CMLL FSE #116

taped 10/19, aired 10/26

The quick version is the opener was a little less than I was hoping, and the main event was a little better than I was hoping. The long version is it was 22 minutes, which is the most in 6 or 7 weeks. And they still had too much time at the end of the show. This is what happens when you don’t have any features. And also people willing to work long matches.

Maybe it’s the rays coming from the eye lids, maybe it’s because I’ve read a few articles about him this week, but it never occurred to me until that Sombra’s mask is not that far off Oro’s.

Weird fact about my TiVo Series 3 that I forget – there’s no analog out. There’s HDMI out and Composite out, and probably a couple others, but my plan of just hooking it up to analog in on my computer didn’t work so well. I ended up using the composite out into a VCR, and the analog out of the VCR into the computer, which got the video there but seems to have created an audio delay. I couldn’t figure out how to fix that, and I couldn’t figure out why, when I run the MPEG thru VirtualDub, the AVI file comes out twice as large as when I digitally transfer it off my TiVo. It’s up here, but it’s over 700 MB, as large as the 2h30m AAA show.

Does anyone have an idea of what I’m doing wrong? It’s not so much this file, though I wouldn’t mind redoing it if I could get it to shrink. I’ve got older shows of FSE (and 52MX) on a external drive which were recorded in much the same way and have the same problem when it comes to converting. I’d like to transfer to AVI, but if they’re going to be that big, it’s almost not worth bothering. I’m using the same DiVX codec, I’m adjusting the size to the same, but I think there’s something in how the files were recorded that I’m not compensating for (some audio compression I need to do?)

two upcoming AAA returns

AAA posted a couple articles about them, but you already know about them if you’ve paying close attention:

* Laredo Kid, making his return from injury on the next TV taping. I keep forgetting Laredo isn’t coming back from the Pena Memorial/Ron Killings injury from last year, but that he was back for a few months after that and then got hurt again in the cage match with the Sect and Sangre Chicana. They’re blaming the injury on Scoria, which would be a fun feud (Laredo & Mesias as non-friends with common enemies might be fun, though I’d put the chances at 0%)

* Tiffany will make her TV return on the following TV taping, in Cuernavaca on 11/15. Her return match will be teaming with Cinthia Moreno vs Fabi Apache and Estrellita, and you’d figure most everyone on that taping will get used again on the 11/17 show. (Tim is thrilled.) Like Laredo, Tiffany’s been working sporadically on spot shows but this would be her first TV match since May of 2007.

I was never the biggest Tiffany fan before she left, but her stock has only gone up with the lack of depth and the quality of non-Apache/Moreno performances on the ruda side. It’s great to have her back. With Tiffany starting on 11/15, she figures to be at least a little part of the Konnan’s New, Improved AAA story as well.

5) Blue Panther vs Averno

Trying to figure out the logic of the challengers. Olimpico wasn’t on the team this past Tuesday, that was Satanico. Olimpico was born in Mexico City, so no on that. Olimpico is a Guerrero, Dragon Rojo is almost a Guerrero, but Misterioso sure is not. Olimpico and Dragon Rojo are absurdly jacked, but not so much el Rey de Yoghurt. They are all three human beings, so there you go. They’ll probably win the titles after this paragraph.

BTW, Olimpico’s a sub or the lineup is wrong, because there’s a Notimex article listing Texano in his place.

That aside, I’ll be disappointed if 2, 3, and 5 don’t make air and fun. This is the monthly fan appreciation show, so at least there should be a big crowd.

Backing up in time, that leaves us with today’s Arena Mexico show…

CMLL (FRI) 10/31 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Metálico vs Puma King & Tiger Kid
2) Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero, Tzuki vs Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito

4) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V
5) Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero

As ESTO points out, how exactly is Sombra supposed to get along with his teammates?. Besides the usual tecnico/rudo bit, they’re challenging for his title five days later. It’s almost like the bookers of the shows don’t talk to each other. Or, perhaps, this is the end of the Laguneros already. On the other hand, ESTO talks about a (previously non-existent) rumor that Niebla would join the Guerreros, and UG would work with leave to lead the Laguneros. That’s the closest we get to someone talking about the main event.

Ovaciones talks to the Villanos, who says this feud is now about honor.

Sangre Azteca writes about fighting for your dream. I love how he ends with an command to watch wrestling live, on a website for a television network.

Blue Demon Jr. is running a benefit show to fight childhood cancer. This is November 16 in Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera, so it’s probably a NWA Mexico show.

This Black Shadow bio makes the case he’s was the best wrestler of his era.

I’m appearing on Bryan Alvarez’s Figure Four Daily today with Steve Sims. It’s a paid show, but you can still get questions in on their board if you’re a subscriber.
