WWE SmackDown! - 10/30/03
Taped:
10/28/03
Atlanta, GA
- Recap of last week's set up for Survivor Series
- Halloween theme. Giant pumpkin on the SmackDown background screen.
- Kurt Angle (Pittsburgh, PA, 235 pounds) and Chris Benoit (Edmonton, AB,
229 pounds) vs John Cena (Barry Sanders) & A-Train (598 pounds)
- Rematch ordered by Heyman from last week, when Benoit and Angle turned
on each other after Benoit accidentally chairshotted Angle.
- Survivor Series: Kurt Angle's Team (+4 Unknowns) vs Brock Lesnar's
Team (+4 Unknowns)
- I'm surprised they didn't bring back this concept last year. A lot
of effort always seems to be done to get the midcard guys a PPV
payday, and by creating multiperson tag matches, you can do that
easily.
- Heels get an entrance under Cena's stuff. So he can rap his way to the
ring.
- A-Train is his wookie. But it's okay, chicks dig it.
- "Halloweenie" is your last word.
- Announcers talking points
- Will Brock will take Benoit for his team?
- Vince McMahon is insane after getting put in the Buried Alive
match
- Fans like chanting Shave Your Back
- Paul Heyman is in trouble for getting Vince in that match
- A-Train and Cena would also make great choices. I suspect everyone
will be at some point.
- Tazz highlights
- "That's a version of the Polish Hammer."
- "Cena said 'You Can't See Me' to Benoit, Benoit says I see
you."
- Angle hot tag to Benoit at 4:30.
- Benoit misses the headbutt on A-Train 5:15
- Finisher Melody at 5:35 (A-Train Bicycle Kick Benoit, Angle Slam
A-Train, FU Angle)
- FU on Benoit is escaped.
- Rolling Germans on A-Train at 7:00
- Benoit Swandive Headbutt A-Train (6:36)
- Wow, that actually worked?
- No problems between Benoit and Angle during the match, post match
handshake.
- Problems between Cena and A-Train, though. They have words, and A-Train
shoves. Pieface
- Cena responds with a low blow kick. FU. Fans cheer him, but aren't
sure if they're supposed to come aboard yet.
- Backstage, Vince paces and growls and smashes thing and makes Paul
Heyman and his new Yankee hat scared.
- He's very unhappy about the Buried Alive match.
- There won't be a Burred Alive match. He's going to kill the Undertaker
when he arrives.
- Heyman tells Vince that he gave Undertaker off till Survivor Series.
- Vince goes bit more crazy. This can't be good for his health.
- Vince: "You see, this is what's going to happen! Terrorists are
going to burn down the Undertaker's house! His children are going to be
kidnapped! His wife, she's going to be rapped by a motorcycle gang,
right in front of the Undertaker! That's the plan that I want
implemented, damnit, and you're going to do it, and you're going to do
it in fifteen minutes! And if you don't - you see these hands, you see
the hands? I'm going wrap right around your throat and I'm going to drag
you out in front of these people and I'm going to dig my fingers into
your flesh and I'm going to choke the life out of you!"
- Torrie gets ready for her costume match later by wearing a towel and
makeup
- She's trying to figure out her costume.
- Backstage, Kurt Angle catches up to Chris Benoit
- The microphone is a little way behind, but they catch up.
- Hey, dudes' you're not supposed to stare at them from the background.
- Angle asks Benoit to join his team.
- Benoit warns him that he could turn on Angle. But eventually says yes.
But they're not friends.
- Angle doesn't want friends, he wants to win.
- Paul shows up in Vince's office.
- I think they're carefully shooting this as not to reveal that the GM
office and Vince's office are the same
- Paul says he did nothing.
- Vince says he's a man of his word. He's going to kill Paul, then fire
him.
- Paul makes fun of Vince for dropping from feuding from Austin to one
legged men, Stephanie and now Paul.
- Paul wanted to work for the Vince that feuded with Austin and ran him
out of business and WCW out of business.
- US Government is brought up.
- This pep speech goes for a day and a half.
- It's the work-shoot stuff that some people liked, and some people used
to like before they got overfed it.
- Vince storms off
- Cole and Tazz recap the Paul/Vince bits.
- SmackDown! Live Tour footage
- WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri (w/Posse) joins the announcers
for the next match
- Cole gets a handshake, which surprises.
- Tajiri is scouting for his next opponent.
- His friends are "his friends"
- Rey Mysterio (San Diego, CA, 175 pounds) vs Ultimo Dragon (Nagoya,
Japan, 185 pounds)
- Tajiri is not scared of Rey Mysterio. Not at all. Nope.
- They do the Stare of Death
- Tajiri pronounces Ultimo Dragon "ok."
- Which is better than the bookers think, I guess.
- Rey's pants look like he's wearing Spanky's shorts over normal tights.
- Announce Points:
- Cole wants to know what was up with the Black Mist on Nidia.
- Tajiri says it was an accident. He's sorry.
- Tajiri goes into Japanese when he doesn't want to answer
questions.
- Tajiri doesn't understand why Noble is angry with him - he's
sorry.
- Tajiri would've beat Rey without the Red Mist.
- Tajiri is much much better than these two.
- At 2:30, Rey pushing off the Asai DDT caused Ultimo to bump Brian
Hebner, and Tajiri got off headset.
- This had the nice beginnings of a 15 minute match.
- Tajiri snuck on the apron to hit a snap kick to Rey's head.
- Ultimo, who was trying to make sure Brian was okay, turns around and
covered. (2:39)
- Story Announcers Miss: Tajiri makes sure Rey (who he isn't sure he can
beat) isn't a top contender with this loss.
- Post match, Tajiri and his Posse hit the ring and bow towards Ultimo,
but Dragon has had enough bad experiences with punks like these to get
involved.
- Tajiri seem relatively happy about this.
- Storyline guess: They're setting up Rey for down the line, and
didn't want to reveal their alliance yet.
- Brock and Big Show argue who's fault the loss was last week.
- They come to know conclusion except being loud.
- The only thing that stops it is a stage hand saying Paul wants to see
Brock in the ring.
- Paul Heyman walks to the ring, with?
- Nathan Jones and yet to be identified man (well, I know - but
let's wait)
- Heyman says Jones was given bad advice by the Undertaker (and now he
wants revenge)
- Man #2 is Matt Morgan - hyped as a #1 draft pick by Paul, and
compared to Brock Lesnar.
- No mention of him being on Tough Enough 2.
- Paul calls out Brock. We wonder if he's here to talk or to get
beatdown.
- Brock must be wondering too, because he stops before he gets to the
ring to talk.
- He's not getting in that ring to get beat up. He's not stupid.
- He brings out Big Show as backup.
- Four way staredown. Lesnar is the shortest man in the ring (that's not
Heyman.)
- With the facial hair he's got right now, Matt looks like the tallest
Anderson possible.
- Brock says he's always hated Paul, but he'll talk business. If he
talks fast.
- After some discussion, we elaborate that Paul is naming Brock captain
of the team.
- And the other three guys in the ring will be on his team.
- Brock likes it.
- Paul says two people have been calling him all week and trashing Brock
and Show all week.
- I imagine this is more shoot-work stuff
- They'll get a chance to prove them wrong this week - Brock/Show vs APA
- Brock wants to know why he should trust Brock.
- Paul says you're supposed to trust his greed.
- Everyone shakes hands.
- I guess Big Show and Nathan Joens are putting aside they're
differences.
- Dawn Marie shows off her costume tonight to Paul London and Orlando
Jordan, as they play the new SmackDown game
- London uses the distraction to his advantage. He's a real gamer.
- SmackDown #1 Announcer Undercover Brother Funaki sets up the Halloween
Trick or Treat Match:
- Torrie Wilson (bunny) vs Dawn Marie (wonder woman)
- Because she's a Playboy bunny. In case you haven't heard.
- Tazz: "I'm not looking at her carrots, believe me."
- Funaki disco dances to Torrie's music.
- Fans vote for the best costume.
- I'm so ticked at Tajiri because Nidia's not here. Nidia's always
awesome in these things.
- Cole: "Something's about red boots and tight shorts"
- He misses Billy and Chuck
- Your winner is Torrie Wilson
- Part 2: Bobbing For Apples.
- They've got a trough filled with chocolate and apples.
- Dawn would like to go first.
- She needs Funaki's help take her boots off.
- Tazz to Cole: "I know you like a bob."
- Ah, Dawn goes right in takes a bath.
- Dawn takes her top off in the chocolate, stands up, and shakes it
around.
- She's covered in the thick chocolate, so we can't see much.
- Tazz decides to hijack the segment.
- Dawn looks good, Torrie looks good, Tazz wants to Torrie to help him
Trick Funaki.
- Torrie feeds Fuanki a carroot, then rips off his shirt (as they move
towards the trough)
- Torrie gives him the choice, and Fuanki wants a treat.
- So Torie moves in - and shoves Tazz into the tub o' choclate!
- Torrie laughs as she gets away. Funaki gets away chocolate free.
- Cole can't stop laughing.
- Tazz is covered.
- Backstage, Brock catches up to Cena as he leaving.
- Brock thinks Cena is going to be named as the fifth member of his
team, but he's not sure.
- Cena doesn't seem to be sure himself, though he doesn't get a reaction
sentence.
- You get the feeling he'll be in the match, sure, but on which team?
- Tazz returns the desk
- and gives Cole a big ol' hug.
- Backstage, Chavo is really disappointed in Eddie.
- Lost the US Title, but that's fine because it has nothing to do with
Chavo
- Lost the Tag Team Titles, and that's wrong because that's half Chavo's.
- Letting the family down, let the Latino People down, let Chavo down.
- Chavo: "Don't you love me, bro?"
- Chavo: "You're sinking low, just like you did when you were on
drugs and alcohol."
- Chavo can't even look at him.
- Eddie owes Chavo a public apology. The family. The people.
- Eddie says...nothing, as Chavo walks away.
- He seems disgusted.
- Hey, that was the same exact spot where Angle and Benoit were talking.
- Look back to last week, where Eddie got beat for the WWE Tags.
- Eddie Guerrero, downcast, comes to the ring
- Chavo wants a public apology?
- Chavo's right - he's got a lot to be sorry for, because he lost two
titles in one week.
- He let Chavo down, he let La Raza down, he let his family down.
- He's sorry, Chavo.
- He's sorry, family.
- He's sorry, people.
- "When I come out in front of you, I give my heart out here! And
if that is not what I have done lately, I apologize!"
- EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE
- "Now, Chavito, you said something back there [Spanish] it hurt!
Because if anyone has seen me battle day in and day out this damn
disease of alcohol and drugs, it's been you, Vato! This is not a game
for me, Ese. This not a match. This is life! I can't being myself to
understand [to fan] You're right esse, right now, I do suck! I deserve
that! But I can't bring myself to understand, Chavito, is why you would
bring something up loike that, man? Why you would say something like
that to me, esse? Maybe it's because you feel I'm weak, and maybe I am.
Maybe I am in a weak state, esse. Two titles. One week. It's okay esse.
Maybe it's good that you brought up, because when you bring something
like that up, ese, it brings back a lot. It brings back a lot of
memories and it brings back memories of what I did when I was down in
that hell, ese, vato. I didn't get out of that whole by feeling sorry
for myself, ese. I see hope, and maybe that's all I got, but I'll take
that, and I'll hold onto it ese, and I'll hold on to the words of My
Father, Gory Guerrero, what he told me - 'Son', he said, 'the character
of a man is not by defined when he's on top, it's defined on how he
picks himself up every time he's been knocked down'! Chavito, I'm going
not gonna give it up, esse vato, oh no, that's not the Latino style,
esse, no me vato, no me famila [Spanish] I'm gonna fight baby! I'm going
fight for you, Chavito! Because I have faith, that I will be a champion,
and I have faith that we will stand here proud again, ese vato,
camponetas, tag team champions of the world, ode la vato! I do it for
you Chavo, I'll do it for me, ese vato! For me famila! for La Raza! Viva
La Raza!"
- EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE
- Shaniqua appears at the top of the ramp with the tag team
belts, and walking to the ring.
- "What have we got here? A mamacita wannabe!"
- Eddie tells Shaniqua to wait. Warns her that if she steps in the ring,
she better be ready to take on his Latino Heat.
- Shaniqua gets to steps, but the Bashams have attacked form
behind.
- Or not, as Eddie goes House On Fire on both of them.
- Shaniqua takes a painful looking hiptoss in. Everyone not Eddie gets
laid out. Shaniqua takes a back suplex too.
- Eddie goes for the Frog Splash, but Eddie knocks him off the top rope.
- The numbers finally work as Eddie gets his shirt ripped off and choked
with it.
- Thrown into the steps. Where is Chavo?
- Announcers are saying Eddie can't find a break.
- After the Bashams are done with Eddie and checking on Shaniqua, Chavo
is out to help Eddie up and to safety.
- Going up?
- Backstage, Eddie is getting checked on in the trainers office
- Paul shows up and Eddie starts yelling at him.
- He wants the Bashams. Next week, right now, whenever.
- Paul says it's a clean slate with him now. Everyone starts off.
- Paul says he sees a match with the Bashams next week, and if the
Basham's are beat, title shot.
- But it's not Eddie and Chavo, it's Eddie vs the Bashams in a handicap
match.
- Eddie doesn't take it well.
- Josh asks Kurt Angle what he thinks of Brock's team.
- Cena is still hyped as rumored.
- Angle lets us know he's got a new member of his team - Hardcore
Holly.
- He wants revenge on Brock, and he's one of the toughest guys in the
WWE.
- Kurt knows his last two guys, and points us to take a look - at two
random backstage workers
- Ah, we were supposed to turn and look and see the APA
- Bradshaw uses Frooty Booty to scare off Josh.
- So I guess Cena can't be jumping teams?
- Announcers check themselves for chocolate
- Tazz has cleaned himself off with a towel somewhat, and uses it on
Cole.
- They hype the two teams
- Brock/Show/Morgan/Nathan/Cena???? vs Angle/Benoit/APA/Holly
- Survivor Series: Undertaker vs Mr. McMahon - Buried Alive
- Sit down conversation with the Undertaker to explain his reasoning
- Undertaker says the beating was worth it. And they'll have to pay in
time.
- Undertaker says there's nothing more he wants to be than to be the
Five Time WWE Champion.
- But that won't happen as long as Vince is around. So Vince must die.
- WWE Champion Brock Lensar (Minneapolis, MN, 295 pounds) and WWE US
Champion Big Show (500 pounds) -
- Brock Lensar and Big Show vs the APA (576 pounds)
- Clothesline from Hell on Big Show at 2:30, but enough is going on that
it takes a while to count.
- Brock gives Faarooq shortly after (DQ 3:11) and that's that.
- Beatdown.
- Angle and Benoit show up for the save.
- Morgan and Jones save there.
- Morgan uses a sitdown powerbomb.
- Jones uses a release gutwrench powerbomb.
- Four man pose to end. Cena is notable by his nonappearance.
- I'm SURE that Cena won't end up being on the same page as the rest
of his team
- But does he turn before? During? Onto Angle's team? No idea.
