Mascara vs Averno, unfriendly TRT, Polvora & Delta advance, Suicida shaved

CMLL (FRI) 05/13/2011 Arena Mexico [CesarCMLLRecord]
1) Artillero, Mortiz, Súper ComandoHöruz, Robin, Trueno
Rudo win, taking 2/3. Trueno took Mortiz’s spanish fly. Robin had a poor night.
2) Arkángel de la Muerte, Loco Max, SkándaloÁngel Azteca, Ángel de Plata, Pegasso
Rudos took 1/3.
3) DeltaRey Escorpion [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Crowd got into this match. Rey Escorpion tried to cheat again, but Ultimo Guerrero stopped him and Delta eventually took the win. Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Escorpion had real problems after this one, shoving each other on (and off) the ramp.
4) PólvoraHijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo, quarterfinal]
Hijo del Signo was the last Group Alfa (Negro Casas) member standing. He lost, and Polvora becomes the second group Delta (Blue Panther) member to get thru.
5) Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Stuka Jr.Euforia, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
Bonus match, added midweek (but not publicized.) Probably not airing.
6) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, TerribleMáximo, Super Porky, Toscano
Rudos won, but Terrible & Bucanero turned on Zacarias and Negro Casas post match. Members of Fuerza TRT do not want anything to do with other rudos.
7) Averno, Ephesto, Último Guerrero DQ Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máscara Dorada
Rudos won in straight falls, with La Mascara angrily ripping off Averno’s mask in the second fall. More mask/mask challenges.

AAA (FRI) 05/13/2011 Arena Neza [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Montana Infernal & Muercielado NocturnoÁngel Mortal Jr. & Marabunta Jr.
2) Black Lancer, Okawa, Vampiro MetailcoCarta Brava, Hermano Muerte II, Hermano Muerte III
3) Mari Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela EscarlataMini Chessman, Polvo de Estrellas, Sexy Star
Mari replaced Fabi.
4) Neza KidMike Segura [hair]
Mike Segura lost his hair, so the mystery of Neza Kid lives another day (though it’d be more of a mystery if he wore a shirt and covered up his shoulder tattoos.) Ultraviolent match, though the finish was Suicida suplexing Neza Kid three times, reaching to pick up Neza again, and being cradles for the three count.
5) El Mesías, Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown Bestia 666, Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, X-Fly
X-Fly was over here instead of the TV taping. Monster Clown hurt his ankle and fought in one shoe for a while. Mesias gave Perro a backcracker for a clean win!

Crowd looks pretty decent, strong by Arena Neza standards. Curious to know who the ‘local’ promoter is.

The lucha news was dominated by WWE’s show in Mexico City, and their announcement of television tapings in Palacio de los Deportes this October. WWE will record Raw on October 15 (Saturday) and SmackDown on October 16 (Sunday). With tapings finally happening, the new dangling carrot was maybe running WrestleMania in Azteca Stadium (but they probably need to work on airing something live first.) CMLL tends to run a mid level show the second week of October and AAA runs the Heroes Inmortales show in early October, so this may affect both of their plans.

At the press conference, Big Show said Alberto del Rio reminded him of an actor, like Frank Sinatra (?) but he’s ugly and should go back to wearing a mask. I want to watch movies with Sin Cara.

Perros del Mal are calling their anniversary show PerroMania XIX.

Ras de Lona included an interview with Hombre Bala Junior and Senior. Good to see Senior on his feet. They actually sort of mentioned Psicosis’ poor outcomes in title matches (biased refereeing, naturally) and Psicosis talked about his upcoming international matches (including Lucha Libre USA, which I believe is the first time they’ve actually mentioned that group by name here; Marco was also spotted in the brief about Shocker’s restaurant opening.)

Looks like the CMLL TV changes from last week were not a one time thing; CMLL Fox is airing matches from last Friday, so LATV is likely getting the Mex trios title match today.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 05/17/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Leo vs Black Metal
2) Metatrón & Virgo vs Acertijo & León Blanco
3) Último Dragoncito vs Pierrothito
4) Delta, Diamante, Metro vs Ephesto, Scorpion, Vangelis
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Toscano vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Odd to see a singles non-title minis match here, but they’ve actually done this same match here twice in 2008, splitting the results. They’re 3-3 versus each other in singles matches all time.

CMLL (FRI) 05/20/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Robin vs Bronco & Inquisidor
2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Estrellita, Tiffany
3) Delta vs Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo, semifinal]
4) Ángel de Oro vs Fuego [Forjando un Idolo, semifinal]
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano vs Metro, Super Porky, Valiente
6) La Máscara vs Averno
7) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Rush

Not too big of a surprise that match is not a title match; it hasn’t been about the title. Wish they’d put their big singles matches in the main event spot.

Back when Rey Bucanero was added to Peste Negra, it was because they needed another man. Mr. Niebla was not around. Mr. Niebla is back now, but history indicates we should not expect him to stay around forever. Yet, CMLL doesn’t seem to be concerned at all now, making sure we know Bucanero is split from the group. I hope that’s a positive sign about Niebla, but I wonder if it means they’re much less concerned about keeping Peste Negra going or they’ve got a new member planned.

Interestingly, Ras de Lona had Shocker in Mascara Dorada’s place. Must’ve been some hope he’d been back this week. Should be soon.

CMLL (FRI) 04/22/2011 Arena Mexico [CMLL, Record, Cesar]
1) Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito b Astral & Eléctrico
Rudos took 1 & 3
2) Metro, Sagrado, Sangre Azteca b Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi
Tecnicos won fall 1 & 3. Metro has new white gear.
3) Escorpion b Rey Cometa [Forjando Un Idolo]
Escorpion [3] again pulled his opponent’s mask, but this time got away with it to beat Rey Cometa [3] in 5:53. Ultimo Guerrero yelled at Escorpion again, but Escorpion laughed and did not care because he won this time.
4) Ángel de Oro b Palacio Negro [Forjando Un Idolo]
Palacio Negro submitted Angel de Oro, but Tiger Hispano waved it off, claiming Palacio Negro used an illegal choke. Later, Angel de Oro [6] reversed Palacio Negro’s [3] campana into a mecedora for the win.
5) Blue Panther, La Máscara, La Sombra DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Tecnicos won 1 and 3, the last when Averno unmasked La Mascara. Averno told Mascara that was the only way the tecnico could beat him; Averno is to good for Mascara to legally defeat. Mephisto took La Sombra’s mask after the match for good measure.
6) Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero
Hirooki Goto won the first fall by pulling off his partner Volador’s mask and tossing it to UG to draw the DQ. Bit of genius there. Goto cleanly beat Guerrero in fall two for a straight fall win. Goto challenged Ultimo to a heavyweight title match, UG accepted, and it’s on for next Friday – which is both Kid’s Day and Arena Mexico Anniversary Day.

I have not heard an specific attendance number, but reports were more than 10,000. Lot of people in for holiday festivities, and it sounded like there were a lot more women in the crowd; not the hardcore rudo fans booing everything.

Forjando un Idolo matches

Perro Aguayo Jr. wrestling on that May 8th show in Cancun is probably not going to actually happen. On his every other week podcast on WrestlingObserver.com, Dr. Lucha said the word backstage at Wednesday’s AAA taping was Perro Jr. really did have the surgery, and really did have something taken out of him (and they knew the next day it wasn’t malignant), but he’s still going to get more medical tests done in Mexico City and he’s not expected to be back in the ring for a couple months. He may appear to do interviews, or even be at ringside for matches, but AAA doesn’t think they can use him in a match until at least TripleMania. Perros might have announced that May 8th date because they’re anxious to prove Perro Jr. doesn’t actually have cancer (and they don’t really have any other in-house stars), but he shouldn’t be expected to do anything at that show.

Also, on that same podcast, Dr. Lucha mentioned AAA found out only this past Tuesday that their show this weekend was going to be truncated to 30 minutes. (Televisa is showing diving coverage instead.) At first, Televisa offered to rip up AAA’s show into a 30 minute slot, but AAA opted for a rerun so they could debut Drago on a normal show. (That might explain why CMLL’s time slot looks so truncated as well. ) Not sure what this means for the US, though we’re unlikely to get any longer version of the show. Galavision is currently showing a 2 hour slot for AAA and a 1 hour for CMLL.

CMLL in NJPW:
04/23: Manabu Nakanishi (O) & Jushin Liger b Mascara Dorada & King Fale (X)
Dorada has yet to take a direct loss or pick up direct win.

I have not seen all of Ras de Lona this week, but they did not have the usual interviews; JCR and Miguel Linares talked about past Anniversary main events for four minutes (focusing on Blue Panther vs Villano V, maybe because they had a lot of footage of that one),  then later Leobrado and Miguel talked about for about four minutes about Ultimo Guerrero vs Villano V, and then again JCR & Miguel about the four way from last March. From the way they edited it, it looked a lot more like a three way – a certain WWE superstar was excluded from the highlights and never actually mentioned by name in talking about that match. That was a bit amazing.

CMLL (MON) 04/25/2011 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano & Stigma vs Fuerza Chicana & Siki Osama
2) Astral, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Dragon Lee [0] vs Metal Blanco [1] [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Delta [3] vs Guerrero Maya Jr. [3] [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Rush, Sagrado, Valiente vs Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi
6) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
7) Último Guerrero vs Hirooki Goto

UG & Goto have been feuding here too. Two chances at this means at least one should be pretty good.

This is group Charly, who are last in line to have their second group matches and first in line for the thirds. We won’t know what these matches mean until Sunday night, though I have the sneaking suspicion everyone might be tied at 1 win coming in this final day.

CMLL (TUE) 04/26/2011 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quca vs Templario
2) Höruz & Virgo vs Acertijo & Malefico
3) Goya Kong, Marcela, Silueta vs Amapola, La Comandante, Mima Shimoda
4) Ángel de Oro, Diamante, Dragon Lee vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Ráfaga, Skándalo
5) La Sombra, Rush, Toscano vs Mr. Águila, Olímpico, Psicosis

Lineup from Ticketmaster. Can’t be quite right, unless Silueta is making a long commute.

Ras de Lona said Tuesday Arena Mexico has

3) Fuego vs Magnus [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Polvora vs Angel de Plata [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Stuka, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro vs Virus, Euforia, Raziel
5) Brazo de Plata, Maximo, Blue Panther vs Terrible, Texano, Rey Bucanero

Edit: Actual lineup

CMLL (TUE) 04/26/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Trueno vs Apocalipsis & Zayco
2) Dark Angel, Estrella Mágica, Luna Mágica vs Estrellita, Princesa Blanca, Tiffany
3) Fuego [3] vs Magnus [3] [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Ángel de Plata [0] vs Pólvora [6] [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro, Sangre Azteca vs Ephesto, Euforia, Raziel
6) Blue Panther, Máximo, Super Porky vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano

Stuka & Virus have other things to do? This is not a Queretaro week.

Main event is a rematch from last week. Next week is likely a Fan Appreciation show; would they rematch Dos Leyendas already?

Obviously, the winner of Fuego and Magnus advance (go Oaxaca!) and Plata & Polvora are playing out the string (barring Plata suddenly getting 2 bonus points, which we’re going to assume is not going happen and not mention as possibility for anyone else, but I wanted you to know I thought about it.)

CMLL (FRI) 04/29/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Pegasso, Sensei, Starman vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Inquisidor
2) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Valiente vs Misterioso Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Vangelis
3) Puma King [0] vs Hijo del Signo [3] [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Diamante [6] vs Hombre Bala Jr. [3] [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Último Guerrero vs Hirooki Goto [CMLL HEAVY]
6) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Averno, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Kid’s Day & 55th Anniversary Show. They could’ve split those up, they did not, and they’re surely hoping for something well north of the magically 10K number.  Main event should be something. I do not like the rudos odds on this day!

I have a feeling that this Guerrero/Goto might be more playing to the audience, and the Puebla one is going to be better, but we’ll see. I’d be slightly surprised if Goto won, but UG is only a 55/45 favorite – CMLL is unafraid to give a lot to NJPW guys, feeling they’ll get it back later multiplied, and it gets CMLL to their magic number of 16 champions. Goto is gone after this weekend (maybe this show), but a title win means he’s back in a couple months.

Puma King vs Hijo del Signo is the only rudo vs rudo match in the group stage of Forjando un Idolo tournament, and it’s happening on Kid’s Day. Oops. We’d expect Signo & Bala both not to match results (neither has been close on the voting.) I can’t believe Puma is getting out of this with no points, so I’d expect Bala to take the second spot.

That leaves Group Bravo (Palacio vs Escorpion for the last birth) for next Sunday.

IWL (SAT) 05/14/2011 Deportivo Tlalli
1) El Panda, Gatillero, Hijo del Panda vs Payaso Carroña, Payaso Miedo, Payaso Terror
2) Chica Tormenta, Diva Salvaje, León Rojo, Talisman vs Celestial, Centinela, Gaviota, Lolita
3) Obett vs Judas el Traidor, Dinamic Black, Tribal, Pesadilla, Ragde, Eterno, Freelance, Chico Che [#1 Contenders, IWL Internet]
4) Fantasma de la Ópera vs Tony Rivera, Cerebro Negro, Ninja de Fuego, Fishman Jr., Zumbi, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Kung Fu Jr., Ángel o Demonio [cage]
5) Chessman, Extreme Tiger, Silver Cain vs La Roca, Lizmark Jr., Pirata Morgan

La Roca exists again. That’s unfortunate. The poster also lists this show as Lucha Libre ATM, which may be a bit on the nose.

Goto v Guerrero, Forjando un Idolo, weather forecasts

CMLL (MON) 04/18/2011 Arena Puebla [Porra Fresa]
1) Lestat & Stigma b Centauro de Fuego & Siki Ozama Jr.
Lestat had a great dive on Centauro de Fuego to eliminated him in the final fall. Tecs took falls 1 and 3.
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pierrothito
Tecs took falls 2 and 3, Dragoncito beating Pierrothito in the third, despite Tirantes refereeing.
3) Fuego b Ángel de Plata [Forjando un Idolo]
Fuego [3] submitted Angel de Plata [0] for his first win.
4) Magnus b Pólvora [Forjando un Idolo]
Mangus [3] looked better than last time here and the crowd was behind him. He dominated the match, but got distracted by Tirantes slow count and was rolled up by Polvora [6] for the pin.
5) Rush, Sagrado, Valiente b Shigeo Okumura, Virus, Yoshihashi
Tecnicos took 1 and 3, Sagrado beating Virus after Rush and Valiente dives.
6) Blue Panther, Máximo, Strong Man b Héctor Garza, Hirooki Goto, Último Guerrero
Maximo had an absurdly huge cape. Tecnicos took the first, and Goto and Guerrero had problems leading to the second fall loss (straight falls for the tecnicos.) Goto and UG fought after the match, with UG demanding a singles match.

CMLL (TUE) 04/19/2011 Arena Mexico [Record, CMLL]
1) Bronco & Inquisidor b Leono & Molotov
2) Sensei, Fuego, Metatrón DQ Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
Dr. X unmasked Fuego for the DQ.
3) Diamante b Hijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo]
Diamante [6] pretty much clinches advancement. Signo is stuck on 3.
4) Hombre Bala Jr. b Puma King [Forjando un Idolo]
Puma [0] loses again, Hombre Bala picks up his first 3 points.
5) Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano b Delta, Metal Blanco, Valiente
Rey Bucanero wore a Doble T shirt and the rudos had a bulldog with them for no apparent reason. Ideas! Dog = win.
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Rush, Super Porky
Rudos took the first, tecnicos the second and the third.

Espiritu, who’s bald most of the time, grew enough hair to lose in an Nuevo Laredo cage match. Hombre sin Miedo was the winner.

Weather report for Pachuca: Partly sunny with a show or thunderstorm the afternoon. (Also, about 50 degrees warming then here.) AAA should get the taping in this time!

Shocker says he’ll be back in action at the end of May. He’s been out since December after tearing his pattelar tendon.

Taguchi defends his CMLL World Welterweight Championship versus Taichi on 04/29 at Hiroshima Green Arena. Also, Hirooki Goto rejoins NJPW on 05/03, so if CMLL is really doing the Ultimo Guerrero vs Goto singles match they’re teasing, it’s gotta be next Friday.

Super Halcon Jr.’s debut in this buildiing.
3) Palacio Negro b Rey Cometa [Forjando un Idolo]
Palacio Negro (3) won his opening match over Rey Cometa (0), but suffered a cut over his head after a dive.
4) Ángel de Oro DQ Escorpion [Forjando un Idolo]
Escorpion (0) lost by pulling Angel de Oro’s mask (3). Coach Ultimo Guerrero was annoyed by this. He and Escorpion argued, then shoved, then Guerrero slapped his pupil in the face. They eventually shook hands, but were not happy with each other.
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Sangre Azteca, Super Porky b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
Porky sat on Averno for the win
6) Dragón Rojo Jr. & Último Guerrero b La Máscara & La Sombra [CMLL TAG]

1) Mini Aero Cross, Mini Infierno, Mini Infierno Kid b Aurum, Mini Gatillero, Mini Sangre de Toro
2) Halcon 2000, Imperial, Volaris b Blue Monster, Guerrero 2000, Rolling Boy
straight falls
3) Dark Devil, Fly Infernal, Sky Angel b Dragon Celestial, Guizmo, Muerte Infernal
4) Alan Extreme, Black Terry, Dinamic Black DQ Bombero Infernal, Comando Negro, El Hijo del Diablo
Diablo fouled Black Terry for the DQ.
5) Centurión b Eterno, Black Lancer, Bizarro, Beta, Taurus, Tempalrio, Fresero Jr., Dragon Fly, Negro Casasola, Saruman, Maquina Infernal, Kortiz, Scanner [torneo FIL]
opposing students were from the Villano Gym, though Ojo de Tigre and his students tried to intercede and take the match for themselves. (They were asked to come back another time.) Not sure if I got everyone, but Centurion (IWRG) beat Negro Casasola (Villanos) in the end. Post match challenges set up Black Terry & Fresero Jr. vs Villano IV & a student (or maybe Villano V)

Main cage match of Arena Aficion Tuesday night ended in a double disqualification draw. Last two in were Hijo de Dr. Wagner and Hijo de LA Park, and one pulled the other’s mask while the other fouled, and that was the finish. If I was in the crowd and that’s what they did for a result, I’d never return.

Gronda is listed on a Kid’s Day show in Tijuana, with LA Park, Super Porky, and a Histeria which really could be II or III. Anyway, Gronda is wrestling again, though if he’s on that sort of show, this might not be the one in Pachuca.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and the 2010 countdown from 20 to 10.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 04/19/2011 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & Molotov vs Bronco & Inquisidor
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Fuego, Metatrón vs Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Diamante vs Hijo del Signo [Forjando un Idolo]
4) Hombre Bala Jr. vs Puma King [Forjando un Idolo]
5) Delta, Metal Blanco, Valiente vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Texano
6) Blue Panther, Rush, Super Porky vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

If Metal Blanco & Delta are in a match opposing the guys who main evented the last major show (Terrible & Texano) and the guy who main evented the last major show before that (Bucanero), then what is he getting out of this Forjando un Idolo tournament? They’re already treated like an Idol, there’s nothing they can win in this tournament (and there’s nothing they’ve actually mentioned you can win in this tournament.)

03/22: IWRG, Toreo, Mistico, Wagner, Juvi, Dos Leyenda, lineups

IWRG (SAT) 03/14 Arena Xochimilco [SuperLuchas #307]
1) Mixteco Jr. b Goleador
2) Galactik & Miss Gaviota b Avisman & Vampiro Metalico
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Multifacetico, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman Jr. DQ Arlequin, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II
5) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. b Scorpio Jr. [Rey del Ring]

New champ. Scorpio had MA2K Jr. done in a half crab, but both he and the refree were distracted by Hijo de Pierroth (Mascara’s second) beating up Multifacetico (Scorpio’s second) on the outside. Scropio let go, Mascara snuck in a foul and pinned him for the win. DQ in the semimain was for Pierroth II yanking Solar’s mask.

El Toreo (WED) 03/18 Arena Lopez Mateos [SuperLuchas #307]
1) Sombra Escarlata & Spider Boy b Mr. Flama & Sol de Oriente
2) Azabache Negro, Rey Cobra, Sismo b Black Man II, Falcon, Flecha (Skayde)
3) Romano Garcia b Danny Boy [hair]
4) Robin Hood Jr. & Super Panda b Epitafio & Terry 2000
5) Canek b Cibernetico [#1 Contenders, UWA HEAVY]
6) Dos Caras Sr., Killer Jr., Sicodelico Sr. DQ Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V

Mil was supposed to be in the main event, but was angry about something – I think the article says about not being in the main event, which doens’t make sense – and walked out of the building before his match (walking in front of the crowd to make sure they knew he showed.) Doesn’t look like this bit is drawing sell outs any more, at least not this night. Villano V yanked Dos’ mask for a DQ.

It took Cibernetico being accidentally hit by his second (Killer Jr.) and being fouled by Canek for him to lose here. That’s actually not as much as I’d thought.

Again, fighting between the seconds (Robin Hood Jr. and Rocky Santana) allowed Romano to sneak in a piledriver on Danny Boy for the win.

SuperLuchas #307 also has a big interview with Mistico. Besides the usual “I’d like to face whoever win the mask match” bit, Mistico also notes that when he was in Japan and CMLL did a Sombra/Volador vs Averno/Mephisto tag title match, it was a poor house. Mistico wants more people to be stars, but feels he should get more credit for how much he means and how hard he works. Mistico feels like he’s winning the crowd back little by little this year (though that didn’t seem to be case Friday night.) This interview is totally worth going out of you way to read for yourself.

IWRG (THU) 03/19 Arena Naucalpan
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Zatura b Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Mascara ANo 2000 Jr., Oficial 911

Give him credit – Dr. Wagner indeed made this show. The usual trend for guys who join one of the big 2 is to promise they’ll still be doing all their independent bookings when the press is there, and then quickly bail on them. (Silver King and Super Porky come to mind.) Lots of respect for Wagner if he’s breaking that tend.

Coincidentally, Wagnermania has Wagner cutting a promo on website commenters critical of him joining AAA. Dr. Wagner Jr. is a YouTube shooter, which can only mean the world is coming to an end. The Gladiatores have their own interview with Dr. Wagner about current effects.

Didn’t occur to me last night, but there was no Wagner angle on Friday’s AAA taping despite one being obviously set up in Madero. AAA is now listing Wagner’s self promoted shows, which are now using AAA talent.

The other news not exactly mentioned on luchalibreaaa.com is a backstage incident with Juvi, at least if you’re willing to believe his story in Record. “The leader of the Mexican Powers” (that’s what the article says) tells Record that he went out for his match, and came back to find his bag filled with human waste. Juvi went to Jack Evans to accuse him of doing it, when Konnan attacked him and Jack joined in. Juvi claims he’s got a broken nose, and bruises on his face and body.

This is surely the same story Lizzy Valentine is referring to on her mySpace page when talking about leaving AAA. This is also all Juvi’s side of the story, and his history of telling tall tales makes it really hard to take anything he says at face value – there’s definitely more going on here. (FWIW, Jack was in Juvi’s match, and still in the ring when Juvi escaped the cage, so Juvi really could really stand to improve his sleuthing abilities.)

However, the general public (and the press) are probably going to be unaware of Juvi’s history and this story looks really bad for AAA if it gets picked up in more places. It really depends on how far the story gets, but it’s tough to spin the leader of the wrestlers taking part in a two on one mugging and there’s probably some public punishment coming if this gets taken seriously. Also, whomever gave to okay to hire Juvi back inside the company (not Konnan!) is probably not too thrilled with it going so bad so quick.

Short term, Juvi’s done in AAA. I’d assume Ultimo Gladiador takes his spot in the cruiserweight tournament. Ultimo Gladiador seems to be a good dude, but no one’s been as quite as fortunate with absences as he has in AAA – he got started their with Crazy Boy’s injury and has gotten to hang around and better spots because of Juvi’s flakiness (and Super Crazy not coming in.)

Dos Leyenda follow up stories:

Villano V says he never even considered he was going to lose, and was hoping to main event a third straight anniversary show. He vows to continue fighting.

Ultimo Guerrero wants Villano IV to finish the Villanos off. UG credits Blue Panther with coming up with the idea to use the toque universal to pin Villano in the end, and goes as far as dedicating the win to Panther.

– ESPNDeportes restates the point that Villano IV is and will be the last masked Villano standing; they’ve told their sons to create their identities and not take their names (just as they did with their father Ray Mendoza), so there’ll be no Villano VI coming.

– Televisa Deportes picture comes along with tons of pictures

– I was wrong – Accion indeed has video of this match tonight. If ever one needed to understand the difference between the two promotions, this was a good two minutes for you – CMLL had a huge match decided by an abdominal stretch cradle, and this was followed by Chessman/Mesias in a cage using light tubes, and walking above the cage on barbed wire cords. Are they really both promoting the same lucha libre?

Box Y Lucha posted a truck load of articles Friday morning, none of which I saw until much later because Google Reader decided not to show new articles in half my feeds. (I think I fixed it, but who knows. As always, if I miss something worth reading, let me know.) There’s so many of them, I’m not going to write as much about them, but that doesn’t mean they’re not interesting.

They’ve got La Parka Jr. telling LA Park to get over it already and complaining about not being nominated for the the Televisa luchador award (he thought the idea was for the nominees to just be Mexican)

Dos Caras Jr. explaining his teased rudo turn was resolved off camera (everyone’s friends again, hooray), Axel talking the end of his CMLL sting much like in his SuperLuchas interview, Dark Angel talking about her trip to Japan (and not TNA, yet), Star Fire talking about her short career so far (totally wins me over in one interview, I’m a sucker), Sombrita and Mascara Dorada talking about the Puebla cage match, and Juanito Diaz, lightweight champion of the 60s. There’s also columns on Solar/Negro Navarro, Villano III on backstage fights (how timely!) and history pieces on Angel Azteca. Plus, a couple look back at Ultimo Guerrero‘s career, as if teasing a major change this past Friday.

An editoral in El Siglo de Torreon complains about the quality of libre referring. For some odd reason, they don’t think referee Viruta getting caught in the moment and doing a top rope plancha onto the wrestlers shows much impartiality.

LuchaWorld has Robert on the 12/08-9 and 12/15-16 CMLL MVS Shows, as well as KrisZ‘s news update.

Lineups

IWRG (THU) 03/26 Arena Naucalpan
1) Garra de Aguila vs Keshin Black
2) Galactik & Mascara Magnifica vs Carta Brava Jr. & Mixteco Jr.
3) Fantastik, Freelance, Turbo vs Black Terry, BLack Thunder, Capitan Muerte
4) Head Hunter I, Head Hunter II, Veneno vs Arlequin, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II
5) Fuerza Guerrera vs Oficial 911 [IWRG IC WELTER]

911 lost, will get a title shot. OKAY. Turbo and Black Thunder appear to have become regulars here (as much as anyone who’s not a core guy is a regular.)

IWRG (SAT) 03/28 Arena Xochimilco
1) Garra de Aguila vs Comando Negro
2) Eragon & Latin Brother vs Carta Brava Jr. & Vampiro Metalico
3) Mascarita Sagrada & Octagoncito I vs Espectrito de Ultratumba & Piratita Morgan
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Universo 2000 vs Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG) & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. [relevos sucidas]
6) ? vs ?? [mask]

Actually, I’m taking a leap and assuming they’re doing the final on this show, but the tag match is solicated as a relevos suicidas. Pretty clear favorite to lose of the four.

CMLL (SUN) 03/29 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Lizmark Jr., Terrible
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Mistico vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Been racking my brain all day, trying to figure out what the bonus match is. There’s no feud that I can think of – the show two weeks ago has little to do wtih the today’s show (thanks to all the subs.) One of Bam Bam, Pierrothito, Sombra or Sangre Azteca is probably defending their title here, if it’s at all being set up tonight. Feels like it could just be a typo.

CHOLO! Getting worried about him for a bit. Speaking of MIA guys, anyone seen Mascara Purpura lately? No matches in the last month, since the lightning match in Puebla.

CMLL (SUN) 03/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Katana & Malefico vs Angel del Mal & Infierno [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
2) Palacio Negro & Samurai vs Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
3) Boomerang & Gallo vs Acertijo & Mr. Trueno [Torneo Tanque Dantes]
4) Maximo, Sagrado, Valiente vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) a replacement for Toscano, Hector Garza, Shocker vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero

Toscano’s booked like normal this week, but can’t make any of those shows. Warrior continues to work in GDL. That’s round 4 of the torneo, and I’m sure I’ll do a breakdown of the tournament later (so you know there’s a post coming to skip.)

03/07: Mexico, Puebla

CMLL (FRI) 03/06 Arena Mexico [ESTO, Ovaciones]
1) MolotovSenseiArtilleroSuper Comando
2) AmapolaHirokaPrincesa BlancaDark AngelLluviaMarcela
3) Angel de PlataTiger Kid [lightning]
4) FelinoMisterioso IITexano Jr. DQ MaximoMetroValiente
5) TerribleVillano IVVillano VAtlantisBlue PantherUltimo Guerrero
6) Dos Caras Jr.Hector GarzaShockerBlack WarriorMr. NieblaNegro Casas

Both papers seem to think the tecnico group in the main event wasn’t doing much good – ESTO says Dos seemed disinterested, ESTO notes Garza and Shocker weren’t getting along – but they still won. Judging from CMLL’s notes, the Dos stuff may be going somewhere, perhaps a rudo turn.

Villano V pinned UG clean and got the best of him for most of the match.

Texano faked a foul from Maximo in the tercera.

The women’s match was said to be one of the best on the show.

CMLL (FRI) 03/06 Arena Puebla [eric @ box y lucha]
4) Sombrita L Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Ninja, Pequeño Olímpico, Fantasy, Eléctrico, Tzuki, Bracito de Oro, Último Dragoncito, Sauron, Pierrothito, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Universo 2000, Asturiano [cage, mask]

Just like the last cage match, this one came down to Pierrothito, Dorada, and the loser. This time, Pierrothito escaped and Dorada has to defend his mask. He did, beating Sombrita. Sombrita was unmasked as Javier Tutl Roldan, 20 years a wrestler, originally from Puebla.

AAA announced yesterday that Shiima Xion would be joining the group. Xion worked the DTU show at last year’s Lucha Libre Exo, so that’s probably the connection. This signing seems to disagree with the WON’s recent reporting of AAA freezing new hiring until the summer. (Though it did get a lot warmer here yesterday!) I can’t imagine more than 1% of AAA’s fanbase knows who Shiima Xion is, but according to his wikipedia page, he’s a AAA fan from way back so yay for that.

EXOnline has an interview with Mike Brown of WEC, visiting Arena Mexico.

Another preview of EAW‘s next show.

CMLL (TUE) 03/10 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatio II & Sensei vs Puma King & Tiger Kid
2) Electrico, Shockercito, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Fire, Pequeno Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Euforia, Nosferatu, Shigeo Okumura vs Flash, Pegasso, Stuka Jr.
4) Mascara Dorada, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino, Sangre Azteca
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Mr. Niebla

Hey, Fire. Just talking about you. No sign of Sombrita this week.

CMLL (FRI) 03/13 Arena Mexico
1) Sombra de Plata & Trueno vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Hooligan, Loco Max, Polvora vs Angel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeno Warrior [lightning]
4) Maximo, Metro, Sagrado vs Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Ultimo Guerrero vs Averno, Mephisto, Villano V
6) Dos Caras Jr., Mistico, Shocker vs Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Top 2 build for next week’s big matches, thought it’s odd to be in that order. Third match builds to the GDL match, though it’s in the FOX/LATV slot and wouldn’t air until after their hair match.

CMLL (SUN) 03/15 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Trueno vs Caligula & Messala
2) Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skandalo
3) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Rosa Negra
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Ephesto, Lizmark Jr., Rey Bucanero
5) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, La Mascara vs Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Niebla

Right now, there’s no title match, but one might note everyone to have a title match is scheduled to be there, in case events this Sunday cause one to be set up. This is a pretty run of the mill show otherwise.

While you’re waiting for CMLL to come on at 3, Alfredo posted Rey Hechicero vs Valinete.
