Lucha Times

What’s On: Heck if I know.

Possibly – POSSIBLY – this could be the weekend of Tag Team Title Fun: I’ve talked to death about GdI vs Atlantis/Panther, which should air Saturday. The next tape in line on Sunday is the GdI/Park/Shocker match they skipped the first time thru.

Wait, Rey and Ultimo lost both of those matches. Perhaps it’s not the weekend of fun for them.

However, it’s possible they makeup the episode they missed on Saturday, and skip the show they skipped again. That’s how it goes. I can’t wait till Canadians find out. (Shhh. Don’t tell them now.)

Times are normal. Unless they change their minds later in the week.

I fixed the future air dates so they’re actually on Saturdays. Good for me.

Recap #145

Because I noticed it was out order and really short, I recapped Saturday’s show (#145). I could’ve even gotten it up same day, but I thought I might have a chance to do two shows today.

It was a week skip to the six-way cage match. It seemed like they had more ideas on how to play it out than the Guapos/Taliban one, which made for a more fun experience. It still wasn’t a great match by any means, and the usual subpar CMLL subpar production work shows itself in chaotic match structures like this. It was still better than the last cage match and worth 22 minutes of my time.

Because of the current way I do the updates on the .com/main page, the missing gap of recaps won’t be listed there when I complete them. I will mention them here.

Next week is when I think the Atlantis/Blue Panther vs GdI match will air, which is a match I’ve been looking forward too with out any assurances it’ll actually air. I’ve been considering bailing out on the recaps if the match didn’t air; it’s the one match I’ve been amped up to see, reason alone to sort thru the boring stuff. If I couldn’t get that match, it doesn’t stand to reason why I’d stick around for the other ones.

Which makes today’s news about TLN picking up the CMLL (and oddly, only CMLL – how are they going to navigate the different lengthed shows?) on Canadaian TV oddly timed to say the least. Start date is Septemember, and my guess from the SLAM story is they’re going off the Galavision schedule. We can hash it out when it airs; I never did put in an alternate schedule for the UK Channel, but I think I’ve got enough info where you can figure out what should be next as long as you know what just aired.

Figures

CMLL drew 13,000 on 8/13 for the first singles match between Hijo del Santo and Perro Aguayo Jr., and then on 8/20 they drew 11,000 for the Gran Alternativa tournament. The Thursday and Sunday shows are averaging 3,000. You have to hand it to CMLL, as no company in the world is drawing these kinds of numbers these days.

If that wasn’t enough good news, the Rayo/Universo mascara contra mascara match on 9/17 has already sold out the first 10 to 15 rows. This is big news because CMLL does almost all of its business walk up, so it’s sure to be a sell out. When Rayo won Cien Caras’ mask in 1990, not only did they sell 23,000 tickets, another 6,000 people broke through security and watched the match from the rafters, actually causing structural damage. Yikes.

CMLL actually posted the results of the 8/17 show while the main event of Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis was still going on. Oops.

The year end special is looking like Shocker vs. Terrible in a hair match, and we may see a mask match between Atlantis and Wagner next March (personally, I wouldn’t bet the house on that happening).

Remember Hijo del Rayo de Jalisco Jr/El Hombre Sin Nombre? The exciting rookie who left CMLL for AAA because he felt he wasn’t getting a fair shake? Well, after dropping off the face of the earth, there was a report that he’s gotten really fat and out of shape. Sorry Cubs.

08/27 news

Gone: Fuerza Guerrera had a falling out with management at the last Arena Mexico show and left the company. He was upset about his position and usage, both of which seemed nonexistent. It could probably work out better for both sides – Fuerza can’t help but be used better wherever else he goes (independent) and CMLL may be able to get him back if they ever don’t have two times the guys they can use. But it seems like there were harsh feelings at least on Fuerza’s side, so I wouldn’t expect it to happen soon.

Being indy means he’s eligible for TNA work, but I can’t imagine he’d be brought in unless they brought Juvi back and wanted to run an angle that way.

Looking quickly, Fuerza hasn’t been on TV (that the US has got) since 11/24/02.

Paid: Perro Aguayo is making $700 a shot, and Hector Garza is making slightly less than that. Under Garza’s AAA contract and as one of their top stars, he was making up to $900 per WEEK, so he’s obviously doing much better since leaving and the remaining AAA guys have noticed that. This has been your biweekly “Everyone’s leaving AAA…soon” note.

Reposting is great! I wonder if Fuerza saw those numbers too.

#137 and #138

Recaps #137 and #138 are up. #137 was a skipable buildup show, #138 was the major show, with Park’s outfits and a hair/hair match the fans surprisingly bought into. No great match anywhere here, with Terrible showcasing himself as limited.

That puts me 5 behind, 6 this weekend. Eh. Nothing’s really made sad that I’m taking this slow. It did make me really tired staying up to finish these, in case you want notes about me.

lucha times

Lucha Times is up. Split feed on Sunday, normal times on Saturday.

It’s a Tarzan Boy singles match weekend, with his Perro Aguayo Jr. match airing on Saturday and his Atlantis match airing on Sunday. Should be interesting to see what we’re left with on a half hour show.
