WWE SmackDown! - 10/23/03
Taped:
10/21/03
Albany, NY
- Recap of the hype for Stephanie/Vince and the match itself.
- Vince and Sable are out to gloat.
- Nothing bothers Vince, because he knows he's going to hell anyway.
- Vince celebrated beating Stephanie by making Val Venis jokes with
Sable.
- He's also happy that Brock is still champ.
- Vince gets to rhyming.
- I take time to notice that Sable has one of her ugliest outfits in
quite some time.
- Anyway, the new GM won't be Sable, because Vince has other jobs for
her.
- The new GM is someone who tried to put Vince out of business and
someone you want to strangle if you spend time with him.
- He's also creative and manipulative.
- He's Paul Heyman.
- Paul's lost weight. He looks closer to his WCW days rather than the
busting belly of recent vintage.
- Still has the NY hat.
- Paul gets in all of two sentences before Undertaker shows up to
interrupt.
- Black tape around the midsection.
- Vince takes off, not waiting for Sable to follow
- She does.
- Paul says Undertaker could kill him right now, but he's the only hope
Undertaker has.
- Paul will give Undertaker revenge.
- Tonight: Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar/Big Show.
- To prevent Undertaker from killing him, he gets to pick a match, a
time, a place, and opponent, and Paul will give it t ohim.
- Undertaker takes the match, because he knows somehow he'll win and get
his revenge.
- No one has any idea how sick, twisted and maniacal he can be.
- Later: Los Guerreros vs The World's Greatest Tag Team for the WWE Tags
- John Cena (West Newbury, MA, 248 pounds, Barry Sanders OK ST) and
A-Train (Boston, MA, 350 pounds) vs Kurt Angle (Pittsburgh, PA, 237 pounds)
and Chris Benoit (Edmonton, AB, 229 pounds)
- Cena says now's the time that he should show respect to Angle for
beating him - but that's a punk move.
- He rather hit Angle in the face, and beat up anyone in his way.
- Rematches from No Mercy.
- Cena's using the Michinoku Driver, and Tazz is calling it.
- Announcers discuss
- Benoit landing on a chair badly at No Mercy
- Is Paul Heyman good or bad for SmackDown!?
- Benoit using the Sharpshooter a bunch now
- Both Angle and Benoit gets submissions on their No Mercy opponents,
only to get it broken up.
- Cena goes for the chain at 3:45, distracting Brian Hebner.
- A-Train goes for a chair, using the distraction, but Benoit grabs it
before he can hit angle.
- Benoit tries to hit A-Train, A-Train dodges and Angle takes it.
- Benoit manages to slip Angle out of the ring, but Angle comes to, remembers
what just happened, and tries to kill Benoit with the chair.
- They push and shove, and start to brawl.
- Benoit gets the Crossface on Angle, Angle taps, and they call the
match? (4:32)
- Cena and A-Train melted away here.
- Referees are out to separate the tag team partners.
- Announcers go over the history between the two as they start fighting
again.
- Benoit slips out of the ring to escape the anklelock, and they seem to
be able to keep them separated for now.
- Announcers speculate Paul Heyman's presence alone has stirred things
up.
- Announcers talk about Nidia getting sprayed with black mist
- That was the Subway recap bit.
- They must be so proud.
- Nidia's vision is still not back.
- Earlier this week, Jamie Noble recorded an interview on his web cam
- Actually, Jamie says it's Nidia's web cam
- "She likes to go on the web and have her little fun"
- ANYWAY, Jamie's inherited near-million isn't important anymore now
that Nidia's blind.
- Nidia might get surgery to restore her sight
- Remember me to make a joke later if she comes back with bigger
breasts or something.
- Jamie says thanks for the well wishes.
- If Nidia doesn't come out of this okay "Tajiri, so help me god,
so help me god"
- Charlie and Shelton converse in the locker room
- Shelton apparently missed the open, because he didn't know that Paul
Heyman was back.
- Paul shows up to shake hands and hug.
- But they're INSINCERE HUGS!!!! because TWGTT didn't call him in the
hospital.
- Paul's a vengeanful and a vindictive guy, so no tag team title match for
them.
- Instead, the Bashams get the title shots.
- We tease a match here.
- Paul says he's not firing Charlie and Shelton.
- Instead, they get to fight a popular tag team reformed by Paul.
- Next.
- Vince and Sable say hi from their sky box.
- Stu Hart Tribute
- The World's Greatest Tag Team (489 pounds) vs ???
- They're still in their warmup gear, but they have their tights
underneath
- Ah, it's Too Cool (Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi - no weight given)
- I wonder if Scotty still has issues with Albert.
- Scott's mustache looks like it's been hanging out with Val in the
meantime.
- They weren't really a tag team before, but eh.
- Cole does mention that Scotty was out a year and half with an injured
neck, but doesn't say who.
- We also mention Shelton being out a month due to knee surgery.
- Announcers push that it's hard to go against a team when you've
prepared for another one.
- Scotty works in peril for most of the match.
- Hot tag to Rikishi. Rikishi is moving slow
- Charlie breaks up one attempt of the worm on Shelton, but Scotty gets
another shortly after.
- Everyone stills knows the sound effects.
- Stinkface for Charlie.
- Shelton tries a sunset flip on Rikishi. That's the lack of scouting
right there. Rikishi sits down for 3. (4:01)
- Dance time. Rikishi has the top hat, Scotty has his bucket hat, if he
can keep it on.
- Vince and Sable are dancing. ARGH.
- Taker saves us all by killing the security guard manning the door and
attempting to kill Vince next.
- Taker nicely brought a mic with him.
- Taker just wanted to tell Vince he's not such a big man.
- If Taker doesn't win his match, he's going to kill Vince.
- Eddie gets his back cuts tended to in the back
- Chavo shoos the trainer away to give a pep speech for their tag team
title match.
- Chavo needs him Eddie fired up.
- Eddie doesn't seemed fired up.
- Until Chavo pushes him.
- the Basham Brothers (Columbus, OH, 495 pounds, w/Shaniqua) vs Los
Guerreros (El Paso, TX, 441 pounds, c) for the WWE Tag Team Titles
- during their entrance, the camera is only interested in Shaniqua.
- Chavo took off his shirt between the pre-match skit and now.
- Recap of how Eddie's back/shoulder got cut up last week.
- Cole figures Big Show won the title via that assault.
- Announcers points
- Eddie has 35 pieces of glass in his back after last week.
- Bashams are wacky
- Shaniqua keeps interfering.
- Not much hype for any ongoing APA/Basham's issue
- End sequences starts with Eddie giving Doug the triple suplex.
- Meantime, Chavo pescados Danny, but ends up getting thrown into the
stairs.
- Shaniqua throws Danny the Magic Stick (or at least in the general
direction of Danny - bad toss.)
- Shaniqua distracts Eddie while he's going for the Frog Splash.
- Eddie gets rid of her, but misses Danny pushing Doug out and taking
his spot, with the Magic Stick.
- Eddie goes back up for the Frog Splash, but Danny moves, Eddie rolls
out of it, but Danny kills him with the Magic Stick anyway.
- 3 count. (7:57) New Champions.
- No one mentions it, but Guerreros having to fight new opponents at the
last second should've hurt their chances.
- Josh gets a word with the new champs - they're happy.
- Shaniqua says it's time to celebrate.
- Replay of the tag win.
- During the break, Chavo was ticked that Eddie lost his match.
- WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri (Japan, 206 pounds) vs Zach Gowen
(southwest Detroit, 159 pounds) in a non-title match
- Zach's win was "his first major win".
- Zach already has his own shirt.
- Usual Zach stuff.
- Crowd gives a USA chant.
- Tajiri's plan seems to use different moves than he normally does to
make Zach look good.
- Zach missed the moonsault and Tajiri hit the reverse thrust kick for
the win. (3:32)
- Tajiri signals to the crowd, and the guys who ran in at No Mercy hit
the ring.
- They raise Tajiri's arms and open the ropes for Tajiri.
- But Tajiri thinks twice at leaving -Zach's up, so Tajiri signals to
them - double forward heel trip/takedown thingy.
- Zach's dead, no matter what I should've called it
- Big Show and Brock their match tonight and who's the better champion
- Recap of Lesnar/Holly from 09/12/02
- We focus on Brock breaking Hardcore's neck.
- Hardcore: "You didn't finish the finish the job!"
- He's coming back to end Brock's career.
- Hawk Tribute
- WWE Champion Brock Lesnar (Minneapolis, MN, 295 pounds) and WWE US
Champion Big Show (500 pounds) vs the Undertaker (Houston, TX, 305 pounds)
- 9609
- Tag rules. This match is so interesting, we pan slowly to Vince and
Sable at one point.
- Big Show gives a chokeslam at 4:30, but falls in his corner and Brock
covers - about a 5 second delay - before Undertaker gives up.
- Brock tells Big Show to go up.
- Everyone's a big confused, but Show does it.
- We presume he wanted a spike piledriver, but we never get that far
- Undertaker backdrops out of the setup, pounds Brock out of the ring,
and gives Show a top rope choketoss.
- One two three (5:20)
- Paul interrupts because we still have 20 minutes left in the
show.
- This is now a two out of three falls match
- Break at 5:59
- Undertaker is battering Brock as we come back.
- All three end up brawling into the crowd around 7:34.
- Taker ends up knocking both guys over the barricade and beating the
count. (CO 8:19)
- Paul makes it a No Countout match.
- Big Show comes in an chair shots Undertaker (DQ 9:42)
- See, Big Show was smart, because he knows the next thing Paul is going
to is make it No DQ anyway.
- Paul makes it a No Disqualification match
- Undertaker manages to sneak the chain around his fist and get thrown
in the ring by the Big Show
- There's no way Show couldn't have seen it, but we're supposed to
pretend he didn't.
- Brock goes for the F5, Undertaker slips out, chain to the head, chain to Show's head, one two three
(10:42)
- For some reason, Paul doesn't just make it a 3 out of 5 fall match or
something. What a moron.
- Undertaker takes forever celebrating and leaving and gets punked out
for it.
- Brock and Show get to make up for the offense they didn't
- After a long drawn out bit, we find out that Undertaker's match is
at Survivor Series, Buried Alive, versus Vince McMahon
- Vince is dispeleased.
