Skayde is your new/first? NWA (World?) Lightweight Champion. No photo with the belt yet. I think I’m spending my lunch tomorrow putting that tournament in the wiki.

In relevant news, Blue Demon Jr. presented Skayde with the belt and stayed in the ring to talk about having to choose between the title and NWA Mexico presidency. Before he could officially hand over the presidency, he was interrupted by El Dandy, who demanded and will get a mask vs hair match with Demon on 11/15, as well as possible title shot down the line. Dandy and Trauma II tried to attack Demon, but failed.

SuperLuchas has an interview with Damain, who follows Perro Jr.’s lead of being complimentary to CMLL. He’s surpasses that, putting all his ex-Perro teammates over huge (Averno & Mephisto are the best team in CMLL, he’s happy Ephesto is getting a chance, he thinks Terrible belongs on top and Texano Jr. will be as good as his father) but notes he’s always been a guy who goes from group to group so it’s time to make another move. Damian 666 says only the Original Perros are going, and then is acted about Hector Garza, but Damian’s not sure there. It’s not asked, but you surely can add Halloween to the list of Perro promotion members. (Demon?)

Damian repeatedly uses the name “Jauría del Terror” in talking about the new Averno/Mephisto led group, so he may know something CMLL hasn’t got to announcing yet. There’s near infinite ways I can misspell Jauria, so that’ll be fun.

While those guys are going, some long expected returns appear to have firmer dates. Ovaciones reports today that Shocker will be returning soon, and may herald eventual returns by Zumbido and Scorpio Jr. (more about that later.) Toscano is also believed to be brought in December or January, though Ovaciones is not as sure there.

Scorpio Jr. tells Al Filo del Ring plans on returning on November 30th.

WagnerMania has video of this week’s CMLL main event and Stellar Moments.

CMLL
CMLL

WagnerMania also alerts me to Box Y Lucha posting articles that are dated from earlier this week, but I am sure I haven’t seen when I got there every day. I need a better way of checking, I think. Anyway…

Marco Corelone is NOT going to AAA. Marco is very definite and believable about hwo much he’s committed to CMLL and honest about how he’s still rooting for his friends even though they’re elsewhere – and this article is still right under one which has Damian saying he’s not leaving CMLL.

Dr. Wagner Jr. now wants no part of the Laguneros, because Blue Panther is a LOSER and Wagner has no time for LOSERS, and also no amount of beating the Villanos is going to get Blue Panther his mask back. Wagner sees UG just using Panther’s loss to get himself over.

Atlantis notes he can’t join the Laguneros, because he hails from the Atlantic Ocean. I love Atlantis. Atlantis is sure there’s no fracture in the Guerreros

Sangre Azteca has absolutely no idea what’s going on with the Guerreros. He hasn’t been teamed with them much lately, so he’s just been focusing on his own career instead. Which hasn’t gone so well, because apparently he went thru a stretch where he didn’t have many bookings because shows kept getting rained out. Do you get paid if the show gets rained out? I’m thinking no, or not as much, because that would explain why try so hard to work thru really bad conditions, and that sounds very awful.

Sangre says he’s made between 15 and 18 Mexican welterweight title defenses (even he doesn’t know how many!). He’s offered up opportunities for any challenger, and he still went four months without a title match. Sangre would love to fight Sombra to win the CMLL version of this title to be world champion. (Sombra actually has the NWA, Mistico has the CMLL.) Sangre vows to keep moving forward, with or without the Guerreros.

If they’re going to do another apuesta match, the Villanos want it to be 3 on 3.

El Grafico (via Vanguradia) has a good interview with Princesa Sujei about her career. She was the only woman training at her school (and only trained a few months before going to the ring), but feels she benefited from training with men.

Al Filo del Ring also has video interviews with Solar and a podcast with Tinieblas

The most interesting thing about Accion is they did start airing WWE highlights in the lucha libre block. They were separated into Lucha Libre WWE, Dr. Morales did not do the announcing, and it was highlights of Rey vs Snitsky from a couple of weeks ago on RAW. I wonder if they’ll be included on weeks where they’re not Rey Jr. highlights. AAA had the cage match for control, which was interesting for Konnan taking a fierce Latin Lover chair shot directly on the head and not getting hands up, and Konnan getting in a low blow on Latin Lover after Sergio threw the drink in. Konnan got pelted with drinks as he got to the top of the cage, that must’ve not been fun. CMLL was Friday’s main event, noteworthy only for Dos Caras’s all silver outfit and the hint of a Niebla/Corelone feud.

Negro & Romero in NJPW – 11/1: Negro Casas & Black Tiger IV (!) lose to Liger and Tiger Mask IV at a non-G1 show. TM4 got Negro for the pin.

Box Y Lucha #2895 has Cibernetico leaving AAA, Fire losing his mask, and Gemelos losing their hair.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update. They may have three more updates at the pace I’m going here.

Lineups

IWRG (FRI) 11/07 Arena Naucalpan
1) Super Halcon Jr. vs Shuriken
2) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Avisman & Muerte Negra
3) Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Jack vs Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Xibalva
4) Freelance, Latino, Pendulo vs Arlequin, Sauron, Toxico AAA
5) el Hijo del Pierroth, Hijo del Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000 vs Head Hunter I, Toscano, Veneno

At some point, I think I need a better name for him than Toxico (AAA), since he’s not there now. He doesn’t work just Mexico City, but Toxico (DF) might be enough to keep it clear from the Guadalajara one.

CMLL (SUN) 11/09 Arena Coliseo
1) Romano & Sensei vs Camorra & Inquisidor
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Metálico vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Shigeo Okumura, Skandalo
3) Flash, Máximo, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
4) Black Warrior, Heavy Metal, Olímpico vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) La Máscara, Marco Corelone, Sagrado vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Último Guerrero

Okumura returns to get some revenge on Fabian. Looks like we’re a week or two away from the Coliseo Tag rematch.

IWRG (SUN) 11/09 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon 2000 vs Imperio Azteca
2) Eragon, Fenix, Miss Gaviota vs Fantasma de la Ópera, Judas el Traidor, Terror Negro
3) Freelance, Jack, Multifacético vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Pendulo vs Black Terry [IWRG IC WELTER]
5) Solar I, Super Astro, Tinieblas Sr. vs Emilio Charles Jr., Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Toscano

Semimain is not listed as a title match, but that’s what they’ve set up here.

CMLL (SUN) 11/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Quazar vs Relampago Azul
2) Samurai, Thunder Boy, Virgo vs Azazel, Milenio, Neon
3) Lady Apache, Marcela, Silueta vs Amapola, Atenea, Princesa Sujei
4) Blue Panther & Héctor Garza vs Averno & Mephisto

Note that, FWIW, Garza is booked for next week. Aguila and Damian were too, but Hector did show on Friday. We seem to be a match short here anyway. Dos and Wagner?

There’s also a show on Thursday at Arena Mexico to promote the Incredible Hulk DVD release. SuperLuchas has a coupon for four free tickets, so I suspect this is one with a lot of free tickets given out and the sponsor paying what would be the gate.

07/22: Highlights

Ovaciones has a link towards a lucha article, but it instead is about Lorena Ochoa. I presume it’s supposed to be a Coliseo preview (the picture of Atlantis and tease of championships was my clue, thanks.) Rey’s going to retain or has retained by the time you read this, you know.

Accion – no narration? Huh.

CMLL: highlights from the tag title match. We get the first fall rudo wins, dives by teh tecnicos, tecnicos winning the second fall – and that’s it. No AAA highlights.

DeporTV America CMLL highlights, all from 07/17 Coliseo
1) this week, opening match highlights. Romans are doing the a slingshot into a fireman’s carry powerbomb followed by a top rope splash combo. Caligula has a bow and arrow variation for a submission
2) Onto the segunda, with a Neutron top rope headscissors and dive tease (as Nitro runs far up the aisle.) Highlights of Loco arguing with the referee, thanks for that. Super Nova gets a top rope ‘rana on Arkangel and a Asai Moonsault onto Quebrada. Neutron dropkicks Arkangel out, and follows with a nice tope con giro. Nitro gets a slow two count on Stuka with a powerslam, then rolls thru a ‘rana to get another 2 count. Stuka finally get a bodyscissors cradle to win the match.
3) Valiente and Virus work together, and it is good. Some Valiente highlights before Mictlan and Valiente wrap up the fall. They give you the impression the tecnicos won this match, but
4) Even highlights of the hair triangle match. We get some of the same highspots – Damian’s dive thru the ropes and middle roep front suplex on Halloween to eliminate him, but of course that’s got to air. Bam Bam’s tornillo, tapatia for a near double fall, and then same sequence from the cibernetico to finish Halloween. We see Halloween get shaved, and the rudos jumping Bam Bam.
5) No main event highlights.
This should turn up on their website on Monday or Tuesday, and I’ll link to it then.

(Chikarafans.com) Sicodelico Jr. did lose to Claudio Castignoli on Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the NWA World Heavyweight Tournament. Combined with his (and Incognito’s) loss in the tag team tournament, he’s 0-2 at world titles this month. (I bet Dos Jr. calls him and taunts him about it.) There was a good interview with Sicodelico Jr. in last week’s Super Luchas, about being a guy who represents Mexico around the world despite not really wrestling in Mexico.

Super Luchas has an update on Turbo. While doing a moonsault, his right leg collided with a chair, and he fractured his shin in the process. He hopes to be out only three months.

Other Dragon Gate results (via DGUSA)
07/21: Jorge Rivera b Akira Towaza
07/22: Jorge Rivera b Yasushi Kanda

ex-Skayde gets a shot at DG’s Brave Gate title next month; he’s staying in Japan a bit (though Black Thunder and Pentagon Black seem to be gone and obviously Turbo is headed home.)

As I understand it, what aired in Mexico this weekend was:

CMLL 07/21
07/15 Coliseo: Amapola, Medussa, Rosa Negra b India Sioux, Luna Magica, Marcela
07/20 Mexico: Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Héctor Garza, Terrible
07/20 Mexico: Místico & Negro Casas b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Último Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

AAA 07/22
07/15: Head Hunter I, Rikishi, Ron Killings, Sabu b La Parka Jr., Latin Lover, the Animal, Zorro
(that’s it – was everything but the opener hyped for next week?)

FSE doesn’t come on here for another 1.5 hours, but I suspect it’ll follow Mexico’s lead and be a rerun. I’ll update this when I see it.

04/06: Skayde/Mistico, Monterrey, Puebla, Tijuana, Lucha Expo

the gladiatores

CMLL (SAT) 03/31 Plaza de Toros El Cortijo [The Gladiatores]
1) Kai & Skayde Jr. b Bazooka Negra & Yamato
2) Destroyer & La Flecha b Arcano & Estruendo
3) Black Thunder, Pandillero, Rey Lobo b Black Man Jr., Cerebro Negro, Turbo
4) Tigre Volador & Valiente b Dr. X & Super Comando
5) Atlantis, Tarzan Boy, Ultimo Guerrero b Marco Corelone, Radioactivo, Shocker
6) Mistico b Skayde [mask]

In the main event, Mistico won the first fall and Skayde won the second. They did a bit at the end of the fall where Mistico’s knee was hurting so bad, he might not be able to continue. Of course he came back, and won with a Mistica.

Radioactivo’s mask is definitely odd. Those have to be foam bits sticking out of his head, but I’ve never seen stuff like that on the back of a mask, and I’d think your head would hit something weird at least a once match.

Flecha and Arcano have apparently been feuding here, and agreed to a hair/mask match on the 21st. It doesn’t sound good for Flecha.

CMLL LLA (SAT) 05/12 Arena Monterrey [rfc]
1) Dark Angel, Diana la Cazadora, Lady Apache vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
2) Felino, Mascara Purpura, Maximo vs Loco Max, Misterioso II, Texano Jr.
3) Ephesto, Mephisto, Tarzan Boy vs Alex Koslov, Negro Casas, Silver King
4) LA Park, Super Parka, Volador Jr. vs Damian 666, Hector Garza, Perro Aguayo Jr.
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Mistico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Averno, Ulitmo Guerrero

This is the semiannual big Monterrey show in a big arena. If Toryumon is still running on this Saturday, they’re not running with any of these guys.

CMLL (MON) 04/09 Arena Puebla [hugo999]
1) La Mafia & Mr. Rafaga vs Forajido & Super Star
2) Blue Center, SWAT, the Tiger vs Karissma, Siki Osama Jr., Toro Bill Jr.
3) Dr. X, Loco Max, Nitro, Sangre Azteca vs Coco Blanco, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde, Leono
4) La Mascara, Mistico, Negro Casas vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Shocker vs Mascara Ano 2000

MORA (TUE) 04/17 Auditorio de Tijuana [Maquiavelico_TJ]
1) Hijo de Rey Misterio, Nicho, Rey Misterio vs Black Panther II, Ohara, Okumura
2) Mistico & Volador Jr. vs Averno & Tarzan Boy

The Gladiatores also have interviews from the Lucha Libre Expo press conference. Podcasts don’t work well for me – there’s no translation button on my iPod – but I’m going to try to listen to these over the weekend. If you listen to them and hear anything neat, feel free to explain it to me.

Notice that Gladiatores is covering the expo and Pancracio is sponsoring the show (as is Super Luchas) – what exactly am *I* doing for you? I think I’m a slacker.

It looks like IWRG and CMLL will both be running shows at the expo Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and obviously Friday’s the busy day with Mistico there (in the afternoon, so he should still be good for the Mexico show later.) Everyone’s signing autographs and later wrestling, and the cards themselves seem pretty decent. IWRG is even doing a cage match on Saturday. This is the same weekend as the Luchas 2000 show, so lots of wrestling.

AAA posted photos from it’s last taping.

04/01: Skayde vs Mistico, IWRG, FSE, Accion

In the main event of a show at Arena El Cortijo on Saturday (03/31), Mistico beat Skayde for his mask. Skayde was revealed to be Jorge Rivera Serrano. This is Mistico’s third mask win, all since beating Black Warrior last September.

This match and Skayde’s mask loss came as a surprise – there was no known build up, this isn’t Skayde’s home arena, and this is not a arena of any note. In the days leading up to it, there was an ongoing discussion on box y lucha’s foro wondering if it might be a typo, a fraud, or some other bit of confusion, but the match did take place as advertised. It is highly unlikely that it was taped.

Skayde’s competed as Jorge Rivera on a few of the Toryumon Mexico shows. He did not wrestle on the last one, though according to nuclear jackelope on DVDMB, Skayde was running the locker room for that show. nuclear jackalope’s post indicates this is likely Skayde’s choice and there’s something going on here that we haven’t been made aware of yet. (Health issue? That’d be my guess.)

IWRG (THU) 03/29 Arena Naucalpan
1) Puma King b Golem
2) Bacteria & Kid Tiger b Narcosatanico I & Narcosatanico II
3) Black Terry, Fantasma de la Ópera, Supremo Jr. b Esfinge, Fabian el Gitano, Solar I
4) Masada, Ohara, Shigeo Okumura b Felino, Kai, Yamato
5) Bestia Salvaje, Hijo de Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000 b Dos Caras Jr., El Hijo del Solitario, Negro Navarro

Main event tecnico team fell apart, with Solitario accidentally getting hit by his teammates, and opting to hit back for real. That didn’t help. Okumura cheated to win the semimain.

CMLL on FSE

These are the matches that aired
03/25 Coliseo: Jeque, Ohara, Shigeo Okumura b Metro, Stuka Jr., Tony Rivera
03/25 Coliseo: Damián 666, Halloween, Mr. Águila b Leono, Máscara Sagrada, Mictlan

HOWEVER, it was a 0:30 show. Sometime before 10 AM today*, they changed the schedule, adding a 30 more to Italian Soccer (which has a late night replay) and just ripping it out of CMLL lucha (which does NOT have a late night replay.)

CMLL must’ve known this in advance, because there was a lot more surgical editing than usual. Instead of just skipping segments like usual (like in the recaps I’ve been putting up, actually), they re-did the show to make it fit better. The stand up intro was cut completely, most of “En Casa De Black Warrior” was cut, and the commercial bumpers were mostly gone. As a result, they were able to air all of the opener (no breaks between falls, all in one long segment) and the third fall of the main event.

This is much improved over the old way of doing it. I’d prefer a timeslot (or timeslots) where no editing is done, but if it has to a be a half hour, this is good.

Accion

CMLL: Universo vs Marco! Universo gets a fail with a camel clutch. Universo gets a plancha, Marco does Air Italia. Cien Caras argues with a ref about something (Dr. Morales talks about a foul – we don’t see it) and Marco small packages Universo for the win – with the ropes, with Rey helping him hold onto the ropes. Not so clean, though I suppose that’s the best you can hope for with Universo.

AAA: Hellbrothers vs Mesias/Cuervo/Ozz (no location listed). We get entrances. Mesias is looking like a normal guy – no visible burn marks, at any rate. He heals good. Cibernetico puts his hands on Konnan’s wheelchair, and Konnan sprays him in the face with some white powder. Mesias spears Cibernetico into a table, though Ciebrentico falls down short and he doesn’t really go thru it, just into it. Some point later, Pepe Casas awards Cibernetico the match.
