Ultimo Guerrero vs Villano V to face in a mask vs mask match on March 20th

8:30pm: Update at the end of the poast

That’s your Dos Leyendas main event. I’m not sure if that was the plan all along, or if Villano III cost himself (and Blue Panther) this pay day by opting to do the hair match with Scorpio Jr. this weekend in Arena Neza, but CMLL announced a straight singles one on one match for the masks. Tickets go on sale next week.

The talk, when V5 beat Blue Panther, is that V5 would ultimately lose his mask in turn to build up a young wrestler. If you believe that talk, Ultimo Guerrero does not exactly fit the bill as a young wrestler. (On the other hand, one could say V5’s importance has been so diminished, it’s not the boost beating Panther would’ve been for anyone else.)

If Ultimo beats Villano 5, then I think we can definitely say we would’ve preferred this sequence of events to be Ultimo taking Blue Panther’s mask and anyone taking Villano 5’s. But, we need to keep on saying if, because CMLL’s shown they’ll do silly things just to do the surprise.

Other notes from the press conference
– Dragon Rojo Jr. has a new mask. No picture yet, but I’m sure we’ll see it soon.

– Hector Garza is starting a tecnico midcard group again. This time, it’s Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata, Angel Azteca Jr. and Metro. Hmm, who doesn’t belong? Maybe we can call him Angel de Diario.

No one remembers this, but the Angels were actually in Hector’s group last year – they were introduced as Angel I & Angel II at the time. Anyway, no idea if this is supposed to be a separate undercard act or if they’ve forgotten Hijo del Fantasma and La Mascara.

Since Mistico doesn’t like Garza, maybe now he can be free to complain that giving guys “Angel de Plata” and “Angel de Oro” gimmicks is totally ripping off and marganilizing his identity. They really seem like Martha Villalobos knock off Mistico characters than CMLL ones.

Update (1): Box Y Lucha’s take on the press conference does clarify that Hijo del Fantasma and La Mascara are supposed to be part of Hector’s group.

In big news somehow lost in the shuffle, Misterioso II was announced as a new member of Hijos del Averno.  We’re down to just Virus, Vangelis, Okumura and Lizmark Jr. as unaligned notable rudos in CMLL.

CMLL has one of it’s periodic press conferences today at noon. Ovaciones is all over the agenda
– I’ve been totally ignorning the Dos Leyendas date change to 03/27. Turns out that was a good idea, because Ovaciones seems to indicate it’s back to the original 03/20 date.
– the exact main event for the show – which combination of the Laguneros and the Villanos and what’s on the line
– Hector Garza starting a group with Angel de Oro & Angel de Plata (deja vu)
– hype for the minis cage match
– possibly a Marcela/Blanca hair mask set up for Puebla?

As soon as the news turns up, I’ll be passing it along over on twitter.

Box Y Lucha has more articles
Heavy Metal is happy with losing to the casita, because it shows just how great the rollup invented by his father is.
– a story about El Santo and Huracan Ramirez getting kicked out of a hotel before even checking in
– Villano III talks about Renato Torres surviving a bad car accident.

Laredo Kid wants to get a tag title shot with Super Fly and win Rey de Reyes. Not being in Rey de Reyes is going to make it tough to win.

box. Sorry for this being late, got busy. I think I should have something for the wiki tomorrow and I think I owe a follow comment or post or something for the Tapatia awards too. Plus, another podcast is on the way.

Let me note here that I wrote everything out, uploaded it, and then realized that maybe there isn’t going to be a February 29th this year. I caught that one, who knows what I didn’t.

AAA-US: another 2h30m episode. I haven’t gotten to this past week’s, so I don’t think if everything’s fine (because they only have five matches) or if that means editing is back. This show has Chessman/Ozz, Aerostar/Argenis/Gato vs Poder Norte and Electro/Jack/Teddy vs the Air Force.

LATV: Last week, the Sunday episode jumped 22 weeks in order to #109. This was supposed to be an episode that didn’t air on FSE, so I don’t know if they FSE just handed them the tapes, they had an empty one and they just stuck in a random episode, or if they – uh, actually, let me just stick with the random episode theory, that’s the best I got. Also, the Wednesday airing seems done – didn’t air last night, isn’t on the website grid anymore (though it’s still on the show page.) So who knows exactly what’s going on here.

Virus/Dorada for sure, plus probably the unaired fourth match trio from Friday and another Dos Jr. heavy main event.

52MX: Quite boring looking, to be honest.

CMLL: If the pattern holds, the minis should sneak on this show (so they can promote the cage match in Puebla?), plus Laguneros/Hijo/Villanos and a main event rematch.

AAA-MEX: Parka/Silver King, Abyss/Abismo, and Charly Manson’s return.

C3: Shocker vs UG and the big return of Sombrita.
