12/06: el Toreo show, Mexico, Lineups

AULL (WED) 12/03 Arena Lopez Mateos [Al Filo del Ring (1) and (2)]
0) Yakuza b Sepulturero I
1) Lady Apache & Martha Villalobos b Rossy Moreno & Vicki Carranza
2) Bronco (UWA) & Romano Garcia b Danny Boy & La Flecha (Skayde)
3) Villano IV & Villano V b Scorpio Jr. & Shu el Guerrero and Super Astro & Ultraman and Kahoz & Rambo [Copa UWA Toreo]
4) Canek & Dos Caras Sr. DQ Dr. Wagner Jr. & Mil Mascaras

Wagner fouled Canek for the DQ, after Canek had already fouled Mil. Though Wagner was somewhat booed, Canek & Dos worked as rudos and Dos was happy with the experience. This show sold out, with a turnaway crowd.

CMLL (FRI) 12/05 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO, superluchas]
1) Fabian el Gitano & Molotov b Calígula & Méssala
2) Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior b Bam Bam, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito
3) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Virus
4) Dos Caras Jr., Shocker, Toscano b Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Sangre Azteca
5) Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Mís

In the main event (where Marco did show and Garza did NOT), rudos took the first fall, then lost the second when UG ripped off Mistico’s mask. Mistico went to the back to get a new one and the rudos decided to hide in the cored , becuase they’ve seen this bit before. So, Mistico just jumped off the entrance set on to the Guerreros in the crowd. Fight went back to the ring, everyone else excused themselves, and UG snuck in a foul on Mistico while the refs were distracted. UG pinned for the win. After the match, Mistico demanded a mask vs mask match. He’s only getting a singles match next wek.

Semimain was building up Shocker/Mr. Niebla. Not much of angles the rest of the show.

Dos replaced Maximo and Fabian replaced Sensei, but I believe both of those were changed during the week.

Another day, another interview with Cassandro. These were clearly done all on one (phone) conference because everyone has the same quotes.

Zorro’s won some titles

Al Filo del Ring has a really good interview with Veneno, about his experiences in Mexican lucha libre as a foreigner and what he thinks about other foreigners trying the same thing.

CMLL (TUE) 12/09 Arena Mexico
1) India Sioux & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Sujei
2) La Máscara vs Máscara Púrpura, Mascara Dorada, Stuka Jr., Flash, Mictlán, Felino, Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Loco Max, Heavy Metal, Virus [? WELTER, ciber]
3) Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Toscano vs Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

The expected freakout referenced in the comments is me losing my mind every time CMLL adds a new title, and it sort of looks like that here. I’m keeping my sanity by figuring it’s a #1 contenders match for one of the Welterweight titles. This would all be easier to figure if CMLL actually remembered to list WHICH welterweight title on the line, but I would assume they know whom is putting up the title and couldn’t remember which they had last night.

NWA: Sombra (defending it tomorrow vs Ephesto)
CMLL: Mistico (defending it Monday vs Negro)
WWA: el Hijo del Santo (I’m thinking no)
UWA: last seen in DragonDoor?

It’s listed as a World title, which means it’s not Sangre. Though, that’s the title I would do, given how few defenses he’s done here (1 in Arena Mexico) and the other two being already on the line this week. This reminds me, gotta write out my completely useless plan for booking Arena Coliseo shows one day, because that title’s involved.

Anyway, we know it’s a tecnico defending the title. Sombra/Dragon Rojo is logical, Sombra/Virus would be really fun. I could see Mistico with Felino, Metal (bad idea) or Warrior. Maybe Loco Max gets a pin back on Mictlan.

CMLL (FRI) 12/12 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
2) Dos Caras Jr. vs Marco Corelone, Blue Panther, Sagrado, Toscano, Shocker, Valiente, Máximo, Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Lizmark Jr., Terrible, Texano Jr., Misterioso II, Rey Bucanero, Ephesto [LdA]
3) Místico vs Último Guerrero

So much for my thought CMLL wouldn’t bother this week. (And that’s 6! for Mistico.)

Leyenda de Azul tournament history
2000: Blue Panther (cibernetico)
2003: Tarzan Boy (cibernetico)
2004: Universo 2000 (cibernetico)
2005: Lizmark Jr. (tournament)
2006: Rey Bucanero (tournament)

This is the tournament they forget to run some years. There’s no particular favorite here, though they did manage to stick in Shocker & Niebla, plus there’s Marco/Lizmark if they want to do it. Valiente, Maximo, Misterioso and Ephesto would be mild surprises if they won (Ephesto would be less of surprise here than on Sunday), but this is one where anyone could win and it’d work. Wish they gave out tournament brackets so we could play with this more (also wish these tournaments were actually good matches), but hopefully the goal here is to set up a feud or two to at least feuds for the next month. Whatever happens with Mistico and UG (a mask challenge!), it won’t be going down while they’re back in Arena Coliseo.

It’s amusing someone booked two tournaments in the same week. Or, two people had the same idea to book tournaments on their shows and had no idea the other guy was doing it.

Final Reminder: we’re taping the podcast on Sunday, so get your questions in today

CMLL booking change?

Here is the Cesar @ box y lucha post I think everyone was talking about over the weekend, re: Lizmark/Corelone fight and the Lagurenos taking over being as much real as angle. I tend not to believe a lot of what I’m reading on boards right now – the previous unrest plus the jumps gives a lot of space for people to float unsubstantiated rumors – but this does seem pretty solid.

The story goes, Ultimo Guerrero and others (generally from his home region) are angry about the way things have been going in CMLL lately (crowd, people unhappy with how they’re being used or not being used at all) and forced a change in the CMLL booking office. This was mirrored in the big angle on Friday night and also the reason none of that angle made sense given what had been going on previously.

There’s a lot more interesting posts in that thread (at least the first page; not as much as it goes on.) A couple posts down, Cesar mentions the Ultimo Guerrero led faction wants to the company to focus on using CMLL wrestler, rather than putting foreign wrestler and independent guys (Park? Wagner?) on top and not getting anything out of it. I’m sure the jumps were part of this happening; surely people are bitter that they or their friends could’ve had Alex or Shadow’s spot and wouldn’t have left (because they don’t have the safety net of going back to the US.)

Negro Casas is mentioned as one being on the out on the power struggle, which would imply he was one pushing for the international/independent guys. That would also seem to mean to me that he and Rocky are indeed going to be teaming on that NJPW tour, which is totally weird.

Speaking about those jumps: Alex Koslov explains his jump on his mySpace page. Rocky Romero talks about never liking the Grey Shadow gimmick. AAA says DGMex is neither tecnico or rudo. Which means they’re rudo.

CMLL.com updated with subs for Alex Koslov. Valiente is in the semifinal on Tuesday, Volador Jr. is in his place on Friday.

10/11: Mexico, Rey Jr., lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/10 Arena Mexico [sololuchas, superluchas, La Afficon]
1) Sensei & Starman b Calígula & Méssala
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Flash, Máscara Púrpura DQ Dr. X, Loco Max, Skandalo
3) Mictlán, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. b Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas b Hijo del Fantasma, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr.
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Tecns won the main event in two falls, clean. After the match, the Villanos returned to attack Blue Panther. Dragon Rojo ran down for the save, then Ephesto and then finally Ultimo Gurerero decided to help out too. It seems the Lagunera guys have decided to rally around Blue Panther in his fight with the Villanos, which leaves three questions

1) all the guys who made a save were rudos – is Panther headed that way?
2) is this a one time, or an ongoing faction? What does this mean for the Guerreros?
3) Hooligan’s totally going to be involved, right? Please say yes.

In the semimain, the rudos got DQed for excessive violence, but they kept on going to win the second and the third (Lizmark foulding Corelone without the ref seeing it.)

Dragon Rojo replaced Virus, which makes sense in retrospect to get Dragon Rojo in the building to make his save. ESTO says Stuka replaced Valiente because Valiente is/was hurt from a head injury.

Skandalo grabbed Flash’s mask for the DQ in the second. Tecs took it in two.

Rey Misterio Jr. talked to Notimex. If there was a question about the recent Ovaciones stuff, it did not make it in here; this was more focused on the Dos Jr. rumors (Rey didn’t know if he was coming or not, but thinks he’s got the attributes to do well – he’d really love to have Perro Jr. in WWE though.) Rey’s NOT on next week’s WWE Mexico tour, since he’ll be with the RAW brand in Puerto Rico unless things change at the last minute. Rey’s was happy with RAW’s debut rating and fine with Televisa moving the show to a later hour, because it makes it “more flexible schedule”.

SoloLuchas interviews Bestia Negra, who talks a bunch about his pre-refereeing wrestling career. I wish SoloLuchas next page links were a bit more visible (or everything was just on one page, because you can apparently make them as long as you’d like.)

The next Dos y Tres magazine has the Psycho Circus on the cover.

Robert recaps 04/02/06 AAA, 04/16/06 CMLL and 04/20/06 IWRG

I guess Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu really is a bitch though b/c at the end of the fall he went for a slingshot somersault senton dive and HORRIBLY blew it.

CMLL (TUE) 10/14 Arena Mexico
1) Carrona & Cholo vs Molotov & Sombra de Plata
2) Calígula, Hooligan, Méssala vs Angel Azteca, Angel de Oro, Hijo del Faraon
3) Leono, Máscara Púrpura, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Vangelis, Virus
4) a replacment for Alex Koslov, Máximo, Mictlán vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Olímpico
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Misterioso II, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

As you’ll see, they had no idea Koslov was jumping, because he’s booked like normal next week (and probably the weeks after.) Not really surprised they still put his name up in the lineups after the rest of the world knew, because they probably didn’t know.

Hey, look, Hector actually teaming with his former title partners after they’ve stop holding the titles! Could be there’s just no other top tecnicos on this card, but let’s pretend they planned it that way.

CMLL (FRI) 10/17 Arena Mexico
1) Axel, Flash, Metalik vs Loco Max, Nitro, Skandalo
2) Máximo, Sagrado, Valiente vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Sangre Azteca
3) a replacement for Alex Koslov, Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza vs Averno, Mephisto, Terrible
4) Blue Panther, Ephesto, Último Guerrero vs Villano III, Villano IV, Villano IV [ri]
5) Marco Corelone vs Lizmark Jr. [hair]

Lizmark is teasing a surprise for his second. (Lizmark Sr.?) Since it logically would’ve been Alex, I’d guess Marco’s second will be a surprise too. Hey Marco, just don’t pick Mistico, that worked out really poorly for the last guy who did that.

AAA tapings results in a little bit.

10/04: Mexico, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/03 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Ovaciones, Aficion]
1) Molotov & Trueno DQ Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito DQ Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Warrior
3) Black Warrior, Felino, Olimpico b Alex Koslov, Mictlán, Valiente
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corelone b Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
5) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Bad attendence, which Ovaciones blames on WWE on TV Azteca. I think it’d still be in a post Anniversary hangover, but it may be both.

Tecnicos won the first fall clean, then second fall by DQ when Ultimo fouled Panther. Ultimo challenged him Panther to a mask vs hair match after. Garza got hurt in this match.

That wasn’t specifically agreed to, but Marco and Lizmark did agree to a hair match after Corelone won their latest match. No date was announced. As noted in the comments, Bucanero replaced Dragon Rojo, which seems a bit suspicious with SD! on Azteca and Dragon Rojo showing up as Diamante Negro last weekend.

Though I guess we’d really know if he just showed up as Diamante Negro here, which he did not. And four out of the six guys in the tercera were changed from what had been originally announced, so something else was obviously going on. Valiente landing face first on the apron on Sunday and working both Tuesday and Friday shows (plus who knows how many more) is quite something. Olimpico and Rey Bucanero being added to this show after being on that poll is interesting.

Yesterday, Panico said CMLL was planning to talk to Shocker about coming back in about two weeks. Not sure that’s happening now. Panico also says CMLL plan on more 75th Anniversary celebration shows.

Noroeste says they know who will be the members of D-Generation-Mex: one indepedent guy, and one who’s been in trios in CMLL. Which doesn’t narrow it down at all! Also in the useless AAA info department, they put up a list of AAA stars signing autographs at various car service places. They tell you who, on which day, but they don’t tell you actually when or where these places are. Good luck!

KrisZ’s news update from yesterday is up.

5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Funny how this is the fourth straight main event with the guy who LOST his mask. Everyone’s on pause anyway – no hair match this week.

08/04: Mexico, Halloween, Lineups, GdR

CMLL (FRI) 08/03 Arena Mexico [ESTO, Ova, Galeno del Mal @ box y lucha, Doom @ El Martiente, superluchas]
1) Pequeno Violencia & Pierrothito b Shockercito & Tzuki
2) Dark Angel, Diana la Cazadora, Lady APache b Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Heavy Metal, Sombra, Stuka Jr.
4) Alex Koslov, Dr. Wagner Jr., Volador Jr. DQ Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Lizmark Jr. b Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas

Main event is as expected, with Perro fouling and pinning Mistico for the win. Panther got his mask yanked off post match. They’re pushing Panther vs Lizmark.

Semimain sounds like it had a mess of a finish. Depending on which report you read, it was either a two fall win for the tecnicos with the rudos being DQed in the first fall excessive violence, or a three fall win for the tecnicos with Ultimo yanking Wanger’s mask. It sounds like not everyone (in the ring) was clear on the first fall finish, and it caused chaos. Wagner and Ultimo made challenges post match.

Sombra did not have a good night.

Ovaciones confirms the rumor floating around message boards – Halloween’s gone from the Perros (and CMLL) for now. Not sure what/if this means about the Mexican Trios titles. For it’s part, CMLL mentions Perro is looking for TWO new members of their group.

CMLL (TUE) 08/07 Arena Coliseo
1) Shockercito & Tzuki vs Pequeno Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Astro Boy, Molotov, Trueno vs Arkangel, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Mictlan, Stuka Jr., Super Nova vs Nosferatu, Okumura, Skandalo
4) Alex Koslov, Felino, Maximo vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Dos Caras Jr., Heavy Metal, Volador Jr. vs Damian 666, Mr. Aguila, Terrible

So Damian’s still around.

CMLL (FRI) 08/10 Arena Mexico
1) Bam Bam & Fantasy vs Pequeno Damian 666 & Pequeno Halloween
2) Flash, Super Nova, Valiente vs Arkangel, Nitro, Super Comando
3) La Mascara, Mascara Purpura, Sombra vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
4) Olimpico, Sangre Azteca, Toscano vs Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Lizmark Jr. vs Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas
6) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero

CMLL CAN52 #89 has
07/29 Coliseo: Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Diana La Cazdora, Marcela
07/29 Coliseo: Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Virus b La Máscara, La Sombra, Tony Rivera
Outside the ring: Dos Caras Jr.

That’s odd.

CMLL is still listed as from 3pm to 6:15pm CST.

08/03: main lineups

(the rest of the news is to come)

CMLL (FRI) 08/03 Arena Mexico
1) Shockercito & Tzuki vs Pequeno Violencia & Pierrothito
2) Dark Angel, Diana la Cazadora, Lady Apache vs Amapola, Hiroka, Mima Shimoda
3) Heavy Metal, Sombra, Stuka Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Alex Koslov, Dr. Wagner Jr., Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Sangre Azteca, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Blue Panther, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Hector Garza, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Lizmark Jr.

Tonight’s big focus is on Perro (and Lizmark)’s return to the ring. Figure Perro gets a win to restart with, probably by cheating Panther since that’s the way things have been going for him. We’re still far enough away from the anniversary where CMLL doesn’t actually need to have a direction, and it’s not like they’ve been doing other major shows in between this year. Anytime Mistico teams with Negro, I wonder if they’re setting up something with the tag titles, but it’s equally likely (read: not very) they could do something with this tecnico trio challenging for the Perro’s CMLL Trios belts. Most likely, they’re just going to try to coast off the momentum of Perro being back in the ring.

The semimain is all about the continuing Wagner vs Ultimo feud. I think that one will have some sort of short term climax, maybe a singles match at some point soon, but I don’t actually know anything.

Ovaciones and NotiMex have the usual previews. ESTO profiles Perro Jr’s return and has a fun interview with Ultimo Guerrero, where he states
– Atlantis warned him about teaming with Dr. Wagner, but Ultimo made the mistake of trusting Dr. Wagner. Now, CMLL’s not big enough for the both of then.
– Ultimo vows to retire before he ever teams with Mistico
– Ultimo says Perro Jr. got the benefit of his father’s name and hasn’t learned a wrestling hold. If Perro’s going to be around, Ultimo wants to get his team another shot at the trios titles.

Meanwhile, AAA’s taping in Queretaro

AAA TV (FRI) 08/03 Auditorio Jose Maria Artega de Queretaro
1) Mascarita Divina & Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro & Mini Histeria
2) Aero Star, Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Super Fly vs Cuervo, Espiritu, Scoria, Toxico AAA
3) Alfa, Apache, Fabi Apache vs Cinthia Moreno, Laredo Kid, Oriental
4) Alan Stone, Super Calo, Zumbido vs Crazy Boy, Extreme Tiger, Joe Lider
5) Elegido, Intocable, Zorro vs Abismo Negro, Antifaz, Histeria
6) Charly Manson, Chessman, Cibernetico vs Kenzo Suzuki, Ozz, X-Pac

(more about this show here)

This is being touted as Intocable’s return. It’s the 5th straight taping with a Hell Brothers vs Foreign Legion themed main event, and 12 out 13 since Rey de Reyes. (The other was AAA Tecnicos vs Foreign Legion.)

AAA always hypes “surprises” for their shows. Usually, I just figure that means “run-ins”, but Ovaciones today revealed AAA plans on creating their own World Heavyweight Championship, and the process for determining the champion would seem to be announced on this show. (For the love of all that’s holy, do not do a league again.) Ovaciones also mentions AAA will downplay or drop other World Title belts that are hanging around.

I am 100% behind this idea, and have been expecting it since Konnan got involved. I’m all for adding titles if it means we’re getting rid of more pointless ones. If I got to make these decisions, I think I’d say

DELETE
– AAA Campeon de Campeones (held by Cibernetico – a previous kinda attempt at this same concept)
– GPCW Super-X Monster Title (held by La Parka Jr. – it can disappear till the next time Juvi runs a show)
– AAA Americas Belt (shows up once a year with Sangre Chicana)
– UWA Light Heavyweight (let it float back to Monterrey, but not on TV unless they’re taping there) and any other UWA belt I can’t think of (Miss Janeth’s Women’s title, if she still has it)
– Any IWC or WWA belt which may or may not still exist. Any belt that I don’t mention below.

PUT ON THE SHELF
– Mexican Heavyweight Championship (Charly Manson; eventually, you can use it as a secondary title, but it confuses the issue when you’re trying to make up a new belt)
– Any Mexican National Championship Octagon or La Parka Jr. holds – the Cruiser belt may be lost in some closet, let’s leave it there. They haven’t done a thing with the Middleweight Title since Octagon won it, that’s perfect. The new AAA Tag belts have supplanted the Mexican ones, which is exactly right. All this needs to be taken a step further – you don’t have to vacant them if the wrestlers insist, but don’t make any references to these belts. It’s a bigger deal for someone to win a championship if they don’t already have two other ones they don’t care about.

KEEP
– AAA Heavyweight
– AAA World Tag (Crazy Boy & Joe Lider – would like to see more with this, but it’s fine enough so far)
– Mexican Atomicos Title (La Secta – though they’ll probably want to upgrade this to World at some point)
– AAA Mascot Tag Titles (Alebrije, Cuije – not wild about these, but they work fine enough)
– AAA Mixed Tag Titles (Oriental, Cinthia – only as long as they’re doing something with them)

That’s five. Five is usually plenty, though the those two special tags make it seem not as much. I’m anticipating that the end result of Mascarita Sagrada 2000 issues with AAA will be him walking off with the National Title and Mini Histeria winning a new AAA Minis Title (though there’s the difficulty of doing two new titles at once.) I wouldn’t be surprised by women’s title or some sort of cruiser/middleweight midrange getting added down the road either.

Wow, I wrote way too much about that, without even spitballing ideas for who’d win the new title. (It’s going to be Mesias vs Cibernetico, obviously.)
