03/16: Puebla, Dos Leyendas, Mexico preview

CMLL (THU) 03/15 Arena Puebla
1) Fenix & Kirvan b Ares & La Mafia
2) Bobby Jack, Karissman, Siki Osama Jr. b Centella de Oro, SWAT, Tigre Rojo
3) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela b Amapola, Hiroka, Nazi
4) Eclipse, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde
5) Dr. Wagner, Rey Bucanero, Shocker DQ Efesto, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero

Efesto replaced Tarzan Boy, who seems to miss Puebla every other week.

Lots of articles on CMLL’s 03/30 Dos Leyenda press conference
– They officially announced the High Society group that’s been talked about for a few weeks. Shocker, Bucanero, Corelone and Koslov are in the group. They hope to recruit every metrosexual wrestler. Is Maximo the new member?
– Universo and Marco talked trash. Usual experience vs youth.
– This will be the first Ticketmaster show (though they’re not up there yet, as far as I can see.)
– Perro Aguayo Jr. is going to be filming a reality show. I think this is what the documentary bit yesterday was about. He’ll be scaling back his non-Mexico City wrestling while he’s working on it.

Sources: CMLL, La Presna (what’s the deal with Shocker’s shirt?), La Jornada, ESTO (1 2), Ovaciones.

ESTO has a preview of tonight’s card. Nothing special. They’ve also got stories about the VIP show

Tonight’s lineup:

CMLL (FRI) 03/16 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Super Nova vs Polvora & Vaquero
2) Dark Angel, Luna Magica, Sahori vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
3) Blue Panther, Felino, Mictlan vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Misterioso Jr.
4) Heavy Metal, Sagrado, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Universo 2000
5) Alex Koslov, Marco Corleone, Shocker vs Damian 666, Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Two weeks out, and the big push looks to be behind the new tecnico unit, which has nothing to do with the big show. They’re not really building anything for 03/30 here (though I’m sure Universo will distract Corelone in the main event or something), almost like someone completely different booked this card and the 03/30.

03/30 Arena Mexico (Two Legends) Card Announced

That bit yesterday? SWERVE.

CMLL (FRI) 03/30 Arena Mexico Lineup
1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Lady Apache vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Amapola
2) Sagrado, Volador Jr., Leono vs Misterioso II, Tarzan Boy, Black Warrior
3) Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Olimpico vs Mr. Aguila, Damian 666, Halloween
4) Lizmark Jr., Dos Caras Jr., Rey Bucanero vs Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto
5) Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero vs Perro Aguayo Jr., Hector Garza [ri]
6) Marco Corelone vs Universo 2000

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

day since (as of this PPV)
Marco lost his hair: 105 – last major show
Universo last lost his hair: 378 – same major show last year
Universo defended his title in Mexico City: 689
Universo defended his title in Arena Mexico: 1442 (or 206 weeks or 3.95 years, in an building they run every week)

Not that I’m thinking there’s any way where Marco/Universo is a suitable big show main event. But I could not care about Universo getting his head shaved, which obviously is happening. Maybe last time, you could sell it as the first time ever, but this just feels like the start of Universo dropping his hair each and every year for a payday.

That’s admittedly zany semifinal, but they seem to putting all their eggs in the Marco/Universo basket so far – maybe they’ll push the Ultimo/Mistico teamup in weeks to come? The only other ongoing is the women’s match, and I’m still not sure they’re going to end up doing anything with Apache/Amapola.

How about Black Warrior being in the segunda? With Leono? Leono’s not losing his hair. That has a chance to be a pretty good match. I’m not sold on anything besides it and the semifinal.

At six matches, it’s highly unlikely we’re getting a late addition. It is what it is.

03/11: Muneco/Coco Rojo, Accion, NJPW

VIP (SAT) 03/10 Salon 21, DF [Notimex]
1) Katito Kung Lee & Voladorcito b Bracito de Plata & Pentagoncito
2) Black Heart, Furia, La Mosca b Caramelo, King Fish, Supernino
3) Lapida & Shu el Guerrero b Axel & Vangelz
4) Mano Negro & Solar I DRAW Black Terry & Negro Navarro
5) Super Muenco b Coco Rojo [mask]

Coco Rojo is Mario Jimenez, 39, of Veracruz. He vows to keep fighting Super Muneco.

Marco Corelone and Universo 2000 will sign contracts on Thursday for a hair/hair match on 03/30. That’s a gigantic step down from Mistico/Perro.

Blue Panther suffered a seven cm tear in a hip muscle, and he’ll be out for three to four weeks.

Ovaciones also says the winner of this year’s Rey de Reyes will be receiving a sword. This sounds like a dangerous idea.

03/11: Minoru b Texano Jr. [IWGP JH]

Negro gets a title shot against Tiger Mask IV next week. He’ll fair no better.

Accion:

CMLL: Marco vs Universo. Univeros seemed fired up here, and we get the DQ beating. The Capos hold Marco and foul him directly in front of the ref, and they’re angry about it. I dunno.

AAA: Latin/Parka/Alebrije/Laredo vs Abismo/Antifaz/Histera/Niebla from Orizaba Spots spots, with Laredo’s ringpost tope con giro being the big spot, and Latin winning clean with a figure four.

03/05: Coliseo, IWRG, Monterrey, Magazines

CMLL

Ovaciones dismisses the idea of Mistico going to WWE, saying he’s locked into a contract with CMLL. I’m glad that’s over. (not) It is nice people are daring to mention it. Ovaciones actual point here is suggesting that major companies respect each other’s contracts, which they should but – it’s the WWE, they don’t.

CMLL (SUN) 03/04 Arena Coliseo [cmll, ova]
1) Mini Olimpico & Shockercito b Fire & Sombrita
2) Fabian el Gitano, Starman, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Hooligan, Ramstein
3) Leono, Tigre Blanco, Tigre Metalico b Hijo de Pierroth, Mogur, Mr. Mexico
4) Olimpico, Pierroth, Universo 2000 b Dos Caras Jr., Lizmark Jr., Marco Corleone
5) Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr. b Averno, Black Warrior, Mephisto

Universo fouled Marco to pick up the win that match. Befor the tercera, Mogur said he’d only agree to a hair match with Leono if Leono beat him clean – so Leono did.

IWRG (SUN) 03/04 Arena Naucalpan [ova]
1) Aguila Oriental & Celestial b Extrano & Mr. Randal
2) Airon Boy & Antaris b Sadico & Vampiro Metalico
3) Kai, King Boy, Yamato b Kraneo, Peligro, Sadico
4) Bestia Salvaje, Black Terry, Veneno b Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Suicida
5) El Dandy DQ Villano IV

IV replaced III in the main event. Dandy claims Villano III is a coward. Rudos left the tecnicos(/IWRG Trios champs) bloody in the semimain.

Hoy Laredo hypes up a match between Konan Big and Mario Bezares tonight in Arena Cuartro Caminos.

Torreon’s Box Y Lucha Comission is shutting down shows starting next weekend if everyone doesn’t get licensed. They’re allowing people to license at the arena on Monday and Thursday, but after that, everyone’s in trouble. (El Siglo de Torreon) Someone at this paper should maybe ask a promoter or a wrestler about this at some point – why aren’t they licensed? If the commission is a powerless group that just rants to the newspaper, that’s a story too.

indy (SUN) 03/04 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [rfc]
1) La Pulga & Ricochet b La Furia & Payaso Loco
2) Corrico, Gardenia, Rosa Salvaje b Armageddon, Burrito, Rey Apostol
3) Difunto I & Difunto II b Corazon Adicto & Sky and Androide & Rey Sagitario
4) Hijo de Espanto II, Pancho Tequila, Potro Jr. b Black Dragon, El Original, Golden Boy
5) Konnan Big b Axxel, Hijo de Solitario, Hijo de Anibal [FILL MIDDLE]

As I read it, Axxel filled in for Rayo de Jalisco Jr., who missing absence when he was due to lose a title, huh. Axxel was FILL Middleweight Champion, who knew? Konnan Big picks up the title, so he’s been FILL Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight, and Middleweight champion over a short time, and in that order. Did Monterrey put in Wellness Program?

AAA (SUN) 03/04 Plaza de Toros La Esperanza [marcomejia2, rfc]
1) Rey Imagen & Virutal X b Euforia & Iron
2) Orus & The Mummy b Apolo Negro & Ben Hur
3) Mini Chessman & Mini Psicosis b Mini Path Finder & Octagoncito
4) Humberto Garza Jr. & Xochitl Hamada b Miss Janeth & Rey Infernal
5) Antifaz, Cirujano, Jordy Stone b Corazon de Barrio, El Brazo, Mascara Divina
6) Brazo de Plata, Chessman, Octagon b Fuerza Guerrera, Hator, Nicho

Magazines
Super Luchas 202 has Super Crazy picking up Mistico at the airport. Question for Mr. Ocampo: why do you post more of your magazine on Box Y Lucha’s forum than your own site? Super Luchas has your IWA-MS guys in AAA pictures, for those looking.
Luchas 2000 358 tease mask vs hair. They’re also teasing Lizmark Jr. rudo for what seems like the third or fourth time in the last year. Put aside that Ultimo could do a lot better than Lizmark Jr. – Julio Cesar Rivera would seem to be plugged in about these things, but this one has gotten stuck. Lucha 2000 Special 19 has moves moves moves.

I’ve figured out why Robert is getting different tag team results than I am – he’s reading a different recap (el martiente) than I am (Satanico’s Mansion.) One recap says Zumbido caused a double pin (which can’t be anything but a 1 point each draw), one recap says clean pin for Zumbido. Double pins are easy to miss if you’re not at the right angle or looking for ’em, so I tend to believe it’s a draw, but I’ll wait for AAA to confirm.

03/02: Mexico preview

The cartoon on the right, and many more, are works of kcidis. Check out his blog and

3) Felino, Sagrado, Ultimo Dragon vs Eclipse, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca

La Presna
ESTO
– the Notimex one hasn’t turned up yet
– Ovaciones has one as well.

There’s not much new about Perro vs Mistico at this point. Marco is looking for a title shot against Universo still.

The hope is we find out a bit more about what’s going on with Mistico. We do know he made it to his tryout, before the WWE show. Mistico worked with Dean Malenko, and got postive reviews. Dave Meltzer, on Figure Four Daily, belived that even if Mistico signed, he wouldn’t start soon, and he wouldn’t appear on WWE TV for longer – they’d have him working off TV for a while, or even in one of their developmental groups. It was Meltzer’s guess that Mistico would go, but that was based on no inside information, just the idea of a 25 year old kid being wowed by a big crowd and better treatment than he’s getting in WWE.

If Perro/Mistico is blown off tonight, then I think he’s going. But since he doesn’t have to go right this second, they could continue out this feud to the 03/23 show even if he was going, so I think it’s much more likely that this reminds unclear for a bit while.

AAA tapes tomorrow.

ESTO also has an interview with Universo 2000. Universo has no plans to retire – he makes it a rule not to plan anything more than two months into the future – because people who retire seem to keep wrestling anyway.

Felino, Blue Panther, and Dos Caras Jr. spoke at a school children about the dangers of drugs. There’s no follow up comment I can make here that will not eventually get me killed, so let’s move on. Ovaciones has a short blurb about Rey and Atlantis talking to people about TB as well.

Quinta Estacion explains why they wanted Mistico in a video – lucha fans don’t normally listen to much Pop music, so they thought if they partnered with the top lucha libre star, they’d get attention from a whole new market. (And I’m sure Mistico and/or his people were thinking the same thing the other way.)

El Martiente’s wrestler of the month is Dark Angel
