Urban America Pro Wrestling - 12/17/01
No, this isn't the Urban Wrestling group that was on syndicated TV in a few places and made noise a few times about trying to get on BET. This is Windy City Pro Wrestling's sister promotion (both owned by Sam DeCero), with primarily minority wrestlers and personalities. WCPW and UAPW will eventually alternate weeks on their Monday 11:30p WJYS slot (for those of you in Chicago), but like the WCPW recaps of the last two weeks, this is just an introduction to the names and the players. Okay? Okay.
Open.
Sam DeCero intros and explains and hypes. This week, the co-host is Geremel "GQ" Quinn, who talks about how he came from the west coast just to be a part of the great thing that is UAPW. Back to Battle of the Belts 2000 to see one of the stars of UAPW in action: Willie "the Bomb" Richardson vs the Polish Crippler. (Hint: The Polish guy is not in UAPW.)
I learned my lesson from last week not to treat this clips like they're matches. Richardson is one of a number of people who work both promotions. UAPW is newer, so bringing in more veteran talent from WCPW was probably needed, plus it's probably cheaper not to have two totally complete and separate rosters if you can distinguish the two promotions some other way. This is for the WCPW Heavyweight Title. Boy, that ring is bouncy looking. It shaking on punches! Must be powerful punches. Or maybe he stomps the foot? Nah. I don't know what the point of that move was. Of course, this match actually goes long and I think we get most of it when I give up doing play by play. Maybe I should watch the show before I recap? Nah. Richard T. Sin is the ineffective manager of Crippler. Bomb hits his top rope legdrop and wins the title; he'd hold it till that match at the 2001 Battle of the Belts we saw last week. "Ghetto Superstar" Willie has GREAT music and I hope you can figure out what it is.

Auto Parts and nothing else this break, I guess.
DeCero says that Willie may be a tough and big man, but he's got two other things in his favor, Cinnamon (his valet) and Riot (his manager? buddy? dunno.) GQ talks about his friend Delight but not Sports Entertainment. Would be good to show pictures or explain who these people are so I don't have to. Also, I'm still begging for graphics. Heck, have some kid hold up a poster in front of the camera with the name of the person at least. I bet Delight is spelled some funky way that I don't know and won't know unless they tell me. Anyway, we get some footage of Delight here, good.
Delight's a highflying cruiserweight - watch him do the Tiger Flip in the corner. I've seen the other guy but I don't remember his name. Nice punches, at any rate. Better than your average indy cruiserweight. Neo, maybe? And he's got a friend name Rue that's stomping Delight down on the outside. Nice floatover DDT by Delight. Your commentators are decent. Delight's clothesline misses don't look so great. Slingshot senton but I don't think they'd hype Delight by showing a match where he lost. Kickout. Sleeper, but one announcer claims it's a choke. They keep saying it like it might be "D. Light" but I dunno. Elbow out and now he gets his own sleeper on. Pokerface? That sounds like a mean nickname. There's a ref bump, you always want to showcase that. They'd probably been better just ending it after the Tiger Flip at this rate. Wait, he's going up after a slam - oh just a flying elbow. Smartly, they cut out just as Rue comes into cause the DQ - better not to see the finish.

GQ welcomes us back. Every Monday Night! Let's look at the tag team scene, in fact 2000CC vs Los Mexicanos vs WCPW's Warlocks from Battle of the Belts 2001
I remember getting the build to this and thinking it had to do with 2000CC's UAPW Tag Team Titles but I guess not. Los Mexiacnos are Rudo Cortez and Eddie Cruz, and I forget 2000CC's names are, but they're black. That helps a lot, I'm sure. So are Delight and Willie "The Bomb" and I guess I need to work on my descriptions. I should go to the website and check but if this is an introduction show, they need to go out of their way to tell me, instead of the other way around. Odd choice to get your talent over when whoever is doing the commentary is doing a "who cares" bit with Los Mexicanos. "What would you call that?" "That's a fantastic maneuver!" Everyone's clotheslining everyone else. Richard T. Sin says Eddie Cruz worked under a mask in Mexico and Rudo Cortez was heavily scouted as soccer player. Wasn't there a third Los Mexicano? 2000CC's manager is Neo Blackman, so I guess that guy wasn't Neo. We see about three or four minutes of that and move on.
WCPW Training School. I missed the number. Oh, there it is but I'm not going to type it. Ha ha look how powerful I am. That was pathetic.
2002 is great because you get to see UAPW at it's best, Sam tells us. Talk about a fellow named 9mil (hmm) and how his lightweight title was changed to the Innercity Title so now he has to defend against any weight class. GQ assures us that he can beat him too, thanks GQ. Oh, 9mil is also the Hardcore Champion - let's seem him against Two Fingers Fontaine of WCPW.
Fan Cam so I ignore. Fontaine is Italian, which really isn't much of a minority around Chicago. 9mil is a skinny hispanic guy in a blue prision jumpsuit. Watch the partially blown spot. Froggy Splash.

Hey, look, it's a Dodge Ram. I won't write down the license plate. Hey, that guy wants us to take a look at his van, wait, now he doesn't. Oh, it's Riot and he's the UAPW rookie of the year. He's a black guy (this is really not helpful) wearing a lot of Sox stuff. He promises his van as an interview set - come check it out each show. Okay.
Battle of the Belts ad.
GQ and DeCero argue about the correct pronunciation of Sam's last name. Back to Battle of the Belts 2001 as Naughty By Nature takes on WCPW's Brotherhood.
They didn't have a UAPW TV show before this, so I'd guess they wouldn't have all that much footage to show. Maybe. I dunno. Pokerface is one of the guys in Naughty By Nature (and I guess that maybe they were doing the announcing for that Delight match) so we'll never know who that was. For now. nBn are, get this, three black guys. "I haven't seen a dropkick like that since my best friend got married!" Rude may be another guy. This doesn't really tells us more about who these people are except that they use wrestling moves and wrestle.
Auto Parts, come get your auto parts.
Hey, an actual interview. I've seen this before - that's 2000CC (Cassius and Carnage) and Neo Blackman. They'll rule the tag team division. Manager talks, they stand menacingly.
I'm guessing by the T-Shirts these two are Naughty By Nature. They got tag belts. They'll beat anyone, the old ladies at the concession stand, the ugly ladies at the souvenir stand, whoever. They're taking the gold to back to Tennessee.
DeCero invites us back in three weeks (1/7/02) for the next WCPW show, and that's that.
