disturbio & Durango Kid b Bengala & Delta
2) Stuka Jr. b Loco Max [lightning]
3) Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela
4) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. b Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Místico DQ Negro Casas

Mistico won the main event in straight falls, getting the first via La Mistica, and the second when Niebla and Felino ran in. Mistico still ended up stuffing Negro in the trash can, revenge for lat week. That doesn’t sell you much for Negro’s chances in two weeks, though the crowd was behind Negro.

Clean win for the tecnicos in the main event, Texano even taking Volador’s moonsault side slam. Misterioso fouled Maximo for the DQ in the fourth. Cesar says Maximo is worse than La Parka Jr. now.

Disturbio worked the opener in Turbo’s spot (though Ovaciones missed it – oops.) That’s a bit off to be a typo. Plus, it’s hard to make the same exact typo twice. Cesar says Disturbio was unmasked Super Crazy like wrestler, which makes me guess he’s the guy from the DTU show.

For his part, Mistico says he’ll retire from lucha libre if he loses his mask, and just go back to school. So, we’ve now got Negro’s hair vs Mistico’s mask, the hair of all the Perros, and Mistico’s career. Guess it could go either way. Negro really should taunt him with some university applications and a new bookbag next week. He thinks his success in Japan has given him enough momentum to beat Negro, and would like a match with Liger if he beats Casas.

Okumura says he’s not afraid of being hated by the Mexican fans, but in fact that’s kinda what he’s going for. The author of this article seems surprised by this concept.

Mascara Magica and Mictlan discuss their feud in Guadalajara. It’s as you’d expect – Magica feels Mictlan is not a wrestler, just a dancer, and doesn’t come to the ring to wrestle, while Mictlan points out all he’s done lately is wrestle, since Magica beats the heck out of him every time he tries to dance.

In Reynosa, the local police are using a masked wrestler to teach kids to hate criminals and defend themselves against them. I think the real news here is this a tecinco police character actually exists.

In an expansion of previous articles, Perro Aguayo Jr. talks actual numbers and details about his promotion:

– there are 40 wrestlers on roster
– Tickets go for 30 for children, 50 for bleaches, and 100 for ringside.
– they usually sell 90% of tickets
– 40-50% of the fans in Mexico are fans of Los Perros
– Their merchandise is only available on their website, but they hope to be in stores later this year or next. They’d like to expand to more clothing, as well as items for dogs and cars.
– shows cost 50,000 to 300,000 to run
– wrestlers cost from 1,500 ($112) to 100,000 ($7475) per show
– Perros get 10% of the revenue per show, while the promoters get 50%
– Perros hope to be on Cadena3 and Unicable by October.

PerrosdelMal.net does NOT have merchandise on it – doesn’t have anything but cards from February. I don’t think those are actually the ticket prices, and I’m sure there are people on those shows making far less than $112. In light of that, it’s tough to believe any of this (including TV), but it’s interesting as the story Perro is presenting to the public.

DTU has photos from it’s Pachuca show.

X-Torm wants it known that the Rabia who lost his mask on the Rey Misterio Sr. tribute show a few months ago, who was mentioned at the time as also being X-Torm, is actually just a guy who X-Torm let borrow his mask a couple times. X-Torm himself did not lose his mask.

IWRG, Mexico preview, Perro Jr.

IWRG (THU) 09/03 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. & Pics, twitter/gladiatores]
1) Talisman Jr. b Terry Brow
2) Blasfemia & Vampiro Metálico b Exodia & Miss Gaviota
3) Bushi, Chico Che, Freelance b Avisman, Brandon (IWRG), Gringo Loco
4) Head Hunter I & Toxico DF b Bobby Lee Jr. & Scorpio Jr.
5) Sangre Chicana b Villano III

Brandon is a random masked fill in, since whichever Espanto Jr. who was supposed to be here never actually was.

Previews of tonight’s show: Notimex, Ovaciones. All the focus is on Negro/Mistico’s singles match, two weeks from when it really matters. Gotta figure next week is Lyger on top in a trios just to do a special attraction to get people to come out.  There’s a lot of good matches on the undercard tonight, but nothing else in terms of story.

Perro Aguayo Jr. defended Rey Misterio Jr., saying criticism wasn’t fair, because it wasn’t due to prohibiting substances – just substances he wasn’t allowed to use without getting his doctor’s permission. That doesn’t quite work, but OK. Also, when asked, Perro didn’t want to pick a winner between Mistico & Negro, but “ultimately mention that if Mistico lost, he and Los Perros would all shave their heads in solidarity.”

Call me crazy, but I wouldn’t think Perro would do an interview just to promote Rey Misterio and Mistico. You have to hunt around for it, but it turns out Perro Aguayo Jr. was actually speaking to a group of entrepreneurs about business. His basic message was I thought I was a rudo, until I started dealing with businessmen. Perro always likes competition, but not the unfair stuff he’s dealt with – competitors taking down his posters or scheduling another show at the same building with lower prices. This probably is an interesting talk, but I hope he’s figured out the needing-TV thing. Sunday’s show really made me wish Perro and company had figured this out a whole better.

AAA probably needs to check Mini Psicosis’ birthday on their site. (Pointed out by psychosismask @ DVDVR)

Preview for a 10/03 CMLL spot shows seems to think Mistico & Volador are the tag champs, or just needs loses something in the translation.

ESTO has an article about the fourth season of ImprvoLucha.

Segunda Caida checks in on IWRG from August 20, 2009.

Last night’s Slammin’ Stan #11 is up. And just when I caught up…

Edit: Pueba lineup…

CMLL (MON) 09/07 Arena Puebla
1) Blue Center, Lestat, Milenium vs Alarido, Espiritu Maligno, Fuerza Chicana
2) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Horus vs Durango Kid, Escorpion, Turbo
3) Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei vs Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela
4) Atlantis, Misterioso II, Último Guerrero vs La Sombra, Toscano, Volador Jr.
5) Shocker vs Yujiro

Main event is not a hair match, but may be for a Copa Puebla.

For a guy who tore a muscle in his leg, Toscano sure is wrestling a lot.

Turbo continues on, so tonight’s not all or nothing.

Milenium and Alarido appear to be new Puebla wrestlers, which can’t be right. I wonder if they’re guys who just haven’t worked in 10 years (like Guerrero Mantis.) The name “Milenium” sure suggests someone who got it a while ago (there’s a Milenium listed as working Puebla in ’98), or is way ahead of his time.

CMLL on Televisa #937 (08/15)

taped 08/07 and 08/14

I don’t even remember where I got this, but it’s on YouTube. It’s been a while. I finished this up last week, actually.

For a five match show, there’s actually more interesting shows. Flash was cool versus Arkangel, and Sagrado/Mephisto was good, and I think they’ve found a Metro where being Metro actually works out better for him. Solid stuff, but nothing any big to point back in a month’s time.

The one really interesting thought from this was – remember when Niebla jumped, at he was allied with the Guerreros for the first week, but then ended up with Negro & Metal the next week? At the time, it seemed like Niebla got stolen away from the Guerreros a bit unfairly, and it was bad decision. Watching Niebla team up with Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero here, it was totally the right decision. Niebla as serious professional rudo doesn’t hold a candle to Niebla as insane comedy rudo, and I don’t know that we get to that if he’s teaming with Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis.

(Still, the Guerreros could still use enough healthy members to form a trio.)

Publea, AAA video game

CMLL (MON) 08/31 Arena Puebla [KrisZ]
1) Aguila Guerrera & Mr. Rafaga b Black Tiger & King Jaguar
2) Horus, Leono, Starman b Bronco, Hooligan, Inquisidor
3) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Metro b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max
4) Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro b Blue Panther, La Sombra, Shocker
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas [CMLL TRIOS]

They teased Yujiro/Shocker in the semimain.

AAA invites people in Mexico City to come out to a club and be background noise for the game. This is a neat promotional idea, but you’d think they’d be further along if they’re going to release in 2009. AAA also has Electroshock, who talks about joining Wagner’s group and an upcoming tribute to Fishman.

Fuego en el Ring previews Averno vs Panther for the NWA Middleweight title.

the Gladiatores has a video interview with Alex Koslov.

A new comic book with el Hijo del Santo will debut today.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update. There’s a new edition of Slammin’ Stan tonight.

09/05-06 Lucha Times

box. I have no idea what’s going on this week, I don’t even know why you’re reading this post.

AAA-US: So. Lucha Libre is on the schedule. What lucha libre? This was the week where AAA didn’t air in Mexico, which suggests a rerun. As always, we hope they just go to the next episode (which is listed) and they never do.

52MX: Probably Poder Mexica/Lizmark vs Metro/Mascara/Sagrada and Atlantis/Warrior/Neibal vs Sombra/Shocker/Volador

CMLL: top 3, though maybe they don’t give away Negro Casas vs Mistico on TV unless they have a really strong build to the anniversary match?

AAA-MEX: No real good idea here, because it’s week one of Verano de Escandalo and they can pick and choose. Guessing this is the week with the four way hair match, but dunno.

CMLL-FSE: Yea, let’s just assume it’s on. May find out. IWGP match should turn up here, plus Tuareg vs Fabian/Leono/Cometa

C3: Super Sky Team vs Peste Negra/UG, plus Trios Champs vs Trio de Terror, with a post match something. (CMLL mentioned nothing about a big match when they got their text up, so…)

Puebla: CMLL Trios title defended. Probably no segunda.

Monterrey: Ninja and family!

Trios champs retain in Puebla, mask/hair match set up in Mexico (maybe), Koslov

CMLL (MON) 08/31 Arena Puebla [El Manana]
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas [CMLL TRIOS]

Rudos took the first, tecnicos took the second, Negro beat Fantasma, but Mascara & Garza beat Negro & Niebla for the succesful defence.

CMLL (TUE) 09/01 Arena Mexico [Record, ESTO]
1) Escorpion & Semental ?? Diamante & Molotov
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Metálico, Tigre Blanco DQ Hooligan, Pólvora, Tiger Kid
3) Euforia, Nosferatu, Skándalo b Fabián el Gitano, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Record notes Mistico hasn’t lost since the Anniversary match was announced. Mistico got Niebla here.

Mephisto fouled Hector Garza, which led to the tecnicos challenging for mask vs hairs match, which is normal. According to Record, the rudos actually accepted, which is very much not normal. ESTO just has the challenge, and CMLL hasn’t said anything on their website. (They updated the photos on the Tuesday recap this morning, but not so much the text.)

No word on the DQ in the second match, but at least Guerrero Maya’s injury from Friday doesn’t seem severe. No result for the opener, but Escorpion is clearly Escorpion Negro. He’s still wearing his Metrosexual gear – maybe Shocker can recruit him for the Guapos too!

CMLL (TUE) 09/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Idolo & Thunder Boy b Relampago & Skaxy
2) Ebola & In Memoria b El Divino & Magnum
3) Neutrón & Palacio Negro b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Flash, Mictlán, Stuka Jr. DQ Máscara Mágica, Misterioso II, Vangelis
5) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Shocker & Toscano

Terrible got the deciding pin on Toscano with his feet on the ropes. Mascara Magica destroyed Mictlan again, making him bleeding and fouling him for the DQ.

AAA “reminds us” (of something none of who weren’t there have seen yet): Konnan vowed to return for the Antontio Pena show, which I take just to mean he won’t be on this weekend’s taping. AAA also catches up with Sugi, who’s knee injury is not serious but he says it’s the first one he’s ever had, and posts the obligatory we wish Alex well in his future endovers post. Meanwhile, Alex writes about Hector stealing his stop sign and the joy of blasting people via the press. This explains 90% of Mistico’s interviews.

Cesar guesses John Strongman will be successful, but won’t be around long.

Ras de Lona #61 is 90% about the anniversary show.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.
