CMLL CAN52 GDR #87

taped 07/13, 07/15, aired 07/21

(see videos from this show here)

You know, the record book says Mini Damian won the cibernetico, but if you’ve seen it, I think you have to agree that the true dominant force was the Top Rope. The Top Rope was owning people left and right, which was kinda disappointing to see.

The cibernetico was really good in parts and disappointing in other parts. I wish they made it a yearly bit – banish it to a no-draw date in the middle of winter if you have to – because I think some of the problem was that this was the minis One Big Chance and they took it more seriously than they should’ve. People recovered from their mistakes pretty quickly, but if they were more relaxed, maybe they wouldn’t have had the mistakes.

Super Luchas reported this match as 4 minutes longer before the first elimination. Perhaps Electrico got to get in the ring during that time!

They used a generic “CMLL” microphone to interview Mini Halloween after his hair match, so I guess they didn’t know where (if?) that interview would air. Still wish they were putting the minis hair match on an actual TV show.

Main event was exactly what I thought it’d be.

what’s on FSE

CMLL FSE #47 has
06/24 Coliseo: Leono, Mictlan, Valiente vs Goto, Ohara, Okumura
06/24 Coliseo: Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone, Rey Bucanero vs Tozcano, Ultimo Guerrero, Universo 2000

That’s the first one which aired in Mexico and not the US. So I guess we’re going to have a US lag now?

CMLL CAN52 GdR #86

taped 07/06 and 07/08, aired on 07/14

I screwed something up here. I saw two matches hyped, figured that was it. Not quite.

07/08 Coliseo Bam Bam, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito DQ Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
07/06 Mexico Katsuhiko Nakajima, Kensuske Sasaki, Último Dragón b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Texano Jr.
07/08 Coliseo Máscara Año 2000, Sangre Azteca, Último Guerrero b Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr.

Not the main event was that much of a match (though it had some solid wackiness.) Or that the Sasaki match was much (it did have more wackiness, of an unintentional kind.) Minis match was good until they had to do a finish, so I propose no more finishes every again.

07/21: New (Old) Tag Champs, Mexico Lineup

ESTO

CMLL (FRI) 07/20 Arena Mexico [ESTO, ovaciones]
1) Molotov & Sensei b Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) India Sioux, Luna Magica, Marcela b La Nazi, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) Felino, Mascara Purpura, Máximo b Misterioso II, Satánico, Virus
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corelone b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Héctor Garza, Terrible
6) Místico & Negro Casas b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

We have new tag team champions, again. In the final fall, Wagner accidentally kicked Ultimo, leading to his pinfall, and Mistico yanked Wagner’s mask and pulled him into a small package to win it. Ultimo’s ticked at Wagner for costing them the match, so that teamup is done. Mistico and Wagner challenged each other after the match.

Few notes on the rest of the show. All I’ve got is the tecnicos won the semimain in straight falls. CMLL.com says Panther is still angry.

CMLL (TUE) 07/24 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Polvora & Zayco
2) Flash & Metalico vs Arkangel & Dr. X
3) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Hiroka, Medusa
4) La Mascara, Neutron, Sombra vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satanico
5) Bam Bam vs Mini Damian 666 [hair]
6) Alex Koslov, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Olimpico, Ultimo Guerrero

They didn’t waste any time.

CMLL (FRI) 07/27 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Sombra de Plata vs Caligula & Messala
2) Leono, Stuka Jr., Super Nova vs Hirooki Goto, Misterioso II, Okumura
3) Mascara Purpura, Sombra, Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Sagrado vs Damian 666, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone vs Hector Garza, Mr. Aguila, Terrible
6) Mistico vs Dr. Wagner Jr.

This would seem like the build to a mask/mask match, but with Wagner and Mistico? I dunno.

AAA #621

taped 03/17, aired in US on 04/21

Yea, somehow this took me over two months to finish. Three hour shows are so hard on my attention span. And now that these – and the bunch I have left on my TiVo – are all dated, I’ve got the start of angles that I saw ran into the ground for two months. I think the rest of the stored ones are all even older than this one. It’s a weird assortment, and I know I still have Rey de Reyes somewhere in there, which I’d like to actually watch before TripleMania.

Shows like this one remind still make me think AAA has too much time. The Relevos AAA match didn’t need 13 minutes to make it’s point, and the Vipers match sure didn’t need 17 minutes. Even the main event was way too long – they didn’t really need to do 8 minutes for a beatdown, a 45 second comeback, and a (random idiotic) DQ, and the angle is stronger if the beatdown is sold thru the end of the show. Ciberentico and the HBs sold, but why have them get up at all?

Anyway. Like was pointed out at the time, the random goof Atomicos was great. Everyone was working like their jobs depend on it, and I think it’s because their jobs probably depended on it. And yet, some of those guys still vanished. I appreciate their effort, anyway.

I like the concept that the Candaian Destroyer is too ludicrous for lucha libre fans to buy. Ozz seems to have dropped it, and that would seem to be the wise move.

Unless I missed a show, or forget about it, this seems like the last taping where the hard camera was pointed at the entrance. I’m so glad they dropped that.

CMLL GdR on CAN52 #84

taped 06/24, aired 06/30

Weird that you would do a big women’s hair match, and then neither woman is involved in the women’s trio the next week. It’s not even like they cleared them out because they wanted to set up the next big feud. This was just immediate revision back to form, the tecnicas winning a match to make people cheer. I think I expect pieces to fit together when there’s no intention to do stuff like that.

Sombra didn’t really jump out as important in the trios match. Again, you would’ve thought they would’ve made him the start of the match as lead up to GA, but he wasn’t used any different than any other tecnico would’ve been in that spot – it was much more about Maximo and Metal.

The feature on Texano Jr. looked/sounded as good as any of the outside the ring stuff they’ve done.
