Taped: 08/05/03
Skyreach Place, British Columbia
- Recap
- Open
- There's a CAGE.
- Announcers explain why it's there, while we hear "theme from the
Cage"
- This opening shot got them out of fireworks for the week.
- Here's the graphic - Brock/Vince in a cage with Kurt as a cage
- They're lucky that Angle has a only slightly moving video so they
can stick the ref shirt on top of him
- Cena vs Undertaker
- US Champion Eddie Guerrero (El Paso, TX, 228 pounds) vs Chris Benoit
(Edmonton, AB, 229 pounds) in a non-title match
- Lowrider, check.
- Stephanie is out again this week, recovering from her injuries. She's
expected back next week.
- Eddie refused to make this a title match, so there you go.
- They are in Canada, after all.
- Cole's story is Eddie is telling people Benoit has to earn a shot
at the title
- #1 contenders match against Rhyno, I guess.
- Canadian crowd strongly in favor of Benoit this week.
- Mat to start.
- I kinda know where this is going, so that's why I'm not bothering with
much here.
- Maybe I should try harder to avoid spoilers?
- but then I'd be ticked later.
- Lots of stuff we've seen previously from these two.
- Eddie pulls of the Santo/Dragon headstand headscissors
- Eddie back elbow leads to the Hilo. Two.

knees to the midsection and a big powerbomb.
- Thumb.
- Swandive - wait, here's Rhyno to shove him off.
- Eddie's all okay with it, going up himself.
- Frog Splash - sorts hits, Benoit rolling but not quick and far enough.
- We pretend it doesn't hit.
- Benoit off the ropes, and tope for Rhyno.
- While they're down, Tajiri apparently jumps out of the crowd
in front of the announcers.
- Wheel kick for Eddie right in front of Choida.
- He looks at that, looks outside, and calls for the bell. (6:55)
- It might be a NC or a DQW for Eddie, no announcement.
- Probably should be an Eddie DQW, but that look was to make us think
NC
- Referees attempt to break up the two fights going on. Agents are out
too.
- Slaughter and Garea.
- If you're not paying attention, Chimel wanders over...
- As it turns out, to give Slaughter a microphone
- And he sorta looks like Regal. Bad camera angle.
- Sgt. Slaugther, by the powers invested in him
- Which means "absolutely nothing and we're making this up on
the fly"
- Waves the DQ, and continues the match as a tag match.
- Why didn't they just have (effective) Senior Referee Mike Choida
do that himself? It would have been at least plausible, because referees
do have a history of that kind of stuff.
- Eddie Guerrero and Rhyno vs Chris Benoit and Tajiri
- Already in progress. Rhyno is being whipped into the corner by Benoit
as we return.
- Benoit is very sweaty.
- Whip, reverse, reversed into the Crossface. Eddie breaks it up, so
Benoit knocks him down.
- And Rhyno knocks Benoit down. Stomps.
- Rhyno tags in Eddie. Hold for a kick.
- Eddie runs Benoit back first in the corner. Setting him up on the top
rope - 'rana!
- Slow to cover one two Tajiri breaks it up.
- Whip, Benoit ducks the back elbow, dropkick to the shin, both need a
tag.
- Tags to both men - Tajiri ducks the Rhyno clothesline and hits his back thrust kick.
- Kick for Eddie, whip, reversed, Tajiri 'rana
- Rhyno up and kicking, powerbomb no Tajiri escapes on his feet
- Rhyno somehow remains in control enough to get in a kick, whip and Tajiri
is back with the handspring elbow.
- Rhyno spins around, catches Eddie with the punch and kick fully.
- Eddie's knocked down, but Rhyno runs Tajiri over with a clothesline.
- Corner whip, Rhyno charges in, and Tajiri kips up before locking on the
Tarantula.
- Benoit wants in and after Eddie, so the Tarantula isn't being let go
yet.
- Eddie breaks it up with a sliding dropkick to Tajiri's face.
- Choida tells Eddie to use the tag ropes, but Eddie's on the outside
taunting the fans.
- Rhyno up. Stomp.
- Benoit chant.
- Side back breaker.
- Stomp.
- Tajiri reaching for at g but Rhyno pulling him back.
- Snap mare, kick to the back.
- Rhyno Sharpshooter? Wow.
- Small Eddie chant but they're drowned out.
- Fans boo
- Benoit breaks it up with a right hand.
- Eddie and Rhyno make the non-tag switch, and Eddie puts on a half crab
- Choida turns around, notices the switch, and tells Benoit he heard
a tag when he argues.
- Eddie did clap his hands.
- Tajiri isn't giving, but he isn't going anywhere.
- "EDDIE SUCKS"
- Tajiri gets the ropes.
- Eddie with stomps.
- Back drop, no Tajiri turns it into a headscissors.
- Tajiri crawling for a tag, so Eddie pops up and knocks Benoit off the
apron.
- Tajiri drawn back into Eddie's corner for a tag to Rhyno.
- Benoit in and trying to get at them, but he's eventually cut off by
Choida.
- Rhyno slowly kicks and stomps. He's in no hurry. Eddie antgonizes Benoit.
- Rhyno distracts so Eddie can choke him on the bottom rope.
- When he's done, he acts like he's fixing the ring apron to explain
why he's down there.
- Benoit chant as Tajiri unsucessfuly tries to punch free.
- Slam, off the ropes, falling headbutt by Rhyno.
- Right. Tajiri back with a kick. And another. But Rhyno stops him with
a knee. Pose.
- Stomp.
- Tag to Eddie. Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. Punches to the
head.
- Tajiri gets a turnbuckle smash into the corner.
- Corner whip, Eddie rushes into a back elbow. Both up and staggered.
- Eddie charges, and Tajiri backdrops him to the floor.
- Tajiri has an opening for the tag - but Rhyno (eventually) shoves him
down, and Knocks Benoit off the apron.
- Announcers, and Choida, notice that the tag was made.
- Rhyno with a powerbomb on Tajiri, but where's Benoit?
- Tazz says that Sgt. Slaughter is the WWE Head Referee. That's new.
- But at least explains who that happened.
- Rhyno's asked to leave the ring, not being the legal man.
- He notices Eddie down on the outside and goes after Tajiri.
- Green Mist! Benoit with a German suplex (release) on Rhyno!
- Eddie back in and up - top rope frog splash hits!
- Benoit pulls him off - Crossface!
- Eddie taps! (7:29)
- The story is that Eddie didn't see the tag to Benoit, and didn't realize
that he was the legal man when he went for the frog splash on Tajiri.
He could've maybe hit Benoit instead.
- Benoit wants the belt, but this wasn't close to being a title match.
- Benoit stomps around the ring, but we see no more.
- Josh Mathews talks to Kurt Angle
- Rumor has it -
- "Whoa whoa, rumor? Don't talk to me about rumors. Hell, I heard
about a rumors about you, scotch tape, a banana, two midgets, Budgy the
Whale, and an 8x10 of Justin Timberlake that still keeps me awake at night!
Sicko. [Josh half nods] The point is, I don't deal in rumor, I deal in fact. And the fact
is Brock Lesnar F5 me last week for no reason whatsoever. Why, because
I beat the Big Show and he didn't? What's the difference - we were a team!
So, yeah, I was a little upset about it. But I still consider Brock Lesnar
my friend. A big angry stupid friend sometimes, but a friend nonetheless,
and friends don't let issues go unresolved. Which is why I'm going to
find Brock tonight, and we're going to resolve our issues, face to face."
- Matt Hardy (Version One) is out to be a special guest commentator.
- Shannon Moore is out to stand around with him.
- Matt Facts: Matt puts ketchup on one fry at a time. Matt is a better
commentator than Michael Cole.
- That last one is Tazz's favorite Matt Fact ever.
- Matt's got a new purple shirt, according to the Shopzone ad.
- Oh wait, they actually give Shannon a headset.
- Matt wastes no time in reminding Cole that he call Matt an ass last
week. Feeling is mutual, it turns out.
- Zach Gowen (South Detroit, 159 pounds, 10) vs Nunzio (Queens, NY, 201
1/4 pounds, w/the FBI, 4)
- I guess Matt was really desperate for a feud.
- Matt was defending himself last week - he got hit in the face, so he
defended himself.
- to Cole: "I'm sure if someone hit you in the face, you'd cower
away and run like the little girl you are."
- Shannon: "Yea, the little girl you are!"
- Tazz: "Yea, the little girl you are!"
- It's not easy being Cole.
- No sleep till he gets a win.
- Wait, Sparks throws out Chuck and Johnny before the match?
- He's worried about THEM interfering and not the two guys at the
desk?
- Maybe that's out of his jurisdiction.
- Tough to be Chuck and Johnny lately.
- Nunzio enjoys acting like he's going for a takedown
- Mat wrestling. Eh.
- Matt has a problem with the principle behind Zach Gowen.
- What has Zach Gowen done to be in the WWE the same level as a Matt
Hardy
- Matt worked for 10 years. 10 years! 10 YEARS!
- Nunzio's entertaining himself by grabbing the leg and pretending to
sweep out the non-existent one.
- Matt says Zach is here because "he's a sideshow freak that we're
supposed to feel sorry for - and that's not fair to Matt Hardy (Version
One)"
- Zach manages to get a bow and arrow, but Nunzio eventually gets to the
ropes.
- Cole says Shannon got pushed to the limit last week.
- Shannon asks who won that match.
- Hey Zach, you might want to hook a leg.
- Matt says Shannon is more talented than Zach's ever been, Zach's only
getting more credit because he has one leg.
- Shannon says he's got more moves than a moonsault.
- Yea, the corkscrew moonsault
- Zach's clothesline sells is still spectacular.
- Cole asks if Zach has Mattitude. Matt says that just because you're
special doesn't mean you have Mattitude.
- I imagine I see Nunzio trying to clip the non-existent leg, but it doesn't
really happen.
- Matt: "Everyone knows that Matt's career has more legs under it
than Zach's - pun intended."
- Nunzio goes through great effort to crotch himself on the ropes.
- Ah, so Zach can do a moonsault guillotine.
- Shannon and Tazz note it's the moonsault
- Matt's mad that Zach's taking Matt (Version One)'s opportunities.
- Zach gets a couple near falls and hits his swinging neckbreaker.
- Matt: "Same Mattitude, different day."
- They're off headset.
- Zach going for the moonsault, Shannon and Matt get on aprons to trap
him.
- Sparks cuts off Matt, and Zach dives to take out Shannon with a top
rope back elbow.
- Zach turns to check Matt and doesn't see Nunzio - second rope dropkick
to the head. (3:59)
- I don't know Nunzio can do the springboard armbar on Zach - that'd be a lot of weight on one leg.
- Matt gets the psycho look and approaches Zach, who's being checked on by Mike Sparks.
- Matt pushes Sparks out of the way.
- Matt pushes Zach down with his foot repetitive.
- V1
- Twist O' Fate.
- Cole: "Why is Matt Hardy doing this?"
- Me: "YOU ARE A MORON"
- Double V1

little party.
- Undertaker thought he saw every low trick Vince had in him.

out of Vince.

and he's going to prove in with Vince tonight.

I'm a real main eventer. You just a counterfeit

- Ah, Undertaker had to go find his bike.

again. Cena's thrown down.
- Cena tries to go out, but Undertaker has him by the boot and pulls him.

have done that by himself.
- Jamie Noble (Hanover, WV, 200 pounds, w/Nidia) vs Doug Basham (Columbus,
245 pounds, w/Danny Basham and Shaniqua)
- Recap of the end bits of the Torrie/Noble/Nidia/Gunn stuff

- Brock will wrestle tonight, despite the punk out.
- I think Jamie's the face, because that's how they're wrestling the match.
- Doug is better than Danny. For sure.
- Tazz goes on a weird digression trying to draw everyone involved
in a weird sex scene.
- He's bored with this match too.
- Doug firmly in control.
- Jamie gets the dragon screw leg whip for the first time in forever,
but sadly does not go into the Trailer Hitch.

- Is he responsible for the attack?
- He had nothing to do with it - when he got here, Brock was down. He
didn't have anything to do with him.
- He still wants to talk to Brock, but he figured Brock is pretty ticked
off now - so they'll wait and talk later.
- Kurt feels Josh thinks he did it.
- Next Week: Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman vs the Worlds Greatest Tag Team
for the WWE Tag Team Titles
- WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio (San Diego, CA, 175 pounds) vs
WWE Tag Team Champion Charlie Haas (241 pounds, w/Shelton Benjamin) in a non-title
match
- No Kidman? Cole explains he's on his honeymoon.
- That explains why no Torrie before with Gunn.
- No one mentions Torrie or even discusses the wife.
- Haas lost his hometown?
- WM XX logo.
- The level of match you'd expect from these two given the amount of time.
- Charlie is better than Shelton, but Shelton has more interesting spots.
- Haas works the chest and back, including a surfboard around the middle
ropes.
- Cole: "I don't know what to believe anymore."
- Haas used a bearhug. It looked as good as a bearhug ever looks.
- Haas uses a shoulder rack back breaker.
- A Torture Rack facing backwards.
- Or maybe a surfboard with Haas' head as the knee.
- Tazz: "That's shades of that luchador Atlantis".
- I had to listen to that three times to be sure I wasn't losing my
mind.
- My initial reaction was "whoa, Tazz knows CMLL?"
- My reaction now is "hmm, wonder if he just wanted a non-Luger
way to call this move"
- Haas does the drop down to the knees to finish, but goes for a pin
and only gets 2.
- Cole thinks Mysterio is a freaking moron for accepting this match.
- Haas accidentally posts himself in the ring.
- Rey hits a slingshot Molly Go Round

- Tazz says Rey is amazing and an egnima
- Jumping enziguri leads to a flip off Haas's back and the 619.
- WCP is ducked under.
- 'rana is reversed into the Haas of Pain. Rey is standing on his head
while taking it.
- Rey has no help, and taps. (5:00)
- Clean.
- Theme from a Cage.
- Earlier Tonight: Brock being laid out.
- Where did Funaki go here?
- And Angle's denial.
- That cage lowers slowly.
- rock walks to the ring, trying to stretch his neck.
- There's Mr. McMahon's office.
- And out comes Kurt Angle.
- Announcers are all WHAT
- Cage is set it up.
- Special Guest Referee WWE Champion Kurt Angle is out first.
- He brings his belt with him. Leaves it with the timekeeper.
- Blue ref shirt with no sleeves.
- He's wearing shorts.
- Mr. McMahon (Greenwich, CT, 245 pounds) vs Brock Lesnar (Minneapolis,
MN, 295 pounds) in a cage match
- 245 pounds?
- Cole says Vince has been screwing around with Brock for months.
- This is way too late for me too look that up.
- Vince wants a handshake from Angle, but is denied.
- Brock gets paid for every time he grabs his neck or stretches it some
way.
- I think Brock is disappointed that he has to use the stairs instead
of doing the hops.
- Angle locks the cage as Brock and Vince go face to face. Angle separates
them.
- Angle explains the rules to them - pinfall, submission or escape.
- Lockup, Vince thrown down.
- Again.
- Taunting Vince.
- Vince charges, clothesline is ducked, and Brock kicks him.
- Fireman's carry lift, but before the F5 can be hit, Brock looses his
balance, drops Vince to his feet and collapses to the mat.
- Kurt looks at Vince, then looks at Brock.
- They both seem surprised.
- Brock seems out.
- Vince wants to know what's going on, and Angle checks on Brock.
- I believe Vince asks if he's still breathing, and wants to get the pin
after he finds out Brock is alive.
- Vince is quite forceful in the one two three.
- Vince rolls Brock over to cover, but Angle isn't paying any attention
to him.
- Vince gives up and argues, then asks for a three count again.
- Angle instead signals to the back for some help.
- Vince gets in his face and shoves him.
- Angle is appalled. And Vince slapping him doesn't help.
- Vince again covers, so Angle puts on the Anklelock and drags him off.
- Vince taps out, but Brock is kipping up.
- F5. We'll call the match there (NC 2:42) although calling
it a match is a bit of a stretch.
- Brock picks up Vince, and they both smile and laugh.
- Brock gets to beating down Angle - thrown into the side of the cage,
and then the opposite side.
- You can totally tell Angle's going for the blade as he drops to
the mat.
- Only a ring rope in the exact right place keeps it from being totally
exposed.
- Kurt's shirt is ripped off.
- Into the cage again.
- Vince has gone out to get Kurt's belt.
- Into the cage again.
- Run head first into the cage.
- Angle must've not got his forehead good the first time, because he's
covering his forehead while he's down again.
- Vince gives Brock the title, and tells Brock "it's yours! This
is yours! You own this! He doesn't! This is yours! Yours and mine! Yours
and mine!"
- Oh look Angle is bleeding.
- Belt to the head.
- Brock yells to Angle that the belt is his, as he pushes it in Angle's
face.
- Press and toss into the cage.
- Angle dragged into the center of the ring, so Brock can pin him with
a foot and Vince and Brock can raise their arms together.
- Hug.
- Replays.
- So why was Angle in Vince's office?
- Only we and the announcers saw it.
- It's a red herring that probably won't be followed up on, I guess.
- Angle gets his belt back and crawls to the ropes as Brock and Vince
pose on the stage at the end.
