AAA #834

taped on 04/27, aired in the US on 05/24

The best part about the Mexican Powers split up angle? No more MP vs FdT matches! (Kinda.) If you’re willing to overlook the usual ‘betrayer tries to win for whole match and only turns when his partner his his finish” logic hole and if I’m willing to overlook how I don’t actually get into any of this matches, we can all give the story credit for being well done as these things go. A year or two (or more) ago, AAA would’ve done the same exact match with none of the buildup, and the buildup was the more entertaining part of this.

Abismo Negro refusing to partner with Super Porky was one of the things that made that “Abismo Negro vs All The Vipers At Once” match so totally believable. I’m sure now it was changed to that just in case Abismo didn’t show the day of, but Abismo fixed that by not showing much earlier.

Didn’t have much use for the top two matches. Vampiro’s return was done well.

Match of the night is the Head Hunter/Jack/Teddy vs Alan/Alebrije/Laredo. If you squint hard enough, it’s one big guy + two high flyers vs the same. In reality, it’s delightfully bizarre. I’m just said I couldn’t find a way to get the Cujie-napping in this clip.

06/24: Guapos split, TNA

AAA (SUN) 06/22 Salon Sagitario [the gladiatores]
1) Chac Mool b Guerrero Escarlata
2) Guerrero Azteca & Kevin b X Fly, Aquiles [Sagitario TITLE, torneo]
3) Zumbido L Intocable, Super Calo, El Brazo, Alan Stone, Decnnis [hair]
4) El Elegido, Gronda II, La Parka Jr. b Histeria, Pirata Morgan, Psicosis II

Complimenting that: AAA’s site says Zumbido and Decnnis are not going anywhere. No mention of Guapito, who re-re-reversed himself on Sunday and showed back up in IWRG. The article acknowledges Scorpio and Guapito departure, and the new unit of Zumbido, Decnnis and Brazo will come up with a new name. (AAA’s article says the group will “undergo a shift of 360 degrees”, which means you’re just spinning in a circle and ending up where you started.) No mention of who takes Scorpio’s spot in the atomicos scheduled for Sunday. Nor really any info about the dozen or so others who’ve been rumored as leaving (add Sexy Star to list), some of which worked this show.

Anyway, back on the show I originally mentioned, Zumbido lost his hair when Decnnis’ help backfired, and Intocable was able to escape last. We know Calo is going, so he and others could just be working out his contracted schedule.

Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero made it to Orlando for TNA yesterday, and even won their match! They defeated Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino of Dragon Gate in the first stage of the World X Cup, in a match that’ll air on 06/26 in the US on SpikeTV.

Team Mexico (CMLL) is now tied with Team USA (TNA) at 1 point and Team International and Team Japan (a NJPW/Japan combo.) Tonight, TNA should be taping the 2nd Round singles matches between the teams. These are each worth 2 points, and should air on the July 3rd and July 10th shows. Either Volador or Averno will wrestle against one of Team International (Alex Koslov vs Volador or Averno would be fine, though this could be Doug Williams spot) or Team TNA (Kaz or Curry Man). I’d guess that since they won the tag match, they’re probably not winning the singles match. Hopefully they’ll also use UG and Rey in non-X Cup matches while they’re hanging around.

After tonight’s spoilers come out, I’ll go thru the possible scenarios in agonizing detail, don’t you worry.

Rey and Ultimo weren’t the only lucha guys working on US tapings last night. Former Gran Alternativa winner, Sicodelico Jr. worked a dark match at WWE RAW last night. He’s Texas based, came recommended by Super Crazy, and is fluent in English, has some size, and wrestled with and against US style wrestlers plenty, so I’d think he would have a good shot if he looked good in the ring. The only strike against him is he’s not really the crazy high flyer that US fans/people in charge now associate with lucha libre, but there’s plenty there to work with. Sicodelico ought to at least get offered a developmental deal with them, if that’s what he wants.

Best link of the day: Notimex suggests Heavy Metal MAY turn on his tecnico teammates tonight. Their investigation notes Heavy Metal turned on Wagner Friday, is booked as a rudo starting this Friday, and is facing new ally Mr. Niebla in this match, but they don’t want to jump to any conclusions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wagner thinks the the Casas are just jealous of him, but of course he’ll get his revenge. Wagner is a little concerned about his matches, because it’s a pain to find your opposition and your teammates at the same time.

Hijo de Santo was interviewed by the UK Sun, hyping up the Lucha Libre London shows.

(Noroeste) Tony Golden and Black Metal (a new/young one) hype up their mask match, July 3rd in Auditorio Benito Juarez.

Victor has a recap of this past Sunday’s FSE.
