CMLL FSE #116

taped 10/19, aired 10/26

The quick version is the opener was a little less than I was hoping, and the main event was a little better than I was hoping. The long version is it was 22 minutes, which is the most in 6 or 7 weeks. And they still had too much time at the end of the show. This is what happens when you don’t have any features. And also people willing to work long matches.

Maybe it’s the rays coming from the eye lids, maybe it’s because I’ve read a few articles about him this week, but it never occurred to me until that Sombra’s mask is not that far off Oro’s.

Weird fact about my TiVo Series 3 that I forget – there’s no analog out. There’s HDMI out and Composite out, and probably a couple others, but my plan of just hooking it up to analog in on my computer didn’t work so well. I ended up using the composite out into a VCR, and the analog out of the VCR into the computer, which got the video there but seems to have created an audio delay. I couldn’t figure out how to fix that, and I couldn’t figure out why, when I run the MPEG thru VirtualDub, the AVI file comes out twice as large as when I digitally transfer it off my TiVo. It’s up here, but it’s over 700 MB, as large as the 2h30m AAA show.

Does anyone have an idea of what I’m doing wrong? It’s not so much this file, though I wouldn’t mind redoing it if I could get it to shrink. I’ve got older shows of FSE (and 52MX) on a external drive which were recorded in much the same way and have the same problem when it comes to converting. I’d like to transfer to AVI, but if they’re going to be that big, it’s almost not worth bothering. I’m using the same DiVX codec, I’m adjusting the size to the same, but I think there’s something in how the files were recorded that I’m not compensating for (some audio compression I need to do?)

  1. Would need to think about this sober (sometime next year), but the thing I would do in virtual dub mode is,

click in the video, framerate tab (control R) and check the change so video and audio duration match

control P for compression and choose a h264 or divx xvid codec and adjust its properties to get a smaller file.

If opening the file in virtualdub gives you an audio error, it means you might need to uncompress the sound with a different program (cooledit, or something like that), save it as wav and use it again in vdub.

  2. Oh, and yes, the audio must also be compressed, to lame mp3 or something like that at 128 kbps, if not, the audio alone can be bigger than the video file being it pcm audio.

  3. Did you put this vid in the latest AAA recap by mistake or as a joke that nothing on that AAA show was worth clipping out?

Sombra looked great in this match.
